Honestly a poor release in many regards. I prefer DTM „Off“ just like in Horizon Zero Dawn because that is the only way to retain specular highlights somewhat decently. The white stabilizer also sometimes helps in situations like these, I used it to stop the screen from going crazy with ABL in Far Cry 5. Devs really have to do a better job with HDR in games with proper HGiG or at least ingame calibration sliders!
Same. For a lot of Sony games where I can’t change the max nits (GoW, Uncharted), I like DTM off for best accuracy. Sometimes I change Max CLL in HDMI override from default 4000 nits to 2000 for brighter highlights.
Great analysis I was waiting for this before really getting into it. For TLOU 2 you said for HGIG it should be brightness -2. Do you think after this current analysis these setting can apply to 2 as well? The engine and HDR implementation looks really similar in both. I plan on playing 2 right after this and would be cool to match them perfectly.
Whatever you do, HDR is wrong in this game. So just adjust it to your preference instead of accuracy. And no, they changed the tonemapping and gamma value for TLoU pt.1 from pt.2. The settings are not identical, -2 in TLoU pt2 is not -2 in pt.1. This was the same case with Uncharted 4 and Lost Legacy remastered.
I've found that adjusting Black Levels on TV to help with contrast in this game. I tend to like a bit more brightness in the shadows but struggle to get the perfect balance with Black level, so I bump up the Black level just enough so that it dose not look washed out.
To be very honest I tried playing around with HGIG and DTM and I decided I never want to be bothered by it. Last of Us is just ONE game, I don't want to be messing around between HGIG and DTM whenever I play a new game. So I just used the Standard picture mode, and set PS5 HDR to barely visible. I see you must have the disc version of this since you got it for AUS$99. I really hate how we get screwed in Australia on the price of games bought as downloads from the PStore, as they have it priced at AUS$125 for the standard edition and AUS$140 Deluxe edition. I think one of the major reasons this happens all the time is because the PStore in AUS is a mirror of the UK PStore, and the prices are just converted from UK pounds, which depends on the current currency exchange rate, and we just see the equivalent in AUS dollars. It's been like that since the PStore started, and SONY is making a wad of cash because of it, so I can't see them changing the situation by giving AUS/NZ our own PStore.😡
I have nothing but problems with the picture in this game with HDR on. Lines running down the screen, flickering. HDR off cleans up the picture. Frustrating
I'm gonna be truthful, I hate HDR. I have HDR turned off on my PS5. I don't have time to constantly change settings for different games, I just want to power on my system & start playing. I messed around with HDR on my PS5 & TV for several hours but wasn't satisfied & came to the conclusion that my games looked better, colors & brighter without washed-out picture, with HDR off.
Great video: Here are points for your video about LOU1 Remakes graphics. Great looking cutscenes and some night scenes, but 1) Flat 2D sky-box. Not volumetric clouds 2) Low quality shadows outside. Look at grass in the Sun 3) Flat textures, due to low quality anistrotopic texture filtering. Look at the ground 4) Pre-baked lighting. Looks so dated. 5) Performance mode looks blurry. No upscaling in 1440p or 4K Dynamic mode. Its just 1440p with TAA. Why not use FSR 2.0 or something similar for advanced upscaling. But no upscaling??? 6) No Dynamic resolution. Its broken 7) 4k40 mode isnt locked 40 fps. Its average 35 fps in VRR. The worst 4k40 mode on PS5, yet. 8) No adjustments of HDR output 9) No Raytracing used for Global illumination lighting, reflections or shadows. 10) No use of PS5s fast SSD/IO or decompression block. Its still slow loading. 11) Its still the same last gen game engine as used in LOU2. 12) There are no shadows around many smaller assets. They are not grounded correctly in the gameworld. They float so to speak. Considering the marketing of PS5 two years ago and this game (build from ground up), Its very dissapointing that we two years into this generation, is still getting last gen graphics on old game engines build for PS4. In the next 6 to 9 months we will get next gen games from other developers. Forza Motorsport on a new game engine. Avatar on Snowdrop that will only use RT lighting and reflections (also on consoles) and use PS5s new hardware for rendering and loading millions of assets/triangles during gameplay. We will also soon get games on UE5, such as Hellblade 2, The First Decendant etc. Considering all this, I think Naughty Dog and Sony set a far to low ambitions for the graphics. Next gen games will look so much better. Maybe they will be 30/40 fps only on consoles but that is another subject. And here is NXG describing why PS5s SSD/IO and decompression isnt used. th-cam.com/video/Ia0-kYFCLgQ/w-d-xo.html
I love your channel and all you do but I'm sorry because on a oled tv this game look insane .. it's soo incredible with the 3d audio and controller. It's by far a new experience
yes! finally someone that covers HDR in this game. I am so confused by the HDR in this game, it looks good, but you get the feeling of "but is this the best it can look" because of the lackluster settings. don't know if you would be able to tell but would you know if Sony X90J would be in HGIG or DTM? I'm assuming it's in HGIG since it's one of the "perfect for PS5" models with auto tone mapping? plus it's pretty dimmed in HDR for this game.
If the ps5 is getting 80 to 90 fps at 1440p on graphics like last of us remake.... think of when the real next gen engines come I mean I'm not saying there'll be games running at 4k/60 in unreal engine 5 but this conning from a console is 👌 I mean its knocking on a 2080s door running like this.

Then, what are the correct settings for LG C1 on HGIG?
NEED HELP! I have a LG G1 65inch. I can't get unlocked framerate feature to work. I have all the correct settings turned on my ps5 and tv it self for VRR.. The game optimizer keeps saying VRR is off even tho the setting is turned on. Not sure what else to do.
Should I being forcing 2160p under ps5 resolution or just leave it on automatic? I can’t find a straight answer anywhere. I’m on an LG C1 btw.
I don't think it makes a difference. Auto will always adjust to 2160p output resolution for the C1.
@@AbrahamZX1 that’s what I thought too. Thank you
Amok you play in Warm 1 or Warm2 ?
I noticed some kind of pink tint on my c2 when watching a white screen from an angle. Do you also have this on your g2? Its only noticeable on a whitescreen.. i dont know if this is normal
No not normal i dont have it
It will go away with time, I had same issue on E7 and then on the C9 and both clear up with time ….
You should check out forcing hlg hdr with hgig it looks alot more accurate to hdr
I NEED HELP. My monitor does supports HDR when playing TLOU 2 but for some reason when I'm in TLOU remake I can't enable it bc it says my monitor doesn't support HDR which makes no sense (HDR is always on in my ps5). Does anybody know how to fix it ?
i spent like 2 hour on finding the best color, brightness and black level when i play games
For me, I don’t actually get true black when the game cuts to black🙃 definitely do in other games
All their games are like this but somehow look amazing. Uc4 also only have hdr toggle. No clipping or anything.
I think I play their games with hgig anyway
Der feind ist grausam Wir bringen
Der feind ist riesig Wir springen
🤣🤣🤣🤣😅
just sucks because of panels differ and it's hard to find a calibration in my area for my c1 the. game is insane tho nothing like playing in Boston when u live there
I also have the C1 so what do you wanna know or calibrate, because i also calibrate Oled tv's for gaming but also for normal tv and movies! 👍
Would these settings work with the lgc1?
I messed around with HDR on my PS5 & TV for several hours but wasn't satisfied & came to the conclusion that my games looked better, colors & brighter without washed-out picture, with HDR off.
does this also work for the lg bx? Thanks.
Great video:
Here are points for your video about LOU1 Remakes graphics.
Great looking cutscenes and some night scenes, but
1) Flat 2D sky-box. Not volumetric clouds
2) Low quality shadows outside. Look at grass in the Sun
3) Flat textures, due to low quality anistrotopic texture filtering. Look at the ground
4) Pre-baked lighting.
Its broken
7) 4k40 mode isnt locked 40 fps. Its average 35 fps in VRR. The worst 4k40 mode on PS5, yet.
8) No adjustments of HDR output
9) No Raytracing used for Global illumination lighting, reflections or shadows.

Thanks for the list!
I love your channel and all you do but I'm sorry because on a oled tv this game look insane .. it's soo incredible with the 3d audio and controller. It's by far a new experience
no settings for s95c?
Das Spiel muss unbedingt mit Tone Mapping an gespielt werden 🙂
I but brightness plus 3 and contrast plus 1 looks great
Contrast and HDR should be all the way up to 5, Brightness to 0. Oleds have infinite contrast and HDR will pop.
That is the best looking picture for the game! Agree
HDR on 5 what do you mean with that because for brightness settings you only have contrast and brightness..
yes! finally someone that covers HDR in this game.
Do you have steam deck?
Huh? You expected more? This is a big leap from the ps3 version
PS 5 remake released because of PC version and as we know the HDR is not a strenght feature on pc.
It's a shame you haven't live streamed it.
Funny thing is, REMASTER has better HDR. GO try it, the highlights and lights of cars in the intro DESTROY "the remake"
