what do you do if you need a downrod extension? the extra long wires included look like they are to be connected in the rod itself. seems illegal. is that true?
If an extension downrod is needed, you would connect the provided extension wire and then add the extension downrod. The wire connects using molded adapter plugs. There is nothing illegal about the extension wire.

Yes, the fan must be installed with a downrod. This fan does not have a flush-mount option.
