Hi Carol. Thanks for your lovely message. It’s great to be able to talk to people from all over the world. We love hearing about other people’s campervans too. Please send some of that sun over here ☀️ Take care 🙂
It seems to be getting more difficult to get a space to park up for the night. The general consensus would seem to be forcing everyone with a van onto camp sites for the night. I cant understand the human condition! Great drone footage by the way! Look forward to the next. Andy.
The problem is that wild camping doesn't scale particularly well and we're reaching critical mass. Twenty years ago you could pull up almost anywhere and spend the night in an unobtrusive fashion, but these days you'll often find that other vans have got there first. And it's doesn't feel particularly 'wild' if there are three vans even if there's space for six. There's also the issue of some people staying for extended periods. In Aberystwyth a few years ago, the council discovered that the same few vans had occupied the same free places on South Marine Terrace for most of the summer. Some had even privatized parts of the footpath with planters and flower displays! This is not on. And unfortunately, the solution is to ban overnight parking, since restricting the length of stay would require the kind of policing and administration that local authorities can't afford. This is what has happened at the car park in Ken and Carol's video overlooking Llyn Gwynant. Additionally, unfortunately some (it may not even be a minority) visitors have given tourists such a bad name that innocent campervanners are taking some of the flack. Take a look at this from a few days before Ken filmed in the same location. Local people had to clear that up. www.bbc.co.uk/cymrufyw/saf/57941166

Hi both, another very enjoyable episode. If you are returning to Beddgelert there is a very nice walk (in case you are not aware of it), it is about a mile in length and very scenic and fairly flat. If you go over the bridge in Beddgelert (where you went wrong), there is a turning left just as you cross over the bridge, The lane is called Stryd Smith and runs adjacent to the river. It takes you past some nice Welsh craft shops and you then arrive at the public toilets. From here there is a footbridge, but instead of crossing, you take a right through a gate and this leads you to the walk along the river. You often get to see a heron or two and other wild life during your walk. After about half a mile you come to another bridge (adjacent to the railway line) and you can cross this bridge and return to your starting point along the river on the other side. It is a lovely walk and highly recommended if you have chance. There is a car park about 1/4 of a mile away (so instead of turning into Stryd Smiith, you carry straight on along the A498). The car park is on the right a couple of hundred yards off the main road and sign posted. It was pay and display parking and cost £4 for the day last time I was there (which is a few years ago). Best wishes, Alan.
Glad it isn't just me getting to the boot and realising I haven't unlocked the van. Drives me nuts, it happens every time. Bit harsh blocking all camper vans from a car park even those that fit into a one parking space 🙄. Beautiful scenery and Llyn Dinas looked stunning 👍
Hi ken and Carol, not sure if you are aware of the " britstops " book. You only get it online and its a book where businesses let you park up on their land over night. Might be worth checking out. !!!
Some people are just arseholes or maybe the minority have ruined it for the majority like normal. No doubt the local council will likely close the car park in the evenings eventually.
Ahoy Pirates! Very lovely footage! :D Thanks a LOT for not giving those tiny cute beggers some bread! Mother Nature over there is pretty! I hear ya, Ken! The lake has her ways, that doggie was indeed fearless! :D Thank you for the priceless dronescapism! Carol is badass and adorable with the van door! :) Keep going, dear folks! Bear hugs from Captain of the good old Blackthorne
You've surpassed yourself with all the beautiful footage in this video. We visit Wales often, (as commented re.Criccieth Castle on your Instagram) so this is all lovely to see.
It's always been a bit like that around the Snowdon area. Arm and a leg to park, no stopovers u less you pay somebody. I used to stop either on my friend Sid's drive near Colwyn or at the little CCCsite at Llanistumdwy just the other side of Criccieth. The former was free and you got breakfast and the CCC site was not out of the way for price as it wasn't a high profile club site. Loved the Duck whispering but you'd never cook one in a ridgemonkey 🤣
Haha. Thanks Nigel. Handy to have a friend like Sid in such a beauty spot. It looks like you have to book ahead now if you want to stay at the Pen-y-Pass car park!
@@LifeistooshortCK unfortunately Sid and Brenda are no longer with us so I don't visit Colwyn these days. Seriously, you have to book to use a carpark ? Now that is ridiculous. 🤔🙄
Ken, the car park on the opposite side of the road belongs to the Victoria Hotel, that owns the Snowdpn Mountain Railway. The car park is very large in comparison with the cat park above the station. Trust me you are better in the large car park. Followed you travels around Anglesey with interest as I live in Newborough. Great work and very interesting videos.
Didn’t know the Victoria Hotel owned the railway and that large car park. I wonder why they don’t allow campervans to park there? Thanks for watching and commenting 🙂
I recognise the dodgy road to Beddgelert lol. That's where we encountered idiot drivers going too fast! You could have turned around in the visitor centre car park. Lovely scenery. We love ducks too.
It looks like a not just no camper vans area, but a no tourist place too. I won't be going there. Thanks for doing the video anyway very good as always.
Wales is a beautiful country some stunning views. I think the freeloader man was just jealous .There's always one. Some beautiful shots of the lake Ken. Take care we will look forward to the next one. PS did you find most people are friendly towards vanners.
Freeloaders ? I can't wait until my van conversion is completed so I can join you. People object, when their money making system is bypassed. You probably overpay him the difference within the Barnet formula from England to Wales anyway. I will be doing the same as you when I am able and doing nothing wrong. I am also a cyclist, so I am well used to bigots. A good video as usual !
Have you been camping up the great orme just after half way there is a cafe on the right top of the orme ,go past it about 300yards on the left there is a turn, it will take u to a part where the campers and vans go to camp,,free as well, and no time limit
Thanks for your great series of videos, most enjoyable. You are always mopping the windows of condensation - have you ever tried the cat litter trick? Most people say to put some in a sock or a pair of tights. Not tried it myself but apparently it works!
How are you doing mrs carol mr ken thank you for showing us such magnificent landscapes beauty of nature England have amazing nature the capital London is well known for us only iam very glad to watch your channel because you are as guide tourists for all people around world we as foreigners subscribers as overseas students want to increase our cultural level improve our English language as well i gathered main information about place you visited briefly here it’s llanberis is village community and electrical ward in gwynedd. North west wales on southern bank of lake liyn padarn and at foot of snowdon highest mountain in wales center of our door activities in snowdonia including walking mountaineering climbing mountain biking pony trekking as well as water sports such as scub diving community includes nanteeris
Hmmmm. As ever Ken and Carol, a great video but revealing too of our creaking tourist industry. I can think of nothing more stressful than dealing with traffic on those narrow lanes; being shouted at by mad people; turning up at a tourist attraction and be made to feel unwelcome. There’s also the issue of “honeypot tourism” where places like Eryri National Park (Snowdonia) are fast becoming no go areas because of the volume of visitors. Nope. Think I’ll stay at home and let Ken and Carol suffer on my behalf! Still, that scenery is stunning . . .
Like the previous comment, I have just had my dinner and with tea in hand I am settling down to start to watch your latest video, one thing I personally would not like is having to drive up and down taking up time looking for overnight parking, this is not a criticism but an observation, a lot of time is waisted, It seems the Welsh want you to holiday in there country as long as you park in England, take care U 2, Colin.
It might seem wasted time but actually it’s just like being out for a drive in the car. This night every place we checked was too busy so we just kept on driving.
Hi we really enjoyed your recent tour of North Wales. We particularly appreciate the frequency of your vlogs and their quality in terms of content and production. Inspired by you guys we’ve bought a Mazda Bongo which isn’t much bigger than you’re NV200 and are heading out today on our first trial run of a couple of nights on a campsite in Somerset. Not quite “wild camping” but it’s a start! Please do keep up the good work and releasing content whatever the subject - for example we always enjoy your insight into van life and cooking tips. One last thing have you considered releasing the location of park ups using what3words? Some other van vloggers do it and I thought it’s maybe something you might consider. Thanks again….
Hi Nick. Glad you enjoyed the videos 👍. I am sure you will love the Bongo. Good vans. If a site is on Park 4 Night we what 3 word it as it is already in the public domain. Where a site could be ruined if its location was made too easy to find we don’t. That will be frustrating for some and a blessing to others. Apologies.
@@LifeistooshortCK no don't apologise - I understand and actually agree that want to avoid sites being swamped... I would be interested in is a video on the legalities of perk ups and sleeping in a vehicle. Having Googled it, my understanding is that assuming you're not under the influence of alcohol or drugs, there is nothing illegal about sleeping in a vehicle. Therefore, unless the landowner or local authority specifically state no parking and/or camper vans, or sleeping in vehicles in their signage, then there is no reason legally why anyone can't sleep in a vehicle on public highway whether a car or a van.... is this your understanding?
Yes that is my understanding. You might of course be trespassing which is a civil matter. If asked to leave by the owner you should do so as reasonable force could be used if you don’t and that is simply not worth the risk.
Yeah they have major issues with people parking on the roads up there and regularly do towaways, I would have done the same with the red light, looks like someone left the lights on from the last job and they were just cycling through lol. Interesting that they don’t allow campers at the railway anymore.
There seems to be an increasing discrimination against campervans. They get charged more than cars in some car parks and get banned completely in others.
Hello that was beautiful scenery in the mountains another part I have not really seen the clear lake was quite something to see loved your drone footage , what was the music playing in the background ? you do put a lot of effort into doing your videos very much appreciated . I wonder where you spent the night I am sure you found a good spot :) take care .
Awesome your small camper, interesting equipment, attitude towards free camping (does no harm whatsoever the way you do it) and like your detailed comments. But always cringe while watching the actual driving parts of the videos. Well, its because I'm German and you British folks drive on the leeeeft.... I somehow jump each time a car comes your way. But maybe your videos are a good preparation for travelling in your parts one day. LOL. Keep it up, its beautiful. Good luck and lots of good times out there.
@@LifeistooshortCK well, hope those crazy times pass by one day and free traveling will be possible again. Love these amazing landscapes a lot, by the way.
@@LifeistooshortCK by the way, my partner has a bigger camper van, Citroen jumper based modell built in Germany. Nice thing, but already caused expensive trouble. The bills give us the creeps. And they keep coming. So, thank God for a more decent car.
1) Yes, you are a bunch of free-loader's. All those years paying tax, buying a camper, travelling around buying fuel, paying road tolls, paying to camp, buying groceries and eating out. I'd say that makes you free-loader's for sure. 2) I've just decided. I'm cancelling my trip around the UK. You can't even park at the side of the blinkin' road without paying. 3) I love ducks too. Gently golden roasted on a charcoal bbq. 4) I await the next riveting installment with baited breath.
Really glad you didn’t do a BBC special and call Snowdon , mount Snowdon. It is a pet hate of mine .The BBC and our friends across the pond like to put mount in front of everything they can .I guess it’s a delusions of grandeur on the BBC part. Thank you for not falling into this bracket. Happy travels in that wonderful part of Britain.
Freeloader comments probably refers to the fact that is so illegal to wildcamp in wales without the land owners permission. However as you pick quiet spots and are considerate by leaving as you found it and not over staying that should be allowed.

The berator was probably a free camper himself. I don't understand why this is frowned upon so much in the UK. Park up after dark, hasty departures at dawn. You are supporting local businesses. I'm preparing my VW Caddy as a weekender and I can't imagine being harrassed like that here in Victoria 🦘
Interesting reading the comments on this video and picking up the theme of unfriendly attitudes and poor tourism in Wales. We have family in both sides of Wales and have learnt Welsh. We return a couple of times a year to deal with family graves and have normally taken the opportunity to stay in local hotels or b&bs. However we have found that everything is now overpriced, the services are poor and it seems difficult to find a decent place to eat at a reasonable price. So we have decided to just do the journey in one day.
@@mattb1951 you read wrong .. it's basically junk food for them, but it's still food, which is better than NO food, particularly in winter ... and it certainly doesn't damage their swallowing ability or anything of the sort
@@mattb1951 I don't need it Google it... I work with ducks and swans on a daily basis... But given that, I did anyway... All official sources say the same thing... Bread is fine in small amounts but holds little nutritional value.. it's junk food
Things certainly speeded up when Carol took the wheel. The "Snowdonia Lake" you refer to at 3:18 and 5:33 is in fact two lakes. Llyn Padarn then Llyn Peris. And if the ducks are at Padarn Country Park, is that not out of sequence if you've left Llanberis behind you and driven through Beddgelert? Looking forward to the next episode. You're about as close as I get to a bacon roll.
Thanks Peter, you are right about those lakes. We did in fact loop back to Llanberis after Beddgelert as we wanted a scenic drive to charge up the battery but well spotted 👍😁

Thanks Sue. Can’t understand why camervans aren’t allowed to park there even during the day.
Hi ken and Carol, not sure if you are aware of the " britstops " book. You only get it online and its a book where businesses let you park up on their land over night. Might be worth checking out. !!!
Thanks Garry. We’ll have a look at that 🙂👍
@@julierogers1155 if I remember rightly I just went on to Google and put in britstops.
I joined recently and have used it once in North Devon. The idea is that you do use the services of the establishment normally a pub.
Freeloaders in a free park up space.... You just can't win sometimes.
Thanks Kata. We thought you would enjoy the paddle boarding scenes and that cute little dog. All the best Captain 😀
It’s our country park in any lay-by with a verge in the road all lega we pay taxes they got nothin better to do
Topography much more rugged. Great drone shots as always. Yup, keep the cook. Looked good.
Thanks John. Will do 😁
You've surpassed yourself with all the beautiful footage in this video. We visit Wales often, (as commented re.Criccieth Castle on your Instagram) so this is all lovely to see.
Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching and your lovely comments 😀
Great Video, We have just stayed near Dollgethau & I tried paddle boarding at Bala Lake, Brilliant fun
We will have to try paddle boarding one day 😃 Glad you had a great time.
Again, no campervans in the car park 😡 even if yo can fit in a single space....crazy. The views at Llyn Dinas were amazing.
It certainly puts us off visiting a place when we see those signs.
It’s a shame they are losing good business by banning campervans 🙁
I live round that bit of north wales. its quite normal to see the tm guys driving round with the traffic lights cycling on the trailer.
That’s interesting Peter. We have never seen anything like that before 🙂
Wales is a beautiful country some stunning views. I think the freeloader man was just jealous .There's always one. Some beautiful shots of the lake Ken. Take care we will look forward to the next one. PS did you find most people are friendly towards vanners.
Thanks Michael. We had some tooting horns in a couple of spots and only the one bad comment. Most of the people we talked too were other vanners.
Good free as the wind UP Theirs ha haha
👍🙂
Absolutely beautiful photography. Nooooo I bet you find somewhere
Thanks Michelle 👍🙂
Freeloaders ? I can't wait until my van conversion is completed so I can join you. People object, when their money making system is bypassed. You probably overpay him the difference within the Barnet formula from England to Wales anyway. I will be doing the same as you when I am able and doing nothing wrong. I am also a cyclist, so I am well used to bigots. A good video as usual !
Thanks Steve. Good luck with the van conversion and hope you can get on the road soon 👍🙂
Have you been camping up the great orme just after half way there is a cafe on the right top of the orme ,go past it about 300yards on the left there is a turn, it will take u to a part where the campers and vans go to camp,,free as well, and no time limit
We did go to Great Orme earlier in this trip th-cam.com/video/4xRuC0oDbso/w-d-xo.html not sure if we stayed at the place you mention.
Thanks for your great series of videos, most enjoyable. You are always mopping the windows of condensation - have you ever tried the cat litter trick? Most people say to put some in a sock or a pair of tights. Not tried it myself but apparently it works!
Thanks Neil. We’ve not tried the cat litter trick so thanks for the tip 👍🙂

Very good Khatoon 🙂👍
Still, that scenery is stunning . . .
😁👍
We stayed a bit further down the same lane just past golf club had the same people beeping
Great video, someone needs retraining on loading temporary traffic lights on a trailer or at least how to turn them off!
beautiful scenery fantastic views
I hope you found some
where to stay overnight.
stay safe. 🙂
Thanks Moira 🙂👍
They get charged more than cars in some car parks and get banned completely in others.
you have to pre book parking in an around Snowdonia now
Takes all the fun out of roaming around freely in a campervan but I suppose it is a necessity in high season to stop the congestion.
Thanks Shaun. That track is The People by Kyle Preston 🙂
@@LifeistooshortCK Thank you Ken I looked it up on TH-cam great music perfect for working in my workshop:)
Thanks Molly. Hope you get to visit the UK soon 😊
Yes they can be a bit of a money pit if they go wrong. 👍
@@LifeistooshortCK I really keep fingers crossed for you 2 and your little van.

Well said Ade, you are spot on with your comments as usual. We would make a good team; I’ll entice them and you cook ‘em 😁

Glad we didn’t let you down there. Thanks for watching.

Freeloader comments probably refers to the fact that is so illegal to wildcamp in wales without the land owners permission. However as you pick quiet spots and are considerate by leaving as you found it and not over staying that should be allowed.
Hi, some of the ‘no overnight parking/ no campers allowed’ signs look homemade/ unofficial...can you simply ignore these if there is no council logo?
There was a homemade sign where we stayed at Cemaes Bay.
Anything just to get money out off us u cant win🙄brill vid as usual 👍

Well spotted. We have zoomed in on that shot and there is a manmade weir creating a small pool 👍🙂
I will show it in closeup in future episode 23 👍
No that's not the infinity 👍

The berator was probably a free camper himself. I don't understand why this is frowned upon so much in the UK. Park up after dark, hasty departures at dawn. You are supporting local businesses. I'm preparing my VW Caddy as a weekender and I can't imagine being harrassed like that here in Victoria 🦘
It doesn’t happen often. Enjoy your Caddy 👍
We are heading there soon so will update on our experiences. 👍
Freeloaders? Why because you want to avoid being exploited.
Some people - honestly 😒

Freeloaders???
Things certainly speeded up when Carol took the wheel. The "Snowdonia Lake" you refer to at 3:18 and 5:33 is in fact two lakes. Llyn Padarn then Llyn Peris. And if the ducks are at Padarn Country Park, is that not out of sequence if you've left Llanberis behind you and driven through Beddgelert? Looking forward to the next episode. You're about as close as I get to a bacon roll.
Didn't Carol loop back round to Llanbêr via Groeslon?
Thanks Peter, you are right about those lakes. We did in fact loop back to Llanberis after Beddgelert as we wanted a scenic drive to charge up the battery but well spotted 👍😁
I am really enjoying the North Wales trip. I seem to have got a bit lost though - after leaving Anglesey I thought you stayed alongside a reservoir. Could you put me right please?
Glad you are enjoying the videos. Our last night on Anglesey was at Penmon Point lighthouse. The next day we went to Caernarfon and spent the night in the park near the castle. Next we went into Snowdonia National Park which is this Vlog no 20.
