    Not necessarily "difficult" but there is no excuse for making basic maintenance this much of an endeavor. I mean I can see having to do some of this to change gear oil a couple times in the machines life, but something as basic as changing the oil should be easy to do. Clearly designed to scare most owners into towing it to the dealer each time.

      yep, and to keep me from buying one despite thinking its the superior quad overall. I like being able to do a quick refresh after aggressive riding especially in mud

      You don't have to remove all the stuff he did. You remove one panel in the right hand wheel well and you have access to the oil filter cap. This is NOT the way to do it.

      Got to be easier then that ??!?? My 2011 650 Outlander takes ONE BEER to change the oil

      Thanks Stacey! Glad to hear you found it helpful! I will be making more videos in the future as it needs more maintenance/repairs. Brake pads shouldn’t be too hard to do and I did hear they can wear out fast too!

    Great video. Wow, a lot more involved than I hoped. Gone are the good old days where there was no trim to remove and the engine was in plain sight.

      Thanks, and yes it is more involved then I’d like it to be as well! Believe it or not it is way simpler than the oil change process on my 4stroke snowmobile!

      @@bikermike got it done today. Thanks again. Had a bit of an oil leak at the drain plug so hit it with engine degreaser and the power washer, put some more torque on the plug and all is good now.

    Absolutely crazy to have to do all shown to change oil/filter. Polaris is simple and easy to get to. Why would anybody buy a Can Am?

    just a tip says screw oil filler stick in to check full level if u just let it sit there not screwed in if its at bottom mark it will e full when screwed in

    I have a 2015 outlander 850 bought it New and never used it...only had 200 miles on it but now I started riding every weekend
    Just brought it for my first service they changed oil plus the transmission oil and spark plugs.....I wonder if they actually did everything
    The panels were not installed back correctly they were not not aligned
    They charged me $398

    Any chance you can get t the oil filter just buy removing the side plastic only? When I change the oil on a 2010 Outlander I can still get to it, just take my time.

      Kit came with 2 liters (quarts) and a little extra bottle. It was more than enough for my 850.

    Thanks for the video. The oil filter housing didn't come from the factor with the gasket on my 2021 Outlander 850 Max... Do you know why that might be? Should I have not used the gasket?

      Seems odd for sure, did it get stuck to motor? Was it leaking at all?

      @@bikermike I looked closely at the motor, filter housing, and the ground… didn’t see one. It wasn’t leaking. Strange.

    Mike, Dan here from Saint John NB. I have a 21 Outlander Max XT 650. (1st ever Bombi wheeler.. always a Yammi guy before this one). Where did you get your service manual? The stock owner’s manual is pretty week lol..doesn’t even give oil capacity. Great vids btw, I’ll be doing a few more on this bike on my channel soon (GnarlyChicken). I’ve only got 104 KLM’s on mine and decided to check the oil level….had to suck out over a 1/4 litre of oil!!!!Dealer musta got a little overzealous when doing the psi…And this is why we do our own maintenance!

      My owners manual came with Quad, it is ok but its not a service manual either..lol..
      Im a Yamaha fan myself too!
      Yes need to run bike for a while and check when warm to get proper oil level.
      Im pretty sure you'll be extremely happy with the machine and its performance. It will have some big shoes to fill compared to the yammies reliability but time will tell, and so far so good with mine!

    If canam made maintenance more reasonable I'd buy one tomorrow... I can change diff and oil on my grizzly before you get all your plastics off :(

    Removing the cover one screw at a time will surely warp it. Better to back each screw out a quarter to have a turn, the same way when tightening the cover down.

    What did you tourque the drain plug to?? 22ft/lbs sounds high

      I honestly just did it by feel. If that is whats spec'd by the manual it doesn't seem too far off. 8mm bolts on triple clamps are 15-17 ft lbs if I recall correctly. I'd just do it by feel if your comfortable with that.

      You don’t have to do all the things he’s doing, you can take the panels in the wheel well out to access the filter cover. Takes me half he to change the oil.

      @@bikermike I was just curious I’m doing an oil change at 25 hours cause I figure it can’t hurt and I bought full synth from dealer to do it and was looking things up and had to ask what made you do the 5w-40 over the full 0w-40

      @@punkywood3037 Full synthetic isn't as good for break in. You want just a hint of wear to get everything seated just right. When breaking in small engines like my generators, I use regular dinosaur oil for the first 4 oil changes but change super frequently. I've got a 2021 XT-P 850 and I'm changing oil this week at 19.6 hours. Semi synthetic this time for me as well. Next change will be around 50 hours and I'll go full synthetic at that point.
