Thanks for the great tutorials as always! I did have one question I thought you might know the answer to. Sadly, Reddit hasn't come up with a good solution yet. I've been working on learning the F/A-18 since I finally got more comfortable in the Viggen I had been ignoring. Anyhow, I tried using the loft bombing technique with the GBU's. I set the waypoint (2 in this case) on the MFD down below and designate it as the target. Around my spawn alt of 10,000 the Auto release cues all appear on screen. I can see the line and everything. But once I start descending to get to a low altitude and run in before the pull-up portion of the attack, I lose the vertical line and the launch cue. I wasn't sure if there's something obvious I'm doing wrong or what. I'm going to keep experimenting with it, and hopefully sort it out, but I thought someone else might know better. Edit: I may have accidentally stumbled on the answer via your waypoints video. I'm wondering if it was an issue with the waypoint being in the air. Since I assume the auto bombing system would use the altitude of the waypoint to assign the bombing cues, maybe since that was at 7000ft or whatever I set it at in the editor, the auto bombing computer would think that I was below the target, which it thinks is in the air. I will test it out tonight.
Can someone tell me why my weapons are crossed out? I cannot get this to work. All my laser guided bombs have an X through them, and on the HUD they say DUD and have targetting mode crossed out too. I've tried changing everything.. different modes, fuses, everything. I cannot get this to go away. I also had Mk82 unguided bombs, and those were not crossed out, and worked fine. But cannot get these laser guided bombs to work! Thanks in advance for any help!
hi man, thks so much for the explanation, i like we have lots of way to fullfill the task. The mission is a simple mission selected through the one of caucasus map. While using waypoint as reference i can hit only if i use lgu82 not lgu83...are those bugs or i am missing something?!? thks
Great video ! Since they are dropped from high altitude. Can laser guided weapons be delivered if the enemy has SAMs ? or would you need to have SEAD missions first? I saw you had AAA in your mission but you seemed to be flying high enough that they did not shoot. Thanks!
It depends on the threat, if you can safely fly above their engagement range then yes, if you can't, then it'd be a bad idea. Things like the SA-8, IR missiles, AAA guns, SA-15 are all fairly easy to fly over at somewhere around 26,000ft there's probably a few others but i can't recall them off top of my head.
Which is the best unit to use as an AFAC that will laser designate the targets for you? A friendly air or ground unit? I am having some issues using a predator drone. It will respond to my radio call and say there is a target available for laser guidance with code 1688 but as I am starting my attack run, they say 'no mark' and I cannot get a laser lock.
it sounds like they don't have a line of sight? the laser on jtacs has a very short range for some reason, i usually your bradley's or tow humvees set in advanced actions to hold fire and invisible so combat doesn't start. Also make sure in the Jtac options you've told them to use an ir laser mark
@@RedKiteRender I haven't thought of using the invisible option. I got it to work with the drone now, I had it at 5000feet orbiting. I was having issues because I had the radio freq different in the action menu and in the coms freq box for that unit. Thanks for the reply!
You'l either need the map maker or a player with targeting pod / player combined arms jtac to get lat/long for the moment. Alternatively you can lookup the grid online and use a convertor to change it.
Will there be a tutorial for the AGM-88C at some point in the future? I noticed this weapon has been added to the hornet, but im not entirely sure that it relies on a TGP.
The AI can make use of the AGM-88, We're waiting on the cockpit systems required to use it. The waypoint is used by the ballistic computer to drop the bomb in the rough area, the laser is what guides it directly into the target. Without the laser you'd miss by several 100 feet. You need to drop the bomb close enough to the laser for it to see the laser spot and start following it.

@@RedKiteRender That's what I thought too. Maybe I just messed up JTAC again. Gonna try it again later today. Happy new year, by the way! Keep up the great content :)
I haven't seen a good video for setting up the jtac the way you have. Just one from 104th maverick with an auto threat spotter. Anybody know where I can find a tutorial to set it up like redkites?
Just place a unit, give it the advanced waypoint action as jtac, set a target group and insure it's got line of sight. It'l warn you if it cant see them.
Its a shame that the data entry is still bugged anytime you set northing and easting it changes from what you put in and is only relative within what I have noticed about 200 feet off the spot not very accurate
The data entry is correct, its converting into mins/secs its the same location you entered. Lat/long simply has a fairly wide margin for error as we're not using many decimal places. MGRS will be much more accurate, but lat long is plenty for laser guided bombs.
Place a unit, add advanced waypoint actions, set as JTAC and give it a target group. It'l give a warning if it's got no line of sight, which is required for lasing. It's also a good idea to set the ROE to hold and invisible on to prevent it from attacking/getting attacked.
You'l have to communicate with them over chat or radio, often servers use SRS Simple radio standalone. It's a voice chat program that hooks into dcs and simulates the radio systems. Players who own the Combined arms module and occupy a tactical commander or game master slot can then control ground vehicles and use a sight that allows you to place smoke markers, get co-ordinates and fire a laser designation. With these tools you can co-ordinate with a player in an aircraft.
That white cylinder is the ATFLIR pod model for the old ai hornet model, its got no texture, not a HARM. That said both HARMS and JDAM/gbu-38's can be used without a targeting pod. JDAMs only require co-ordinates, even the A-10c can drop them with just hud designation or on a waypoint. The HARM is a standalone weapon that can be enchanced by use of a special HTS pod, but thats only on the F-16.
Reality and simulation are always going to differ, especially when dealing with classified or partially classified information. The white ATFLIR model is an old placeholder thats being phased out and replaced by the new f/a-18c lot 20 model you can play. Note that the 3d model and textures are also much less detailed in those shots than the player controlled version. It did actually have a texture at one point, and now it's also clipping inside the engine inlet. But since it's being replaced they're not fussed about fixing it. The ai model is only present to maintain compatiblity with old missions. The player controlled replacement with the pod is probably still two months from release at a minimum. Speaking strictly from a DCS standpoint i fully expect we'l be able to use gbu-38s without a targeting pod, provided we have accurate coordinates . Just like we can with the DCS A-10c module. And agm-88 harms will function in a harm as sensor capacity not requiring the ATFLIR. Whether or not the real systems can operate in 100% the same way or if standard operating procedures prohibit those types of actions is a little beyond the scope of a public consumer simulator even one as highly realistic as this. The Team prodcing it work tightly with the US government to insure they're not breaking any rules or classifed information. This often results in some deliberate deviations as required by their contracts.
Also, I'm not sure if the three criteria you've noted red kite are needed to hit your target. As long as a jtac is lasing no waypoints or tdc slew designation is needed. Watch caps video via the reapers. He has no waypoint, just a jtac auto lasing some tanks. Flies in in ccip drops, direct hit with the ccip pipper way off the target at 17000 feet.
Eh , I guess I'm not really right. rewatched your video again on your first drop and that's essentially what he did, although i would say that it seems you can be fairly off target and the bomb will still hit
I wouldnt rely on Cap's videos. They're basic and rushed, often missing details, he didnt even tell you the script he used. Ive given all the different ways you could employ gbu's in this video, using the built in jtac which will be the most common you'l come accross. Whilst you can be pretty far off the mark, its really bad practice to allow that to happen, you'l have a much higher success rates spending a moment to set up properly.
Pretty sure all you have to do is drop in CCIP and have nice day! Next time dont use smoke top identify your target. You dont want to be over the target area for too long. No need fo WP when we have a laser and soon to be integrated targeting pod. Dont complicate your tutorials for the rookies!
Dropping in CCIP is a bad idea as it forces you to fly over the target in a dive, or to guess when to release. This results in lower probability of success and increased risk of exposure to aa or ir missiles. This video covers gbu employment without a targeting pod by using a ground jtac and some tricks to make it easier, visual reference like smoke fired from a jtac, talk on or a laser spot tracker is required unless you like guessing. The abilities of a tpod have no relevance here. Im not the one firing smoke at the target, nor loitering for ages via any of these methods. With all possible respect, im not going to teach people bad habits that can get you virtually killed because they're lazy.
Like i'd said, if you're not familiar, go check out the basics i linked in the description to give you a strong foundation on bombing in the hornet. Dont throw yourself in the deep end by starting here.

Thank you for not being like that Grim Reapers guy who explains literally nothing.
You're very welcome! Hope you find many more of my videos useful.
2:30 the bomb is a jet
All this while flying the aircraft and trying not to get shot down.
Y not use jdam lol
Jdams can't hit moving targets and are less accurate.
How about put a damn ground radar in your damn combat simulator .
Way too much complicate 😫😫
Like i'd said, if you're not familiar, go check out the basics i linked in the description to give you a strong foundation on bombing in the hornet. Dont throw yourself in the deep end by starting here.
@@RedKiteRender no problem, ill still fligh AV8 or A10. If f18 is finished with base avionics, than i fly the Hörner again.
@@autracer hmm are you drunk? or just in a hurry meaning your typing
