Hey Buds! This is the companion video to the AGM-65E Laser Maverick Tutorial that you can find here: th-cam.com/video/LItJlJHHhOs/w-d-xo.html I hope the video enhances your fun and enjoyment of the DCS: F/A-18C Hornet and if you liked the video please give us a like and a subscribe and consider supporting us on Patreon!
Thank you thank you thank you for this tutorial. I have been struggling for 2 days to use the agm 65e and for some reason I can barely use that thing, it honestly has nearly turned me away from using anything outside of fc3 planes. I did watch your tutorial for the E version and still was iffy if I got it to work. Watched this vid tonight and within 15 mins I was able to fire 4 65f at 4 different targets and hit all 4. Your tutorials have made it possible for me to learn my first full module. Your tutorials are so well explained and shown without throwing too much at a beginner in 1 tutorial.
Thank you for posting. You make it very easy to follow. I set myself up a training mission while watching this and was able to follow along. Now I have another weapon in my arsenal. Happy hunting bro!
dude seriously best dcs tut ever, took me 3 days of watching someone elses tuts and they never worked. 7 mins into this video i finally fired my first maverick!
Thank you, I was doing a Cerberus North campaign and I didn't know I can use TPod with agm65f, as you said lining up that maverick with a target is really hazardous to my health, especially mental health...
Hello, I ask you, without Flir, if I use the left panel to lock the AGM 65F, everything is fine, but when I get to lock a point on the ground from the Hud I can't unlock it again, cage/uncage doesn't work, if I go back to the panel left and put ungage back to look at the point I assigned in the hud. Do you know how to unlock a fixed point with the hud?, greetings
Hey, just came across your videos today and i gotta say im enjoying them. I am newish to dcs and learning a lot from you. please keep up the good work.
Tip for 11 and 1 clock positions: add direction first, I.e. “bogey right 1 o’clock “ that way if you mistakenly say “right 11 o’clock “ your flight still knows right and one clock position from center.
Hey Spudknocker, why aren't you answering the people's questions below? Like finding a target without a waypoint...I can put the triangle on the target from a distance and depress TDC and the triangle doesn't go anywhere near where the triangle was pointing when you depressed TDC...almost impossible to find the target without flying around and searching blind. Help us!!
How does the Mav even know the range? If it is slaved to the Pod sensor, which currently doesn't seem to provide range data, how to determine to be within release range?
Thank u for that video, that was helpful . Question tho , 1) Why it doesn't work when the target is moving ? , it locks the target but after pressing depress , it unlocks the moving target on flir screen . 2) Why PTRK , ATRK gives the same result 3) What would be the plan B for a moving target ?
stationary might work so so - BUT - I can not get it to work on moving targets - atflir, gmt radar, those mavs will not track. Furthermore - I can not even slew the mav seeker by TDC, I am really desperate..
Hey Spudknocker, good vid, very helpful. Maybe you could help me figure out how to slew the Maverick when designated with the TGP? I can slew just fine without a TGP but no movement at all once designated. My Mavericks do not always align on the designated point so a slight adjustment slew is needed but I just cannot do it. Undesignate bore sights the pod away from target area but does then allow the Mav to slew, just cannot figure this out
65f are fire and forget, right? As you get better and faster you could lock 2 or 3 targets at a time and each missile will keep it's own target that you locked?
Been practicing this, but its a royal pain to find the targets. End up flying past them or just never finding them. Maybe I need to build a practice range or something.
Good tutorial... is it possible to switch between targets after every single launch and shots all of your Mavericks in a single pass? Is there a specific angle of attack to launch missile or you just have to be in range? (I see sometimes X over Mav on your HUD took a while to goes away)
PiSkiS320 you can, but the rack launchers for AGM-65’s has a seriously tiny impact on aircraft performance so there’s no real need to jettison them, unless you wanna waste taxpayer dollars haha
Hey, Spudknocker, I hope Wags gives y'all the B61 bomb for the Viper and Hornet. I can hardly wait to see your tutorial on that! Nothing can stop me now. 'Cause I'm the Nuke of Eeeeaaaarrrrllll...
Nice vid! I remember when the TPOD first came out there were glitches using it to slave the F variant, it was hard to maintain the target lock. Has that been improved? If not I might have to stick with the E atm.
@@Spudknocker I'm not sure if it is a bug or a feature, but I have realised that the HOTAS FOV change command does not work for either the TGP or the Maverick, when a Maverick or a HARM is loaded, also I can't slew the Maverick by itself at all when TGP had been designating a target before, even if I undesignate the TGPs target.
@@MrChaosProf Identical issue actually. Wonder what's happening here? I'm not able to have the Maverick slew to target when moving the sensor from right to left DDI either.
Thanks Spud, great video. I'm following the same sequence but my MAV's never uncross. I have no idea why. The only difference is the TGP is set based on a waypoint designate function rather than manually. Looking at your video i can't anything different I'm doing. Any thoughts?
@@gw3993 Sure thing. Have you TGP on and timed out ready for use (i typically have it on the right ddi). in the centre DDI set the waypoint you're interested in looking around as if you were going to use it for navigation. under those arrow buttons there should be a WPDSG button. Hit that and voila you'll slew the TGP to that waypoint.
This is a good tutorial. How do you find the targets though? I can never find them, I end up wasting so much time trying to slew around to locate a target, there has to be an easier way, I must be doing something wrong. Can't you just make the pod look at the waypoint? I designated the waypoint but I can never find the target.
Great tutorial as always, specially for me as a totally newbie in Hornet world. btw welcome to Iran :)) I still wish ED could design Zagros plant cover at some point. PG map is just soil in ED lol P.S. as I checked Warren's videos he had travelled to Alborz mountains and Dizin Ski resort, or maybe I didn't find his journey in Zagros :)
Something must have changed because when I use FLIR instead of CCD I see less. I can easily spot a tank in the desert using CCD but in flir its just a dark shadow.
You probably need to mess with gain, contrast, and brightness controls on the DDI in general; but also IR most has a white hot and black hot mode, so try switching to illuminating targets over background. I don't use the TGP on the F/A-18 (I use ATFLIR instead) but from this video it looks like the way to change between black and white hot is the OSB on the bottom row, all the way to the left. It's that both on the Maverick display and TGP display. There's a reason why on the A-10C, controlling IR white hot, IR black hot, and CCD is right on the HOTAS. The pilot wants that control on their fingertips to identify targets quickly and accurately. As far as I know, the F/A-18 only has zoom on HOTAS, but not that.
If you want an excellent bang for your buck for easy to learn and access modules Flaming Cliffs 3 is the way to go. You get several low fidelity aircrafts(meaning non-clickable cockpits, you'll need to rely on hotas and keyboard controls only). An example of low fidelity aircraft for free in dcs world is su-25t. On the other hand if you want to be VERY hands on and medium difficulty, the F/A-18C Hornet is in my opinion the best option. It can be frustrating at first because the learning curve is so steep but it's well worth it once you conquer the hill of learning. DCS World comes with two modules for free, TF-51D(unarmed replica of the legendary P-51D Mustang warplane from WW2) and SU-25T(excellent armed to teeth air-to-ground platform Jet from Cold War, very similar to A-10 in capability). I recommend getting basic understanding of both modules before throwing money at dcs. This is to first of all learn how to setup controls and get comfortable with the game itself before you drown yourself with the book of knowledge required to traverse hornet's menus. Best part of learning those two is the Mustang. You'll learn how non-augmented aircraft flies, how to not snap your wings off, how to trim, etc... It's invaluable knowledge to have before diving into advanced modules.
You really should get the Flaming Cliffs 3 (FC3) low fidelity pack. The worst thing I did when starting, was buying loads of high fidelity modules, without a clue about the basic principles of how to use them. After you've learnt how to fast jet and use the mission editor, then I'd probably say the f18 or f16.
I would recommend the F-5, it's a high fidelity module but it's simple and easy to learn. Once you learn that, you're going to have a much easier time learning the other modern aircraft that have sophisticated sensors and weapons systems.
natmish I would recommend the F/A-18C as a first jet it’s very easy and forgiving to fly, and is scalable for you so you can start with the simple stuff and move to the more complex and is carrier capable, it’s kinda the Swiss Army knife of jets! I know a lot of people are recommending the Flaming Cliffs 3 jets however my opinion is they can actually be harder to learn cause of the number of keybinds rather than having clickable cockpits. For me learning an actual cockpit is much easier
I'm 2 mins in and still wondering... why are you trying to use the IR mav the same way you would just use a laser mav... like I truly don't understand why you would ever need to do this... maybe I'm missing something
How is your map on the AMPCD actually readable. I've never seen it not look like total garbage. Shit even the real hornets AMPCD color map HSI looked like garbage

Those lights in the background at the beginning look so good now. Can't wait until the AG mode in the HMD works.
Yep that will be super cool!
Finally a video that is not completely over complicated
Though I get extreme motion sickness and vomit nearly every time I see your videos, I still enjoy them and DCS
This one is again an amazing tut. As all your content is. Or to say it with the regularly used words of a pretty wise man: "...as always". 😀

I can only do it via DDI buttons :(
How do you get the diamond on right page? What is it listed under controls? I'm using warthog hotas thx.
