While serving in South Korea in 1979 the ROKAF was still using the F86 along with the F5 Freedom fighter. When I arrived there I thought I had gone into the wayback machine.

I love these ones with the older stuff just as much as the more modern stuff. The cockpits with the old analogue dials and stuff gives me a weird sort of "this doesn't look at all f'n safe" anxiety, in a good way, I love it.
Must be an age-thing. I have a 2018 Lincoln that's half electronic and half magic... the gas pedal isn't connected to the engine, and the stearing wheel isn't connected to the stearing rack... and THAT gives me the willies. Much prefer my old Jeep, where everything is bolted together like it should be.
@@robertmiles9942 Got WD40? :) I had the throttle stick on an Audi 5000... idle solenoid freaked out. Good thing it was a stick. Throttle on the K1300 is a little wonky, but not sticky.

I was delivering a load of scrap tires on the south east side of St Louis one time, and theres an air port on the inside of the LEO. They have an actual classic F-86 that flies out of there. I got to see it landing. Beautiful air craft.
It's my understanding that the F-86 was intended to have 20 mm cannons but the shock of firing the cannons caused engine/compressor problems. This was eventually overcome with the F-86F.

Primitive radar at the time would track the low birds and while the axis is fixated on the low birds, the high birds would come down like hawks sweep in and take them out. Robbie Risner the Mig Alley Ace used to call the Sabre his little sports car. I used to sit on the wing of 1 of the display RAAF Sabre's at RAAF Base Wagga waiting for the bus to take us to school. Was and always will be my favourite jet of all time. Even tho i got to sit in and play around f111's the Sabre was always the best to a young boy now a old man lol.
Love the old-school 1st gen jets, I'd love to see more of them. I know it isn't a close match, but have you done the P-51 vs Mig-15? It is vaguely historical as they both served in Korea, though the P-51 for ground attack, not air-to-air. When it comes out, how about the Corsair?
@@daszieher Corsair can turn tighter than a jet - so - if you see them in time - you can turn into them - and then they are flying into your fire. Here - the Corsair is probably more rugged than a jet. The big thing - is you have to see them and turn into them. If you don't see them then you have a problem. .
@@BobSmith-dk8nw the faster jet can play cat and mouse with the slower Corsair. At will. Which is why Corsairs were ultimately replaced by 1st gen jets.
The US tried to integrate the Hispano cannons used in British warplanes like the Spitfire, but we never could get it working reliably. If you've ever seen the Mustang lend-leased to the Brits with the cannons strapped on, you see these muzzles sticking out from the wings, it's like the airborne version of the Sherman Firefly. The cannon was bigger and heavier than the Browning Ma Deuce, and cannon ammo was bigger than the .50 so you had fewer rounds at full loadout.

BTW, it has been almost a year since I last flew in DCS and wanted to get back into my Sabre Jet. Going to re-start Hunters Over The Yalu once I have refamiliarized myself with this beauty.

I'd still LOVE to see a dogfight between a Mustang and a Corsair!! P-51 Mustang vs an F-4u Corsair. The two aircraft have only ever fought each other once, back in the 60s. The Corsair dominated the Mustang. I'd like to see them fight it out on DCS!!
F-86 greatness! After watching your videos every single day since I found your channel I’ve really enjoyed the WWII, F-86, the Century Series, and Vietnam era planes. Oh, and throw in the Tom because of course throw in the Tom! I don’t know the DCS roster for the 100s, I have seen you fly the Starfighter, but I’m really interested what that looks like. I can only guess how suspenseful an F-105 mission is dodging SAMs all the way to Hanoi. If DCS hasn’t done it they should.
Excellent video! I love the Sabre and would love to see more. I wish you could have the option for our Australian CAC-27, often called the Avon Sabre. It replaced the engine with the Rolls-Royce Avon and swapped the 6x .50s with 2x 30mm ADEN cannons. I’d love to see it simulated and what you could do with it!!

One of the last versions of the original Sabre, the F-2, had 4x 20mm cannons. The Sabre dog and super Sabres followed with cannons as well.

The Sabre v MIG-15 Korean war dogfights are so basic and easy to follow, making them a great intro to the DCS world, imho.
