Everyone who is commenting that this is the BEST tutorial on how to highlight your hair at home is absolutely correct. This is the best in You Tube. I am fairly good at coloring my hair but the foils always left me confused...until now. Thank you...Thank you, Brittnee. You are amazing. Will let you know how it goes. The best to you. You are a true professional...a real pro. And a kind lady. And this is exactly how I wanted to highlight my hair with the face frame popping.
Millie! You are so kind. I was in a mood and this made me feel so much better- so THANK YOU! Please let me know how it turns out- send me a picture! my ig is @brittneealexus
Yes I agree with you all the way. I tried it on myself since I'm in my 40's already with foil paper last year. But I fail 😩. This one is better since u don't actually have to do the wiggle with the come to separate it in order to Highlight. Now I will be doing this & not worry so much about my grey or white hairs 😂 u know what I mean. Then I have my kids counting my grey hairs darnet. Oh well their just kids 😘but funny lol
Hi Brittnee, my name is Christina. I have watched a ton of videos and with these lockdowns my salon closed again for the second time 2 days before my hair appt! I have ton of “roots” like in one of your videos you said “you need roots “! I Also like what someone else pointed out that you don’t necessarily weave just baby sections too see through the sections. My hair stylist says she always does highlights, roots and toner each time, you just did the highlights in the video and it was amazing! At this point for me I’d be so happy with that result for now! I’m wearing a baseball cap everyday, I’m so depressed. Thank you for your wonderful videos! I guess first should I try like you and just do a few highlights first, then attempt roots or toning afterward? I’ve done roots and foils on friends before but never on myself! I also loved the way you showed a little free hand balayage in the back of the head area! Thank you Thank you Thank you! Any suggestions would be appreciated! I’ve ordered everything except I think I should get the Olaplex #2 is it you used? For added protection! I’m sure it will come out fine anything’s better than the 6 months of roots and dull blonde highlights! I normally get my hair done every 4/6 weeks and I know if I can do this it will save me time and money! People can’t believe I have done so often but I think she does it that way just for the money from everything I watched and others comments they say there stylist gives them toners and tips to help make the color last and less appointments. My stylist keeps saying don’t attempt this I told her she’s canceled 3x’s mostly not her fault and who knows when salons will open again I just can wait! It’s so depressing especially as I age and want to look good! Sorry foot rambling but being on lockdown and my hair mess y’all and others make it look like yes I can accomplish something anything before it gets worse! Again thank you! Christina morning email is cvcoyne@yahoo.com. Or if you want I can give you my phone number to send before photos to give you and idea! Have a blessed week, stay safe, happy and healthy! 😘
In isolation in the UK so unable to see my hairdresser and have searched and searched for tutorials! This one is the best explained, minimal effort and maximum results! Thank you!!
This video is older so i doubt you’ll see this comment, but girl I’m so stinkin’ happy right now!! The last touch up from my salon cost $300, so I’ve been looking for some good instructions and have watched a ton in the past, but after watching this video I got encouraged and decided to try it again. I cannot believe I pulled this off 😂 and that it turned out sooooo good!! I’m so excited to watch your other videos and perfect my technique. At this point I have no plans of going back to a salon more than once per year to possibly get the back, etc. Thank you so much for the excellent video that will affect so many people!!❤️❤️
Question, do you think it caused any more damage doing it at home versus how the salon does it? I want to try it I’m just scared it will damage my hair more
It's the same as the salon but at home the colors and products are the same. Don't be scared,go for it! IT is only hair, experimenting is far better than the salon.❤@@kaitybair4552
@@kaitybair4552I was also worried about this. Last time I got it done it was barely noticeable yet it was so bloody expensive, so I was wondering just how damaging it is to possibly overlap the bleach 🤔 let me know if you attempted it and what volume you used, I'm never too sure what volume to use
@@x-starlight-xyou aren’t meant to do it on top of ur already bleached hair, just on the new growth. If ur blonde doesn’t look use toner, don’t think of bleaching it again
I have watched so many DIY highlights tutorials and by far this is the best. Its explained in absolute detail for novices. Its so reassuring to listen to Brittnee, as I'm scared each time I do highlights. I was doing something wrong before and had blotches; Thanks to Brittnee, I did my first absolutely perfect set of highlights!! I watch all of your videos now! You are so cheerful and informative!
When I say this worked amazing I mean it! Thank you for putting this out there for those of us who ignore all appropriate advice and try it on our own anyway. No raccoon stripes. Beautiful blended highlights! And I wasn’t even just trying to fill in roots! I did a whole set!
This tutorial is A BIBLE for roots touch up.❤ Every time before I do my roots at home, I watch this video again. And every time it turns out so good. 😊 Thank you, Brittnee. 💞
Girl, You are amazing!! I watched this several times before I did it. My hands were shaking at first, but after the first side, I got into it. I have an amazing highlight job and saved a bunch of money. I so appreciate you. Thank you. :D
OK, I've been coloring my hair with foils for years and I learned a LOT from you!! I love your personality and the way you educate with precision and ease. I want to watch all of your videos and I'll definitely spread the word!!
This is the best teaching video on DIY highlights because of her DETAILED directions!! AAA++++ teacher. (I think she probably teaches in a pro school....she sounds like a teacher...) Thank you for posting this. I watch it EACH time before I do my own highlights.
I have never done ANYTHING with my hair. Pin straight insanely thick virgin hair, so I needed some texture. this tutorial is the best out there!!! EVERYTHING is described so well I was able to highlight my own hair. Followed her words and it looks almost professional!! Since I’ve never done anything like this before, took me roughly 3 hours to do, from start to finish (clean and styled) but it’s truly amazing!! I had to use roughly 4 oz of bleach, since I have so much hair and thankfully I had enough developer for all the bleach. Amazing tutorial
Can't believe I pulled this off, the results are great! Had a scary moment when I took the foils out but once I washed it with purple shampoo and styled it I can't believe how good it looks. Thank you so much for your brilliant tutorial xxxxx
This method worked so well for my grown-out balayage! My hair is about bra band length and I had about 4” of regrowth. I focused most lightener on the regrowth and pulled some down in areas that the balayage processes hadn’t lightened. Thanks for such clear instructions!
BLESS YOU!!! I just started doing my own foils this past year. Today I use your placement method and I'm so pleased with how it came out! I put a mirror on the wall adjacent to my bathroom mirror and was able to get a few in the back. It came out so nice!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
This channel never ceases to AMAZE me! I graduated beauty school well over 2 decades ago, when foiling was just taking off (at least in Texas anyways) I had the pleasure of learning foiling techniques from the first salon manager I ever worked for who came out of Dallas. when I began doing hair we were pulling everyone’s hair through a cap! No matter the length, texture, etc. later, shared these techniques w/ co stylist and wow we thought it was a sensation. 😂 Mind you, this was back when we were cutting the Jennifer Aniston shag on 7 out of 10women. I have to say that is creator as the absolute best DIY videos for hair ever imagined. If I could hold my arms up that long, I would save the $200 it takes to get my hair partially highlighted 😂
I’ve tried this a few times. The very first time actually looked pretty good- I went to my awesome ( she is awesome but $$$) lady and she asked me why I wasn’t completely satisfied w my last highlight job it looked pretty good to her( aka it was me 😂) I told her and she was SHOCKED and gave me a slew of compliments!!! I’m about to do it again this week. I do my dark roots w perm color first( resistant grays) wait a few days then highlight (30 vol and Swartzkoff blonde me ) and toner of choice
Hands down the best tutorial. I am in now way experienced in doing my own hair but this turned out amazing. I’d say fool proof. Thank you soooooo much! Ps: it took me 2 hours haha
i have had SO many bleach fails i am currently blonde but its grown out and i still get anxiety thinking about the process but just cant afford the salon process right now, but just watching your video has given me this odd sense of confidence that i am about to embark on this journey and conquer this bleaching technique once and for all! thank you for that!
You're welcome! You can do it!!! Just give yourself some grace and if you need help formulating or have any questions my email is in the description box, I answer all hair questions for free there! So you are not alone if you make a mistake, I will help you fix it !
Isn't she unbelievable. Her style is just beautiful. This is the best tutorial I have ever viewed on this.Outstanding.She is so talented. Thanks kindly for putting such positive energy into your channel for us.🤗🌹
I've always done my own hair, with no professional structure other than I'm a watch and learn person. I worked in salons for several years as a licensed esthtician. Since watching your videos a few yrs ago my hair has never looked better! Thankyou for this guidline on doing your own at home highlights and lowlights. ❤❤❤❤ you d best!
I love that you made this video! I'm a hairstylist as well, and normally I dont think it's the BEST idea to show unlicensed people our "trade secrets"..... HOWEVER.....the way the world is right now with covid.... this is SUCH a sweet thing to do to help people out. :) I think it's so much better to teach people some simple kinda basics that they can use to get themselves by until they are able to see us, their friendly hairdressers, again. :) Good work!!!!
At least she's doing video's, I wouldn't have the guts (autistic/ socially awkward lol) . The art of TH-cam commenting... the ability to give constructive critism without sounding like a patronising know- it- all 😆
Oh wow, well i publicly humiliated myself 🤣🤣 I was going to try and delete my comment through shame and pretend it never happened lol, but I couldn't not apologise for being an arse and completely getting the wrong end of the stick😅 the worse thing is, reading it again, I don't know how I managed to misinterpret it🙈 I'll just blame covid lol
From one hair dresser to another, thank you for being so specific… I see so many babies going in blindly. I’ve said it in your comments before but I’ll say it again… Anyone following this, give yourself some grace, practice and know it might not be perfect your first try! It’s just hair though and in a month or so you can go at it again! It can be fixed!!! Good luck to y’all doing it on your own. Loveeee this DIY videos 💕
This is by far the best tutorial ever!! I came to this thinking I'll learn a little from here and then go to other videos and hopefully figure out how to do this. However I left this video with absolutely no questions (as everything was explained as to why you do things a certain way), and feeling extremely confident that I too can do this on myself!! The only question I have is why don't you have billions of subscribers you're absolutely incredible, well maybe 2 why can't there be many more people like you on TH-cam!! Thank you for sharing this Britt, you're truly a beautiful inspiration and such an incredible soul!! I love how humble and down to earth you are!! You make the impossible (or at the very least confusing) very easy to comprehend and possible to do. I'm beyond excited to do this on my hair!! Much love, blessings, and respect from Tennessee to you beautiful lady as well as your friends and family!!
The best tutorial! Only thing I would do different is move the already lightened tail ends of the hair so it sticks OUTSIDE the foils before you fold them up. If you leave them in, it’s gonna get bleach on it and double lighten, which is a recipe for frying your ends.
My mom went and paid 300 (again) for a guy to f up her hair (again) and now today she wants me to cut and highlight and fix it. I feel confident doing mine or my kids, but this is my MOM, so I doubt my skills. Lol I think it's important for you to know you help us have that confidence and you being chill really helps. Thank you, again, for what you do.
Most people who do tutorials are annoying. You are so cute, and explain how to do this very well and simply! I’m 53, have dark brown hair, and I’ve used cap foils that are time consuming. I’m also tired of not getting the color I ask for. Do you use a toner? How would a toner be used for highlights and lowlights? Thanks!
After watching so many different TH-cam videos on different hair highlights at home, this was the one that I ended up attempting! It was such an awesome process and I can’t stop looking at my hair and feeling proud. 😁🎉 Thank you so much for this tutorial! It’s so spot on for being at home and doing this in your own bathroom. I like to keep things simple and I also enjoy being able to do it myself! This way, I can manipulate it more to fit *me*! This was awesome and one I’ll be saving to come back to!
Omg! Ur a Professional & a Godsend! I've done myself years ago but never with such precision & technique. I stopped years ago & just throw a box of born blonde & call it a day cuz it's so much work & I'm lazy!! But I have a pricey topper Id like more highlights in & I need a refresher, TY!! ❤ 😘 ❤
I don’t comment a lot, but I have to tell you how wonderful and helpful your tutorials are! I decided to go for the at home highlights and as I scroll and scroll, I notice a familiar face. Admittedly, I have only used one of your tutorials, and it was to trim my hair and it was a while ago. But it’s gold. So I click this one and of course, it’s also a great tutorial! I’m officially a fan! Can’t THANK YOU enough for taking the time to share your talent with us “DYI is just as fabulous if it’s done right” gals! 😘🤗
This was a great video. Straight to the point. Great no nonsense manner and approach. Love your personality! Your hair looks great and I’m going to try this to do my roots whilst in lockdown. Thanks for the tips x
Thank you for this! You saved my hair! I did my roots last night and I'm so so so pleased with the results! No bleeding foils and natural-looking highlights! Thank you so so so much!!! ❤❤❤
How long did you actually leave the foils on - because there is a big difference from placement of first one and placement of last one???? could take me forever lol
I have spent like 3000 euros at the hair salons so I WILL TRY THIS!!! I have naturally blonde hair but I love the extra lightness and highlights. I will try and let you know (first need to order first)
I know this is an older video but I have to say that this is THE BEST highlighting tutorial I’ve watched. I’m NOT a hairdresser but have been highlighting my own hair for a loooong time. As many times as I’ve done it, I still get nervous and come back to TH-cam just to double check or refresh my techniques lol. Sounds silly I’m sure but I’ve never done my hair disincentive coming across your video. It turns out beautifully every single time!!!! So thank you for sharing!!!!!!😊
I did highlights & low lights. First time ever doing it and it turned out great! Probably not perfect but good enough for me 👌🏽😁 thank you so much! I love all your hair videos, so helpful 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I found your youtube channel by needing my hair done and thinking I'm going to do it myself but I'm scared. Will be my first time doing foils anyways I'm glad I found ya loving your videos♡
I'm so glad you said that about putting the hair on the matte side the foils always confuse me so much this is literally the best tutorial thank you so much
The best you tube video ever for doing your own highlights!! Im currently on maternity leave and cant justify paying sooo much $ to just highlight my roots. I did feel a bit cross-eyed at times😅 as its hard to see certain areas but overall it turned out pretty good and hopefully i get better at it with practice!! Thank you for the helpful video!😊❤
You are a very good teacher! I think you're one of the only people on TH-cam that actually is clear and makes sense! wow! thank you! can you do a video about a natural level 4/5 , doing highlights, that now is a brassy color... do I need to re-bleach the highlights or is there a Wella toner I can use to fix? thank you!
Fantastic!! I'm gonna try this but practice using conditioner first with the foils, I usually do a root smudge myself so it should be okay and thanks from UK 🇬🇧👌💜
I have a question, if you happen to see this! How do you make sure the bleach doesn’t get into the ends when it is in the folded “box”? Wouldn’t it touch the bleach in there? Thanks you are AMAZING!
This was an incredible video. I’ve been watching yours primarily, and others, to get a grasp on how to do my own hair and hopefully one day I’ll be good enough to work on my whole family! Trying to be an official blonde!! This was an amazing tutorial, I’ll be doing this soon (after I give my bleached hair a break 😅)
Thank you SO much for this! Do you have any tips for if you have a small amount of faint grey just around the temples/under the ears, but want to largely keep the rest of your natural base color and add highlights and lowlights? I would like to do a money piece and a few highlights/lowlights around the front and sides using this tutorial, but not sure what to do about the greys! Thank you so much for any advice! This is an excellent tutorial! :)
I love all your videos ❤❤❤. Thank you for this video going to attempt to do this on my hair. Doing on your self is hard. Yours came out beautiful. ❤❤❤❤
I always say this, but I just love you and your videos! This particular video is my go-to that I watch EVERY TIME BEFORE I do my highlights. Because if i didn’t, I forget something important like only dropping the bleach and feathering it up. Let me tell you, that was THE TIP for me! I’ve not had a single F up since doing that. Here is my question though: my base is dark like yours (I’m about a level 4/5), and I’m able to lighten to like an 8.5 (in one bleach session). I tend to have a hard time with toner. Granted, I’ve only used wella and it’s damaging (for me). I’d like to try a demi. What toners do you recommend most in terms of brand? There are so many that it’s a little overwhelming. I skipped toning all together this last time and have just been using purple shampoo mixed in with my regular shampoo (because my hair sucks up all those pigments so easy I have to dilute it a little). I like to tone down warmth. Anyway, thank you for all your tutorials and the edit! It’s always spot on. :)
YOU GO!!! the smakes me so so happy!! My favorite toner is actually a permanent color 8BV by pravana (it is on amazon) with 10 volume on wet hair for 15 minutes. It does not damage but only lasts a couple weeks.
You are an excellent teacher! 😊 Your video was very informative, clear and concise but also to the point and very well done! Too many videos I've seen are so long winded I often get frustrated before the person even gets started. I have been cutting and coloring my own hair for many years and recently started doing my own foil highlights. Your video simplified it so much and answered many questions for me while showing me the correct way to do it. Thank you so much for this video and I look forward to watching others you have posted. I will be subscribing.
Thank you for this super easy to follow and implement! Quick question how do I know which volume to use when and the lowlight level? Want to make sure I get it right! Ty 🙏🏼
Subbed. Watching from New Zealand for a while now. Even learnt to cut my own layers thanks to these tutorials. My hairdresser is going back to France so will give this a go.....💚
Bout to foil my hair for the first time, I’ve been watching your videos for the past month. Gonna give this a whirl. I’ll let ya know Thank you for all your content! 💖👩🏻🦳💇🏼♀️

Question, if the bleach says a smaller ratio like 1:1.5 should we still use 1:2?

What a great teacher... Such great verbal & visual directions. She reminds me of my aerobics instructor years ago. She has gorgeous blue eyes.
I am 50+...and crown of hair beginning to thin🥴 Any tips on foiling techniques to help disguise the thinning? (Highlighting absolutely helps!!)
Love the analogy that "you should be able to read a newspaper" through the hair strands you select for highlighting...

Good work!!!!
Gigi, Thank you! These are crazy times, color correction appointments on the RISE!!!!
Wow! I have never seen this explained so thoroughly for laypeople. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge!
Glad it made sense!! Thank you for watching!!!
The art of TH-cam content, to be able to talk quickly and concise
this is an old video, i have improved but still suck
At least she's doing video's, I wouldn't have the guts (autistic/ socially awkward lol) .
The art of TH-cam commenting... the ability to give constructive critism without sounding like a patronising know- it- all 😆
@@lynseysteward5938 you do actually realize I was giving her a compliment.
@@lynseysteward5938 Everythings all good 😍
From one hair dresser to another, thank you for being so specific… I see so many babies going in blindly.
I love how you explain very detailed and yet in a simple way. I'm going to do it this afternoon and see how it goes. Thanks for this video!!
I just discovered you gurl, i’m in love!!! ❤ You are such a good teacher!!! Thank you so much for all your tips and help 🎉
Thank you finally found a video describing what I need to do tonight and you took the guess work out for me i appreciate you so much ❤
Omg thank you! I am so excited to do this to my hair in a few months! You make it so simple!!❤
Your always giving excellent advise Brittany! Wife always cons me into doing her hair. Much appreciated darlin 🌹
Thank you so much for this tutorial!
Absolutely the most thorough explanation I have seen on TH-cam and I have seen a lot! I mean a lot!!!
Thanks!
You go girl! Thank you!!!!! 🎉
thank you!!!!!!
My hair turned out so freakin good only bc of this video!!! The best tutorial on TH-cam hands down 🙌
YAY So happy it worked for you!!! THANK YOU!!!
You are the only person on TH-cam who can break down in my language on how to properly dye my hair at home!
This was a great video. Straight to the point. Great no nonsense manner and approach. Love your personality! Your hair looks great and I’m going to try this to do my roots whilst in lockdown. Thanks for the tips x
THANK YOU!!!! please find me on IG and send me a pic when you do it! @brittneealexus
Thank you so much for making things clear for once! I have watched so many other videos that left me confused, but you answered everything! ❤
Thank you for this! You saved my hair! I did my roots last night and I'm so so so pleased with the results! No bleeding foils and natural-looking highlights! Thank you so so so much!!! ❤❤❤
OH HELL YEAH!!!! Now go do a hair flip and make the boys buy you something NICE!!! GO GIRL GO!
How long did you actually leave the foils on - because there is a big difference from placement of first one and placement of last one???? could take me forever lol
@@Izzywizzy74 gotta work fast with bleach 😅
So far the best explained babylights tutorial on youtube - I have the impression that I've seen them all hahahah
THANK YOU!!! LOL! When your main page is only highlight tutorials, you're right- you have probably seen them all!!
Omg I never realised you want the matt side up front.... because of the heat of course 😮 thanx!!!
Who needs cosmetology school you were beyond helpful very informative every question I had you already answered thank you
My 13 years old natural blonde is darkening so trying this today. Judging by the comments this is the tutorial to follow. Thank you
Love it! Your videos are the best, quick, to the point and just what I need! Learned alot from you just in 3 videos today! Beautiful!
YAY!!!!!
I have spent like 3000 euros at the hair salons so I WILL TRY THIS!!! I have naturally blonde hair but I love the extra lightness and highlights. I will try and let you know (first need to order first)
Results?
Wow-best I’ve ever seen and fast! Thank you!
THANK YOU!!!!
Love this tutorial! I tried it tonight on my level 5 hair and I can't believe how natural and good it looks! Thank you!
YAYAY!!! GO YOU GO !!!!!!!! Glad it could help!
I didn't try this, but I appreciate such an informative tutorial in laymen terms. Super rad....
Excellent tutorial!! Now I can go back to doing my own hair.
This is basically how I do mine. I love how well yours turned out! 👍
Oh my God, where was this video when I bleached my hair a few months ago.😅 I watched 100 tutorials, but nothing this clear and simple.
YAY!!! Please let me know how it goes and if you have any questions let me know I can help you through the process!!
I'm so glad you said that about putting the hair on the matte side the foils always confuse me so much this is literally the best tutorial thank you so much
yay!!! im glad this helped!!
Fantastic! Thanks for the wonderful tutorial and tips! Absolutely the best highlight technique video I've seen on here!
Shelly Thanks so much glad it could help!
You just saved my butt before my holiday, you’re a real one ❤
Wow I love how you explain in detail how to do this! you are awesome!
I wish I could leave photo evidence of how good my hair looks bc I followed this video. I am so happy
By far, the best diy ever?❤
Thank you for going straight to the point and not talking 💩
I’m definitely doing my hair . Is getting way 2 expensive!
👏🏻💪🏻👏🏻🙏🏻
Really enjoyed this! Thank you for the tutorial!
You did such a an amazing job!!! It looks almost natural!!!❤
This was an incredible video. I’ve been watching yours primarily, and others, to get a grasp on how to do my own hair and hopefully one day I’ll be good enough to work on my whole family! Trying to be an official blonde!! This was an amazing tutorial, I’ll be doing this soon (after I give my bleached hair a break 😅)
thank you for making this! panicking without my hair dresser and this was one of the clearest tutorials :)
Lina Cole yayaya!!! how did it turn out!?
Brittnee Alexus pretty good!! Also followed your video to do my own tape in extensions and I am happy with the results! You rock!
Literally the best tutorial on youtube. THANK YOU!!!
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!
😊if you know how, is it OK to zigzag the comb through to get small highlights??
Thank you SO much for this! Do you have any tips for if you have a small amount of faint grey just around the temples/under the ears, but want to largely keep the rest of your natural base color and add highlights and lowlights? I would like to do a money piece and a few highlights/lowlights around the front and sides using this tutorial, but not sure what to do about the greys! Thank you so much for any advice! This is an excellent tutorial! :)
“Welcome back to my bathroom!”
Lol love it 😂
LOL thank you!!!!!!!
I'm gonna try this! Thank you!
So well explained! Better than so many of the hair "gurus" on here! Thank you. x
This is the best video on how to do this. Thanks so much! So helpful!
Omg great job. I really think to do my hair by myself because every time I came out disappointed from hairdresser out.
YOU CAN DO IT!
You are excellent at explaining and demonstrating the processes
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you
Thank you for this super easy to follow and implement! Quick question how do I know which volume to use when and the lowlight level? Want to make sure I get it right! Ty 🙏🏼
Subbed. Watching from New Zealand for a while now. Even learnt to cut my own layers thanks to these tutorials. My hairdresser is going back to France so will give this a go.....💚
This is best tutorial I’ve seen! Thanks for sharing!
Bout to foil my hair for the first time, I’ve been watching your videos for the past month. Gonna give this a whirl. I’ll let ya know Thank you for all your content! 💖👩🏻🦳💇🏼♀️
Yes!!! Perfect!!!🩷🩷🩷
I love this explanation. I can’t do it. Lol. Mine turns red allll the time no matter what. You all make it look easy! Lol.
