For people who can't weave fast/haven't done this before, might be smarter to use a 20 volume and leave it to process longer. 40 vol could fry your hair if you leave it on too long.
I'm honestly shocked she not only used 40 on her already-very-light hair, but that she's actually telling people to use 40 at home! I would never use 40 on myself, so dangerous if you don't know *exactly* what you're doing!! (Of course she looks amazing though lol)
My first attempt months ago turned out pretty chunky, but that's because I was impatient. I tried it again last night and the key really is to bleach the teeny tiniest strands of hair and just take your time. It honestly looks amazing, I'm so in love with my hair now!
@@jenniferrobinson1006a root tap is basically using a darker toner for example 6n Redken toner and just tapping it along the root so it’s not a harsh line from root to bleach blonde
I did this today and it turned out perfect! I used 20 volume developer because my natural base is a 6-7. Silvia is using 40 volume because her natural level is very dark. Use whatever volume developer you need for your natural hair level. This is by far the best highlight tutorial on TH-cam. Thank you 😊
Been watching you for years. I now do my own hair like a pro, using store-bought products! Everyone asks who does my hair and can't believe when I say I do! Thanks, Silvia, you are epic. Congrats on your pregnancy :) xoxo
I went to cosmetology school AND worked as an assistant but still felt clueless with color. I ended up just cutting/styling hair and I’ve learned more from your channel than I have in years. I used your tips on my own naturally black hair and I’m on my way to blonde and feel confident now in implementing color into my career. Thanks for sharing and going into detail, your channel has saved me!!
A million thank you’s for this video!! I’m so picky with my hair and I’m 90% unhappy with how stylists have done my hair in the past. $200 for each appointment with not getting exactly what I want has been so frustrating. I can’t wait to try it for myself. I’ve been wanting to do my own hair for years and you and I have the same natural hair color, so this is perfect. Can’t wait to provide an update with how it goes. Thank you so much!! Xo
Mirian Agundiz i occasionally get the color I want (very rare), but it’s never consistent. That’s something I don’t understand. The same stylist should be able to accomplish the same thing every time. Do they just forget what they did last time? Do they not care about doing a good job? it’s so frustrating :(
Honestly you are so amazing, you’re the only hairstylist making videos that help people who do their hair at home, without any judgement. I recently found a hairstylist on TH-cam who was so talented but made really snarky comments about people who do their hair at home and I just ended up unsubbing. I’ve been watching your videos for years and you are so skilled and a genuinely lovely person, keep up the great work 👐🏻
Michaela you’ll be fine, people don’t hassle you too much. It’ll be really good having more education available for people at home. And its the perfect time to start a channel since so many people are still at home because of the pandemic, great way to grow a channel
Everyone is asking about why I didn't tone the babylights and only did a root smudge. Just want to clarify that didnt incafet tone my hair off camera and here is why. When I weave such thin babylights and use 40 vol Redken Flash lift lightner (which is already blue to neutralize some warmth) my babylights rarely have to get toned. However if you want to know what toner I use for my blonde all over, you can check out my root touch up video. Where I show you how to touch and refresh your hair. If I were to tone my babylights thats the toner formula I would use.
I am a designer well versed in colour theory and qualified aromatherapist too, so used to % ratios. I decided to do my research and give this a go in lockdown. I followed your tutorial using Wella blondor followed by the shades EQ 6N, with a root tap but I pulled it through after 10 minutes and washed off at 17 minutes. I am ecstatic with the result, the 6N totally made it, don’t know why I’ve not found you before lockdown! Thank you! The only thing I’d revise personally for me as a newbie t-section highlighter is using a lower developer at the start on side hairline as I am slow getting them in! And the back of crown is really tricky on your own! Thank you again for sharing your videos.
im a graduate from paul mitchell the school, and i barely learned anything in hair school because the teachers at my school never explained anything right, and they were never on the same page. But ever since I been watching your vids ive learned so much, im so happy i found your channel!!!
I am a colorist to my Core! I love that you do your own, as I do having breakage from ( another stylist) once I went to total light blonde, I said never again, I’d already been foiling my own for years-so once again I did my own. I get exactly what I want and prevent any further damage👍😁 thanks for the video, just super cool that you do your own. I feel like you wear your passion!
Thank you so much for this wonderful video! Just before quarentine, I paid $350 to a professional stylist who ended up literally melting 8 inches of my hair off so Im doing my own hair for a fraction of the cost thanks to you 💞🌸💞
I followed exactly what you said, but I did use a different color for the root smudge and my hair turned out the most perfect blonde I’ve been trying to achieve for a decade. It cost me $50 vs. $300 at a salon!!!! God bless you!! Thank you for doing what you do and helping us mommys on a budget!!! ♥️♥️♥️
Thank you, Silvia!! This video LOADED with helpful info, like how often you color and whether it’s the base or the lightened hair. Especially appreciate your placement and formula advice! Your finger is always on the pulse of the most desired haircolors and you share so generously, thank you again! From your videos I now cut and color my own hair getting the unique look I could get from no one else no matter how many hairdressers I went to and no matter what pictures and words I used to explain what I wanted. You’re funny, kind, generous and so talented - love you right back, sweet, beautiful lady!!
Your words are so lovely! I totally agree with you 100%. Every time I change or to-do my hair, I always go to Elle for a little re-cap and she is wonderful and her advice so informative 😊
I tried it. Just did tiny parts and worked well. Will try more foils the next time. Just needed over an hour for 10 foils, haha. Can recommend to check the process in between + I started to clean some parts with a towel until the last parts were lifted as well. Lots of love from Germany
@@liliiakhamzina3458 I could not find the redken lifting formular as well, so I bought Wella Blondor Freelights Powder + 12% Developer cream. How to mix is written on the bottles (I m doing it 1:1,5, which means 1 amount of powder + 1,5 amount of cream). I bought everything on www.hagelshop.de. I m using shades eq 09p gloss afterwards and this combination is the best blonde I ve ever had:)
I just did this and it turned out great! So very happy. I used 40 volume developer with a smidge of Olaplex 3 and no issues. I ended up processing my babylights for about 40 minutes instead of 25 as I am a level 9/10 in my balyage. Just checked every 10 minutes after 25 minutes passed. For the shadowroot, I added in coming gently down with a regular tooth comb to prevent any harsh lines 🤗
I admire her for trying to help and teach us- I just want to say that these girls have a certain humility about them and take for granted the fact that this ability to do this is a gift and a God given talent & calling. They answered the call and have worked to develop the skill but not everyone has this gift. I realized that when I tried to start teaching astrology to beginners. I realized it’s a unique calling and my purpose. I still try to teach it regardless because it matters to me. I just wanted to say this to this content creator because it’s a gift.
Absolutely love this... I've been increasing upset in recent years after my colorist passed away at a young age, as well as the "world event" of 2020 that occured... both incidents have resulted in not having the option to get new highlights in my hair. Recently I've considered learning how to do my own and am confident in my ability to do so, and this was such an excellent guide. Thank you so much for providing this as an option and resource for me! Once I reach a point that I wish to proceed, I will undoubtedly be reviewing this again! 😊❤👍
I did this with 20 volume (my base is a little lighter, between 5/6) and it turned out great. I didn't even have to do the root tap. Just bleach and purple shampoo. Thank you for this tutorial!
Hi! Are you a natural dark blonde, by chance? I'm looking to try this video, but have lighter hair and wonder if/how I should adjust anything. Thanks so much!
SO helpful, I've watched this video 5 times and it's literally the only video that helped me with the baby lights process. Tried it out last night to touchup my 4 month old salon-babylighted hair and turned out great. I have a lot of hair and only did 12 foils so I'm going to do it again next week. 1) The NUMBER ONE most important thing to keep in mind is to keep the sections as THIN as possible. Go thinner than thicker to be safe. 2) This was a painstakingly long process for me, I find it really hard to weave out tiny sections of hair but hopefully I'll get better with practice.
Ciara Pham It was a test run, I just did 6 on each front side. Next time I would do maybe 2-4 in the back if I can reach, but I am planning on going to a salon to get the back done :)
I tried this on licensed in hair myself about 2 years but have not been able to work due to the pandemic and that’s usually how I get my hair done is by someone I work with but I was just getting so bored with my color and needed a guide to even be able to do it on my own head instead of another person I would say this is one of the most helpful videos even for someone who can’t do hair I did it slightly different than her but mine came out so good I was surprised one thing I would say is to not use 40 volume developer at home
Wow! You are just beyond amazing. Thank you for blessing us with your knowledge. I am a licensed hairstylist, I have chosen to no longer do hair anymore and I love what you teach. I will be using your techniques on myself and my gratitude for you is beyond word. God bless you, sweet lady!
I love her for posting videos like this. I'm not a professional but I this on myself at home. I have similar results. Sometimes I'll see a professional for a full head of highlights and spend 3 hrs at the salon maybe every 6 months to a year, but doing these mini touchups helps me keeping my hair looking its best and saves me time and money. Also, professionals are grateful I do it right so it makes their jobs easier as well.
As long as you take such super small slices, everything should end up fine. The hardest thing is the coordination. When I do my hair myleft, my hands have problems how to hold the brush or the foil, then when I found the right position, my arm that holds the foil feels like falling off) so I have to take little breaks to let my arm muscles chill out a little. So as long u do thin sections and take ur time, it should turn out good.
Thank you! I did this today and it turned out great! The key is to look at your own hair colour to see how it is developing, dont take the foils out too early or it will be orange!
Your hair is absolute goals! I just love you :) your gorgeous, and I love how kind you are sharing all your secrets and tips. I went to hairdressing school but it was 20 years ago, I haven`t practised it for years. Thanks to you Sylvia, I am learning again. Thanks lovely.
ellebangs: does her foils in like 10 minutes, root tap in 5 minutes, ends up with gorgeous bright blonde baby lights me: starts with lighter roots than ellebangs, takes over an hour to do 8 foils, ends up with orange cheetah-print roots (AND totally random pink patches, wtf?!) because the foils slipped down & bled through, spends almost two additional hours doing a root melt correction, does a bleach bath on the ends because some of the darker toner dripped down onto them, tones the whole thing with 10p/10t... ends up with something resembling a babylight over bright blonde balayage, definitely nowhere near ellebangs' results but at least not a disaster and no orange hair in sight. total time- 4 hours. moral of the story: i'm giving my colorist allllll of my money when the salons reopen.
That would be the same problem with me. I got a kit with a cap and it turned out pretty good for 1st time. It's easier because I could take my time and rest when needed when pulling hair through the cap.
OMG!!! I'm laughing WITH you not AT you! Sooo funny, so relatable. Seriously I have watched and read MORE ABOUT HAIR COLORING than a student. I'm determined that I will master this but I have a few parting words. "thank God for quarantine" I've had so many great results and some REALLY bad. The latest, bad. Used a 7A to try and do more of a balyage to just have to do this less and OH MAN! It is DARK. I would NEVER use a 6. No no. And my roots are dark but not 7. So yeah, top way too dark and rest honey blonde.
I'm a stylist and I disagree with her when she says the lightener should be runny. If ur doing this to yourself it should be a little thicker so the foil sticks to it so the dont pull down and u end up with bleeders
awesome video ... much appreciated because as a single mom of 2 kids 11/15 yrs old its hard to afford a great hair dresser i 've been binge watching ur videos ur such a pleasant person
A big thank you for this video!! Although I wasn't as graceful as you, I'm super happy with the end result on my first try! Also many thanks for showing how to do the back of the head yourself. I used Loreal Feria Very Platinum and didn't have my usual brassiness issue.
I would love if, at the end of the video, you insert a before/after picture, side by side, so it's possible to compare and fully embrace the end result. Thank you for your videos!
So glad I found this video again. My quarantine hombre...quarantombre, if you will...is getting on my nerves and stylists are just bombarded since the reopening here in GA. Thank you so much for your informative and easy to follow tutorials!
I finally worked up the courage to try this after watching numerous times to make sure Id get it right.. thank you for posting the tutorial, I would have never had the guts to try this without it!! It was/ is very cool of you to share these tutorials with us💕 💕 I will continue to follow and share with others THANK YOU!🙏🏻
You inspire me and give me the confidence I need to tackle the things that make me second guess myself when I'm behind the chair. Thank you for being such a great mentor to your fans. xo
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!! I can do my roots now! Lol For the next video can you show how you do both the baby lights and the 6NA? Thank you so much Silvia! This video was so helpful!!!
Awesome video, you do it so effortlessly! I would love if you could do a video on how to best go lighter/blonder when you are going grey. I'm around 70% grey and have been colouring my hair dark brown for so many years, I started going grey at around 20 :'( I'm so sick of the dark and want to go lighter but I don't know what the best way to do this would be!
I am in no way a professional, but I have been blonde for 4 years now from level 5-6 brunette. I just wanted to say that color remover is going to be your best friend. The more layers of the old color you can remove - the better shape your hair will be in. At least that worked tremendously well for me. I feel that removing as much color as possible before going w/ highlights really saved the integrity of my hair. I also invested in pH hair bonding products/treatments (Olaplex, Redken Bonder, etc) and I simply adore the Joico K-Pak line. I will tell you going blonde has been one of the best decisions I have ever made! The blonde just helps so much to distract from gray coming in between colorings. I chose to do highlights and keep adding more in until I was mostly blonde all over. I then just chose the best all-over blonde shade. I prefer to do the all over blonding and then just add lowlights when and as necessary. Hope this helps you in some way!
MIA Oh no that sounds like such a hassle! I wonder if I can get away with gradually just dying my roots with a semi permanent until enough of it grows out to have an overall lighter look? Do you think there is such a way to cover the greys with a lighter colour without affecting the brown? I guess to kind of get a gradual highlighted effect without having to bleach the hair that is naturally growing out darker? Maybe it's just wishful thinking!
Lori Brainard Thanks so much for the info!! That sounds like something I could definitely try out. Can I ask, when you went to an all over blonde, did you do that yourself or at the salon? I think part of what is holding me back is the idea of having to go to the salon every few weeks. I would love the idea of having a pro get me to a lighter shade and then maintaining it myself but I don't know if that is a realistic goal?
@@NforNelly I would suggest you go to a professional. Starting with a dark color over predominantly grey hair is going to need to go through a big process. If you want you hair to continue to be healthy, a professional stylist will know how to best tackle that. Do your research and fund a stylist that is good with grey transitioning. Good luck!
N for Nelly I’m a level 3 and use a 20-30v with a level 6 color and bring my L3 salt/pepper roots to an L 6 this way. You’re gonna have to use a permanent color & one with either “N” or “NN” in the formula N= “natural”. This is what helps cover stubborn gray the best. Over time the color from covering gray Will build up and that’s why and you will either need to use a color remover or a bleach/Leitner to bump you down again… Yes it’s not going to be low maintenance but it will be beautiful! As for toners, it may gloss over gray temporarily but they’ll be back in short order. Not worth it. My hairdresser has been highlighting it every 2 to 3 months in between my diy root touch ups and and now that we’re quarantining I’m going to follow what Lori suggested in this thread & do an all over lightener (will probl take me 2-3 sessions) on roots, then paint in some low lights. That’s the best way to blend gray /lighten roots to be more blended with my pre lightener blonde mid-ends. & it’s also the path of least resistance because I’m not fussing with foil and stuff I have way too thick/curly/massive hair for any of that DIY action!! LOL
You are an excellent teacher! Your videos are easy to follow and the results I've had are fabulous. I wish I could include a pic because my babylights turned out beautifully! Thank you for taking the time to put these videos together!
Just a huge thank you. I did my root color and highlights on myself as a stylist I never have anyone to do my highlights bcus everyone is so busy. I did do my root color and then went through and weaved it I did do a lil tease on the weaved sections then I toned with redken. My hair looks the best it has in so long. Thank you so so so much 🙌 ps ur beautiful and congrats on ur baby 🍼 I also did a curtain bang wish I could post a pic on here. Thank u again.
You are truly wonderful as I have never watched a video where someone has made it so easy showing me how to do my highlights. I can not begin to thank you enough. Thank you one million times!
Wow just wow, you done so good. I would have never thought to take that little of hair and do it that way, no wonder I always end up with more chunks of light lol. Looks great x
That’s what I have. I always start with my base single process color then a few weeks later go in with the highlights or.... some said attempt at highlights LOL
I just wanted to encourage you that you can! Years ago my person moved away but before she left she showed me exactly what product she was using for my hair color. From that day I began to buy these products and apply myself. Now, years later I still do myself and because of my color and process can apply in under 10 minutes. It’s a bit tedious but I put on something on YT that I can listen to for entertainment - the $$ saving is phenomenal and I love that I can control my hair and experiment (carefully) with the color. I hope you’re able to give it a try! Good luck!
Idk why "getting it done.. would make you more of a girl." it doesn't, either way is fine; but girl I promise you can do it, it just takes patience and mirrors and precision, I'm probably doing this teqnique soon and will lyk how it goes
Jose Martinez not sure I understand your comment what makes me pathetic about wanting to be able to colour my own hair? And besides I can’t at the moment no hairdressers are open or for the foreseeable
After growing out and then cutting my side layers I was left with my natural hair color😲🤮. I used your technique and proper tools skinny tip comb, foils ect. and love it!!! Thank you!!!
your baby lights are my normal size foils haha. my baby lights are like a few strands back to back. amazing job on your own hair.. I do my baby light on myself with the cap because my hair is short. your a great colourist being able to foil your own head.
Hi Sylvia 🙂 Just wondering if you can recommend a toner to root tap with that us non hairdressers have access to? Whilst I do have my hair done by a hairdresser - I have recently been enjoying doing my own (balayage). I suffer from dermatillomania & as weird as it sounds - highlighting my hair has been helpful in reducing picking. It is very tactile & keeps my hands busy as well as my mind focused on trying not to stuff it up 😂 I know I’m gonna feel stupid as soon as I hit post on this comment... but I thought it was important to share, that your videos don’t just help those who are on a tight budget. Thanks 💕
Nicole Harris you should learn how to do eyelash extensions! That's what I do for work, and as a perfectionist I find it super satisfying. The tedious detail might be really good for you, too! Even if you just do it on a couple friends
Nicole Harris I’m in Toronto and just had to do an eyelash extension technician certification. I happen to be a makeup artist, but that wasn’t necessary. Here you don’t need to be an esthetician to get certified
I paid for a balayage and the lady did not blend it well at all and there was a horrible line in areas around 3-4 inches from the top of my head. I tried this technique but used a toner after bleaching and it turned out sooo good. Thank you so much for this tutorial! I did a better job on my hair than the person I paid 150$ to do it originally!! Beyond ecstatic with the results.
Do you have a video where you explain Redfin color, toners, and glazes? I would love to use red ken color but I cannot fully understand their formulas, combos, and dilutions as well as their colors hues. I love the videos you have on basic color theory but do you have one custom fit for how it applies to the red ken color line since it seems so different than all other color lines. I also hear you can add glaze to the toners with small adjustments. I also hear they have an oleplex like ingredient that can be added to their formulas. This would be a great video to watch
Caryn Gates Redkin is so easy they’d probably come to you if you have a salon and yes the ole pled is a protein bonder product to open cuticle add strength and shine. It feels amazing. Good luck great video !!!
Rainbo I did go to Cosmo school. Thanks though! I continued on to get a masters degree so I’m not in a Solon anymore and never had the privilege to work with Redken... thanks for you concern though!!!

As a hair stylist I applaud her on her effort. The sectioning is way better than I have seen most at home highlights done in. She even used a T sectioning which is basically those two foils she placed at her crown. The only thing I’d recommend is DO NOT go in with a 40 volume developer. Even on pitch black hair I use 25 vol at the most. You just leave it on a lil longer because bleach all lightens up to 7,8,or9 levels depending on the brand. The volume of developer just determines how fast the bleach will blast the cuticle and remove pigment. I’d rather stay with a ten volume and go slow because you risk over processing and breakage when using high volume developer, ESP when doing ur own head because you’ll probably not be so fast.
Yes i have seen even 5% used, it still works. It should be mentioned that all bleaches can change the texture of the hair, for those on a long hair mission bleach can be a major impediment, and those with bleach and length are often extensions
I’ve been waiting so long for this video!!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ I’ve started “babylighting” myself but love pointers from you. I’ve been doing this with a 10 volume developer to keep my hair as healthy as possible.
Dana go to a salon. I promise there’s no way to do it healthy by yourself at home. You can see how fried her hair is in the intro lol TRUST ME this is the worst thing I’ve ever seen on TH-cam omg 🤦🏽♀️ her foils are all over the place and she’s over lapping with bleach which may look ok now but it’s going to cause so much breakage in the future.
@Brianna Cintron Brianna, I do go to a salon. I don’t think Silvia’s hair looks fried. I’m confused as to why you watch and comment on her videos if you think she is so bad? Seems a bit troll-ish to me. Have a great day!

Your so beautiful! I love that blonde tone u have always like a soft blonde .. question what lipgloss or lipstick do u use ! Looks nice on u .. find it hard to find neutrals
Since I found your video I saved a lot of money 😅 my local hairdresser ruined my hair twice and I just could not trust any hairdresser since then. 😣 Now I can do my hair by myself! Thank you ☺️
+S C i only used the 6N on the roots. I also used 40 vol in the babylights. Babylights loft really well and most of the time don’t need to be toned. Or at least for me.
Asziya I usually use vol 40 for many yrs now w no problems. I add a bit of coconut oil or olive oil to the mix. I leave the vol 35 for 45 min on dark virgin roots, or on already dye roots for about the same. Never put vol 40 on the very lighten ends or color treated.
Lisa C. Hairdresser here, babylights are a great option! Also look for Liz Haven on instagram she has a “Strandlights” technique that are perfect for low maintenance grey hair!

You had previously posted your root touch up formula. I cannot find it was it a 6nn and a 7?
For people who can't weave fast/haven't done this before, might be smarter to use a 20 volume and leave it to process longer. 40 vol could fry your hair if you leave it on too long.
I'm honestly shocked she not only used 40 on her already-very-light hair, but that she's actually telling people to use 40 at home! I would never use 40 on myself, so dangerous if you don't know *exactly* what you're doing!! (Of course she looks amazing though lol)
That’s what I was really scared of because I have a loooot of hair and a lot of growth

@@rebeccagaribay2002 I used 20 vol because my natural hair is a lot lighter/finer than hers.
Where did you get the Red Ken products ?

A million thank you’s for this video!! I’m so picky with my hair and I’m 90% unhappy with how stylists have done my hair in the past. $200 for each appointment with not getting exactly what I want has been so frustrating. I can’t wait to try it for myself. I’ve been wanting to do my own hair for years and you and I have the same natural hair color, so this is perfect. Can’t wait to provide an update with how it goes. Thank you so much!! Xo
What’s the level of your natural hair color ?
Me too I never get the color I want
Sallyy not sure... Just looking at her natural roots, mine appear to be the same.
Mirian Agundiz i occasionally get the color I want (very rare), but it’s never consistent. That’s something I don’t understand. The same stylist should be able to accomplish the same thing every time. Do they just forget what they did last time? Do they not care about doing a good job? it’s so frustrating :(
Anna Peralez it does happen to me. The color just faiths away really fast
“Even an inexperienced person could attempt to do this” ... y’all, quarantine me is about to become a hairdresser
In lockdown UK & my grey roots are growing fast! Wish i could try this myself but wudnt hav a clue where to start even color matching!! 🙄🤨

Same sis! Lol
SAME. Oh gah I'm scared. So Clara.... Did you try it?! Did it work?!
Honestly you are so amazing, you’re the only hairstylist making videos that help people who do their hair at home, without any judgement. I recently found a hairstylist on TH-cam who was so talented but made really snarky comments about people who do their hair at home and I just ended up unsubbing. I’ve been watching your videos for years and you are so skilled and a genuinely lovely person, keep up the great work 👐🏻
Eu também ensino Monique
I’ve thought about making more videos education based for people at home not exactly like hers but don’t know if I can handle mean people lol
Sylvia I cannot find the Redken, where do you suggest getting it from?
If we cannot buy these products then do a video using the products that we as consumers can buy!
What color is your base.
Do my hair😂😂😂
Why are you showing us techniques with products we can not buy? I’m confused.
Just before quarentine, I paid $350 to a professional stylist who ended up literally melting 8 inches of my hair off so Im doing my own hair for a fraction of the cost thanks to you 💞🌸💞
I've literally been watching you for years and years, you've taught me so much in these 5-6 years or more!
Easy DIY babylights- beautiful and perfect
Me: (orange patchy hair) nailed it!
DeeGeeDoll you tried it?
#metoooooo
DeeGeeDoll how of your not satisfied and want yo re do n toning?
That orange made go crazy so i bleached twice 1st bleach with 30 and the second with 20 and fried the ends and didn’t even get it to level 8
toner is a must!
tried this and now I look like one of Joe exotics tigers
Same, did this last year..then i panicked and went dark brown. 🤦♀️
I find it easier with the rubber cap. Works fine
Same sis, same

Love that 😭😂
This is the best your hair has ever looked IMO. Great tutorial, I’ve tried it a few times now and it turned out great. Thank you!
Tina, where did you buy root formula?:) I can’t find anything online
What color would you recommend for a shadow root I can’t find the redken she used?
I admire her for trying to help and teach us- I just want to say that these girls have a certain humility about them and take for granted the fact that this ability to do this is a gift and a God given talent & calling. They answered the call and have worked to develop the skill but not everyone has this gift. I realized that when I tried to start teaching astrology to beginners. I realized it’s a unique calling and my purpose. I still try to teach it regardless because it matters to me.
I just wanted to say this to this content creator because it’s a gift.
I followed this tutorial about a month into quarantine (back in April) and it worked beautifully! Thanks so much ❤️

Hi Lydia! Would you mind sharing where you got the Redken Shades EQ gloss/toner?
@@JennaKemp21 I think light brown is my natural hair color description. I would do a strand test, maybe you need a 15 volume.
I've used your method a few times now and honestly it comes out great every time. You are the baby lights Queen!
Hello Sherri, can you tell me please have you used also Redken 06N ? Moroccan Sand seems to be a dark colour…
@@lllannarolll I actually use the lightest blonde L’Oréal offers and then go over it with a purple conditioner, comes out lovely🙂
2) This was a painstakingly long process for me, I find it really hard to weave out tiny sections of hair but hopefully I'll get better with practice.
how many sections did you do for the back?
Ciara Pham It was a test run, I just did 6 on each front side. Next time I would do maybe 2-4 in the back if I can reach, but I am planning on going to a salon to get the back done :)
I tried this, only had box die but used this technique and I’m super happy. Thankyou!!
You make it look easy, but I’m sure it’s not.
Also, professionals are grateful I do it right so it makes their jobs easier as well.
it is her work so it LOOK effortless ... but give it a try ...i ruined my bangs O_o
April Dunn i have try It - It was a Desaster! My Stylist is a pro - Iam not 🙈
As long as you take such super small slices, everything should end up fine.
Well it’s easy cause she’s a hair stylist lol
Elle you have been my savior for some years now and here again I'm done spending 200 . You are the best girl !! Bless your heart thank you!!
Thanks lovely.
omg she makes it look so easy!! I really wanna try this but don’t wanna mess up my hair 😭
ellebangs: does her foils in like 10 minutes, root tap in 5 minutes, ends up with gorgeous bright blonde baby lights
me: starts with lighter roots than ellebangs, takes over an hour to do 8 foils, ends up with orange cheetah-print roots (AND totally random pink patches, wtf?!) because the foils slipped down & bled through, spends almost two additional hours doing a root melt correction, does a bleach bath on the ends because some of the darker toner dripped down onto them, tones the whole thing with 10p/10t... ends up with something resembling a babylight over bright blonde balayage, definitely nowhere near ellebangs' results but at least not a disaster and no orange hair in sight. total time- 4 hours.
moral of the story: i'm giving my colorist allllll of my money when the salons reopen.
That would be the same problem with me. I got a kit with a cap and it turned out pretty good for 1st time. It's easier because I could take my time and rest when needed when pulling hair through the cap.
tmsouth1 I’d love to use a cap But my hair is so thick it will never get through those small holes. Do they make caps with extra large holes? LOL
This was the best hair color I have done to myself. Thank you, I love it, I actually can't wait for It to grow out more just so I can add more color.

For the next video can you show how you do both the baby lights and the 6NA? Thank you so much Silvia! This video was so helpful!!!
Great job, I like the fact that you get to the point in demonstrating the process, I can tell you are a true professional. Thank you
Its such a pleasure to watch a beautiful, smart, skillful master and humble worker!
LOL
Thank you so much for your videos! I just finished doing mine with a few extra foils and LOVE how it came out! 😘
You are an excellent teacher! Your videos are easy to follow and the results I've had are fabulous. I wish I could include a pic because my babylights turned out beautifully! Thank you for taking the time to put these videos together!

God this would save me a fortune if I could do my own hair
Be a girl and go get it done professionally don’t be pathetic !!!
Jose Martinez not everyone has thousands of dollars to spend on their hair every month
You have the best and safest going and keeping blonde channel ! Thankyou!
your baby lights are my normal size foils haha. my baby lights are like a few strands back to back. amazing job on your own hair.. I do my baby light on myself with the cap because my hair is short. your a great colourist being able to foil your own head.
She makes it look so easy
Hi Sylvia 🙂
Just wondering if you can recommend a toner to root tap with that us non hairdressers have access to?
Whilst I do have my hair done by a hairdresser - I have recently been enjoying doing my own (balayage).
I suffer from dermatillomania & as weird as it sounds - highlighting my hair has been helpful in reducing picking. It is very tactile & keeps my hands busy as well as my mind focused on trying not to stuff it up 😂
I know I’m gonna feel stupid as soon as I hit post on this comment... but I thought it was important to share, that your videos don’t just help those who are on a tight budget.
Thanks 💕
Nicole Harris you should learn how to do eyelash extensions! That's what I do for work, and as a perfectionist I find it super satisfying. The tedious detail might be really good for you, too! Even if you just do it on a couple friends
Christie M that’s not a bad idea! Do you need to be a beautician to be a lash technician? Or can you do a separate course?
Christie M thanks for the suggestion 🙂
Nicole Harris amazon has almost everything! Redken shades eq I easy to tap root. Or Sally’s has stuff
Nicole Harris I’m in Toronto and just had to do an eyelash extension technician certification. I happen to be a makeup artist, but that wasn’t necessary. Here you don’t need to be an esthetician to get certified
Thanks for the info. I'm about to try it. I'm an esthetician and I know a bit about color too. Never worked with bleach on my own hair but here we go!
Pls SILVIA BE SO NICE !!!
Caryn Gates Redkin is so easy they’d probably come to you if you have a salon and yes the ole pled is a protein bonder product to open cuticle add strength and shine. It feels amazing. Good luck great video !!!
Yeah. It's called Cosmetology School..
Rainbo I did go to Cosmo school. Thanks though! I continued on to get a masters degree so I’m not in a Solon anymore and never had the privilege to work with Redken... thanks for you concern though!!!

Nothing like the photo. I use a heavy weave, so it's not "baby" lights, and it's a definite warm tone. That even a toner wont take too.

Best tutorial ever! I’ve highlighted my own hair several times now thanks to her video!!❤

Professional products on Amazon are sold from third party sellers and are either watered down, expired or not even the real product inside.
well look it up first its sold by the company on amazon!
@@juliealbertroussel5170 yup, I have never had probs but I only buy when Amazon is the seller. You don't want junkie Sally Beauty Supply, the results will be bad. Also why should she subject her hair to that...
@@yllahartman331 exactly lots of stuff I buy too people dont believe me lol Like moroccanoil the exact company sell it on amazon, we can buy it on their site too and on sephora yet beauty stylist swears its impossible 😂
You’re so talented! Thanks for sharing !
I’m in Cosmetology school. I need to do this. I highlighted my hair myself splitting back in two sections, using the back combing method. It looks great. I did put in a few highlights on top with a face frame. But need more highlights on top and crown area. Going to try! Great video!
Honestly the best tutorial for babylights ever!!!! Thank you !!!
Sivia please do easy up dos that are your style kinda messy modern relaxed looks thanks so much for this video my hair also thanks you!! Xx
Hi Hun, Silvia already has a video up showing exactly this
i love the techniaue and results!!
What do you think about using coconut oil before coloring or bleaching? Thanks
Your so beautiful! I love that blonde tone u have always like a soft blonde .. question what lipgloss or lipstick do u use ! Looks nice on u .. find it hard to find neutrals
Hairstylist here, I think you did a great job on that tutorial! Gorgeous lived in color. Love it! Thanks
Since I found your video I saved a lot of money 😅 my local hairdresser ruined my hair twice and I just could not trust any hairdresser since then. 😣 Now I can do my hair by myself! Thank you ☺️
So that level 6 root smudge ended up toning your new babylights? How did they come out so bright with a level 6 over them?
S C yes oh my gosh how did the new baby lights get toned 🤔🤔🤔
+S C i only used the 6N on the roots.
I also used 40 vol in the babylights. Babylights loft really well and most of the time don’t need to be toned. Or at least for me.
ellebangs oh ok, thank you. 😊
@@Ellebangs wow in germany they are scared to use 40 vol on the hair. how long did you let it in your hair?
Asziya
I usually use vol 40 for many yrs now w no problems. I add a bit of coconut oil or olive oil to the mix. I leave the vol 35 for 45 min on dark virgin roots, or on already dye roots for about the same. Never put vol 40 on the very lighten ends or color treated.
Que tono de tinte usaste ? En la base y en la parte de abajo ??? Por favor
Any ideas for covering gray with highlights? Would love a video on that.
Me too!! :)
Lisa C. Hairdresser here, babylights are a great option! Also look for Liz Haven on instagram she has a “Strandlights” technique that are perfect for low maintenance grey hair!
MIA you should dm her! She does take in new clients
Silvia I've been following for a long time now, even though I couldn't be able to do it with foils , I use the rubber cap for my security . Totally fredom doing my hair by myself . Thank you for sharing and showing us the process . 🇧🇷

Absolutely beautiful, Sylvia!! You did a great job!! ❤
My goodness you make that look so easy 🤩 I really want to attempt this! Thanks for making these types of videos Silvia, they are so helpful! 💜
Holy freaking moly, the results are so beautiful!!! 😍 This might be my favorite look of all on you and I appreciate how well you explained everything. Thank you so much for this!
Hi Jamie, where did you find the supplies?
I watched a few hours of your hair tutorials and information and wanted to say thank you! I did my own hair for the very first time and it looks awesome! I seriously like it just as good if not better than going to the salon. I just moved to a new area and so I was having a hard time finding a new stylist after moving out of state.
Gurl if i didnt struggle with carpel tunnel i would be so down to do my own hair. Ur so good at what you do. Im learning so much! Thanks!!
Sure there will be a robot trying to take this job, tricky as every head and strand is different :)
