FTR: I'm just a girl standing in front of a mirror, doing my own hightlights!
Please note, as I mention in the video, 40 developer is high but this is what I used because it's all I had. I also mention that since this is a video on full highlights, not just roots, I will include what's already been bleached; this is why I said I would only do one more foil, as not to over process all of my hair. I know you professionals are "cringing" but if you actually listen, you can spare yourself the stress. If you're looking for just roots, here's my very first video: th-cam.com/video/FxCmMNqQ04w/w-d-xo.html
I know this is an older video but I did have a question. If you're doing highlights all over your head then obviously that is going to take quite a bit of time. If you leave the bleach on for 6 to 8 minutes as you said then by the time you get done with your whole head you will be well past the six to eight minutes for the foils where you started. How do you account for that? Or do you take the foils out immediately after you finish that final foil?
Heather Scharding if you use a spray bottle of water on the foils that are done it will deactivate them. And btw 40 is fine, I’m a professional and I personally like a hi lift
Oh and you don’t need to go over what is already blonde. It will eventually mush and fall off. Beauty School teacher says” once it bleached once it’s blonde once it’s bleached 2ce it’s gone.” Great job for anyone licensed or not! Love it
You use a lower volume developer once you begin...so it varies on the level of your hair to begin with and amount of lift you're looking for. As an example 20 vol once you begin and then bump it up to 30 or 40 as you get closer to the end. You could also just use 20 vol all over. Just put more bleach on (but watch out for foils being too heavy), let process and once it stops, pop yourself under the dryer. A lot less damaging
Impressive! Luv ur videos!!
I'm 27 and have been cutting and coloring my hair since I was 21 because I was sick of "licensed professionals who went to school for this" always thinking they knew better and disregarding what I would tell them.
Kudos for giving responsible advice and helpful tips! I love when people feel empowered to learn how to do things for themselves instead of being at the mercy of others. Plus, it's fun!
Not all hairstylist are like that ( the old school ones are) but I understand because I'm a hairstylist that does his own hair rotfl
Or they make fun of you behind your back. I had one hair dresser post a pic of my hair and say don’t do it yourself or you’ll end up with this. Like I paid you 160$ for you to slam me online. I have a male hairdresser now and I love him
I completely agree with you. Every hairstylist has been like this with me, Even the young ones. I show what I want (Which I’ve been told would of been incredibly easy to get) and then...... they fuck my hair. This has happened on way more than one occasion, Cos I think “maybe this time it will be different” it never is. The last it happened I went back to discuss my hair and the girl who did it was smirking. She had put dark brown on my roots (looked like it had been thrown on) and a tiny bit at the top that she put highlights on my light brown natural virgin root. Would of been lovely if she had done this everywhere but no. When she was doing it I tried to trust she knew what she was doing as according to Regis she was their “top colourist and stylist” I told her the dark root she had put on was too patchy and she told me it would be fine. Also why put dark brown on my medium brown 2 inch Virgin hair root to down over my platinum blonde hair? So yeah I’m currently watching this so I can fix my own hair as I trust no one but myself at this point
Cameron R good for you! I’m just learning in my 40s but man whatever happened to the hair styling industry??? They don’t listen, do a slop crap job, treat you like a low life peon while charging you a fortune to damage your damn hair. Fuggitaboutit!
Mimi Ramone Exactly!!
So funny reading.. Trained stylists, desperately trying to validate their profession by criticizing this tutorial. Thank you for showing us how EASY this is. I've never had my hair done for less that $300, just for a trim and highlights. And honestly every time in the past that I let a "professional" do my hair it was a living nightmare. $300 was the least off my losses. I started cutting my own hair, last year and it comes out exactly how I want. Easy. Love doing it. Terrified to go back to a stylist, roots have grown to my ears. Im desperately searching for highlight tutorials. Already have the products. Thank you for your time and transparency. I'm ready.
You go! Remember, no one knows your hair like you do. Only bleach the dark part, not what's already blonde. I did it just for the video since I had so many requests for full highlights after a video I did on root touch up. Good luck!
I hear ya ray ... I too have spent serious money at local FAMOUS SALONS and wound up with orange hair and broken off falling out hair ... had to cut my mid back length hair into a Jennifer Lawrence pixie and wait for it to grow back ! Mine is coming in pure silver in streaks and what i'd really like to do is stop coloring all together but i have OCD and hate grow out ... i want to find my Natural silver streaks and lighten the dyed portion of the strand so there isn't a demarcation line .... when i let the roots grow in it gives the appearance of very thin and thinning hair because of the lack of color , plus it just looks unkept ... funky roots and chipped nail polish looks so freaking trashy and unkept i hate that .... THANK YOU LOU .... i think i will have my hubby watch this so he can help me with the back .... now i just gotta pick the correct lightener and/ or toner for the color i want ... thank you
I buy olaplex 1,2,3 on ebay
Love this tutorial, and remember people are gonna hate what others do right, I'm done paying $200, $300 for highlights, I'm ready to do it myself, you go girl, great video and keep it up, I have a question, what shampoo & conditioner you recommend after doing highlighting, thank YOU😘
I have my cosmetology license and I don't even TRUST stylists to touch my hair. Too many times of them messing my hair up and never getting what I'm hoping for. Plus, it's a lot cheaper to do my own anyways. I never got my hair colored in a salon because I know how much it costs. Always colored my hair, it's fun. Been cutting my own hair for 6 years now and been licensed for 5 years. What she's doing in this video is what they do in the salon anyhow, 40 vol lifts the hair 4 levels 20 vol is best to use if you need to lift 2 levels. Except starting on the bottom makes life a whole lot easier and thats how we were taught in beauty school. Just saying 😉 Definitely keep an eye on your hair while using lightener!
Just used your method, so glad i did. Came out pretty good. Salon couldn't get it the way i wanted. So i did it myself.
salon never gets it how i want
Same here! I might want to try this soon.
I have been a hairstylist for 17+ years and still cannot find a way to take my own head off and do it myself!! I found myself watching your video after multiple trips to various salons and friend’s kitchen to have my hair done only to have it end in failure and empty pockets. I decided to see how other women have done it themselves and BOOM.... your video is amazing! I will NEVER have someone at an overly expensive highly recommended salon touch my head again! Thank you 🙏 you are awesome!
I was a hairstylist before I had my kids and I can't tell you how many times I wished I could take my head off! I thought I was the only one who said that 😂
@@Kelraysmelsa 😂😂 glad I’m not the only crazy one out here!! 💇🏻♀️
“I’ve had questions on how to do the backside of your hair and that’s a super tough one because yanno, I don’t know.” Hahah you’re great
Followed your video step by step and did my own hair a few weeks ago. I still can't believe how awesome it came out. Was really nervous the first time and took my time, but it was so easy. Saved me $90 this one time and I still have everything to color my hair a few more times. Love love love it. Thank you!
Thank you for giving me the encouragement that I needed to finally get the highlights that I’ve been wanting so badly. I’m terrified of salons and can’t justify spending $200-300 on my hair every 3 months. Not only is that insane, it’s a 1,000 bucks per year just for highlights!! Then add in cuts and all the bullshit they talk you into buying to line their pockets. No thanks!
Thank you, Lou, for a great video. You made it look so easy and not scary.
I've watched million highlighting videos but this is by far the best one out there! Your process is so DIY!
I just have one Question ? Why are stylist even watching this??? I thought this was a DIY for NON-Professionals !!! Also she said In the video like 5 times she was only doing the entire strand to show people how to do more than just a root touch up... SMH we should Empower each other not bring each other down...
Sarah Roberts 👍🏼
Especially when the stylist charges an arm and a leg to do it for their clients 😅
Stylist watching a fellow stylist do hair is comparable to a mechanic watching another mechanic work on a car.
1 of 2 things WILL happen:
1. Old “war” (salon or beauty school ) stories are told that are fun to compare & laugh at.
OR
2. CRITICISM or CORRECTIONs
Why? Because everyone thinks their way is the only way, when we can all learn from one another
@@dbedazzling1as a professional, i agree it's expensive, but you have no idea how much it cost to rent a building.
@@KandidWarrioroftheAgesid shit on her if i saw her using 40 VOLUME on a stage 6-7 level. so imma hate on this. plus, this is why we charge so much bc people are airheads
It turned out pretty good! Not a bad way to do it. I’d just like to mention a few pointers.... 1- Never go past the foil edge. 2- Don’t put 40 Vol on already lightened ends, that’s how hair fries off. 3- I like to use tiny clips to hold the foil down so I can use both hands. 4- if you want two or even three tones in your hair you can swap out colors either in between the foils or in the foils. So the bleach in the foil and a darker color outside of the foil. Or every other one natural.
Not everyone can afford to go get their hair done. So at home isn’t always bad. But always be careful and cautious, especially with bleach.
You are adorable and funny and real! You cracked me up when you talked about the highlighting in the back of your head and just said, "I don't know." It's the way you said it. You are funny and give great instructions.
This is exactly how my hair stylists does it!! Thank you SO MUCH! I’m a broke nursing student who loves blonde hair but can’t afford to get my roots done but every blue moon!
As a cosmetologist, i wouldn’t pull the bleach all the way through to the ends because that can unnecessarily damage your already blonde hair. And foiling from the bottom up helps keep everything clean and organized so you don’t have to flip your foils, causing slippage and bleed marks. I think this tutorial is awesome! And i absolutely realize not everyone can afford to get their hair done so this is a great alternative 😊 do you use toner?
You're awesome. Thank you for the tips. I'm a mom with 5 kids, and I can't always afford to get my hair done, but I like to feel pretty too.
Melissa Bryan omg this is cringe! I’m licensed & am not doing hair this moment..but this gal just literally is recommending ppl breaking & hydrolyzing their hair. Eek!
Summer Time why don’t you give us a better tutorial. Please
Melissa Bryan ..I agree ...do not run it down the hair. She needs olaplex big time too. Lord have mercy. The ends are fuzz.
I love you for being so kind this actually made me so happy. So many people criticize and do not take into account that people just can’t afford to do this at a salon and it’s so fun to do something different with your hair and feel pretty. Such kind feedback ❤️
Thank you for this! And I sincerely mean that. There has never been a more in-depth tutorial on this entire process from things you need to comb style and even clothing appropriate info. This is freggin awesome. You make it look so easy and this video is very informative. I so much appreciate this video!
I have tried to watch so many videos about diy highlights and yours is the 1st one I have watch all the way to the end thanks for easy to follow instructions and no being completely boring and for not giving unnecessary info and making it more complicated than it has to be
I just followed your video and it turned out fabulous! Took me less than an hour including the shower! Don't know how to attach a photo or I would. Last time I paid 170 bucks ! You are amazing! Do more videos! This cost me 11 bucks........
That ' Skip to my Lou' children's song just have been a hopscotch or skipping song for children ( probably those of us over 45 tbh) lol on both sides of the Atlantic then! I vividly remember skipping with my infants school friends in the school playground in the early 70' s & see all sing that & the more sinister ' Ring a ring of roses' ! Lol..😊
Hello Lou I just wanted to tell you this is the best video I've ever seen as far as instructions go. I'm a 53 year old woman I've been doing my own bleaching highlighting frosting for about 20 years I just started doing extensions because at my age I'm losing my hair but I have never gotten the hang of the comb in the foil and pulling it down you explained it so perfectly thank you I love you I am waiting right now I wait usually 50 minutes with my hair and then I'm going to tone it I just started toning so this is a new thing for me also but I just want to say that I have a full head of foils and they look right I will take a picture and send it to you later thank you so much for your TH-cam video. And I apologize for all those run-on sentences of talk texting.
Been doing my own hair, cut and highlighting for over 20 years. I never liked the hairstylists' work; always had to touch it up and was angry I had paid so much. So, I decided to do my own. Since both my sisters were hairstylists (didn't live near me),they told me how to do it, plus I had watched hairstylists do it as well.
Anyway, the answer for doing the back of your hair is a mirror on an extension arm (at Ikea) mounted on the opposite wall from the mirror over your sink. Then get a kitchen stool and sit on the stool with your back to the sink. Now you are in the perfect position to see the entire back of your head. I also place another kitchen stool to my right and put my bleach bowl, comb and foils on it. Another handy thing is to buy a smock like those worn in hair salons. It great for protecting your clothes. And you can use an old shower curtain to protect the floor.
Also, if you run out of foils, just grab your kitchen aluminum foil and fold and tear or cut it with scizzors and viola! you have what you need.
Since my hair is naturally dark and I lift it very light, I use 40 vol developer. I have it on my hair for about 45 mins. The secret to not overly damaging your hair is to MOISTURIZE afterwards! And also I only highlight every 4 months, not 6-8 weeks like they tell you to do. I have also found the best deep conditioner is coconut oil. Put it on your hair, let it set for 10-20mins then shampoo out but try to shampoo mostly the scalp and just rinse it through the ends. Then put your regular conditioner on and rinse out. That way the regular conditioner will close the cuticle of the hair shaft up after you applied the coconut oil and it will seal the moisture in. Good luck!

I began doing my own hair 12 years ago for all your reasons, also I just did not like the salon environment, people talking about their lives over my head. I constantly get compliments from strangers on my hair. I think more woman should empower themselves by maintaining their own hair.
Thanks for your comments. Sounds like some great ideas. Although I’m a little nervous about using coconut oil. Seems like it will be hard to keep your hair from being greasy. How much do you use? My hair is shoulderlength so I’m wondering how much I should use.
Thanks for sharing your undoubted expertise..
Great advice! Thank you!!
I've been doing my own high lightening for years. I use a cap and use 30 developer with my powder bleach. I like it better because I can control where I want the highlights and watch to the see the pale blond stage I need for high lightening. My hair dresser says I do a great job. People comment how great my hair looks and ask where I get it done! Their jaws drop when I say I do it myself.
As for doing the back - I feel with my left hand for a pre-poked hole and then pull out with crochet hook. I always check in a mirror before I put mixture on to make sure no gaps!
Love this video. Not everyone can afford to go to the salon and pay the huge cost of highlighting. This is a true blessing for those of us. Also remember practice makes perfect...even the pros had to practice. 😉 So don't get discouraged. These you-tube videos have helped a lot with cutting my own hair & coloring. I think a huge key is the product used too. I respect the opinions of cosmetologists but I have had hair disasters at salons too. So.... Thanx again.
Seriously... the best diy highlight video I've seen. Thank you so much!
This technique is SO much better than poking yourself with a hook and cap!!
Thank you SOOOO MUCH!!! I’ve always done my own highlights mainly because I have bad luck at salons and also because I love doing hair & I’m too cheap to spend that much just on hair! With that being said, I’ve never been able to get the look I wanted with the way that I was doing it. I always did my rows front to back vs side to side and would be so bummed at the end because no matter how much or how little I weaved, it never came out as expected! So thank you for sharing this video! I am seriously obsessed with how good it comes out this way!!! THANK YOU!!!
wow!!! I just tried doing highlights!!! amazing.. so glad you posted this video...
I love you! I use to do hair and it’s been years but you just touched my heart! No gloves here either !! You’re so beautiful!
People can be way too fast to nit pick. Your method is great, your straight to the point video was so refreshing, there was no ten minutes of blah blah blah, me, me me! Been doing my own hair, with the naughty 40% vol developer and the only time I had problems was when I used 30%vol because I had to do it twice. I never stood a chance of lining them highlights up, so you can imagine the state of my hair.....I nearly went brunette again to hide it. Please keep up the hair advice, you just got yourself another subscriber.!!
Your video is awesome! My sister wants me to highlight her hair. I went to beauty school like forever ago! So I remember just enough to be dangerous. LOL. That was long before there were highlights. We did the old pull the hair through a cap process. I can’t wait to see how everything turns out. But, back to your video. Thank you so much for keeping it short and simple. I endured someone else’s video and I finally had to stop. It was so much unnecessary chit chat. You got to the point, yet told us what we need to know. Keep up the good work! I will be definitely watching for more videos from you.
You can always cut the 40 developer with 1part and 1 part conditioner if it's too strong it would take it down to a 20 .. or go 1/2 part conditioner and 1 developer and make a 30
For those stuck with 40 vol developer as well, You can mix 1/2 dev w/ 1/2 water and BAM! Now you've got 20 vol (more or less) At least it's MUCH less damaging :) p.s. love your videos
Wow! Of all 100 videos I’ve watched! This was the easiest to understand and get than even professional stylists! Thanks for showing
love the tip w the foil to hold the untreated sections for a few reasons but mostly for at home simplification. round of applause for catering to the DIY w practical tips that you make look easy.
This is the best hair highlighting DIY TH-cam video ever!!!
Thank you, you’re awesome and knowledgeable! I went to get highlights about 2 weeks ago and you can already see my roots! I’m gonna give this a try.
Hi my name is Linda & this is my 1st Time watching your video ..
I thought it was GREAT!!! You explained everything Very Well ...😁
I Love it that you got right to the point & simplified it...I Also enjoyed your No Nonsense ..This is how it is Don't do as I do ..type attitude ...It Was Great !! Made me laugh !!
In Summary I learned everything I needed to know in a short amount of time & you did it with humor !!!.1st video I actually 'Wanted to sit & watch it right to the end & not fast forward through
It Truly helped me understand how it was done 👍👍👍. Thanks Again!!
I'm glad you liked it!
Here to confirm it works! Did it on my mom and I and we both love it! Thanks!
Lauren Parker Yay!
Your tips for applying foils with the comb and holding the hair with the foils are great!
The reason professionals fold the foil is to prevent seepage up near the roots (the mixture expands a bit with the heat of the human body). So you actually want to lay the foil in the opposite direction, with the fold on the outside, not inside - you want to see the fold (and fold only about half inch to an inch). This will help prevent over-processing at the roots (or burning the scalp with bleach). I was a professional for 20 years (though, totally OK with folks doing it at home ... ;o))
Thank you for this. I’m currently having a mental breakdown so I’m gonna do purple highlights. best tutorial ever 💛
Lili Wills I’m all about mental breakdown hair colouring. Hope it turned out well and that things get better xx
Lol that's real. 😁
When I watch these videos I just get enraged that these hairstylists think they can charge $300 for this. I’ve only ever had one do a good job! I’m just now realizing I’ve been totally ripped off! Thank you sooo much for making this so easy and accessible 🙏🏼🙏🏼
I mean, good highlights take a long time. Her hair isn't bad at all but it definitely looks stripey instead of natural. I hate paying so much but when a lady is standing over me for an hour with her arms raised the whole time to put the highlights in, shampoos, conditions, tones, and protects my hair and then cut, blow, and styles and I'm out of there 3 hours later $300 doesn't seem bad. A 30 minute facial costs just as much and is much less labor intensive. Plus the stylists have to pay rent on their chair, if not they're just paid a wage the salon decides & the salon keeps the rest.
And you’re also paying for the convenience but $300 is too much I’ve been getting my hair highlighted for 25 years now and 125$ is as much as you should pay and that’s for gold standard any more, and you’re being ripped off.
Of plus 25-30% tip
Thank you, love!!! Very well done. Very easy to understand and follow. I truly appreciate you!!!
my mom and i both think you are a hair genius! thank you so much! i loved the video! so helpful!!
THANK YOU for taking it slowly and step by step! It really helped me see exactly what you you were doing and made it really clear! Bravo 👏! Great tips and advice! 👍👍👍. Thank you 🙏
"get 'er done" - so good and a $$ saver! Thanks Lou
I LOVE your videos. Not only are you super funny but you really made me feel confident about trying this.Thank you for being so genuine! Great tips!
I’ve watched tons of DIY highlighting tutorials and this is by far the best! ❤️ Love it!!!
By the way, I love your humour! I never do anyhtng smart either, its usually the hardest way is my way lol. Very great method, I just ordered my dye and its happening as soon as it gets here! my grandmother left me all of her hair stuff when she passed. (Bless her sweet soul) So I have done though it all, highlighted several times, permed my hair and everything! -- I can not wait to try this! :) Thank youo so much Lou. I call my daughter Remi Lou. (dont ask me why bc IDK! I have since she was a wee baby and funny thing is, her name is actually Remi Dawn. (just thought I woulld add that :) lol
Wow I bet after all these years you'd have never have guessed how many people have viewed this video and how many $$ it brought in. More than many professional hairdressers get. Good work!!
Omg I cannot believe I’ve found someone I can actually watch...isn’t that crazy how you have to almost bond with the you tubers you watch...I won’t learn anything if I don’t vibe with what your doing & what your saying to me!! I’m laughing my ass off on the thing you said about getting the back 😂
I always highlight at home I made a life choice to have blonde hair and also not to spend loads of money achieving it. Im due a root touch up its looking very balayage right now as it's been about 4 months since I last did it and I always get that butterfly feeling before I have to do it as I always worry about breakage and foil placement but I can honestly say this is the most simplest and most helpful tutorial I've ever seen! I'm trying this tonight thank you and wish me luck!! 😊
Victoria Bruce did you tried? done with your highlights?
LOVE! I am about to attempt this for the second time in my life, and last time, no foils, and it was chunky. Got a lot of compliments, but it was too chunky for me. . . .so here I go!
Your doing a fabulous job 👏 My girl is always having me do her hair your an inspiration ✨️
Great video- love the tip about securing hair between with the foil before 😊
Love your video! So easy. Much better than other recommended videos that are all out there.
You can start with 20Volume on the first side and 40Volume on the second side so the processing balances out with the timing.
Very clear and detailed explanation on how to highlight hair for someone for the very first time. Thank you
I never comment on here but you are amazing! Your tutorials are the easiest and actually turn out all right! After a few years of disastrous “styling” I am cutting and styling my hair myself and finally have the courage to try the foil technique with a colouring kit. My hair is salt and pepper so not sure how it’s going to turn out, wish me luck! X
Im so glad i came across your video now i have confidence to attempt to do at home highlights by myself wish me luck! Quarantine hair is gonna be amazing thanks to you!
Why am I always willing to attempt anything Lou does....?❤🤪
Lol yeah she really should go into politics ,she's convincing..lol
I can say this u. Showed me how to highlight my hair for the first time I ever tried doing it and it came out perfectly thanks for ur tutorial
A great little video but I am amazed your hair hasn't melted off with 40 volume peroxide all through to the ends !. I use 20 volume not on ends for about 45 minutes all is good.
I agree! But I don't usually use 40, as I explained in the video. It's all I had at the time. 😉
You can make 20 vol by adding equal parts water and developer.
Good to know!
Miff L ...right!
I love this video! Thanks for the tutorial! So much cheaper than going to the salon... really who has $200+ to get their hair done every few months
This is a great video.. "You Go Girl!!!" I have let my natural (ugly) hair grow out... but now I want just a few highlights... You are a God-Send... Thank you so much for sharing this!!! And "Thank you" for not having annoying music in the background while doing your tutorial... ;)
LOL I absolutely love you !! This is the first highlight video that I was actually entertained by while getting great results at the same time. You're awesome 😂😍
Can you show me or create a video on how to do the highlights on the back of my hair (all over) as well please.
You just got me to subscribe withing 10 sec. and your foil placement method won my heart. Good explanation. Loved ur video
the method is amazing and simple to follow! you are indeed a natural in front of camera! subscribed!!!
Absolutely love this video. Especially love how you’ve showed us every step and spoke us through it! Going to give it a try thankyou x
Such a great video! I had natural highlights done at salon but since quarantine, I have to do mine at home now, going to try today!
My daughter tries to explain it to me but watching you is everything she said plus your humor! Ik im late commenting on here but it was the first video from my search sooooo yea! Love it tho thank you
Great video, really straightforward explanation & demonstration. Thanks so much 😊. You’ve given me the confidence to have a go 👍
Wow..you made that work so beautifully.. thank you for your video.. best wishes and continued success
I love your wit and humor! Good job!
You're awesome! Love how down to earth you are! Thanks for keepin' it real 🌞
you have just convinced me to go have it done by someone other than myself ... preferrably a pro! i dont trust my two left hands enough ... merci ma chère ...
This is my favorite tutorial of all time! You are hilarious 😂 PLUS now I do this myself now 👏
As a hairdresser, I think you did great as a dyi! I thought the knife technique was funny lol
hello, thanks for the video. So you don't tone your hair after bleaching? is toning always a must?
i did this technique and it camed awesome. thanku💕💕
Wow! This is the 1st time I have seen one of your videos.....you are really amazing in front of the camera! I just wanted to let you know you are great at this!
I find it strange that all these professionals stylists are chiming in & telling commentors not to go over previously highlighted hair. That’s what led me to TH-cam in search of being able to do my roots, & my ROOTS ONLY. I can’t find a stylist to do that for me. On one occasion I told one to do my “roots” n she wound up covering up my highlights. I had to go home n do a couple of washes with lemon juice n powdered vit c. My hair is fried after stylists doing over n over what all these stylists are advising Lou not to do. I have vowed I will never pay again to get my hair cut n colored. I’m fed up with stylists! So far the cutting is going great. TH-cam has some great tutorials like this one. Thanks a million! 😊
very cute and a good job for an at home job. the reason highlighting from a salon is more expensive is because we use professional products and we spend 1200 to 2500 hours to learn the techniques. u should NEVER squish down the foils when highlighting and please people if u are not experienced do NOT use 40 vol u will literately melt your hair off if done incorectly. u are adorable and not knocking u just please remember we charge for our skill and our products and time.
Marie Sexton stfu. She seems pretty smart. Not everyone wants to spend their hard earned money on things they can learn on their own.
I agree. My girlfriend went to a salon for highlighting and paid $300. I don't know about you Marie but I for one can not afford to pay jacked up salon rates for something I can do at home.

Agreed! I have long, thick hair that grows FAST. I've spent way too many hours and too much money on highlights and they only look good for about a month because of root growth. Ridiculous.

Your a good teacher. I am getting the itch to try this. I really enjoyed your video. You may not be a professional but you were Awesome. Ty
Girl thank you, great diy. I'm gonna do mine this week end super excited!! I can do it. I already cut my long dark hair so this will be another money saved and hair dressers don't get me! 😁 thanks again!
Such a great technique 👏👏
You are very good at teaching foil highlighting, I’ve been a colorist almost 60 years , this is my second time watching your channel 🤩👏💁🏼♀️🇺🇸I’m Robert from Canonsburg Pa 15317 !!🤪
Hi Robert! Thank you!
Hi I m from India.I have dark black hair and highlighted my hair with soft red with your tecnic.loved it.
At Christmas time this past year I paid 130 bucks at ULTA to get my hair highlighted, colored and cut. It was horrible the highlights sucks they were not what I wanted. I even showed her a pic! Getting your hair done professionally is overpriced! I'm gonna give this at home method a try. Thanks for the video :)
Crystal Wood same here! I even booked the master stylist for 170! Mind you this is the shortest i have ever had my hair yet the most i have ever been charged. Never again.
Awesome information!
Thanks Sue
Crystal Wood -- I paid $130.00 to a "master stylist" at JC Penney ' s to highlight my hair. The highlights barely showed. I went back but she refused to do anything, so I'm learning how to do highlights myself.
Crystal Wood Same, I paid $200 at Ulta, worst experience EVER!
The manager/master styler looked me up and down when I arrived and immediately asked if they had gone over prices with me when I scheduled. 🤨 excuse me?? I should've left then but I just thought her mama didn't raise her right and ignored it. I had scheduled for highlights and a cut/style. After the highlights refused to use toner even though I mentioned I HATE when my hair ends up with orange and brass colors. FLAT said no! Guess what color my hair was... mhmm... brorange!
Rinse water completely down my shirt, no joke, had to go change before anything else and dug a clump of conditioner out of my ear. Uuugh!! Omg! I could go on but I will stop at that and just say.. girl, I will never do Ulta again!! I'm all about the DIY hair now
Nice job Lou. And we'd never leave you! 😊😊😊
this is a very good video and you are so comfortable doing these videos. It make the audience comfortable But you just taught me a lot about doing my hair. thanks and I really enjoy your videos.
This helps a lot. I have a long pixie and have been using a cap for years, but I always have problems at my part! My question is this, doesn't it fry your ends putting bleach over already bleached ends??
