As someone who constantly dyes her hair, this is such a great way to touch up a balayage - I'm trying it tonight to blend in my Grey's and grow out before going purple again!
This is a great technique! I have been doing my own hair for about 5 years now and use foils all throughout, but it takes forever and I have to have a spray bottle to stop processing sections as I go . I will try your method for touch ups because it seems wayyyy faster and I won’t have to do that!
Sooooo amazing, this is so needed! ❤❤❤ I love the way you say “trust the process” and “I trust the foils” 😂 seriously if you do your research and keep an eye on the foils it’s a no brainer 👏🏻
Do NOT try this if you are brunnette though. It will come out looking tiger stripey, Her hair is about a level 6 or 7 dark blonde range, on a darker head of hair foils would need to be insulated for warmth and extra lifting capacity. This is best if a person only wants a wee bit of lift like 2 levels or so. If you are not nimble it could turn out a disaster, much better to take paper thin slices and teasy lighten it in a small tuest tube section... for real. She has found a great way for herself but not every natural haircolor will be able to use this technique. When in doubt go to a professional- ESPECIALLY if you have artifical color in your hair, to avoid banding😳😨😟
I agree. I am level 4 dark brunnette. It have to bleech two seperate times to achieve the lift and get brassy orange out. I use 40 volume developer to lift the natural color of dark brunnette. Need to becarefil with level 40 as it can also damage your hair. I did a test spot first. I then tone each time. I do not recommend a natural dark brunnette go full blonde as it will damage your hair. I started doing my own hair as the salons kept putting highlights in my hair making me blonder every appointment I went to and saying they couldn't get the brass out even after toning. $250 apointment plus tip. No more.
Such a wonderful demonstration! You’re hair is so beautiful😍. Could you please mention what brand is the toner? And do you mix it with a 10vol developer?
If you dilute your 10 just a tiny bit with water....to a 9 volume you shouldn't have any of the warmth that tends to occur when using 10 volume 👍🏻. Pro tip 😉
Hi beautiful! This is the second video I see of you, in the other one you’ve gone almost totally blonde aaaaand it was AMAZING! You are a master of blonde! I would like to ask you, is there something you do externally or internally for having such a healthy, beautiful hair? I had so so so many bad experiences at the salon and now I’m doing it at home by myself. I must admit this ain’t an easy road, since the science of color is not easy to learn and understand. But I am happy with my color, and that’s good so far. I can’t say the same about the health of my hair so I would really appreciate some tips and tricks from someone that really HAS IT. Thank you! Greetings from far away, from Spain ❤
Do you only use Olaplex when you're bleaching? I only ask because I literally used this once with this use and then one time about a week later and those two uses caused my hair to fall out in masses. I know I am not the only one, although I think I might be the only person I know who had this devastation in 2 uses. I have also been bleaching my hair in this way for almost 20 years and this is NOT something that happens to me normally. Just curious as to your experience.
Hmm that’s really odd! Sorry that happened to you! I’ve been using Olaplex part 1 and 2 for years, mostly I add it to my bleach but occasionally I do the stand alone treatment without bleach and I’ve never noticed any hair loss, I’ve only noticed positives like my hair feeling silkier and easier to brush. I’ve used it on many clients too over the years and I’ve never noticed that on anyone! Everyone’s hair is different so it’s possible that your hair has a bad reaction with Olaplex, I have heard of other people saying this online so maybe there’s an ingredient in it that doesn’t agree with some people, I’d stop using it asap!
I know how much mess i make in the bathroom doing my dark brown roots, I was so nervous that you did that in your pristine white bedroom!! Btw I think your hair DOES look AMAZING 😍❤ Love your videos ❤
I would love to do my own hair, I was tempted after seeing your hair cut video, but bc my roots are dark brown and the ends are more of a blondy tone, I panicked I would mess it up, so Im forking out over £100 to get it cut & coloured. I would love to take the roots a lot lighter more of an ash blonde/brown but I was quoted £500-1000 😮😮😮 😢
Heyy, toner doesn’t affect the surrounding hair! It will only tone the pre lightened hair. It also doesn’t lighten it only deposits a tone, for example I used a blue/purple toner to neutralise the orange/yellow but this will not effect the brown hair :)
Omg!! that looks soooo tricky lol - I can only imagine me trying to do that. It is easier for me to use the old cap from years ago. Your hair is in beautiful condition what shampoo and conditioner etc... do you use....
As a hairdresser , this is helpful , but no way would l recommend girls do this themselves, also need to be more careful overlapping those previous blonde midlengh ,especially with 30 vol !
Anyone else having troubles with the comb back that doesn't stay back and mess up everything ? Can I damp the hair a bit? I have way and thick hair and the comb back keeps getting in the way
I'm just curious, why did you wait until it was really light, and put light brown on top of that afterwards instead of just stopping when it became light brown?
That’s a good question a lot of people learn when first using bleach. There’s no “light brown” phase of bleaching hair. It goes through shades of orange, then yellow, then palest yellow to almost white. Stopping bleach processing early will give you terribly brassy, orange or dark yellow results that you have to try to combat with toners to no avail (unless that’s what you want). Super frustrating. You need to get to light yellow at least, then you can deposit light brown color on top of that.
Did you say it had been 15 or 50 minutes? I think I am definitely capable of doing foils/highlights, I'm just so nervous that I will leave the bleach on too little or too long, so I'll end up with orange hair or no hair. Have you got any tips to check when the hair/bleach is ready to be washed out
50 minutes and you can check just by having a look at the colour, if it’s still really orange it’s too early to wash out but equally if it’s been on for the full 50 minutes and it isn’t lightening leaving it on for longer will just damage the hair, it depends how dark your hair is to start with! Also just remember that I am a professional hairdresser so if you’ve never tried before please be careful! You can practice with conditioner mixed with a bit of flour to thicken it and then practice trying to put in a few foils, it’s a LOT fiddlier than it looks x
So you basically just do the top layer because this is for "in between appointments". I was thinking there is no way that she does her own hair and it looks that good, especially because you have so much hair. But I agree, this is adequate until your next appointment, i would not recommend anyone doing this on all their hair unless they know what they're doing.
Thank you for the tutorial. For Dark Brunettes or darker hair you will not achieve the lightness of hair as she did on your first application even with toning. Lower number = darker hair Higher number = lighter hair for example Dark Brown is 4 Lightest, Blonde is 10. So to lift the color with bleach/lightener you will only get 2 shades lighter with one processing. Going from Dark Brown 4 lifting color you will get a Medium Light Brown 6. But it will also be orangey and brassy. I see that toning, (product that neutralizes or adjusts the color) after lifting, doesn't help much. So ladies you may have to bleach a separate time 3 weeks later on the same spot plus tone. Lookup what toner would be best blue, purple or both. My salon would just keep putting all over highlights in my hair every time I went till I was blonde, not the look I wanted. So with research and my sister being a cosmetologist in another city, I figured out what works for me. Always do a test spot and keep the lightener/bleach from drying out when on your head. so use foil.
First of all it depends how thick your hair is whether you will be done in 30 mins 1,2,3hrs my hair is so thick i couldn't do my money peice in nothing less than 40 mins maybe 30
Don’t waste your olaplex like that. It’s only a certain amount added depending on how much bleach you mixed. Adding more olpalex than what is instructed in the manufacturer instructions will not give you more protection against the bleach, it’s just a waste of good olaplex
calling this "easiest" is interesting... By the time you get to the back of the head, the front foils will be burnt... This would take absolute ages to do by yourself, even if you are a professional...
I’m considering doing my own hair, if I were to do it by myself I would definitely do the front of my hair first, then rinse and dry and then do the back 😅
Why not start at the back? The hair naturally bleeches faster in the front because it's where the sun hits and it's darker in the back. So if one starts back everything will be finished at the same time?
It looks like a professional did that. No harsh lines, everything is blended so nicely, it looks like hair were lightened by the sun.
she is a professional
You did an awesome job on your hair and you are skilled at what you do. Love the results.

Wow this is fantastic! I’m bookmarking to reference in 3-4 weeks. 😅

Awhh good!! Hope you find it helpful :)
you did so amazing! i think it looks fabulous
Great technique. I did this last night and it worked better than me baby light and took me half the time! Thank you ❤❤❤❤

I know you put the seven on your roots what other areas did you tone and also which ones did you use for mids ,ends or anything?

Hahahaha thank you so much! Bleach is defo less messy than dark brown hair dye to be fair 😂🥰🥰
Fab! Will try this Thanks so much!
How do you do the toner time mixing with what and after shampoo
I would love to do my own hair, I was tempted after seeing your hair cut video, but bc my roots are dark brown and the ends are more of a blondy tone, I panicked I would mess it up, so Im forking out over £100 to get it cut & coloured. Yeah if your roots are really dark it’s defo more risky to bleach it yourself but Wowww £1000 is criminal 😭😭
Awesome !
I love this idea ❤❤❤❤
You did a great job!
Can you elaborate on how you toned the bleached parts? I thought the toner would lighten the other bits of surrounding hair? Thank you!!

This is not balayage, this is a highlighting touch up.
