In this Video an old gent rings me up asking for my help. he has just started cutting his grass for the first time and after just 2 mins the drive has stopped working.. should be a simple fix and within an hour i drop the mower back off to him, thanks for watching

Good logical fix. Looking at the state of the underneath, so long as it's working, he won't care about what it looks like. Good to see someone with common sense Mick. Keep repairing and recording please.

HI , GOOD JOB THE DRIVE BELT WAS NOT CHOP UP . I HAD ONE IN THE BELT WAS CHOP UP BY THE BLADE AND THE BELT COVER COME OFF . SO I PUT A BRAND NEW BELT COVER ON .

Heh Mick, Used this info to fix my SP536. Solid block of compressed grass under the guard had push belt off. Thanks for the video. Wife can now cut grass again!

Good grief that mower needs a bath on the under side mate i do a cleaning of my Husqvarna mower when i get through cutting the grass for a clean mowei is a happy mower the style of mowers you have across the pond are very interesting looking to my eyes later mick from a mower manic lol😅😂🤣 you did a great Repair job there mate keep fixing those mowers

maintance can go along way. I typically power wash or at least hose off the decks and underside before working on them. and if I get sticking grass under it then clean it off right away before putting away. another Tip, I heard, is try coating the deck with WD-40 or similar product prior to mowing on the under side to prevent sticking grass . I heard that might help some.

Alright Mick, I just picked up a Yamaha Mower, and the self drive only works sometimes when it’s on the ground, but when lifted of the ground the wheels seem to go round fine
Nathan Huitson sounds like the gearbox. The reason it’s spinning when lifted is because the blade boss is turning it
Micks Mowers that’s annoying, it’s probably not worth fixing then, it’s a Yamaha 446 has 2 gears

Those guards falling off are a common fault with these mowers as grass gets in them and the weight of the grass build up pulls the tabs off. As these mountfield mowers were their B&Q, Screwfix and own label budget mowers they didn't care how well they were built as non of the premium range mountfield models had this issue.

@@themowerman the other common issue with mountfield, latest ATCO and the parent company Stiga mowers is the blade bosses are very weak and constantly shear. They even fit the same blade bosses on the Mountfield, ATCO, Stiga and the Honda (made by Stiga) ride on mowers.

Hi Mick, I have recently got a Mountfield SP414 which starts & then hunts & cuts out. Been watching your vids on how to fix this. Also noticed the Self propel doesn’t work when I lift the back wheels off the ground. Do I need to drain all the oil & fuel prior to tipping the mower up to check the belt etc to see why the drive isnt working. If drive is kaput dont want to spend money on the mower doing it up.
No mate .. tip it up on its side with the carb at the high point.. then when your done just leave it for 15mins on its wheels before starting it again
Does that Mountfield bloke never hose out the deck after mowing? It's absolutely crusted with grass in there. You get to breathe in the mould, Mick.

good video mick all about saving money at this present time what spark plug do you recommend for a ryobi grass strimmer
The brand of spark plug I would recommend is NGK. They aren't the cheapest but they are better than the cheaper Chinese made ones and the Champion spark plugs. If the make of plug in your Ryobi is a different make go onto NGK's website and their is a cross reference section to cross reference your plug to the NGK equivalent.
tim palmer cmr6h is what I use but please check that’s correct for your model

Grand wee fix would be possible to rivet a angle bit
Of metal to replace broken bit like aluminium etc I’m a great believer reuse modifying parts the rest parts fine why bin it
Money hard to come by and easy to spend unnecessarily
Designed so you have replace with new part modification away mick
Lateral thinking will get things fixed and save money especially

Could be timing.. put some carb spray in the carb and see if it will fire.. if so clean the carb
Hi , I wonder if you can give me some advice please ? I have bought a Mountfield SP454 mower from an auction , I didn’t have a spark plug in so I replaced the plug with a new one , done an oil change and put new petroleum in it , I’ve cleaned the jets and put everything back the correct way , trouble I have is I have pulled the cord to start it a couple of times and it has fired ups but then cut out straight away , it sounds like it wants to go but will just not fire up , is there anything else I can do to try to get it going ? Be grateful if you could give me any advice please . Cheers Clark .

@@themowerman thank you , i have sprayed aerosol into the carb and pulled the cord , if i keep the spray going in its stays running but the minute i stop with the spray it cuts out ! So I think you may be correct with your diagnosis . Thank you . Clark

Hi mick do you sell parts for a mcculoch 261 bush strimmer. Looking for fuel lines and fuel filter. Had the mess around with some sites
Contact a Husqvarna dealer as McCulloch are their budget machinery division. You need to locate the black serial sticker or plate and quote the product number (PNC) or the serial number.
arronkenny hi you can buy a set of lines all different sizes and filters as a pack on eBay. They are very cheap.
Why did the belt come off?
Because the grass got in-between the belt and the drive pulley
where you based mick, i been watching for a while but not confident enought to try and clean service my mower. would like you to do mine its a hayter double 3. im in harlow essex and hope your not too far

It should have a spring on the gearbox going to the lawnmower deck.

@@axal321 sounds like the cable is stuck on the gearbox or has a lot of grass stuck in it.. jet wash it off and try again..
