"Difficult to work with" is probably the biggest understatement I've ever heard. My grandfather worked on designs for a magnesium body aircraft. He said it was the single most frustrating thing he ever did. I think Jay Leno put it best. "It's not impossible to work with, but it's impossible to work with."
Really impressive endeavor. I'm sure at some point the decision to take this project on was questioned. Well done for persevering. What an amazing accomplishment for you and your shop. ..and the reward must be multifaceted. It has surely brought awareness to the world class capabilities of you and your crew. Well done sir.
I drive by twice a day and I never get tired of seeing this car. Absolutely gorgeous in it's own unique way. A part of history thought to be lost. A good group of people bringing back the past. Great job and what an awesome job.
I was in contact with David about parts for a Bugatti and had lots of conversations with him. He's a straight up guy who is easy to talk to and deal with. You can't get a better guy! Congratulations on the Aerolithe! I saw it at the Beverly Hills Car Show 2019! Fantastic in magnesium!
Here after seeing the Aerolithe on Jay Leno's channel, and I am thrilled to see you guys have your own channel now! I've been watching you guys on Velocity/Motor Trend for years! Great to see you have your own youtube channel to see more of what you do! Thanks so much!!
While styling of the Aerolithe is nice, what makes this car so appealing (for me) to look at is the workmanship, paint and color choice. Just a superbly well done job!! Note that whenever the engine is run, it probably should be run for 20 minutes to 1/2 hour in order to burn off condensation which will otherwise accumulate in the crankcase oil.
Amazing car! Thank you for these nice videos :) although, in my opinion, the sounds in the background (music or workshop) should be lowered so we could focus more on the narrator's voice.
Must Try Harder........just joking folks. Its a masterpiece and you made it. The word "Admiration" doesn't even come close to how impressed I am with your work standards.
I'm not sure of the exact paint color but there was a painting of the car given to the founder of Bugatti that was this color (no color photos existed of the original) and the car's nickname was Creme De Menthe. On Jay Leno's garage they were discussing it.
imagine that all those amazing shapes were built in 1936 with hammer, rollers and a huge amount of skills .........imagine that today when robots do most work in building cars and we all know what crap that car is after 10 years........world will never be like that .....
FlatBrimSickDope I don’t think he’s on meth they act like hillbillies down east also he know s how to do body work you just don’t like him he’s got a show you don’t so I don’t think he’s doing to bad unless you know he’s is a meth head keep your fucking mouth shut usually the people that mouth off are the one with a problem
Great car but the way they did the front guards are wrong! @8:50 you can see the blue one the guards point in as Bugatti of the day ran a lot of positive camber & on their one they had the guards pointing out! All the Bugatti's of the day looking at the car from the front the guards point in!
Without Alex Plestid, this project would have been a lead zeppelin. Brad gave up then takes credit. Alex made it a Led Zeppelin with patience, skill and grace.
Quite right! In fact, we have found that the degradation of the unsealed Elektron is much faster than anticipated. For instance, we had to take extra steps to protect the bare alloy underneath of the hood as its exposure was starting to show signs of oxidization at a rapid rate. Thanks for watching.
It would be a great shame if this work of art were to succumb to corrosion, I have Electron brake plates on a Vincent Lightning and they are now beyond saving, even after soda blasting and etch priming they are still corroding, trying to get back to oxide in the ground.
An awesome bike! If there is enough of a pattern to go by, we can suggest a foundry that can cast the plates, which will require finishing, but will duplicate the originals for the bike and restore them to new condition. If you are interested in this please send an email to Projects@guildclassiccars.com
Yes ! The only way to go, I made up patterns and cast them in LM21 (I think that is what I used), then heat treated them, and made jigs to machine them, the big problem I had was that others found out I was making them and I was inundated with requests, the project was very interesting with both front and rear brake plates as they are all originally made in Magnesium. The strange thing is that although the gearbox case on my Fergusson tractor is Magnesium it has not corroded any where near as much, they were Zinc Phosphated originally, the cases are very dark looking ,but sound. Good Luck with your projects ! Chris B.
Englishman French I used to maintain Light Attack aircraft at sea on the Flight Deck of Aircraft Carriers. Magnesium is one of our biggest headaches. Specially its unique burning charcteristics. Thats bad news in Carrier Aviation. The way uncle sugar long term stores his high mag content aircraft should offer some insight into similar for automobiles. Dry desert air and several copper ground straps.
with regards to the assumption of having the original car dismantled. This is an assumption. Needs to be proved. There is also an additional possibility that someone decided to keep the car in a garage and location still not available to the public. But then again is another assumption. Good marketing though.
Would the Guild of Classics be interested in my 2010 Volkswagen Polo as a part ex against this car? Mine is 75 years newer and you can get spare parts for it. And you can park it anywhere without people staring or the risk of envy fuelled vandalism.
I can't believe people still trust Grainger or the Guild. Do your research, ask people in the automotive community and save your money. Lots of better shop around.
Unpopular opinion: Be it the Type 57 SC Atlantic or this one, I don't quite like the hump at the back as it looks redundant, overdone, disproportionate. It would be beautiful, if it was a bit sleek.
It's not a car..it's a piece of art..! Great respect for the people that made this project become true.
You are so right. I think God bless this man's mind to develop this car. Meaning Buggatii and The Guild man too. Beautiful.
"Difficult to work with" is probably the biggest understatement I've ever heard. My grandfather worked on designs for a magnesium body aircraft. He said it was the single most frustrating thing he ever did. I think Jay Leno put it best. "It's not impossible to work with, but it's impossible to work with."
My god , I am in awe. That you were able discover. How to use a material, virtually next to impossible to use, and you master in the skill.
Absolutely STUNNING re-creation
I drive by twice a day and I never get tired of seeing this car. Absolutely gorgeous in it's own unique way. A part of history thought to be lost. A good group of people bringing back the past. Great job and what an awesome job.
I remember watching the TV series when the shop built this car definitely was interesting.
yes! I watched this also .. amazing how they were able to work with the materials that others thought would be impossible !
Pure Deco Art.
Fabulous to catch the finished effort. Remarkable achievement. Fabulous skill sets all.
That is stunning. Craftsmen at their best. Well done

That is unbelievable. I am speechless . What an accomplishment.
Fabulous car, well done David and the team. Amazing recreation.
A glorious, glorious work of art. The work that went into creating that car is staggering. A tribute to your and your team, sir. Well done indeed!!
You are awesome Mr Grainger! Always a joy to watch you.
Hands down.. this is the most amazing car ever built!
Sculpted conveyance in the art-deco styling of Bugatti, nice one Dave!!!
Absolutely amazing David. Outstanding project!!! Greetings from Argentina
What a marvellous looking vehicle.
Congratulations to everyone at The Guild who were responsible and involved in the build. Incredible craftsmen!
Thanks Dave for sharing this fantastic build with us. Amazing craftsmanship
I love it that they didn’t cut any corners! Superb!
Wow! Amazing talent, i love the show and detailed explanations!
absolutely a stunning work of art. Cudos to all involved!
Love your shop, loved your old history channel show. Have visited Bradford Ont, and seen your place inside and out. Nice to see you on youtube again.
Just an stunning piece of art. Hope to see it in person some day.
Oh my. If only........Yes - a piece of art. Thank you.

Nice summary of a Beautiful Automobile creation!
Awesome. David Grainger looks like the Emperor Palpatine.
The Force is strong with him....You might be on to something.
Geo mate Illuminati: stay where you are!
Dave is handsome AF
What an amazing job done! This replica was all done by using photographs, that’s amazing skills
One of the most stunning cars ever designed
Mind blowing the work you guy's have put in to it
Just beautiful workmanship

Exceeding the definition of masterpiece.

What an absolute beautiful color for that car!
WOW... Just " WOW "
Wow that's some amazing bodywork
Absolutely breathtaking
A brave effort!
Wow, awesome video and I love the channel. I look forward to more videos.
Thank you! please share with your friends so we can continue bringing great content.
And the colour is just beautifully spot on, If you can give me the colour code I d like to spray my project Citroen Ami 6 with that colour
Anything Bugatti is Special.!! Your vision and efforts are superb. Maybe this chassis Did have a body. Who knows what it was?
Amazing car! Thank you for these nice videos :) although, in my opinion, the sounds in the background (music or workshop) should be lowered so we could focus more on the narrator's voice.

Nailed it!
All right Guild lets see you build the next Batmobile. I wonder what you would create, an art deco style car for a 30’s movie.
This is my favourite bugatti
Me too
best looking car on the planet!!!
Very impressive!
respect sir, from uk.
Art on wheels.
Our thoughts exactly!
Shouldn't it be named "Aérolithe" instead of "Aerolithé"? The second one doesn't make much sense in French.
Most beautiful car I ever seen. Congrats
Sans blague !
It is indeed called the Aérolithe, i guess it's just a pretty bad typo
Call it the Atlantic.
@@tatem1062 Or Atlantique ;)
That green color is absolutely mesmerizing. What color is that? Does that magnesium make it that color?
I'm not sure of the exact paint color but there was a painting of the car given to the founder of Bugatti that was this color (no color photos existed of the original) and the car's nickname was Creme De Menthe. On Jay Leno's garage they were discussing it.
Hello
Is this car for sale?
Question is, the chassis and drive train is part of the “ missing car” or another from the same period? Be nice if it is, but who knows?
Respect
There are two types of type 57 chassis.
There is a controversy in which of the two types was used for the Aerolithe
Wow nice super car i love it.... From u.s.a.. Chao
Built by a Canadian...
I think I watched how they restored it @ restoration garage at amazon prime video
Leno sent me here
Take a drink when he says 'chassis'.
how much does it weigh?
Here from Jay Leno’s Garage

Check out Bad Chad's bugatti
man..i was just thinking how much talent. bad chad really has..
@@donbradley3259 you mean meth, right? You havent seen that dudes shit close up, have you?

Bad Chads Bugatti just sold for $40 million.
Just thinking how good bugatti body guys were and why they do it from magnesium...
I just want to sit in this car once. It's not a car..it's a dream
I wonder what its drag race times would be.
a great milestone for the guild, but you gotta get that windmilll off the building!
Aérolithe, not Aerolithé ! 5:50 why not use induction to heat the stuff at precise temperature instead of a torch ?
I don't like this boss too much because we all know this was made by especially one young master builder.
Great car but the way they did the front guards are wrong! @8:50 you can see the blue one the guards point in as Bugatti of the day ran a lot of positive camber & on their one they had the guards pointing out! All the Bugatti's of the day looking at the car from the front the guards point in!
At 9:48 you can see the original cars picture the guards are pointing in!
Its a car that has been made by true artizans
Anyone remember the young chap's name who built this for the guild?
And thats how we put an art in a God damn car.. love it !!
How do you get such deep rimples?
Without Alex Plestid, this project would have been a lead zeppelin. Brad gave up then takes credit.
Alex made it a Led Zeppelin with patience, skill and grace.
You would be amazed how much bondo was used to finish it
Does he only have one outfit ?
An absolute fantastic re creation , unfortunately the use of Magnesium will mean this car will just crumble with 50 years.

Sheets of Magnesium?🤔 magnesium is highly flamable
JœF , very correct! I think it was riveted mostly.
Bad chad built 1 in 6 months part time by himself
Yeah : ya can drive Chad's .. these yuppies may as well build diacast models for rich people's mantel pieces
@@cjwallow This is a Bugatti, Chads is not.
Lmao idiot
Out of mild steel!
And is Chad's car worth several million $
so this is a replica no mater what you say. It's not the actual body nor frame.
Nope, the frame, engine, differential, and axle are original Type 57 stuff. He explained that the first part of the video
What a piece of junk! I got two of those in the backyard the kids crawl through and play on as their jungle gym.
😜
Gorgeous! Top effort!
Bad chad built one from a Volvo
He's foolng nobody with that wig lol.
But it is his wig.
Darrell Blake
and?
Colin Johnston And leave da man alone, he ugly enough as it is.
He fooled me
This is a class on history..and your comment pertains to his wig..you're a POS idiot...STFU

i would say...... with the investment ... no one has done more research on that car and what happened to it... than these guys
So this is a replica.....?
So it didn't end up with the Schlumpf's then.
The real name of this car is Bugatti Aérolithe or Bugatti 57.
to me, this is the most beautiful car ever built...
👏👏👏👏
This one has a dropped chassis now too i heard.
This car is gonna finish in flames...im sorry to say it...
