      I really loved how he contrasted the differences between aluminum and magnesium - it helped me grasp the metallurgy better and understand not just the how but the why. Great videos guys!

    What a sculpture, a fine piece of art..The craftsmanship effort, abour and love put in this 'car' (I still consider it pure art instead of car) is so great!

    Are there, other than Bugatti's, any pre war cars with Magnesium Alloy bodywork?

    That is an absolutely gorgeous car! You should be very proud of what you have achieved. It's a true work of art and easy to see why they are worth over a million.

    I have an English Wheel I use for removing dents from brass musical instruments. My work is much the same. Except for the paint, clear laquer or silver plating shows imperfections really well.

    great subject matter, I enjoy watching and hearing someone who is knowledgeable. Only one criticism of this video, The camera jumping around is somewhat dizzying, I understand it is the 'you are there' aspect of it, but for me it was a bit distracting. Looking forward to more of this kind of informative video.

      As this video showed, basic things are not impossible without machines or special tools.
      1: Have your experts show a bit about a shot bag and what can be done with that, different materials and how to work them, basic systems and methods,
      2: How does one restore an electrical system?
      3:Corrosion protection after the restoration is done.
      4 Upholstery and inner panels, etc
      Not looking for training, just the expert's insight into doing this art, as most viewers probably have a fairly good idea about the process.
      hows that for a start?

    • @thomasdouglas7846
      @thomasdouglas7846 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those are excellent ideas! Restoration of a wiring harness is a pretty straight forward one! I believe we can work into the next couple of weeks working with the shot bag. Thanks for the great suggestions!

    An amazing quest, first to research and create something accurately when there are no real blueprints to work with....then to master a material which is so intractable - magnesium....forcing those involved to become masters of a completely new material and imagine, test and perform repeatedly all the fabrication techniques/approaches as well as creating the necessary tools to further these approaches. Finally, the discipline to pursue perfection, without compromise of any sort. There are very rare opportunities to build a partnership between a patron who can fund such an endeavour and craftsmen with the will to learn and persist....

    At the 1:01 mark. What is the drop tank in the background on the ceiling? Looks like a P-38 drop tank.

    • @thomasdouglas7846
      @thomasdouglas7846 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, David had that drop tank with the intention of turning it into a racer, however he has since changed his mind. Now it just hangs there.

    Some constructive criticism... I really liked the content and you're good on camera but the camera shook so much it was very distracting for me. A smoother filming style usually works better for informative videos. Great idea to make these videos though.

      Thank you for the critique, it is one that we took to heart as this video was once of the first that was launched on the channel and early on in production. Since then, our production crew has fine tuned their efforts and the more recent footage is much more stable. It's a pleasure to give our audience what they want to see, which is more of what we do here.

    @t LMG’s PLANT APPROVED BY LATROBE CITY COUNCIL and GHD REPORTS 9 June 2020, Sydney Australia: On 5 June 2020, Latrobe Magnesium Limited’s (ASX:LMG) application to the Latrobe City Council for planning approval to use and develop the site for its initial 3,000 tpa magnesium plant at 320 Tramway Road Hazelwood North was approved and a certificate issued.The plant will use a world first patented extraction process of combined hydromet / thermal reduction to extract the metal. The company intends to harvest magnesium metal from industrial fly ash which is currently a waste product of brown coal power generation.

    So you spend all that effort to build a whole car, it came out exceptionally beautiful and then it's not even yours?
    Now that's devotion.

    1. Why not use hydraulic press?
    2.How do you make the sides simmetrical?

    • @leneanderthalien
      @leneanderthalien 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      no hydraulic press (press forms tools are EXTREMLY EXPANSIVE) , all hand made, they use paterns for simmetry

  • @77Avadon77
    @77Avadon77 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    There are two types of forming. Dishing and Raising

    Here's another reason they don't build cars out of magnesium: "Not only is it a flammable solid, it's also water-reactive. Once ignited, magnesium burns vigorously. When water is applied, it can explode violently."
