This could be 100Bht. more or less. If you are dating a Thai woman, in most cases man should take care of the bill, it's the culture.

She tipped 15-20-25%, and said to me "We have so much, they have so little". This is whether or not we ate for 40 baht or for 200 baht per person. I have lived here for 27 years since then, have continued with her tipping practices, and have yet to receive any response to show that I am looking at them in a condescending way. I have had a hell of a time getting some friends out of the 20 baht or 10% tip mode, but a few have followed. Always enjoy your videos.

I was invited to join dinner with some european friends who drank and ate at a nice restaurant. When the bill arrived and the celebrant who invited us paid the bill, he did not leave a tip. He was confronted by staff who asked politely if there was a problem with the meal and service. He had to leave a tip to save face. Phones, with close friends going out for dinner, I have asked no phones during dinner and I have been fortunate, that thai friends recognize my request to be attentive and friendly for an hour or so.

Wow. So many great white sharks? So pushy bar staff standing right in your face picking up your beer to check how full it was then saying one more? I think I would just leave my phone in my pocket the whole time. that way you have no worry or fear about your phone potentially going missing when you go to the restroom. One thief could distract the person left at the table and a second thief could be gone with the phone in like 2 seconds, and potentially so could your date if you do not know them at all.

In 1987, my Thai gf (born in the USA, then moved to Thailand until age 10, then back to the USA until age 21) and I visited Thailand. She tipped 15-20-25%, and said to me "We have so much, they have so little". This is whether or not we ate for 40 baht or for 200 baht per person.
I have lived here for 27 years since then, have continued with her tipping practices, and have yet to receive any response to show that I am looking at them in a condescending way.
I have had a hell of a time getting some friends out of the 20 baht or 10% tip mode, but a few have followed.

If you are foreign then the Thais will take your tips because they think you are a tourist who is wealthy and they dont care if its "rude". Its when a local tries to tip too much they dont like it - IME. Its a face thing. Again IME.

I agree with your practice completely. Stating that Thais do not tip is incorrect, Thais do tip. It may be a token of 50 -100 when the bill is several thousand. I was invited to join dinner with some european friends who drank and ate at a nice restaurant. When the bill arrived and the celebrant who invited us paid the bill, he did not leave a tip. He was confronted by staff who asked politely if there was a problem with the meal and service. He had to leave a tip to save face.
Phones, with close friends going out for dinner, I have asked no phones during dinner and I have been fortunate, that thai friends recognize my request to be attentive and friendly for an hour or so.

Morning Adam.my first trip into Bangkok from Pattaya yesterday after many years,all 12 mates out last night from our hotel in soi 11,walked towards Nana.first stop Morning Night bar….140 for a beer? Wow. So many great white sharks? So pushy bar staff standing right in your face picking up your beer to check how full it was then saying one more? Grrr.then the demanding sharks arrive you buy me drink,one for my sister😂 next stop the bar on the corner of Nana plaza,stumble in I think it is.same in there,we had 5 of us at one table ordered drinks,one bin arrives? Had to pay that then ask for seperate bins. But again ladies and bar staff so pushy.definitely not like some bars in Pattaya and Jomtien. Heading to Cowboy tonight I think wonder how that will be.take care mate.safe travels

I think I would just leave my phone in my pocket the whole time. that way you have no worry or fear about your phone potentially going missing when you go to the restroom. One thief could distract the person left at the table and a second thief could be gone with the phone in like 2 seconds, and potentially so could your date if you do not know them at all.

sorry to say but that is called rude, never expect anything in return when you give something - why ?- You have no clue of Thailand culture, as you are in a Buddhist country and to 'give' is part of their daily life it actually starts already in the early morning when people give the food to the monks - so to expect something in return for what you think is your gernerousity is actually seen as rude - In Thailand you have to thank that you have to opportunity to give, as this allows you to do something good.
But as a common hint this is a rule for your life in the whole world - if you give never expect anything back, give it from you heart or do not give anything at all.
If you have this habbit or the thinking of your above comment you are really in the wrong country if you stay in Thailand.

My advice is don't date out of your pay grade. Mix in the same circles you would back home, are you going to Michelin Star Restaurants back home, mixing in upper-class society, if the answers no, then don't do it in LOS.
