    That 50-110 is the most amazing rifle /cartridge combination for raw power. I'm curious if they allow it in Africa for dangerous game? Love the video. Blessings to you and your family.

    FASCINATING!! I’m continually amazed that the 86 action will take this kind of pressure, but I’m actually more amazed that the barrel takes what it does: unless I’m missing something ALL 1886 barrels screw into the receiver the same way… THAT means that the BIGGEST cartridge has the LEAST amount of metal around it…also there is only the tiniest amount of receiver metal between the barrel hole and the mag tube hole…..thanks for the awesome firepower demonstration!!

    • @Leverguns50
      @Leverguns50  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Even the threaded part of the barrel is thicker than the cylinder wall on a 500 S&W, which generates much higher pressure

    That’s an interesting explanation of the physics of how bullet shape effects the impact. I would have thought the exact opposite, that the sharper bullet would have better penetration, but what you said makes more sense, especially against a hard target.

    Nice video. Appreciate you making it.
    Is your rifle an original or is it a modern one?
    Also, I’ve read about converting certain modern Winchester’s to 50-110…

    • @Leverguns50

      The 50-110 was a jacketed soft lead Bullet made by fury. You’re only supposed to push it to 2200 fps. Because it will over expand. At higher velocity., if you look at the stack, the base of the bullet was that thin jacket, then it had a little lead piece about a quarter of an inch thick and then it had the steel plug from the target

    Ok I have to call BS here! I love the 50-110 and have Hi-Walls chambered in 50-110 and even one for 50-140 but this just wasn't fair, obviously a factory 300 Gr. Black powder pressure load vs a 50-110 loaded to who knows what! I know for a FACT that a modern pressure 45/70 will have more punch than an original pressure 50-110! This obviously slanted "apples to oranges" comparison means nothing! Compare an original BP pressure 45/70 to an original BP pressure 50-110 and do this test again, and yeah I know there were later smokeless loads for the '110 but the test should be "apples to apples"! A BP equivalent 45/70 vs a souped up (compared to original factory specs) 50-110 , yeah real fair there!
    Ok let the flaming begin, I have, load for and shoot both calibers and what I see here is just plain nonsense, look at the muzzle blast on that 45/70 and then check out the muzzle blast on the 50-110 and tell me that's not a "souped up" hand load!

      The 45-70 even out of that shorter barrel was going 2150 FPS with a 300 grain bullet, the new production, 1886 Winchester, with chrome alloy steel barrel at 50,000 psi was sending that 300 grain bullet at 2964FP there’s no magic to it just raw power

      I have several fans that are and they all agree that is harden steel because of the way it sheared off and I do have done blacksmithing, and I worked as a machinist for 20 years, and we did heat treating making bearing cutters and sawblades for cutting steel

      @@Leverguns50 Ok having fans testify DOES NOT present a scientific consensus, glad to hear you have machining background. I just happen to have a hardness tester and am ordering the same steel you used and will test...

    Now you mentioned you were able to obtain 2050 feet per second with a 600 grain bullet was that for my 18.5 inch barrel or 22 inch or a 26 inch and what were the pressures

      It was from a 26 inch barrel, depressions were pretty close to max with that powder

      I know Elmer Keith always used to use 3031 for the 4570 and I believe the 4:58 Winchester magnum
