  • Discussion of MA-020s part compatibility.
    I thought I missed a couple parts up front when I was filming! Forgot to mention that the front camber knuckles, and front tie bar are exclusive to the MA-020 platform and are not universally compatible.

      jeff thompson Awesome, Im glad to hear you are enjoying the videos & thanks for subscribing!
      Don’t worry I have plenty of videos planned :) I need to make a video on my current set up since I have changed some rear end parts + new drift tires, and I want to have that video out before I install the Eagle Racing parts.
      Once I finish with videos on the MA-020 platform, I want to pick up the MA-030 so I can do a similar series on that car. I plan to keep this channel going strong for a long time!

    I really enjoy your videos, I got myself a ma020S and one of the newer ma020 initial d ones about a month ago.
    There is not alot of content to be found about the awd mini-z, and if they are they are normaly grip inspired.
    I haven't modified anything on the cars so far besides adding lights, as i'm quite happy how they react straight out of the box.
    But if anything would break, i probably replace it with alu parts. and too see someone take it apart makes things alot easier in the future.
    Your videos have been very informational and super helpfull. Tnx alot and keep it up

    Thanks so much for the video. These are useful info that should be in one place like this.
    To add some more from what I know, the knuckle, upper arm and spring for MA020 are also compatible with MA030.
    Motor clip/heat sink from 010/020 won't work with 030 because the motor mount is different. I think PN will make it for 030 later... hopefully. Moving motor up there to get more air flow doesn't mean it won't get hot.

I would also like more oversteer, I know this is possible but what parts would I need? I want to true up front steering also and I can't find ALUM knuckles if you can help, I want to build as much metal into car as I can or carbon fiber. I’ve watch like 4 videos in a row, I’ve been driving up the wall trying to find more information on the way, I have the AE86 on the way, currently in the mail. Where do you purchase rims and tires. Also looking to purchase lock nuts and ball bearings.

    • @BMR3
      @BMR3  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      jeff thompson I purchase most of my parts through Kenon Hobby since they are in California & have a large selection, or eBay if Kenon doesn’t have it.
      The rims I am using are from the autoscales in the background & I have DS Racing LF4 tires installed. I contacted DS Racing directly to purchase, next Friday’s video is about these tires & I talk about the ordering process :)
      I do recommend metal wheel nuts, I tried to use the plastic ones for as long as possible but they striped out on me when I installed the LF4 tires.
      The MA-020 comes with full ball bearings, unlike the MR series of cars. Are you looking to upgrade the stock ones? I have my eyes on some ceramic ball bearings for my MA-020, but they cost about $100 so I’m saving for that upgrade. I can share the link if you are interested, but honestly ceramic bearings are a ridiculous upgrade for the mini-z at that price. I’m only getting them because I want to max out the upgrades on this car, and make a video about those bearings. Maybe wait until I can review them to see if they are worth it?

      Ma-010 & 020 front end parts are not cross compatible unfortunately. You would have to buy a ma-020SP chassis and swap the parts over. All the parts are the same accept the front end so it’s a direct transfer, you just have to get all the 020 front parts that go with it.

      @BMR3  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do indeed have a body comparability guid video: th-cam.com/video/3XF_1fJSa5c/w-d-xo.html
      But as a general rule of thumb the ma-020 will fit any body except for 86mm bodies & the LM 102mm or 104mm bodies.
      Anything that is 90mm-98mm will fit on the 020, that’s the beauty of that chassis & a major reason why it holds such a found spot in my heart.
      Anyways good to see ya Chuck! Hope you had a merry Christmas & have a happy new year!

    Hi! I was quite invbested into the mini z rc hobby in the early 2014's. I own an lightly modified Ma010. Mostly driveshaft, motor and diff are upgraded. I want to get some aluminium hop up parts. I know the front ends of the ma010 and 020 are different, but could I buy both the top and bottom plates and suspension arms and fit it to my 010? basically converting it into an 020. I cracked my main chassis and finding a replacement for something that ancient was difficult. Would be cool to know if the chassis mounting holes are also the same so some conversion can be done. That being said, great video! good to know my rear can be upgraded with ma020 parts! thanks!

    • @BMR3
      @BMR3  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey man, thank you for the support & kind words! I’m not 100% sure but I would think you could convert the 010 front end to a 020.
      I know for a fact the tie bar, camber knuckles, suspension arms + pins, suspension springs, differential cover + bottom plate are all different from the 010. But if you got all these parts, I don’t see why they wouldn’t drop in.
      The differentials are the same, and that part of the chassis would have to be the same to accommodate the differential, so I think if you did buy all the parts, it should be a straight forward conversion.
      But like I said, I don’t know for sure. Maybe ask around on the Facebook groups, I’m sure someone else has tried this.

    @JamesGeiger23 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So how do you tell whether a bodyshell/bodyset is going to fit on your MA-020 or whether it's OK to put it on there in the first place? I'm asking since I was just looking at all the different bodies you can get on eBay and they don't always say what chassis the bodyshell goes with. Just ordered the Initial D FD3S by the way. I'm super excited to have some fun indoors.

    • @BMR3
      @BMR3  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      90% of bodies will fit the ma-020 (it’s special that way), the only bodies that do not fit are the LM & van bodies since they are over 100mm+ wheel bases. Also you need to watch out for 86mm bodies but those are incredibly rare so you don’t have to worry about that.
      So the rule of thumb when looking for a body is to make sure it’s either 90mm, 94mm or 98mm, so long as it one of those wheel bases you can make it fit on the ma-020. Once you confirmed the wheel base, check the body width, there are two types W for wide & N for Narrow. The ma-020 comes with a narrow front end stock, so if you want to use a wide body you will need to get parts to covert the front end.
      Final thing to check is the wheel offset, but that comes later. Sometimes a body will come with RWD rims & sometimes AWD rims, but keep in mind they are not cross compatible, so if you buy a RWD body then you will need to get AWD rims in a matching offset to fit your ma-020.
      It sounds more complicated then it is, you just need more exposure to the hobby & you will pick it up in time.

      Hello good sir,
      Yes the Toyota will work with the ma-020 you have. You just need to adjust the wheel base, you do this by unscrewing the rear ended & sliding it forward to the front holes.

Do you know if that particular body needs a specific chassis and radio combo. I found a FD3S and the R33 I think you have. It looks like its the same as the one I want. You can get the Impreza WRC 2008 in RTR kits that come with a chassis & controller, so you will be all set.
      For the R33, it’s the same wheel base as the Impreza so to use them on the same chassis, the only part you need to change out is the front clip & use the rims the R33 comes with.
      The FD3S is a shorter wheel base, but it’s still compatible with the chassis. All you need to do is adjust the wheel base to 90mm, change the front clip & use the rims the FD3S comes with.

Since my posting I found there is also another chassis, the MA-030EVO it lists the WRX STI MZP440BL as compatible with it as well. The AWD Sport manual lists however the chassis doesn't have a LL pinion which is needed for the 98LL wheel base size the WRX is. Correct me if i am wrong, but it doesn't specify if you need to buy the pinion separately or if comes with it even though it not on the manual anyways. I will buy the body and update when I can here in case anyone also is wanting to know about the WRX too.

      If you want to use the ma-020 with 98mm you will need the LL spur gear & LL mounting bracket. Check the discription of this video for link to those parts: th-cam.com/video/3XF_1fJSa5c/w-d-xo.html

      @@BMR3 Well I am not sure about the chassis. Because its at least $200 for any I see right now. The other choice is new MA-030EVO without a radio and receiver. The MA-030EVO will allow (I heard) for brushed and brushless setup that the MA-020 doesn't. So it makes it a harder decision because its ugraded for that and can downgrade if need be.
      I have never seen these Mini-Zs before and thought they were like model cars but i have been researching quite a bit since i am getting more interested in them but have no idea how the upgrades cost or work and is it worth it vs the RTR versions. For now if I do get anything right now, it will be the body of the WRX/ STI only. No chassis, no radio or anything as there is alot to consider on parts and upgrades I don't know about both chassis overall. I feel i should really know both before jumping on one vs the other.
      I own a regular HPI RS PRO2 the previous owner sold me the car I like it and made my own body paint for it but...i can rarely find any parts for it if they break. If I choose an older model (MA-020) vs the new one (MA-030EVO) and something breaks, could it happen that I will find myself limited on parts too?

    • @BMR3
      @BMR3  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nice, it sounds like you are carefully thinking about the choices before purchasing. Smart. Just getting the STI body you want is a great idea since the bodies sell out very quickly, so a shell that you can get for $50 bucks right now, will increase to around $100 next year when it’s sold out...
      Keep researching & watch all the videos you can on the two chassis’s so you make sure you get the correct one for you. The MA-030EVO is the superior platform, but it’s much more expensive ($350-400 at the cheapest). The ma-030 also has limited body compatibility due to the high position of the motor mount, but that said I believe it works with the STI.
      Regarding upgrade parts, dont worry too much about it. The ma-030 shares a lot of the same parts with the ma-020, for example the rear ends are the same, differentials, swing arms, camber knuckles, & suspension arms are all the same as well. You should be able to find upgrades no problem, even in a few years, the 020 is still very popular & im sure more parts will be produced.

    Got a MA 020 RX7 FC Initial D version couple of weeks back, and have since been watching your videos. Just really sad that these information is not readily available anywhere. I've already modded and experimented with some things. Currently running a R32 gunmetal body. I've purchased a MA 010 body too(Alfa Brera), and had no trouble fitting it on. Though I'm curious if any of the MR series bodies can fit on the MA020 chassis? I do want the 911 GT3 XD. Thank you for making these videos!

      Nice car choice! Yeah it is kinda sad that there is little info out there, and the people who know(forum users, etc.) don’t make post discussing the topic of compatibility. That’s the whole reason I started this channel, there is little information regarding ma-020 & drift mini-z & I got frustrated when doing research. So I have decided to share all the info & experience I have gathered, with the hopes this channel will help the community.
      Many, if not most bodies are compatible with the MA-020. I’m 95% the 911 body will work without issue, but there is a page on Kyosho’s website that says for sure what bodies will work. I have a link to that page, but I’m traveling now so I will try to respond later with that link. I need to retrieve it from my laptop.

      @@BMR3 I may have come across it XD I think it's the cars between 90-94mm wheelbases? Definitely would enjoy more of your videos :D, it's quite hard to come by, and I'm not really able to find any awd Mini Z focused groups. Are there any particular forum I can frequent? I usually dig around reddit and some of the Facebook communities but most of them just do grip racing.

    Hey Brother, how r u? so, I need a Huge help to save my ma010, the chassis is broken and I can`t find any part available to buy. do you know what parts that I need to converto to ma020?

      Oh man that’s a rare chassis, I just did a quick search & you are right, it’s impossible to find the ma-010 chassis....
      As far as converting to a ma-020, I know the rear end is 100% compatible & it’s a direct transfer. Same goes for the motor, gears, differentials & swing arms. The main issue you might run into would be the electronics, if you have ASF then your fine, but if you are using the original crystal style then you will be out of luck.
      Aside from that, you will also need the front differential plates (top & bottom), as well as a new set of steering knuckles & suspension arms (might need to pick up pins for the arms, not sure if that’s included with the suspension arms).
      Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any further questions & good luck!! 🍀👍

      You got lucky bro! Nice, it should be a straightforward chassis transfer (like in my 020sp chassis conversion series) once you have all the updated 020 front end parts
