What year truck did the trans come out of? I have a 96 gmc 1500 with 4.3 and was curious what year trucks I could use to go in place of mine with all same sensors plugs ect... thanks good info

Hi ,Reverse lights doesnt work ,I have a truck 98 GMC sierra ,The reverse shift dont turn on the switch on reverse , The switch is new and i can turn on the reverse lights manually pressing the switch but when install the switch into the gear box my shiffter dont press the switch inside ,and reverse light dont come on ,Do you know why Thanks
The reverse/5th fork has a nub that pushes in the plunger in the switch...... I'm in the same situation.... The nub broke in my son's S10 and it's somewhere in the transmission. I've been contemplating doing a full rebuild... Doi g my googaloo and TH-cam research right now.
just question for anyone that knows. I have a 2003 nv3500 4x4. after install it shifts very hard from 2-3, sometimes when I pull it out of 3 something gets hung up and the shifter will not move left to right in the shifter gate until you jiggle it for a while and you hear something release... everyone think this needs shift forks replaced? this happens with engine on or off and clutch in or out ... it has grinded a little also sometimes going into 3 so maybe dragging clutch? but it does not do it into any other one. just 3
Anyone know if I can swap my busted nv3500 housing that came out of a 97 ram 1500 4x4 and use a Chevy housing for a project truck? Or anyone know where i could get just a housing for any applications?
Does anyone know why these input shaft gears strip out like this? I pulled mine apart and the input and countershaft gears were stripped... any info on why?
Where you able to get it into gear at all while engine was running. I just dumped 8 grand into a pickup that sat 10 years. Whole clutch system is new and I'm really to pull it back out and have it rebuilt. Mine will go into gear when engine is Off, I'm able to start it and when releasing the clutch it pulls. But will not go into gear when running what so ever, but it won't grind just extreamly stiff

Did you replace input shaft bearing ? Can it be replaced without taking front case off?
My transmission doesn’t engage 2nd gear it does engage 1st 3rd 4th and 5th and reverse any pointers on what I need to do to make 2nd gear to engage?

Suppose to use synchromesh oil, gm, pennzoil, royal purple etc they all make one for synchro

Looks like someone who didn't know how to drive a manual used the starter to get it moving or it was used in daily burnout contests...
It was abused for sure!
What's the difference between NV3500 and MG5?
Looks to be the same transmission to me. 1987 these transmission where called Muncie Gear.

There’s different types of NV 3500s the MG five has longer shifting time between first and second the M 50 has a shorter shift from 1st to 2nd

I am having a similar problem with mine( Dodge nv3500) but mine only has 4th gear any idea what that is... Also makes a noise let me a rod knock
Does it not move when in 4th?
@@doughknuts yes that's the only way it will move... Had to limp it 50 miles home leaving it in 4th and stating off with the starter

I am not sure but I do believe there is a difference in the chevy and dodge housing.

In my case the prior owner never checked fluid levels and it had no gear oil in it. It requires a special tool to take the plugs out.
