- Just a couple tips on putting your NV 3500 back together. I was worried about not being able to do it without a jig but it is definitely possible to do it. I rebuilt the transmission with new bearings and synchros.
Great video! And clever approach on your part!
Thanks! With the help of other videos I was able to build the courage to do it. Still holding up 1500 miles later. Saved a lot of money as well. The rebuild kit cost $117
Making a jig , if you have a table, makes it easier for the reverse counter gear. Just need a piece of all thread
Great job man,my nv3500 feels like it’s bound between 2 gears,supposedly rebuilt but won’t take a gear
Thank you sir 👏great video 📹 👍
Thank you for a excellent video
It’s not near excellent, but I’m glad it could help you some.
You showed the most important aspects. Of the disassembly and assembly. Looked at 5 video yours was the only one with clear details
Might be a stupid question but is this a dodge trans right?
@@samuellarden8776 yes it is similar to a dodge trans, but the dodges have a different bell housing. Wikipedia says the NV3500 is shared with both vehicles but when I went to the junk yard and spotted one in a dodge, it was a different bell housing. Probably same internals.
Do you have part number for the rebuild kit? Or link?

I used this website. Just pick the year of your transmission. My kit had a lot of extra parts (retaining rings, gasket, key and spring balls. Keep all your old parts until your completed cause you might need one or two along the way!
What about the 3-4 fork??
How's the transmission running? I'm on my 6th behind a 5.7 and tired of paying for used ones.
It’s still going good. It’s behind a LS1 5.7L. With 10k on it. I don’t do any super fast high speed shifting. So it should be good for a while. What’s happening to your transmissions?
@@n3spitzkopf they start grinding and I was losing gears. The last one I had had a mass vibration in 5th gear and slightly in 4th at high rpms, it would shake the shifter so violently that it was unbearable to hold. I then finally lost 5th gear after doing it so many times now, it just does it slightly in higher rpms in fourth. It dynos around 330 on a mustang dyno in torque on a l31 vortec I'm using the 96-99 S10 nv3500. I've been using it for over a year now off and on no issues small trips I just don't have 5th gear.
@@n3spitzkopf Hey man Im having trouble getting the 2 halves back together they are close but something stopping them from coming completely together does something have to be perfectly lined up or something? I had to take it apart because the reverse idler support fell off and i dropped a bolt on the inside other than that I didn't take anything else off just took out a bunch of bolts.
Yes they have to be lined up perfectly for it to go together again. Don’t give up on it!
@@n3spitzkopf Well I was messing with it last night I noticed the little tiny spring thats inside the shifter fork no clue what the actual name is bent to hell and kept popping out so I got to get one of those but man it's overwhelming I keep feeling like I messed it up don't want to throw it back together But ill replace that little spring and see what she does lol
In your opinion would you use Lucas Stop Slip on an NV transmission?
No. Since it's a manual there's nothing slipping. It's all gears unlike an auto trans where there are multiple clutch packs.
A better choice would be lucas oil stablizer, the synchromesh fluid is quite thin and since it takes a little more than 2 litres(quarts), instead of buying a third bottle to finish refilling mine I topped it with the lucas oil stablizer, it is quite thick but it really hangs on to gears to coat them
@@kellismith4329 I agree. You can use a little bit of thicker oil mixed to help lessen some noise. But if you are using thicker oil to help with slipping you have another problem: clutch slipping.
Tips and tricks on assembly???? After you put it together? Poor!!!!!’
Sorry the video didn’t help you out my friend.
