The "second chance" angle is how I view part 2. I really wish that game was edited differently (that's probably the biggest problem), and they should have added more to the ending. I picture Ellie meeting Tommy. He serves her a beverage from Joel's owl mug. As she looks at the mug, she has flashes of Abby carrying Lev. For the audience, it's to be followed by Joel carrying Ellie in the same way. By the sound of the splash of fluids in the mug, she sees Joel in a pool of blood followed by Abby being drowned. Then Tommy asks, "What happened?" We see a flash of Ellie on the operating table with the doctor holding the scalpel next to her, followed by Lev laying in the boat with her knife to his throat. Ellie replies, "I saved her." People had the wrong impression on the "revenge is bad" message. She didn't stop because she thought Joel wouldn't have gone this far. She stopped because she realized she would have taken Abby from Lev and inflicted that same pain onto him that she and Abby held. That's just ONE of the thoughts she could have had in that moment.
The other thing I would have is recognition that Ellie already got revenge. She killed EVERYONE Abby cared about, except for Leah and Manny (although Tommy killed manny, but same difference). Of course, it’s not the revenge Ellie wanted, but it caused Abby infinitely more pain than whatever Ellie could do to her.
Bruce Straley's also, apparently he was behind certain changes which led to what we know as the first game. Apparently Neil had written Joel to die off earlier than he did.
I felt the second game was perfectly paced. I went in blind, I ignored the bandwagon of hate/the percieved politics and had the best single player gaming experience I've ever had.
This ISN’T a shot for shot remake of the game. We aren’t going to have shoot out after shout out. Sure, the school was an awesome shoot out, it wasn’t necessary for the show to have fire fight after fire fight. Game adaptations that have been non stop action have all failed. This is an emotionally driven game. Shoot out after shoot out is fine in a game. You are controlling the character. If it was done live action, it will feel like any other over the top action tv show. It didn’t matter that we didn’t get the Bill and Ellie interaction. We may find out about the “favor” Bill owed Joel. My guess is it was the wire for the fence. It was still standing and wasn’t corroded in 2023. At the end of this episode, Joel and Ellie have a vehicle and are on their way to find Tommy. That’s right where they were at the end of the game interaction with Bill. Games and TV are two different mediums. As long as the emotional story of Joel and Ellie are there, a missed shoot out or several, doesn’t matter.
Yea I’d agree that we don’t necessarily need a 1 to 1.. but those key relationships need to be fleshed out as well as they were in the game. IMO the little interactions help alot.. Quick example off the top of my head was when Ellie found Bill’s adult magazine in the game.. even though she’s not his daughter you see Joel get kinda concerned and he tries to get her to stop looking at it.. that’s one of the first times you see a more human/parental side to him.

In the game it was eluded to. The show devoted an entire episode to Bill and his partner Frank and the life they had. Because of this, we may or may not get the porno mag dialogue from the game. While it was funny, it wouldn’t serve the same purpose in the show as it did in the game. I like how they are doing surgical addition and subtractions to the story as needed. Everything from the game doesn’t need to be in the tv show. If the story can be fleshed out in a different way, fine. So far, I haven’t missed the things that aren’t there. Will I be happy that the scene with Ellie and Joel and the magazine might not be shown. No. But it also doesn’t upset me if it’s not there either.
For sure… overall I agree with u though. I’m curious to see what little changes they make and how they continue developing the different characters.. there’s alot of potential
The three shot comparison of Ellie, from PS3, PS4, and PS5, I have to ask does anyone notice any difference between the graphics of the PS3 and PS4 version? I don't see it, so I'm just curious if anyone else did.
i think with this 5 chapters we now have we can really trust the directors on this series, after all they are great and Neil is helping with the direction, AND the actors too, Bella and Pedro make an awesome job at interpreting their roles, there was a lot of complain with how Bella looked, but after seeing her act as the role of Ellie i really think she is the one fit for the role, she just bring Ellie to life
I think that the upside-down scene should have been in the show, as well as a bloater making an appearance in the show. If they don’t put David(weird creepy cannibal leader) in the show I’m gonna be mad.

They entangle what is right with what feels good emotionally. Kind of like how a villain does not see themselves as evil or bad, but a hero instead and vice versa.

I want to rant a bit about The Last of Us universe. There is no cure for a fungal infection. If you get a fungal infection in your lungs, you will have it for the rest of your life. Secondly, The Last of Us universe only exists because of the blatant tribalism between people. It's the you vs us mindset that doesn't work in survival. That's why they're losing to the infected. Neanderthals had this mindset and ask them where they're at. That's just not how humans work. Because at the end of the day, you're going to need stuff I have and I'm going to need stuff you have. That opens up trading which is the center for civilization. You can't feed hundreds of people by just hunting for your food (fishing too). You will end up killing all the game in the area and you will need to walk for days before being able to hunt another animal. This means there are farmers. Where are they? Nearby? I doubt that since there isn't much good farmland near Boston. This means there are traders carrying food. Hell, even in the show Joel says one city makes bullets and medicine. You can't survive off that so they're trading with other quarantine zones for food and other resources. How have you not built up a sprawling civilization in twenty years? I get it that the initial outbreak was too fast to stop or slow down. Just my rant for now
I think I know, where this story is going.... I'm excited, I can't wait for it to blow up in a big way. It may become a catalyst for an entire paradigm shift in society, once it catches fire... Hint: It's about an uglyness, that so far had to be hidden, in many ways parallel to what has been going on with the various iterations of Star Wars since '77 up until today.
I believe we should evolve the concepts of capitalism for modern times but socialism itself if it's the primary economic system will lead to the destruction and tyranny of society. We could only take some ideas of socialism that are beneficial for society as a whole but disregard the primitive ideologies that hope to keep society from progressing.

Joel should have put Mankind first, even if it was a million to one chance that the experiment on Ellie would have work. The survival of the species trumps another 10-20 years of happiness with Ellie. He should have left her with the fireflies and took his pistol to the washroom!

it’s the lightning. Some add ons are also added in the environment. The lightning of the game also changed.

Ps4 remaster wasnt needed its literally a 60fps port same textures and lighting
I'd say it's still nice that the game is available on all modern Playstations, gives more people the chance to experience this gem.
There's a lot of people that don't own a PS3 which is why they did it.
