Hi John, before finding your channels in the lockdown I did some research on trim restorers. I have indeed purchased a couple of the 30mm Solution Finish bottles thinking they would be no good. The trick is when doing a good wash to quick wipe over to with the product to bring the depth back. Works well in engine dressing too. Thanks Markas
its good this product marcus. its gets mixed reviews but Ive seen how this product compares with like 20 other trim restorers in one of the PVD mega tests and it did great.
I’ve just used a very very small amount of patination oil on the plastic trim of my Honda crv, it completely turned the plastic trim back to the original colour. I immediately coated it with meguiars plastic trim restorer to ensure the patination oil was diluted asap. So far the two panels haven’t shown any degradation due to using a solvent on them. I’ve left it for now to see if there’s any issues as patination oil is for use with lead flashing. The amount of patination used was a cloth put over the bottle top and wetted with the oil, tbh you could probably use less. If the solvent is ok for the plastic the one bottle would literally last a lifetime
Topping Solution Finish with a coating such as Gtechniq C4 after 24 hours (and after panel wiping) gives great results on trim that's notoriously difficult to bring back from faded grey. Some old Minis and Hondas benefit from this where a trim coating alone is ineffective.
Great content as always. Any chance of using one product as a sort of yardstick for future tests? It would be good to see any new product/s compared against a known constant. Great to see our product in action Jon. It's got me thinking about another product that we have which is relevant for you for interior trim measurement, details to follow...
Solution finish is so easy to apply and level. It didn't caused any issue on painted surfaces, just wiped off with a microfiber after the application to remove it. And results were really good for the plastic it was applied to. 10 years old motorcycle with 100k miles, never protected and always sits outside all year long. 6 months later you can still see a big difference between test spot and unprotected plastic. I think having the combo good plastic dressing (carpro pearl diluted 1:1 or 1:5 for me) to protect and enhance on a daily basis, and a trim restorer which is more of a special product, used on restoration of really trashed pieces. For a non profesionnal, i would buy the small bottle. You would have to do a lot of car to use the 1oz before it goes bad (because most detailing product go bad after a few years). It really spreads a lot, and lasts 6 months on worst scenario. Last thing, these products react differently depending on the type of plastic in my opinion. Some would look like new after the application, some would look better or slightly better.
I have got the Britemax restorer, not sure if I'm just not applying it correctly but the first time it rains after I have applied it I get an oily residue wash off the trim and down the paintwork.
Hi Jon, have you tried & tested the solution finish over the top solution? I'm guessing it acts like a sealant( ceramicesq) for solution finish . Cheers for any info/advice
Hi john my son has just bought a hyundai I30n and the vinyl outer door trims have faded dull grey, what do you recommend to use to bring them back looking good again?
England does not get the extreme heat as we do in australia and the arizona desert or the UAE or other really hot places like Western australia or northern territory for example over 45 degree C days?
Looks like he took my advice, with the reference idea, when checking with the various hi end measuring metes ,you need a reference point to measure and then test various panels, plastic etc. :) like brand new plastic shiny surface, rough surface and oxidized surfaces etc etc. :) Cheers keep up the great work champ, hello from australia. :)
Do you recommend any products to protect the exterior plastics on a brand new car? I’m picking up my new car soon and it has some black plastic around the low level areas of the car and wasn’t sure what to go for.
A bit late now but I wonder what a second coat would have improved the longevity if applied, say, 2 weeks after the initial coating. This can also improve tyre blackness as the rubber tends to be patchy after just one coat of dressing. I'm old school and the dreaded Armor All used to need 2 coats at least. After that a single light spray did the job.
I think almost certainly yes, in fact solution finish talk about this. but it really lasted well this product. in this test at least. the surface you treat can play a roll
Used Solution Finish for ages but I’d like a product just as good but with a better package application. Thanks John for pointing me in the direction of Britemax I’m going to give it a try. Once you’ve knocked over a bottle of Solution you want something safer to use 😂
Another great video, but I thought the test missed the point, which is which one looks the best after 7 months. Do we really care what a light meter records, surely it’s more about how each product results looks to the human eye..
Another brilliant video mate, should do a video on windows steaming up in this winter if possible, I do use my ac, changed the pollen filter, used rain x anti fog which is absolutely pants. Anything will be useful thank you 🙏
dont clean it :) When you clean it down with glass cleaner and remove all the breath and grease film build up. its mists up a lost worse :) you can use an anti fog but I dont think you can ever full stop it.
Figure out where the moisture is coming from. Yes it’s damp and cold, but a cracked window is usually enough to stop steaming up. If it happens to an extreme degree, or immediately when you get in your car, there’s a good chance you’ve got a water leak in to the cabin. Different cars have different known problems so you’ll have to google that yourself. If you run your AC, be sure to turn it off, turn the heat right down and then vent your cabin with the window open for the last 10 minutes of your journey otherwise you’re leaving all the moisture on the condenser. This usually evaporates up through your vents and fills the car due to latent engine heat once you park up. A 1kg bag of reusable silica will help too.

Have you done a video on stripping the paint. I left some wash and wax to dry in the sun and it's left residue everywhere. I know I should not have left it but thinking about using Maguire's wash plus. Or something stronger to strip everything off and start again.
use a pure abrasive finishing polish to strip it off. nice soft pad.. one very quick fast set like 1/4 of a bonnet at a time 30-60 second set. Do entire car in 30 mins. Degrease... done. hitting it chems wont strip it. You can just leave it and it will slowly wash and erode off the car.

@@simonwhalley1743 pretty much exactly the same here too. The only difference is, if the plastic is very badly faded, I will heat it gently for a while first. Also found this is a brilliant technique for tyres. Heat them, treat them with whatever tyre dressing you use (for me thats Perl or Fireball) heat them gently again to dry out the dressing and keep the tyre warm, apply another coat of dressing, let that dry naturally for a while then buff back gently. I get literally almost ceramic levels of water repellency on the tyres then and the coating last for bloody ages!
@@gaycha6589 I tend to use a heat gun and just be very careful with distance and making sure I dont keep it in one spot too long. A hairdryer will work too, but take longer to heat. But it is safer though. The idea though is infrared drying lamps, such as those used to speed the curing process for ceramic coatings.
Hi Jon, I'm noticing that on the rear section of the bumper where you applied these products, pin holes in the surface which would indicate that the black section has been painted. Is it possible you've put trim restorer over paint rather than actual raw plastic ? I can't see how raw plastic can have those pinholes unless it's been painted. I come from a painting background and I can bet that it's been painted, and a bit hastily too. Pin holes are from silicon contamination and the surface wasn't properly prepped before application.

@@simonrichardson9121 you can select 1oz of 12oz on that website, thats both the sizes. You have to use the drop down box mate.
@@ForensicDetailing dark mode on my phone can't see the drop box highlighted 🤦♂
GTechniq C4. End of. Discussion over.
Great darkening effect, most natural looking and longest lasting.
I’m with you on that. I use C4 for properly faded plastics to bring them back to new and then use carpro perl for maintaining less faded stuff.
Have you tried putting Moonlight on after solution finish dried/cured?
no I have not tried this I may try who knows.
Thank you very much for the review John!:)
Hope you don’t do any carpentry, if you think that masking tape was in the middle! Lol. Great video anyway. You’re the best Jon!
haha:) there was a reason though I wanted both sides to have some of the pitted texture to deal with. the right side was in better condition.
Do these products work on grey exterior plastics?
no mate but theres a grey verison of solution finihs.
Im not sure Tony, its either painted or the surface is breaking down. But the SF and Trim max did a great job.
It would have been fun to compare Solution finish to Carpro Dlux
Why not enigma corona use it as a paint sealant as well
just so I could get this comment :) how you doing hakim :)
@@ForensicDetailing I’m good you? Enigma corona lasts quite a long time as well it’s really good on the paint get that insane beading from it
Do you have Wipe New in the Uk and if you do, what do you think of it?
not heard mate sorry,
Brilliant J
Sir I admire your dedication your passion and methadology. Really love your escoteric insight! Subscrbed and commented!
What is it with been first all the time ? it’s like child’s play .
Great vid Jon 👍🏻 once again . Now where is your Santa hat or you been a ba humbug 🤣🤣🤣👍🏻🤣
Another great review well done & thank you 👍🏻
There's a product available on ebay as "black pearl" which seems like a clone of solution finish. The genuine stuff is probably better but it's hard to get on this side of the pond at a reasonable price. The ebay cheapy stuff seems to work pretty well though, I've had some on my car since summer and it hasn't noticeably faded since.
I use solution finish and love it.
How do you think Perl would have compared to these two?
I think it would have maybe lasted 2-3 months not sure though.
Ha, I used Eagle 1 tire trim spray gel on my black trim last week just to see if it would work and it was awesome. Bought it for 5$ at Ross.
Dear John sir, can i use some help? i tried to order Pro detailer issue 10 magazine with the trim test results but i have problems caused from Convid in our country to receive it. Can you remember how Polytrol plastic restorer performed vs solution finish and britemax??
SF is better and getting it black again, I dont think trim max was in the test. Polytrol is more like an oily condition than a "blackener" good product though.
@@ForensicDetailing thanks sir yes i agree polytrol is very different product i just wanted your opinion for its longevity. I use them both in case by case scenario. Great video sir. Much love from Greece
@@Mdetailing I got bad results with polytrol on really texture plastic bumper. And the application was a nighmare, really oily and sticky, should really be applied to plastic with tape around the piece especially if there's painted surfaces around.
Solution finish is so much easier to apply and level.
It really spread a lot, and last 6 months on worst scenario.
Last thing, these products react differently depending on the type of plastic in my opinion. Some would look like new after the application, some would look better or slightly better.
@@TerrificFlow thanks sir for the feedback i really appreciate it. My kind regards
Nice test. I find faded trims the most annoying of all things to clean and tidy up to make the car look decent.
Might have to look at getting one of these. I use insta finish trim magic which is like gtechniq trim coating
Labocosmetica bottles in the background!
looks like you're rear diffusor is painted plastic and it gone lose or flaking at the bottom? either way, nice test :)
Where can we buy that?
Valet pro's black 2 the future for me 😀
Cheers looks to me like trim max pound for pound is the better product
Could you use these on tyres or no? Silly question?
I dont think so no mate. but its a good quesiton. like Im sure you "could" but its just not what its designed for.
DLux, Cerakote, and ceramics work best.
Can this product be used on plastic inside the car ?
I dont think you are supposed to do this no.
@@ForensicDetailing thank you 🙏
Would love to buy that 330ci club if your selling
sorry mate. its sold already as I type this Im waiting for the buyer to arrive to pick it up.
@@ForensicDetailing aww no problem man keep up the good work
Where's Humberto?
haha that guys like first on every channel not just mine.
Jon, great video as usual. Do you, or any fellow subscribers, know whether there are grey specific products such as the black ones reviewed here? I’ve tried the clear G Tecnik trim restore with reasonable results but not on every trim part, Carpro Perl too but longevity is not good. Any thoughts gratefully received.
solution finish do a grey version of the product its called fusion i think. Imran sells it at in2detailing i think.
@@ForensicDetailing Thanks for taking the time to answer Jon, I appreciate it.
Solution Finish also do a grey one
Love the Solution Finish. A little goes a very long way.
I’ve heard a couple of people dismiss it, but is the plastic is prepared and cleaned properly with an IPA then it lasts for ages.
Completely different product to a true ceramic coating such as Gyeon Trim or Carpro Dlux, but it certainly does the job and is very user friendly 👍🏼
CeraKote has my vote
Turtle wax wet n black is really good for the cheap
The cheap what
Solution finish is my fave. I haven’t bought trim restore in a long time though
John, does this info still stand up after 3 years or is there a new kid on the block? Thanks
yer its still a decent option mate.
@@ForensicDetailing cheers 👍
Solution Finish amazing product.
A cheaper version is Car Plan Trim Wax. For the price it does the a good job.
Do you think applying beadmaker on this once it has dried would be a good match ?
hmm no. I would not dressing over this product. Ive not actually tried it but I would just leave the product only really.
Why did you not use our product
Meguair Ultimate cleaner
Gyeon trim, great darkning effect and log term protection.
Whit the small bottle(30ml) you go a long way.
It's Black Pearl why no Black Pearl trim and tyre armour
No nasty chemicals or solvents
And it's less money
In our testing lasts much longer than the others
your website does not work tom, Im saying this to help not to critise.. go to mad for detailing then click Exterior then like wheel and tyres of engine bay (doesnt matter). Just throws up a long error regardless of what I select. I went through every link presented to me on page 1 of google when I search for black pearl trim and tyre armour and I cannot find anyone selling the product, even all the amazon links are out of stock.
Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Class 'FacebookAds\Object\ServerSide\UserData' not found in /chroot/home/a95
@@ForensicDetailingHi thanks for the reply the error is a FB app we are trying to add which is causing errors on our product pages and categories pages as for stock we are now out of stock and waiting for a new formula which should slightly less money and improve the durability this why amazon is showing no stock
as you say in your video the strong solvent scent with both products is not good, but with BP you won't get any of nasty smell as its only water and polymer-based we hope to new stock to come early next year
Try cera trim it's the dogs danglies
For me solution very economy.Les going long
Theirs a shot ton...the best is the one I make for my personal .use no need to waste 💰 on shit company's ...that b.s if u want the best make it your self 🗣️🗣️😭🤣🕵️🤡👀💪💯
Are you wearing a bra...
I love solutions finish and from what I see Cerakote is the new stuff because it protects as a Ceramic coating
