I've used wipe new in the bottle and solution finish on my vehicross and it all depends on your personal preference if you'll want a satin finish or shine. But wipe new still going strong.
r.e. Cerakote, what happens if you get it on the painted panel that the plastic trim is attached to? Is it necessary/advisable to mask off the painted surface?
I used the old version of Wipe-New when it was still in a little bottle. It worked great and lasted as long as I had the truck. I used it on an old Ford Escape with VERY faded charcoal plastic bumpers. I like the little bit if shine it leaves behind.
Yeah, that's what I used and it has lasted 7 years on most of my trim. The shiny trim by my windows didn't last that long but most of the trim was not the shiny plastic and has lasted 7 years. The owners of Cerakote, NIC Industries, convinced a jury that they supplied Wipe-New with their original formula until they ended that agreement in 2017 and then Wipe-New reverse engineered a copy. So maybe Cerakote is the old version you and I both had good results with.
Wish people that are doing product reviews would actually follow the manufactures instructions, instead doing what think is a better way to apply product. I would think that the company tested several ways of applying the product, and chose the best way.. FOLLOW the INSTRUCTIONS.
EXACTLY! This is a big problem especially with the WipeNew which is NOT a coating at all. You have to apply these things EXACTLY as the instructed and don't make assumptions and do anything else. I've been using WipeNew for a few years and it works the best and lasts longest when you follow the instructions to the letter including NOT exposing it to direct sunlight for the period of time it mentions in the instructions. I think Josh here means well but he's not aware of how he completely sabotaged his own test. That's why you have to really pat attention to all these TH-cam comparison videos. Most people doing these tests don't know how to do a truly objective scientific comparison and most viewers are oblivious to what they're doing wrong and why the test results are meaningless.
I already messed up one panel on my jetski because that buffing was not mentioned in the instructions! Thanks for mentioning that man! At least other panels now I will do correctly.
I don't think the Cerakote got a fair shake. That whole side was buffed when the instructions did not say to buff. I wonder how much better it would have looked if left to cure the way the manufacturer intended? I wonder how much product got removed by the towel?
The wipe new looks blotchy and streaky. The cerakote looks natural, and just a better overall appearance. The cerakote looks easier to apply as well. I want my plastic trim to look “renewed”, not like someone doused it in armor all. Cerakote for me.
Nice Video Josh, and you resisted wiping it level Lol , I think it all depends on the look you want Cerakote seems Matt where Wipe New is a simi gloss finish , I’ve used Wipe New in the past works great and it lasts for a couple years if not more , I overlapped it as well with no problems, it’s pretty cool they have these products that last and they don’t just wash out like a dressing does , One and done baby !!
Great video! Thanks for posting. I'm a frequent user of the Cerakote Trim Restorer, but have to admit that I prefer the glossier look of the Wipe New Black Trim Restorer more. Will be using the Wipe New going forward.

All of these trim restorers work well. I've been wanting to try Cerakote, I hear great things. I have used Adam's, Solution Finish, and Cera Trim by TLC. I found that Solution Finish out lasted Adam's and Cera Trim🤷♂️.
Great video Josh. The Wipe Nu is the only one of these that I have experience with and I found that the instructions aren’t very good. While it’s still wet, it’s absolutely fine to overlap the Wipe Nu despite their instructions. The smoother the plastic, the more the Wipe Nu will streak so i buff it smooth. Oh and you’re definitely right about the Wipe Nu smell, think DEF 😅
Thanks! I’m interested to see how well wipe new stand up to the rest. I feel Ike the as seen on tv products get a bad wrap but it seems to be handling as well as the others so far
I bought the trim cubes after your first video i wish it was a little cheaper but i have never used something so easy to put on clean and fast i did all the trim and mirrors on f250 it literally look factory when done 👍

Pro tip: I actually used my leftover Cerakote wipes (still have 5 remaining) as cleat-coat for headlights after buffing them. Worked great so far. It has only been 6 weeks and 2 washes though, but if it won't last, I already have the right clear now, so I'll just buff it again and apply the new clear coat.
I never buff the CERAKOTE, it typically levels off on its own. I just put it on a friend's car yesterday and by the time they got home it looked perfect.
I used Cerakote and I should have wipe off the excess because it does leave streaks. Is there a way to buff off the streaks after it has already harden?
I've never used the Cerakot before so I won't comment about it. However, I've used Wipe-New for 14 years on my 2017 Chevrolet Avalanche's exterior and interior plastic trim. And all of the vehicles trim looks amazing. The exterior trim has very little fade or UV damage, and has a very nice semi-gloss finish. The interior trim looks as good as new. My vehicle is not garage kept and considering these hot Georgia summers and sun, that is amazing. I definitely recommend t o anyone who asks me how I keep my trim looking so good. It lasts about 18 -24 months on exterior trim and top of interior dashboard; and for 3 - 4 years on on rest of interior trim. I won't even try anything else.
I prefer the gloss; it’s going to wear over time anyhow, why hasten the aging process? I’ve had great success with Cerakote but love the Lithium cube application concept. Detailers need one of these 4 in their Arsenal since there is so much cladding on newer cars. Thanks for showcasing the best products!
I really, really like Cerakote, but then came the Lithium cubes. There is a big price difference between the two. With that being said, I will use the Cerakote. Great comparison video!
After reading comments I had great expectations of at least a 90% restoration on our 2005 headlight. I carefully followed the video's procedures. Within a few minutes the cloudiness resurfaced. You can barely see the components under the headlight covers. It actually accentuated all the tiny cracks. Under daylight the surface is all fracked making the headlights even worse before using the product! I had applied the step 3 coating in the same speed and manner as the video instructed yet there are noticeable streaks. Do you recommend buying another kit and start over?

@@imjoshv Try mother's back to black trim Cleaner, not restorer. Comes with a black bristle brush. It's a clear gel like substance, you clean the trim with. Gets rid of those pesky water drip spots and stains and anything else that stains the trim. Brings life back to the trim. You can use a non marring scrub pad instead of the brush if you want to, I find the gel falls off the brush and can make a mess or apply the gel with the scrub pad and agitate the gel on the trim with the brush. Wipe clean with microfiber, then apply any trim restorer you prefer. I did this concept recently on my Honda cr-v and then sold the SUV to carvana. It came out like brand new. I used wipe nu as my trim restorer. Hope you find this informative. Keep up the good videos.
Also, if your finding the gel to dry on the trim before you can agitate it with the brush, just spray water and it will reactivate. That's what I recommend.
Another good product comparison. I like the side by side comparisons instead of a one product demo. Since your bringing the black back, How about a comparison on tire dressing products?

Hey Josh, The Cerakote instructions do NOT say to take a towel and wipe off the excess. You're making assumptions about how it works by doing that and probably reducing its effectiveness over time. It's a ceramic coating which should be obvious by its name, Cerakote. It works by putting a protective ceramic layer over the plastic against UV rays and and harsh cleaning agents Regarding WipeNew, you say @ 11:22 that its a coating which is another assumption. I think it's a chemical agent that reacts chemically with the plastic so after applying it you should just leave it alone and NOT wipe off any excess at all. I think that by wiping it when it doesn't instruct you to do that reduces the amount of chemical on the surface so it wont go as deeply into the surface of the degraded plastic as it could. I think that wiping it after application will reduce its longevity. Again, WipeNew is NOT a surface coating. You can tell it's not a surface coating by how fast those wipes evaporate. It's very volatile. I don't think any of the WipeNew remains on the treated surface at all after it has completely dried. It reacts with the plastic then evaporates with no trace! That's why you should follow the directions exactly and to the letter and DON'T make any assumptions. If it doesn't instruct you to wipe off any excess then don't do it!
Two quick observations, first you wiped off the Cerakot which reduced the amount and the time to penetrate into the plastic and second none of these products contain the most important thing which is a UV protectant. I have used the Cerakot on my 2019 mustang it's been holding up for two months 5 washes and 5 rain storms my only negative comment is I would like more gloss.

Absolutely don't use Cerakote products on your trim if the car is evenly remotely new. They won't tell you this, which is appalling, but it'll wreck trim on a new car. The off gassing will push the coating away from the surface and can't be fixed. There should be a class action lawsuit against the company, no questions asked.

@@davestewart9146 Mother’s Back to Black cream is mildly better than your gramma’s hand cream. Stay away from that one as well. If you see that your trim has gone a bit grey/ white, it’s too far gone for these base-model coatings. Here in this video, all products look much better.
What are those wheels?
how does the Cerakote handle sun damage
Really well. I just did another test with some other products and will be filming the update soon. But cerakote is definitely holding up the best
Good 👍
great video, great job, looks great bro.
Gtechniq C4 is hard to beat.
Obviously you know Hoof-Hearted.😾
But that price isn’t $$
Cerakote DIDN’T impress me. The pads dried out quickly and it took ALL the wipes to do my truck and I could have used more.
As you read the instruction saying to leave on for an hour, you then proceed to wipe it off immediately. Duh.
Guy‘s got some serious ocd
Luckily only when it comes to cleaning
Which one also can be use on rubber trim?
How do you remove the wipe new from glass?
Wipe new used to come with a small fine 2000 grid sand paper to litely buff product off glass.. I never ended up needing to use it
Cerakote won.
Can someone please help!! I applied mine incorrectly and my
Dashboard is all streaky and I cant get off. Can someone please give me some
Help on how to remove it? I used the wipe new
Lesson learned- will never apply without watching a demo video. Any help would be appreciated as I am selling my car
This guy likes to hear himself talk and doesn't seem to want to follow the instructions.
WTF??? Why didn't you follow the actual instructions for the Wipe New???
It's not an accurate comparison between the two products because you didn't follow the instructions, Jeez😢
If you wanted to see if there was a difference between following the instructions or doing it your way, you could have done it in a side-by-side comparison..
I will NEVER use ANY Cerakote product again.
Why?
Them dud to much bla bla bla explaning just do it 😂
i wanna win
Cerakote ate the clear coat on my trim unfortunately.
Dude ur plastic is so sun plaatered wow i think the cerekote juat highlighted the natured wear and sun marks in the plastic makes me wonder if several coats to get those suuupperr faded plastic back to life ... 🤷
Follow the instructions!!! Waste of time
I don’t wanna sit her for 20 mins
Have the boxes open and show how many are in each box
Do a fastforward of u applying it and add effects to it
Showing before and after
NOT a true apples to apples comparison. What you do to one side you MUST do to the other...and you didn't do that.
Less blah, blah, blah talking and more actual demonstrations please.
I set time codes so you can jump ahead!
Nice way to deal with rudeness.

Well... I just treated ALL exterior plastic trim on my brand new Ford Maverick to eliminate fading from sun in Mexico where it probably sat a few months awaiting parts before completion of build. Hopefully I didn't make a mistake trying to treat it myself!
