This is probably the first one of these videos where I've been impressed by what they are doing. Give them a decent welding setup, a plasma cutter and some better tools and they would really fly.
Did you watch the video? And i’am not talking about there setup up, but there weld are not good at all, and did you see over how much rust they painted, i would have grinded all the plates first so there “clean”.
Omg. Did u see how that guy lights his cutting torch. I really don't think that welding is strong. holding a welding rod to metal is welding there's no penetration. That job would never pass quality control.

@@texnaidoo3747 Dude... They're not making OEM parts, they're crafting affordable components from recycled materials, for truckers who can't afford factory stuff. They deserve MASSIVE respect for what they accomplish! I'm sure there are no end of farmers and low-income truck owners all over the world who would LOVE to have access to stuff made in places like this.
@@8-UwU-8 Those quick welds you see are just tacking. You can see later on that he goes back over to finish weld everything. Stick welding mild steel is pretty good at penetrating rust and crap, but wire wheeling of some more rust would definitely have made for a better result.
That is the cleanest and most organized shop of these types I have seen on YT.
One of the most believable also, a lot of these "push a button to make things happen" types clearly have actors in the videos

Respect to all those that commented. Sure these guys work hard. When I went to Pakistan i saw a kid reconditioning a motor bike engine on the street. He was probably 10 or 11 years old. I watched him for 2 hours. He put all parts together and it worked perfect and in pounds he got maybe 14 pounds to do it..

18yr ago I was in vietnam, my rented motorbike blew it piston, push it to the nearest motorbike shop, they took the head out, go to another shop to get rebore, and back fitted new piston in about 2 hour cost £11 i give £4 tip

i love watching these guys build stuff. They’ve got primitive equipment and dirt floors but they work hard and the end product is impressive…considering. I love that they mainly use recycled materials. A lot of modern countries can learn a thing or 2 about recycling from these guys.

У нас нет ни одного крупного производителя узлов и агрегатов в России уровня того же Бош, Паркер, трв и других. а узлы и агрегаты это не запчасти,это отработанные технологии в первую очередь. Тебе,к примеру, чтобы произвести ходовую часть для самоходного сх опрыскивателя с гидростатической трансмиссией хватит одного каталога бош рексрот ,а по России тебе придется 150 заводов обзвонить, чтобы собрать все необходимое. К тому же в случае с бошем у тебя все прекрасно будет работать вместе,а в случае с отечественными компонентами придется все подгонять, тестировать и прочее

There must be a better way to strike a welding arc than looking at it every few seconds without eye protection. The owners of these shops should be ashamed. These workers will go blind while they are still young men. I think this disregard for working men is the reason third world nations remain poverty stricken. 😢😢😢😢😢😢

At 10:00 min. glad to see protective wood not to damage the wall. ;-) but a serious good job! Much respect for all craftsmanship. A pair off dark goggles would also be fine for the cutter anyway

Also somebody tell them a feed of coolant for those drill bits will save them so much hassle, and I never seen the original plasma cutter in my life.

Using the welding spark to light the torch was pretty slick. These guys have some real talent

That’s old hat- any prairie farmer has done that when his striker isn’t handy when making a repair out in the field. What caught my eye was the apparent complete absence of a chipping hammer anywhere on this site- they made do with pieces of scrap, other parts in progress, or in at least one instance, it looked like the guy was using a welding rod as a chipping hammer to remove slag before making another pass. Remarkable work overall, especially given the available technology, and the basic fifth wheel design they are cribbing has been refined enough through the years that there probably aren’t too many potential failure points, but I’m not sure how far I would trust the integrity of any welds which passed over other welds in this assembly. If they aren’t able to remove slag adequately when stick welding, any part of the assembly requiring more than one pass will have porosity problems.
Never realized the amount of parts that went into constructing a fifth wheel. Thank you for that.
The fifth wheels we have here in the US are made differently, that's a primative jaw docking this.

The welds they're making on that press genuinely make me wonder. Boogered up welds don't bode well on heavy machinery
It makes me worry they're not finishing the welds on the 5th wheel. All tack welds and stitch welds. Not to mention not prepping the metal.
Something's not right. China's mass-producing these and they don't make them like this.
That's why these hitches will never see the United States or any other country with high safety standards.

Their use of safety equipment should be commended. Plus all the safety features the press has is unbelievable.
The use of jigs and stencils to save time and get everything aligned correctly and maintain consistent high quality blows my mind. Talk about precision engineering. I'm sure every unit is identical to every other unit produced.

The comments from some people here are hilarious... you watch a master like this man on the internet you say crap about the fact it wouldn't meet your OEM requirement like this has to do with anything going on here... but if this guy was walking into your shop it's your pant you'd crap in! I took jewelry class and the best and most respected teacher went to Japan to get his apprenticeship done and learn how to get different metals with different melting points to interact together (it's the closest thing to actual alchemy you can do... seriously). This man has the palm of his hands like literal burnt leather and can remove a small silver ingot from the mold with his bare hands. He said to not do this tho because he lost a lot of feeling. But man he demonstrated it and there was a silence there... when you dedicate your life like this to a craft it's a whole other level. Here we may have all the safety equipment and easy machines but, partly as a result, we don't get the skills to back any of that gear up most of the time. And lack of skills is more dangerous than safety measures for people who haven't mastered something like this. Just saying.

That good steel will far outlast those spot welds on dirty metal. And that prep work before painting. Outstanding. And you wonder why there are so many channels of small shops fixing trucks over there.........

That guy is very skilled with a torch. He is doing really good cuts. The only thing, prep the surfaces well and paint the components individually. Don't do painting for cosmetics only. I suppose that can work in dry places like Pakistan, but in rainy weather, corrosion will certainly occur.
No point in painting individual parts - the welding will destroy the paint. Incidentally the red paint is just for appearance. In use it will soon wear off. The black paint on the inside may be rust convertor/preventative as certain types are black - but it might be just black paint.
The color is for sale purpose only, it's a real eye catcher.
The way trucks are abused over there it will be worn out long before corrosion would be a problem.

It never amazes me the craftsmanship of those small countries with limited funding, they're very resourceful when it comes to recycling. Here in the states, we think everything is molded and mass produced without fully understanding the dynamics. We forgotten the art of creating with our hands

That hydraulic piston has been welded many a time. Such back breaking work.
Not a lot of welders know how to do a hot tack. At 17:05 he welds both sides then hits each side with the hammer while the welds are still hot. The weld is just hot enough to compress but cold enough to hold the metal tight against the metal you are working with. This takes practice but if you do it right it will give you a super tight fit much like a hot rivet would. The sheet metal in the beginning of the video likely came from a scrapped ship. Nice way to repurpose some good steel.

@@beizhang7799 Why would they have any of that, especially in a 3rd world country? There are many jobs like this in the USA that don't require any of that. I do welding and fabrication and did some welding classes in college. Welding certs are varied and they eventually expire. For critical welding jobs, they will get certified or do weld tests which are needed for that job. I have heard of employers having specific tests which are more focused than some of the welding certs a person can get. It is much more complex than something like a driver's license in the USA where there are a handful of versions and add ons where you can get an advanced license and be ready to do most trucking jobs. There are many types and positions of welding and many materials to weld.
@@beizhang7799 I've been a welder for 50yrs I'm 66now and the only certificate I got or needed was at end of apprenticeship most employers I've found do a bench test unless a particular job like pipe welding requires an up to date certificate
well tom your powers of perception are dead on, you can read, the title says its made from ship steal so good job with your reading skill, also hitting a piece of metal while its still hot to compress it for a tight fit isnt hard and doesnt take years to learn, you hit it while its still hot and it goes where the hammer lets it go.

I've seen so many of these videos from some of the not first world countries, and honestly feel bad for the lack of tooling they have. But a lot of these videos they make due with what they have and do a darn good job at it. If a group of businesses got together to raise some money to help them, they would be producing a lot more of the high quality parts that they are. And it won't be any of that assembly line garbage that will break on you, but high quality that someone took pride in making like this
I once saw a presentation on one of our overseas warehouses. Someone asked why there were no forklifts, only manual labor. It was explained that labor was so cheap, a forklift made no sense. And, it was likely the forklift would be stolen anyway.

Cool to see this heavy cutting done without a plasma or water jet cutter or computerized cutting. Their heavy pantograph for torching small parts out of heavy sheet was fairly modern, though some of the torching was done freehand. Great work by great workers, I just wish we could all get along and respect our differing cultures and religions and quit blowing people up everywhere, from the ground and from the air, all sides would benefit from a forever-cease-fire.

Most shareholders are investments funds run for retirement or pension purposes. If the investment doesn't return an adequate return a person investing in them will not be able to retire or their investment will not keep up with inflation and they will be actually losing value of their money. The corporation must have the shareholders or they would not have the capital to build larger operations or more complex methods. These larger or more complex operations are often necessary as they are making very little on each item or service they offer and have to expand to account for efficiencies of scale.
If you are referring to CEOs being greedy with their large paychecks, often their compensation is built in stock options that will be almost worthless if the company does not increase in value and the actual value of their compensation is not known until months or years later. Every day we hear about companies going bust or CEOs getting the boot. It is a hard skill to master and extremely competitive. A CEO that is skilled at making the decisions and reading the market and understanding the processes and direction necessary to succeed is very rare. They are like the basketball all stars of the business world and should expect compensation as any all star would. I respect them a little more as if they are good at what they do many thousands or hundreds of thousands of employees will have an income that will be secure and substantial. Many hundreds of thousands of investors will have retirements or investment accounts that will offer them to achieve their goals whether retirement or education or homes or other things.
These corporations and heads of corporations have enormous responsibilities to many people and this 'greed' that you refer to is not anything but fiduciary responsibility to their customers, employees and investors.

That grounding line just laid ontop made me cringe. I've seen what happens when your body becomes the grounding circuit, my welding lecturer at college who had a funny walk and a speech impediment because he became part of the grounding circuit when he was younger, he said unless you wanna walk and talk like me you'll made sure you wear gloves and the ground is securely fastened to the job 😁.

Nothing wrong with him holding it, a slow auger. What you want him to hold it in a vice? He’s building a trailer right now not a vice don’t give the poor guy more work.
@@WhiteWolfeHU : You obviously are not a machinist. It is slow RPM that is more dangerous. At high drill RPM the inertia of the job makes grabs less dramatic, and at high RPM less torque is transferred. Whenever sheet metal is drilled with a drill bit of diameter such that each cutting edge can project above and below the job at the same time (as is the case here), you have a risk of the drill grabbing the job and tearing it out of your hand (and perhaps into the operator).
Those welds on the press are vile

@@mathewmolk2089 : The stop , which is a bit of scrap bolted to the drill table in the foreground, probably gives him some false confidence, but the only thing holding the job down is his hand. If the drill grabs, it may wind the job upwards and past the stop before he can react. He's got the drill running at about 300 RPM (5 turns per second), so he has about 1/10 of second to get his hand clear - possible but very risky.
The only safe way to drill sheet metal, with drills of diameter larger than the job thickness, is to clamp the job down with dogs and keep your hands well clear - or use a sheet-metal type stepped drill bit, which are not readily available for holes this size.
props to these guys for doing what the have to, to earn a living. Lousy working conditions, old worn out tools - tough way to work. Seriously - even elevating the work piece would save these guys so much pain. But, this is how people die; heavy trailer coupled to a truck with a hitch made from unknown metals that was hastily (and poorly) tack welded together.
India has a life expectancy 10 years shorter than Americans because of this.

Working at ground level seems to be the preference in many parts of the world. Given the investment made in various other tooling benches would be a trivial cost, I think it's a cultural preference to work on the ground.

Back in my day, we used a hacksaw to cut it and our bare hands to beat it into shape. The modern technological achievments are a blessing!

Great skill worker, they are deserved and equipped with high quality of tools from other high developed country such as USA or German or Japan and have a good future
Considering their very limited resources, they're rather impressive.
No PPE to speak of but they had some awesome hydraulic presses and air hoists, decent acetylene torches and nice dies for the presses.
These men knows how to work hard, but I would like to watch them spend time with their family and play with their kids as well.
We should be doing that here in the US. Then maybe the workers could be wearing safety glass and welding masks at the very least.

My Grandmother told me in the 60's, when I was a curious small child, that trucks with this type of hook-up, moved houses sometimes on a flat trailer. I had serious fear that a truck would just move our house in the middle of the night, with us in it! She wasnt even trying to scare me. Just my own imagination, I guess.
I used to live right next to a Mack Truck Yard around 85 and they had hundreds of new trucks thete and for some odd reason l always thought they were bad guys....l was 5 in 85 so I probly had a dream about it or sonething but l always got a really bad feeling and would sometimes cry when passing by it. I still have no clue what that was all about and still wonder about it.
The trick is to cut the trailer hitch OFF your house, and flatten the wheels !

Excellent torch cutting skills on the main fabricator but I don’t understand how he welds without a dark lens for eye protection.
He shuts his eyes when the arc is occurring. A lot of Pakistani welders do that. Not very safe - splatter could land anywhere on his face. Sometimes he holds his other hand so as to shield his eyes from the arc. With no gloves, skin cancer may be the eventual result.

You can feel the 90 degree angle of the steel when the welding rod hits it, just for tacking, you can just let the welder run for a few seconds and it should have it. Finish off properly after the rest of it is tacked with proper welds.

same here in the UK , the degrees all seem to be is 'media studies' or 'Women's studies' then wonder why they cannot get a job and are 40K in the hole.
