  • After 2 and a half years I have found the perfect Camera Bag & it's not even a Camera Bag...exactly. Here's why.
    The Pacsafe Venturesafe x40 is seemingly designed to be a camera bag, but also something of a solid day hiking pack or backcountry ski touring adventure pack. It's awesome!! Full stop. & after a few minor tweaks I think I've found the perfect camera bag!! Here she is :)
    ALSO if you didn't know... my first EVER Online Video Course went live last week and it's getting some Kick Ass reviews. I did the same! Bought a pacsafe backpack because I couldn't find a camera bag that has a great security and anti-theft features like this and modify it with camera cubes in the bag. I've gotten their normal backpack that has no zip at the back. but still works fine. I put my jackets at the top and the camera cubes at the bottom of the bag. Don't need to worry much when I travel to places like Europe. Great brannd, solid material. Finding a new one to replace with my old PacSafe

    Thank you! Finding a bag has really frustrated me ever since I started adding lenses beyond the Sony 24-105 I started with. I also lived and traveled in Europe and found so many of the expensive camera bags severely lacking in the kind of security features I wanted to thwart pickpockets on crowded train platforms and heavily-touristed areas. I wondered how others managed to get through a day on their feet with a bag that holds ONLY camera gear, with very little room for the things I need for a long day out, like a layer or two, a guidebook, headphones, water and snacks, an umbrella, wallet, keys, and a small make-up touch-up kit (hey, what girl doesn't want to look decent in her own photos?). And if I have to spend 10 minutes digging around when I get to the train ticket kiosk just to find my wallet in the only safe spot... Total nightmare. This bag looks great. Might have to try it! Since you already had an ICU that fit, would you be willing/able to measure the interior compartment so that I can find one that will work?

  • @dozerjohn

    Uhm no? I just bought Lowepro Protactic 350 II, you will NOT make me buy a next camera backpack. My gods, I am so proud of myself, I might just buy myself a new camera bag as a reward!

    Quality video! Haven't invested in a proper camera bag yet, been using my Osprey Talon 33 bag plus peak design capture clip for the meantime! Had my eye on the Lowepro Protactic BP 450 AW II but might have to flip a coin now!
    Also, what do you use the shower caps for? Keeping water off the lens?

    • @gregsnell
      @gregsnell  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lawrie!! What up mate? Yeah it's a tough call for an all around good pack, but after much searching I think I've found one for me. Yes the shower caps are for covering the lens and filters when near waterfalls in between exposures and windy rainy conditions.

    Hi Greg,
    Like the bag and the way you set it up. My only question is a lot of airlines have a 7kg limit and for me its always giving me problems. To the point of frustration.

    • @gregsnell
      @gregsnell  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I hate the one carry on 7 or 8kg rule. Luckily as photographers we tend to get away with a bit more because the staff know how expensive our gear is. It's when you start bringing a second carry on into the mix that things get tricky.

  • @scottman895
    @scottman895 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The backpack looks amazing! I really like all the features with the backpack especially with it being waterproof and anti-theft. I've been looking to replace the backpack I've been using for 9 years as I have been gaining more and more camera gear. This would be a backpack I would love to buy, but the only problem is that I have a 17-inch Dell Inspiron laptop, and I don't know if my laptop would be too large for it.

    • @gregsnell
      @gregsnell  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah it's a tough call especially as this doesn't have an ICU. I think it would hold a 17 inch laptop though.

    Hey Greg, just discovered your channel. Good stuff here!
    Two questions - (1) Have you ever had to check your bag while flying when the airline chose to weigh it?
    (2) Do you carry the bag on-board an aircraft in the cabin in the same configuration (with the tripod attached outside), and if so do you keep the spikes attached permanently?
    Cheers!

    • @gregsnell

    Question, have you ever had problems with the weight of your bags as carry on, or have the airlines ever tried to make you check your gear bags?

    • @gregsnell
      @gregsnell  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah we've had issues for sure. It's like a game of roulette every time. I keep my smaller rolly carry on hard case ready to be checked at all times and keep this bag the main camera bag as like a person item backpack which they tend to not weigh. In the case that they weigh it and say I can't take it on board. I'll take out the ICU and bring that only (which is probably still over 7kgs.

  • @twiztedzero1685
    @twiztedzero1685 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My camera bag isn't a camera bag either. I went with the Osprey-Kestrel 48L , and a Think Tank 30 Digital Holster to serve as an insert inside my pack, or worn outside on it's own - or strapped to my chest on the Osprey, or Strapped somewhere outside the Osprey pack, along with basic lens cleaning tools and wipes. This leaves me with room for my layers, lunches, thermos, binoc's, and other assorted gear that I use for my Urban Wildlife hikes in and around Ontario.
    I mainly shoot with a Canon 80D + Tamron 100-400mm DI VC USD on a BlackRapid cross shoulder strap. I really don't have a use for a dedicated "glass bag" really. If I need to bring along more lens I can throw them into their own protective soft cases and chuck them into the pack too easy peasy.

    Greg you know that there is no such thing as the perfect bag, I have at least 6 and all get used at some point. My main bag is a f-stop Anja, backed up with a Billingham 555 but it depends on whether I want easy access (Billingham) or whether I am trekking to a location then not moving around in which case I'll use the f-stop. I will also use smaller bags for days out or when I know that I won't need anything other than camera and one or two lenses.
    Either way I will never carry all my gear at one time, I simply wouldn't need it all, if I travel abroad I will take a selection depending on final location but I will use the f-stop as it works really well as a carry-on and is comfortable when loaded.
