    this actually looks like a really good photography hiking bag. those straps on the sides are perfect for tripods, and the compartment against your back is perfect for an internal camera unit

    I got lucky and found an earlier iteration of this brand new in a thrift shop for $10! No waist bands, and not quite so many features, but still a solid bag.

  • @visualjon
    @visualjon 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Its marketed as a bag also aimed at photographers so the side straps are perfect for lashing tripods to it. You could attach hiking poles with them as well. Maybe even a small child or a cat. Great vid, the bag is pretty much perfect for my needs as a hiker/camera gear lugger. 👍🏽

    Why does it feel like it's been awhile since Chase has mentioned our "papers...business papers." I just feel like a bag review is incomplete without it; and frankly I like knowing where to stash my file folder of travel documents (Yeah...I print out my itinerary with flight info, reservations, and excursions).

    Gotta have those compression straps, especially when you’re dealing with those ridiculous 20cm depth restrictions on budget euro airlines.

    I feel the PERFECT travel bag for me is the Venturesafe X30, been using it 2 years now. So far I've been to Japan twice, Vietnam, Hongkong. Trips usually last 5-12 days no problem, pack smart and you'll be fine. India & China is up next month which should be fine as well.
    In terms of safety, I've yet to test it in Europe or Mexico (which I hope I don't ever get to) but so far the loops, locks and security features are really good for preventing theft. Any attempt to unzip the bag will have the thief struggling to fiddle with it which by then you will be alerted. I pair it with the Camsafe V9 for my DSLR needs, passport and daily travel essentials.

    The “papers ... business papers” bit is always my favorite part, Chase. Can’t believe I missed that it’s from _Big Lebowski_ ... was rewatching the other day, and laughed my butt off when the line came up (and the light came on).

    • @chasereeves
      @chasereeves  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's my question... was it like that, or was it like, "oh, i see" and anticlimactic?

    • @grimmWednesday
      @grimmWednesday 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chase Reeves definitely "oh, shit!" I know TBL cold, or so I thought. My wife and I do your business papers bit to each other all the time, so it was a hoot when we finally made the connection.

    Hi Chase, first let me tell you I love your videos. I travel once a month 4-5 days for business, and I wonder when you talk about minimal carry how do you manage with work + gym clothing (running sneakers, dry fit t-shirts that can be used once before wash, etc.). This is the main issue for me to exceed the carry-on limit so I most likely need to check my bag every time.

    • @chasereeves
      @chasereeves  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I pack only very minimal shoes in the bag. I tend to workout doing mostly body weight exercises these days. Mostly barefoot. This ones tough man. Workin out is worth it... maybe there’s some other adventurous ways to pack a little lighter?

    Is there a difference between the X40 and the X40 Plus?

  • @nathanksimpson
    @nathanksimpson 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Straps across the back would hold something awkward like you said: skateboards, snowboards, tripods, light stands, ice axes maybe. This pack seems like it is borrowing a lot from f-stop gear’s pack designs. If you want to see something similar but without the extra locking/slash proofing f-stop gear has some amazing options. This bag seems like it is a back country adventure bag/photography pack. Being slash resistant is great if you are carrying thousands of dollars in camera equipment.

    • @chasereeves
      @chasereeves  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Word! Thanks, Nathan.

    • @nathanksimpson
      @nathanksimpson 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I forgot to mention, the side straps would be perfect for skis. LowePro's Whistler, as well as most large F-Stop Gear bags have these design features. It also looks like it has something for trekking poles.

    Hey Chase, if you haven't done one yet... can you do a quick video on what you pack for your minimal carry as for clothes. I've seen a bunch of your videos and I'm planning a 2 week europe vacation with the fiancee. She'll be using the Nomatic Travel Bag and I plan to use the Nomatic Travel Pack. Would just like to see what you consider essential in terms of shirts, pants, unmentionables...etc. Thanks~!

    When I was traveling >100k Mike’s a year I researched PacSafe and bought a few of their smaller accessories. Love the slash resistance and the locking. Hate how this bag looks. Give me the looks of a Minaal or Aer bag and the locking and slash resistance and I’d have to buy one (shhhh, don’t tell my wife!)

    @Chase Reeves, Super review but please answer my two questions since you are pro about it.
    1) Confused between Minaal 2.0 travel pack and Outbreaker 35L and Nomatic Travel Pack. Which one should I go for? (I trust on your advice so please comment and without thinking I will go and buy whatever youll suggest since I am so confused 😋)
    2) outbreaker is a nice bag but it's out of stock from a long time! Any idea when it's gonna come back?
    p.s. Subbed already (y) Great content.

      From what I've heard Chase says I think he'd set you up with the Minaal. I can't speak for him though. I have this soft spot for the Outbreaker tho.

      @THEUPSTAIRS100 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Sold my Nomatic "Travel Bag" if that is what you are referring to (the 40L). A lot of wasted space on pockets and organization, the duffel is goofy for carrying by the handles as they are too far from the body. No shoulder strap option. The Nomatic Travel Bag is just way way too complicated and much too much wasted organization. That being said I use the Nomatic Travel pack (up to 30L) which is awesome for daily carry and weekend travel./

    • @fnaticmedia
      @fnaticmedia 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      THEUPSTAIRS100 thanks for the reply but I am referring to “Nomatic Travel Pack” not “bag” . Anyways thanks 👍🏼

    • @fnaticmedia

      Benoit Potvin Dont make me more confused 😅 say one name - Minaal or Outbreaker 😜

    • @THEUPSTAIRS100
      @THEUPSTAIRS100 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ankit Joshi The Travel Pack is awesome :)
      But quite a bit smaller than the Minaal Travel and Outbreaker 35L. I use it for travel but when I travel for a 10 k race and need to include runners it is a little small.

    holy shit...... wait, chase, does this bag have a locator chip built in or should i just pull the one out of my kids neck when i go on a trip. i kind of hate this bag just because it plays into the middle class american fear of everything and speaks volumes on how companies make so much $ by making us worry about shit ..... wife and i travel every month to someplace, never worry about getting our stuff stolen. if we loose something we have a drink and go shopping and decide what new shit we will buy with the insurance claim. Pro-tip: always make sure they get your MacBook, it helps a lot in covering the deductible and keeps your equipment fresh.
