    I've gotta say, I know most people aren't into the look of a boxy camera bag, but this might be the most useful camera bag I've ever used. Like on the scale of practicality, this thing is off the charts! What do you guys think? Could you deal with the boxiness for a more useful bag?

    • @daveinportland
      @daveinportland ปีที่แล้ว

      The box shape is great and I love the dual flap opening system but I'd rather it opens on the side with the straps. Bags/equipment just feel more secure when the opening is close to my back. Thanks for sharing.

      It’s not the boxy shape that puts me off most camera bags, it’s the colour. Why black? I just want something with a bit more colour

    Hi, I have had many (and still do) GuraGear bags. Honestly they are terrific camera bags. I've traveled to many far away places with these camera bags, from Africa to Japan, to New Zealand and Madagascar +++. They are very voluminous and durable. The bags are very light from the start. The only problem, they hold so much gear, that the bags get very heavy. Almost too heavy as a "backpack". Admittedly, I was much younger when I purchased my 1st GuraGear camera bag. GuraGear had an adapter set of clips to attach the bag to a "trolley". They sold a set of straps that held the trolley in place. I then used it for many years, along with a trolley that made it easy to roll the back around like a rolling backpack. Plus the trolley was removalble and the bag easily fit in airplane storage above your seat. I still have that bag, but the trolley wore out. The manufacturer stopped making the trolley and it was no longer available. I was able to purchase a used trolley on ebay, but eventually that trolley wore out as well. To my knowledge, GuraGear no longer has the attaching clips and straps to use a trolley with this new 30L. I'm not sure if the "new" 30L is made to attached a trolley. It was a terrific feature on the older 30L, and it served me very, very well. The Gura Gear line of camera bags and attache bags are extremely well made and very light. You can carry as much gear as you think you require. I suggest you carefully choose how much gear you take along. 😎 📷 👍 ⭐⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

    I have to admit the split open concept for the front to get at gear is neat, but honestly not my thing. I absolutely love my Lowepro 450 AW and my Nomatic X Peter McKinnon Travel camera backpacks. I have had both for a few years now and love that both are rear opening...I just feel when I travel my gear is safer and more secure in a rear opening camera bag. Plus I have both kitted out for everyday and travel so they are both comfortable to wear when I have them on my back, even fully loaded.

  • @MikeTaffet
    @MikeTaffet 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I still have an old Gura Gear Uinta backpack which is a modular design where you can insert Camera cubes into it. Similar concept, but I think the Kiboko/Bataflae style offers easier access, especially for bodies with a mounted Tele. I have a feeling I'll be getting one of these sometime soon

    Great video. I still have my GoPro bag, which I like but not love. It’s a good size for a casual videographer like me. I think yours would be super useful if I built up my gear and required more space. However, cameras are so freaking expensive in Canada, which is why I don’t see many people walking around with action cameras…other than myself. For a Canadian, the cost is USD so whatever the cost is, we have to add 30 cents on each dollar plus add taxes. So, a $450 action camera actually costs $614 plus tax…making it nearly $700. If any of these companies would manufacture and sell it from Canada, they would instantly become the #1 camera in Canada.
    My goodness though, you are living the dream with your girls. Couldn’t think of a better guy to be living the dream.

    This is a pretty cool bag and I want to love it, but I've purchased it twice now and returned it. I just can't get past the problem of that front opening flap design. When you lay the bag down to get gear out you are going to be wearing whatever dirt and muck and mud you laid it down on, and that is a deal breaker for me. You can sort of get around it by standing rhe bag upright, but then you risk stuff falling out of it when you open the flaps. I wish they could somehow figure out the butterfly design in a rear opening pack.

    Do you still using this bag regularly? I'm thinking of getting something a little bit more robust for my documentary trips where I'll be hauling an FX6, a couple zooms, an audio kit, a few V-Mounts, and a small drone. Think it'd cover what I'm carrying?

    Great bag, but too big for me. Let me explain I am hobbyist photographer and owner of the Nikon Z50 (great travel camera) with both kit lenses and one small prime lens, Godox small flash, batteries, etc. So I like a smaller and lighter bag for travel, any recommendation David or anyone.

    OMG, this is hilarious! I actually made a video about this same bag 11 years ago and it's still my go-to bag today - I even have two of them! They've traveled with me extensively, including internationally, and they still look as good as your brand-new one. Although I've switched from Canon to Sony, I just couldn't bring myself to part with the bag. It's definitely a testament to its durability and quality. Here is a link to the video I posted I called it the clown car of camera bags. th-cam.com/video/p4-AtEdSfVg/w-d-xo.html

    I'm a big believer that the perfect camera bag doesn't exist until you make your own 😂The butterfly is compelling and this looks like a great choice for those who really want to carry the 16"+ laptop as a priority feature and/or a big tele lens on one half. I don't care about the boxy look either, but the lack of capture clip compatibility is a deal breaker for me and many. It's a shame they didn't sew a thin, reinforced flap of material on one of the straps to be able to position one on the front face of the strap. I just did a review of the fstop AJNA and prefer those zippers and materials for water. This does look better for frequent flying though. They're both similar sizes and (unfortunately) price ranges 🤑 Either way, great review, and glad there are so many options!

    This is a well known bag for wildlife photographers for years now, precisely because of the butterfly design that can accommodate long primes, however there are 2 main shortcomings: a) the part you put on your back gets in contact with the dirt, b) somebody standing behind you can open it. If you don't see yourself in these 2 scenarios it is a fine bag. I am surprised though that David just come across it.
