Charles still looks the same because the brain dead man he transferred himself to was his twin brother. Confirmed in the commentary of Last Stand.
Technically you learned Logan was older than he appeared in the first movie, just not how old.
Logan’s healing is suppressed, but he does still have bones laced with near indestructable metal, so they wouldn’t brake from falls. Dislocated maybe, but not broken. Not without something else adamantium, or something stronger.

Logan lost his memories when stryker put two adamantium bullets through his brain. What this did was emulsify (mess-up) a significant portion of his brain into little pieces and stir it all up. Each little piece contains some part of his memory. SO Logan still has all his memories -- just doesn't have access to them. BUT Logan's brain is slowly healing. All the little pieces are (slowly) finding their way back to their proper places so every so often Logan get a few old memories back.

I always preferred the explanation of his brain "intentionally" locking away memories as a meanings to protect him. His trauma would have destroyed him, just as any other person, but his body keeps him going. It's basically what happens to all of us in real life just that his life is much more extreme. A person gets traumatized in war, it gets locked away if they can't handle it so the person can live in. Even when, tragically, children experience extreme trauma they lock the worst of it away to continue on, albeit it tends to alter their lives more since it is during developmental periods of life.

@@jessecortez9449 I am totally supportive of this theory BUT it is a contributing factor not the sole factor. The reason for Logan's memory loss is a whole bunch of little (and big) things. Just as the restoration of his memory will be.

THis movie was somewhat based on a four-part Wolverine miniseries from '82. Logan goes to Japan because Mariko is in danger (he knew her from a previous X-Men issue and he's fluent in Japanese). She's marrying a bad guy and Yukio is helping him and there's some jealousy and awesome fights. From it came the line "I'm the best there is at what I do, and what I do best isn't very nice." Written by long time X-Men writer Chris Claremont and art by Frank Miller who also worked on Daredevil, Batman, and created the his own comic book Sin City.

This movie really digs deeper about Logan’s purpose after he left the team. With so many years of life being filled with nothing but pain and torment, one can only go so far before they snap. With this adventure with the Yashida family, he realizes that although he truly has suffered enough by remaining unchanged while he saw many around him age and die, Logan understands that he can still have reasons to live and to keep fighting for those who can’t do the things like he can. What amazes is how Japan was annihilated twice with those atomic bombings and yet, after more than 70 years, the land had replenish itself like the coming and going of a season. Like the Phoenix, it rose from the ashes to become something better, something stronger; thus showing that nature can bring back what man destroys. If we somehow straight up disappear altogether, the Earth can truly revert to its former glory, with some changes left behind by us. See you two next time.

FYI: Wolverines are know as "the jacked-up honey badger on steroids". They are about the size of a medium dog, and can weigh up to 66 lbs. They possess ferocity and strength far out of proportion to their size. They even prey on bison, moose, & elk. The largest documented wolverine kill was a 1,800 lbs adult male moose. Wolverines usually avoid bears, wolves, and cougars (who can kill them) but they have also driven those predators away from food or territory.

The family of mustelids (weasels, honey badgers, badgers, wolverines, etc) are all imbued with an anger more akin to T-rex with inflamed teeth. Thick but floppy skin to boot which makes them super tough to bite through, and they can squirm around in their skin to almost turn 180° if bitten with the typical neck hold used by other predators. This allows them to retaliate with claws and teeth while being held in a supposedly firm hold.

Logan and Mariko also become the adoptive parents to a girl named Amiko.
And Yukio eventually becomes Amiko's guardian/2nd adoptive mother.
Given the way this movie ends with Wolverine and Mariko CLEARLY having a strong romantic connection, and Wolverine and Yukio traveling around together, COMBINED WITH the fact that this is more or less the last time we ever see THIS version of Wolverine on this timeline, we are pretty much free to assume whatever we want, and can assume that Mariko and Wolverine continue to see each other and get married, and that they eventually adopt Amiko.

50 years ago, Wolverine debuted in Marvel Comics from an appearance with The Incredible Hulk to a newly recruited member with the X--Men.
But in 1982, his first-ever solo series by Frank Miller (300, Sin City) and Chris Claremont (1970s X-Men) defined the character of Logan.
His story was set in Japan and Logan's life was likened to that of an Ronin (samurai with no master).
He has the heart to stand against opposition, but is still learning/finding a direction in life.
The film uses elements from the solo series and set long after the events of X3:The Last Stand.
This is Hugh Jackman's 2nd film with director James Mangold following the romantic comedy, Kate & Leopold (2001).
Struggling with Jean's death, finding his place in the world and losing his healing temporarily is the most drama.
The action, romance, suspense, intrigue of being a Gajin (outsider) caught in someone else's battle really feels like the comics.
2 of the antagoniss;Viper is originally human and known as Madame Hydra in the Captain America comics.
Yashida in the Silver Samurai suit is based on the Silver Samurai and Ogun characters/known Wolverine villains.
A really good sequel, rightfully steps ahead of and more loved than X-Men Origins:Wolverine.
But both Logan & Professor X (solo/together) would soon face even greater obstacles.
The evolution was not over and I personally couldn't wait to see so much more in this universe.

    Greetings Carly and Cassie
The reason (in theory) why Logan can remember his WWII past is because as he regenerates, he builds up new pathways to "old" memories. In reality (according to most neurology doctors) memories are not really lost, just the pathways or accessibility to them is "broken or lost". It is like hiding a photo album somewhere in your house or property, you might forget where it is, but the photo album does NOT cease to exist where it was stored or buried. So, if another regeneration or 'trauma' causes new pathways to a memory (map), then a 'lost memory' will resurface and be 'remembered' unexpectedly.
The doctor 'poisoned' him in order to sedate him and then take his power to save the old man. She did not put too much in because she did not want to kill or taint his blood enough to affect the "surgery' she was planning. This is why she is video taking him during the funeral fight scene to analyze her 'poison' was affecting him. However, Logan was still healing, just at a slower rate because she introduced a mutant foreign agent in his blood system. Unfortunately, they then switched it to a mechanical 'parasite' much like in the first "Matrix" film.
Without a conscious effort, Stan Lee's creation of Logan / Wolverine is largely the reason X-Men has become so popular. By most statistical metrics, Wolverine is the MOST popular mutant. This is the prime reason most X-Men movies revolve around this character, not only in this franchise, but also in the comics, for the most part.
"...to live forever with no reason to live" is technically, incorrect. Because he is having "memory" problems and he can't foretell the future, he is unaware (to this point) why he is SO IMPORTANT to the survival and victory of the mutant and human existence. This is, in part, because Lee had not yet written / decided how far to take his worth to the overall arc of 'Mutant' history. Unfortunately, we lost him way toooo soon for him determine the final trajectory. Now it is up to present and future illustrators and writers to decide his path and destiny.
One of the problems I have with the "Logan" film (and probably the Deadpool 3" film) is that they continue to age him, which violate both the theory they setup in the previous film and that from the comics. Logan CAN'T (or shouldn't be able) age past a mid 30s age appearance and his abilities [should just] continue to improve.

Viper AKA "Dr. Green" is given a poorly explained role in this movie.
Normally, her real name should be Ophelia Sarkeesian AKA Madame Hydra.
As her alternate codename implies, she's one of the leaders of HYDRA.
Since Fox didn't have the rights to actually USE HYDRA in the X-Men movies, her role as Madame Hydra can only be assumed.
In the comics, HYDRA is an offshoot of the ninja clan known as The Hand.
Of course HYDRA then becomes super Nazis and battles Captain America.
But HYDRA and The Hand still retain some connections.
So, it's sort of implied here that Madame Hydra/Viper is using her Nazi super science to manipulate this ninja clan and Mr. Yoshida, in order to get a shot at stealing Wolverine's healing powers and immortality for HYDRA, and using Yoshida's wealth and stockpile of adamantium to prepare to build adamantium weapons for HYDRA.
We see that she's CLEARLY pulling the strings here throughout the whole movie, but we never fully understand her motives, unless we just accept that she's simply ONLY working for Yoshida.....despite being SO manipulative and seemingly pulling all the strings.
I find it best to just ASSUME that her role as a leader of HYDRA is intact in this movie, even though Fox couldn't legally refer directly to it.
And Wolverine is part of Captain America's legacy.
All the experiments done to him were in the name of attempting to find alternate ways to replicate the success of Captain America's Super Soldier process.
And the Adamantium that coats his bones was developed as a failed attempt to replicate the Vibranium-Steel alloy that makes up Captain America's shield.
Captain America was essentially created by SHIELD.
It only makes sense that SHIELD's ultimate enemy, HYDRA. would eventually come to haunt Wolverine too.
    🤷‍♂
It's allllll tied together in a complex tapestry.

This film is primarily based on Chris Claremont's and Frank Miller's legendary 1982 "Wolverine" miniseries. It was Claremont and Miller who introduced many central aspects of Logan's character in this book, after his first appearance in Incredible Hulk #180 (1974) and formally joining the X-Men in Len Wein's 1975 Giant-Sized X-Men.
There's NO WAY Logan could have known what was sort of bomb was about to be dropped. The existence and decision to drop the atomic bombs was kept SO secret, that when USS Indianapolis, the cruiser tasked with delivering critical components of the bombs to the American airbase on Tinian, was sunk by a Japanese submarine, she wasn't even acknowledged to be missing for several days after she failed to arrive at her intended destination (when you watched Jaws, this was the ship Quint had served on, and he mentioned in his monologue about the sharks. Although in real life, most of the dead succumbed to dehydration, exposure, or wounds sustained when Indianapolis was torpedoed. The sharks primarily focused on the men who were already dead, not the survivors). Also, Logan would not have fought in the Allied invasion of Normandy, (as shown in X-Men Origins) and then been deployed in the Pacific at the end of the War in the first place. Although many units were planned to be deployed for the pending invasion of Japan before the bombs were dropped, none had actually departed Europe by the time Japan surrendered, and no other US Army units served in both theaters (and no Marines served in Europe at all).
Yeah, that hole would not have been enough to shield them from the explosion. They would have been flash-fried extra crispy.
EVERYONE liked Yukio in this. In the original book Yukio was NOT a mutant. She first appeared in the Claremont miniseries, and was actually conceived as a love interest for STORM (Chris Claremont definitely had a thing for queer relationships, ESPECIALLY when it came to women. Practically every woman he wrote was coded as at LEAST bi, and as I mentioned on X2, he originally intended Mystique to have been Nightcrawler's FATHER). However Jim Shooter, the Editor In Chief at the time, refused to allow same-sex couples on his tenure. In the books she's a ronin, and although she often works for the Yashida clan, it's as a mercenary.
Viper is played by Svetlana Khodchenkova. But with the mask she DOES sort of look like Heigel.
The Black Clan of this film is a stand-in for the Hand. Because of how the film rights worked out the X-Men films couldn't use them, so they became the Black Clan.
The first two acts are by FAR the strongest. It's a very neo-noir sort of mystery, with shades of the films of Ozu, and The Outlaw Josey Wales.
Logan's healing factor has undergone some SIGNIFICANT power creep since his first appearance. Originally, while Logan healed faster and more completely than normal people, injuries could still leave him crippled for days, if not weeks until he recovered. It was only later (around the 90s) that it got to the point where he could heal from fatal injury in moments. Ironically, Logan's healing being slowed in this film actually brings him closer in line to what his capabilities were in the original Claremont and Miller book than they ever were in the films.
Harada is the original Silver Samurai.
Japanese swords could absolutely be used one-handed. The legendary samurai Miyamoto Musashi's entire fighting style centered around the daisho; dual-wielding the pairing of the katana and wakizashi.
Mariko Yashida is probably Logan's most long-running love interest, and arguably the love of his life. Their relationship has been a bit off-and-on, not helped by Mariko dying and being resurrected once or twice. It's the movies (and the 1992 animated series) that are responsible for people believing he and Jean had this great star-crossed romance. In truth, in the books whatever Logan felt for Jean, Jean did not completely reciprocate.
"How did you know there was a pool?" "I didn't." This joke has been used in SOOOOO many movies, lol. One of the most famous comes from the final Sean Connery Bond film, Diamonds Are Forever, when a gangster threw secondary Bond Girl Plenty O'Toole out a window, not knowing it was above a pool.
There's an alternate unrated cut of the film where the battle with the Black Clan is longer and considerably more violent.
The third act is without question the weakest part of the film, mostly because of the goofy mecha battle. The Silver Samurai of the books is MUCH closer to the depiction of Shingen's armor, not the glorified Iron Man suit. The fight with Shingen was awesome. The fight with Ichiro Yashida was excessive over the top CGI silliness.
I honestly don't know why Logan didn't just put up his claws, and instead allowed Yashida to cut them off. Plot-Induced Stupidity.
True story: Deadpool actually received his own healing factor from Logan in the comics, though not QUITE in the way it happens here.
There's an alternate cut of the final scene with Logan and Yukio on the plane, where she gifts Logan his iconic brown and yellow suit.
Magneto has gone through a few Heel - Face / and Face - Heel Turns over the course of the books. Generally these day he's more often on the darker end of the Anti-Hero spectrum, and his "kill all humans" ideology has MOSTLY subsided.
Days of Future Past is based on another iconic Claremont story. It's also considered one of the best films in the X-Men franchise, and among the best movies of ANY superhero franchise.

Technically that's not correct. Both badgers and wolverines are mustelids, but wolverines are not just another species of badger.
