In Memory Phyllis Hyman remains so BEAUTIFUL. I never knew she suffered so much in her life until I watched a video documentary. An AMAZING & POWERFUL Musician.
Girl, I had to take a hiatus from FB. I jumped on very briefly in June to let folks know about my mother in law passing. Then I was out again cuz too much foolery. My son about to graduate this year. He'll be a whole 18 years old this month. I'm mostly on IG. @phymanphan4ever
I know, right! Its still hard to believe that both are no longer with us. We have lost so many of our talented artists...its no wonder why the industry is in a mess like it is with these substandard, auto-tuned, studio-manufactured so-called artists that record companies keep shoving at us.
Grover was a genius in his improvised accompaniment and phrasing. All sax players today can learn from him. I love these performances, and keep coming back again and again.
Thank you for preserving these videos. There is always someone who enjoys classic music. This girl was B-A-D! I love the way you layered the videos to include several different versions. I regret not having gone to her concerts. Never saw her in my area.
Well.. that's what Clive Davis wanted her to do. Pop & Dance covers with a flirtier image. Rumor is they didn't get along. She wasn't willing to compromise on her style and choices and I applaud her for that. Clive pushed her aside, dropped her off the label and did with Whitney everything he had envisioned for Phyllis.
I love her but I think she would have went further if she would have written some different music her music material is a little boring sorry to say that but I guess that's was just her style
What a classic song from the late great Phyllis Hyman and the late great Grover Washington jr. may they both rest in eternal peace.
