The great late McCoy Tyner, and late great Phyllis Hyman 😢😢. I remember playing this song at WEAA-88.9 FM in Baltimore, Maryland. Morgan State University's Radio Station 🎤🎧📻
This is one of the best moments in jazz I loved this song and yes I still listen in 2020. Unfortunately ☹️ McCoy Tyner has now passed away. God bless both of them 🙏 in heaven. R.I.P.
Thank You for Your prayers 🤲🏾😍💖 Uncle & Phyllis still live in The Continuum, in a New Dimension & Realm💫 The Creator Says, "Say not that they are dead ... Nay, they are not dead, though You perceive it not"! We concentrate on the positive, although the hurt in Our hearts is vast🥺😪We keep striving & believing that Our tomorrow is a treasure more incredible than We can ever imagine, and Our love is more powerful than what We call this so-called reality💥💖💥
McCOY TYNER (p), PHYLLIS HYMAN (voc), Gary Bartz (a sax), Carlos Santana (g), Stanley Clarke (b), Buddy Williams (d), Gerry Gonzalez (perc), strings and horns in 1982.
McCoy Tyners' Looking Out LP is one of my all time greats from the '70's jazz era. All 3 Phyllis Hyman tracks are fabulous! Always included on playlists with dinner parties and when entertaining guests are these songs...and always commented on by friends that they have been long forgotten along with many other performers from that era. We'll miss you McCoy!
@@jazzatnight With an all star cast of artists on instruments such as Alphonse Mouzon (the best jazz drummer until his passing in my opinion), Carlos Santana and Stanley Clarke Tyner's slightly evolved to the early 80's progressive jazz sound shines, accompanied with the incredible vocals of Phyllis makes this a long forgotten gem as so many other artists such as Rodney Franklin ect...
@@Sweetpjoe Thanks! I love the forgotten jazz era of the early 70's-the early 90's. Because of the vinyl LP to CD conversion gap of the early 80's most of these classics were never offered on CD format here and thus not well known.
1981 and friends are dying and there is no sense of urgency in the black community/ADIS is ravaging my lovers/friends of friends, and l feel helpless, and l am trying to prove my worth into a white design college where talent doesn't matter but pedigree is currency this song, her voice, her emotion ,gave me the the the strength to push thru every layer of adversity . Phyllis Hyman is the sound track of my soul.
¿¡¡¡¡¡WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS!!!!? I´ve been a fan of both these artist for many years, I own many of their records & I´ve played them many times as a DJ, and at home, and I HAD NEVER HEARD OF THEIR COLLABORATION AT ALL!! ¡This really MADE MY DAY!!
It's from the McCoy Tyner album "Looking Out," 1982. There are 6 tracks on the album, and Phyllis Hyman sings 3 (the others are all instrumentals). The album features Ndugu Leon Chancler, Gary Bartz, Carlos Santana, and many others. In the early 1980s, Phyllis' voice was NEVER BETTER - could still reach her high notes, and yet that sultry depth was just starting and developing. The other two songs are "Love Surrounds Us Everywhere" and "I'll Be Around," all written or co-written by McCoy Tyner. One of my FAVORITE albums by her, and she's featured only on half of it. The breathy term/lyric "remember" became something of a signature phrase by her, such as in her song "Remember Who You Are" on the Norman Connors album of the same title (1993).
Just beautiful... McCoy and Phyliss doesn't disappoint... If you are looking to buy this CD, it's out of print. Amazon music doesn't have in their catalog. What a Shame, it a great album.. I'm hoping some day it will.
I’ve been searching for this for years!!! My mom kept this album in heavy rotation. One of Phyllys’s first recordings! Two Legends RIP McCoy Tyner and Phyllis Hyman
I really took for granted how great these artists were, if I could go back in time I would go to every live show of all the greats possible. It’s just not line` this at all any more. I was fortunate enough to catch the great McCoy Tyner live though in one of my favorite concerts.
Just heard this PH masterpiece for the first time...simply beautiful. I've never heard anything recorded by PH that I didn't fall in love with. What an amazing talent. We (your fans) miss you girl. Rest in peace, friend.
December 11, 2017. Happy Birthday McCoy Tyner! Listened to this on WBGO in Newark, NJ today. Both the music and lyrics touched my heart, especially where Phyllis Hyman sings "remember me".
A true joy listening to this song, WHUR in Washington DC played the entire Mccoy Tyner /Phyllis Hyman Lp on the late night concert series. I loved it then and love it now. I was almost in high school then. The best music ever in those days.
Miss Patricia, back in the day ehrn I was a college student at Towson State University a suburb in Baltimore with friends at Howard University I was introduced to WHUR. I was hooked!!!
I feel like I've just reconnected with a long lost love! I had (and lost) this album on vinyl in college and could never find a replacement. I've longed to hear this song again for years! Thank you so much for posting - in tears with happiness!
This is truly a Masterpiece. My very first time hearing this all I can say is Awesome !!! Well done Phyliss !! you are truly missed, they don't make 'em like you like you anymore, you were and still is a true artist. Soooo much style and class. R.I.P.
Why are these 💎 on on TH-cam? Perhaps on other streaming and download venders under the accompanying artist name?🧐 Can do NO WRONG, musically, can she!🤗⚡️🎭🎵🤴🏔🏹

Steve, you have great taste in music.
I agree, the Phyliss Hyman cuts represented some of her best work. Tyner does the songs justice with his open style of playing.

Listening during COVID-19 2020
This got me through the tough times working in Alaska on the Pipeline..Rise!
There is no mistaking, Phyllis Hyman. She does not disappoint.. Can you dig this? I can.
Didn't know an angel could fly soo Low.. and mccoy is working those keys effortlessly.
In that voice is the spirit of John Coltrane. And beautifull piano with orchestra.
Two of my favorite artists. I loved it then and I still love it 2day. Anytime I got a chance 2 see either one I would.
Ms. Phyllis could carry notes like no other! Her and McCoy are overdue for some major industry love and respect! I would love to see some tributes.
Phyllis was THE BEST EVER!!
Late nights listening to this classic cut it take you there and brings you back his piano and her voice are Hypnotic
