When people say Marvin Gaye was the greatest R&B or Soul singer, you're cheating him, he was the greatest singer period. Soul singers are the greatest singers: Theodore Pendergrass, Ron Isley, Marvin Junior, Billy Stewart, Luther Vandross Lionel Richie, David Ruffin Curtis Mayfield and so on !!!! No other genre can touch Soul Singer.

Crazy, but hearing Marvin was worried someone was trying to poison him rings differently today than it did 20 years ago. All this crap going on with P Diddy and knowing Marvin worked with Clive Davis has to make one wonder...
He'd cut 2 more albums in 1976 and '77: I Want You and Got To Give It Up (the latter topped everybody's charts in Summer of '77; he wrote it and Art Stewart produced it!); Marvin Gaye had to wait for 5-1/2 yrs to top the charts again: from late '82 into early '83, Sexual Healing was a #1 R&B, and eventually, a No. 1 Pop single in February of '83! He won Grammy awards in February '84 for Best Song Of The Year (Sexual Healing), as well as Best Album Of The Year for Midnight Love in late '82!!
I’m from D.C. born and raised. We all knew Marvin and family lived in S. W. They attended “Daddy Grace’s House of Prayer in the middle of the 600 block of M Street across from my grandparents. Every summer they had a week of revival ending with a huge public baptism outside with permission from the government to use fire hydrants. They had a huge parade while carrying “Daddy Grace on an ornate chair in try he “Egyptian/Roman style. They had a large kitchen where they sold “plates” which were everything was fresh and cooked on site. The parades were everything “Daddy Grace” threw out silver coins along the route where we kids would pick up the money it was such “fun” for us kids and a religious tradition for the adults.

How is anything a secret if your telling it😢. Marvin was the greatest R & B singer/song writer. Rest peacefully Angel. Marvin Sr. Was a wannabe Preacher who lived a sinners life.
Marvin Gaye’s music and lyrics are timeless.. they applied to our lives, culture and the state this world is in now and then..when you listen to songs like What’s Going on etc.. my heart just breaks, because they are so true.. of course the party ones are great but you can really understand a man’s heart when He did that one album in particular, he is from a generation before me, and I love his music, now my next generation listens to those songs too.. they apply.. I didn’t hear a word of this after the first lines about his secrets.. He’s Gone now,so whatever his journey was?It ends or starts again with God, I don’t need to hear any stories, we love you dearly Marvin R.I.P.💜
Wait a minute … Marvin Gaye Use to live in Washington DC that is true .. but I don’t know anything about some place call the fair fax’s apartments I do know he lived in the East Capital Dewelling when he left dc that’s where he lived at the time cause I lived there my self he live just down the Alley from me we use to play stick ball together along with his brother Frankie … I can remember him and four other dudes use to sing just behind my house along with my young sister .. what he when through with his father … I use to see that all the time .. I use to hang with a dude who use to go with Marvin’s sister by the name .. sweetie … man I have so many memory of those days this page is not big enough for it ..
Marvin use to run away from home a lot .. he use to come to the playground not to far from our projects and play basketball with us .. he was a regular dude .. we didn’t know at that time that he would be that big .. because everybody was singing in a group ..
You never heard of fairfax apartments because there were no fairfax apartments around there back then. My family used to live on Nannie Helen Burroughs, but back then it was called Grant St. My grandparents lived on Jay St, NE. I was too young to know Marvin, but people in my family did. I had an older cousin who lived on 45th street who knew him and Billy Stewart. Marvin sang with the Moonglows.
When i was a young adult in the 70s. I bought all of Marvin Gaye’s albums. They are among my prized possessions. I have a stereo/albums that i am playing after listening to this story. Rest in peace😢
I wish you lived near me I would beg to come over to hear that needle on that vinyl going around and around playing "what's going on" and so the whole album. Omg. Nostalgia

I was brought up on Marvin Gaye's music in London like Let's Get It On and Include Me In Your Life with Diana Ross and the album I Want You is still my favourite. Going to go and play Soon I'll Be Loving You Again.
What’s going on is probably one of the best albums in music history definitely in there. How can you be jealous of your son, I would be so happy its crazy
I must confess that I couldn’t give two s#!ts if Marvin f#@ked a duck or dressed like a scarecrow! I dropped in simply to hear some Marvin Gaye music because, whenever you see his name in a TH-cam title, you know you’re gonna hear some of the world’s best music, ever! The simple truth is that we lost this beautiful gift from music far too damned soon, and far too many people contributed to that happening. Many of them still slither among us. Who they are and why they can still hide, is the real secret. Rest in peace, Mr. Marvin Gaye.
I wish the World could see your comments. Such a powerful statement 👏🏾👏🏾 Impressive delivery point on 🔥💯 only if everyone felt that way about others flaws 💪🏾🤎✌🏾
Imagine what growing up with such a father does to the child and teenager you are and the consequences for who you become as an adult. You can't become the person you were originally meant to be anymore. Also as a boy you don't get a good example of how to live well as an adult. A girl doesn't get a good example of how a man should treat her. Been there, done that. My father was a mean alcoholic and my mother didn't protect us from him. But I always stayed far from addictive products. Because I had seen what it does to a person. I needed intense therapy to become a healthy thinking person.
Born Marvin Pentz Gay, Jr., April 2, 1939 in Washington DC! Mama had his Let's Get It On album (1973!) back in early '74 (I ought to know that entire LP!), and would play it almost every day! His Dream Of A Lifetime was cut in early '84 just prior to his death; and a censored version of "Sanctified Lady" dropped exactly 1 year after he died!!
HIS agent, recently found albums in his garage that hadn't been released. I think he may not have legal rights to the songs. MARVIN'S life WAS BRUTAL, YET HE BECAME ONE OF THE GREATEST ENTERTAINERS OF HIS TIME. HE IS STILL MISSED VERY MUCH.
Tragic story of incredible artist. That said, as a musician, I know the Blurred Lines suit was blsht! The family was able to receive millions which I’m sure they needed, but wasn’t justified. Trying to explain written music to a jury of non musicians is ridiculous way to decide the truth. They basically sued for having a similar ‘vibe’. Nothing was the same except maybe the tempo which is the speed of the song. Anyway, Marvin’s legacy carries on in a much larger legacy than most popular music made today.
My mother loved Marvin. I'll never forget I was waiting for my morher to finish making spaghetti because I was hungry when it was announced on the radio that he was killed. We thought it was an awful April Fools Day joke. It was not & our appetites were spoiled. Ironically the next day was his birthday. We attended his wake which was open to the public. He wore all white with gold trimmings. I remember he had a long fingernail on his pinky finger, his arms were crossed as he laid in the casket.💔
@@davidjohnsonsr.7146I did as well, I still can remember that day, very well 40 years, ago I was pregnant with my first Male Child. And I was out with my parents, and my great uncle. And on the way home, all the way home they kept playing all of his songs back to back. As I said oh, it must be Marvin days birthday today as those songs kept playing on the radio.. Yet, as soon as we got home, a friend of mines called! And said to me, oh that's sad what happened to Marvin Gaye! I said what?" She said he's dead! I said that's a stupid April's Fool, why would you say something like that! She said to me " she would NEVER say something like that about anyone! Wow, we turned on the news and there it was. It was a very sad day, as I grew up listening to him, and all his beautiful songs! Yet, with all those beautiful songs, didn't mean NOTHING to those wicked INDUSTRY folks he won his first Grammy from "Sexual Healing! Yet he had many more. It was unfair how he had to live under such pressure from a hypocritical father that was very jealous of his own children. He thought he was GOD THE FATHER, when he was only a god to himself. History speaks on how our own relatives, hurts us the MOST!!!! So sad. Couldn't get any LOVE from his own evil hearted father.

I'm just finding out about Dream Of A Lifetime in early '84: the narrator says the album was renamed In Our Lifetime; Marvin questioned the future of us: "Is the world coming to an end In Our Lifetime?"... kinda makes me wonder!?
On Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler), Gaye mentioned The Lord near the end of part 1: "God knows where we're headed", meaning the end of the world!!
Dream of a Lifetime was released posthumously in 1985 along with another album of ballads Romantically Yours to fulfill his 3 album deal with CBS. In our Lifetime was his Last album with Motown (released in 1981) it wasn’t complete and vowed to never record for them again and he kept his word.

The excessive drug abuse, alcohol use & inner demons stole his mind, his money, music, his fame, his family, his friends, fortune, and ultimately his life.😢 R.I.P. 🕊 Marvin Gaye ❤ there's millions of us who love you Tammy Terrell R.I.P.🕊 & your GREAT music🎶 inspite of the outcome
PEACE BE STILL!
Beautiful man, beautiful voice, beautful spirit.
Marvin Gaye Is And Was The Greatest Soul Singer To Ever Live❤ #Period
Yes, he was so talented! Love his music! What a loss, smh!💔❤️🩹
Definitely he's the standard for soul singing
When people say Marvin Gaye was the greatest R&B or Soul singer, you're cheating him, he was the greatest singer period. Soul singers are the greatest singers: Theodore Pendergrass, Ron Isley, Marvin Junior, Billy Stewart, Luther Vandross Lionel Richie, David Ruffin Curtis Mayfield and so on !!!! No other genre can touch Soul Singer.
@neraddyolf9141 True soul/gospel music sing... excuse me...SANGERS set the tone and the standard for what it means to be a "Great" singer that impacts cultures around the world for generations!
I wish he could tell his own story❤
Exactly 👍
Not many people knew Marvin. He was very, very private. Please dont assume. He had a tough time growing up...yes music was his escape.❤🎉❤ RIP.
May he rest in peace!! He was brilliant as well as talented!! He was my mother's favorite artist, I had the opportunity to meet. Its sad with mis fortune and fame mentil illness ,depression, poor managment we lost a "Legend""!!!❤❤❤❤😇🙏😇😇
I will always love you Marvin.no matter what.rest in peace.
How is anything a secret if your telling it😢. Marvin was the greatest R & B singer/song writer. Rest peacefully Angel. Marvin Sr. Was a wannabe Preacher who lived a sinners life.
That Part
Absolutely 💯 recorded facts
I wasted my time. Nothing here that wasn't in the doc.
Hypocrisy and jealousy was embedded in that evil father of his. Never could get over Marvin's success.
Right
Marvin Gaye’s music and lyrics are timeless.. they applied to our lives, culture and the state this world is in now and then..when you listen to songs like What’s Going on etc.. my heart just breaks, because they are so true.. of course the party ones are great but you can really understand a man’s heart when He did that one album in particular, he is from a generation before me, and I love his music, now my next generation listens to those songs too.. they apply.. I didn’t hear a word of this after the first lines about his secrets.. He’s Gone now,so whatever his journey was?It ends or starts again with God, I don’t need to hear any stories, we love you dearly Marvin R.I.P.💜
Marvin was the only black singer,I could get down with all is great wonderful songs.😂❤😂
Marvin use to run away from home a lot .. he use to come to the playground not to far from our projects and play basketball with us .. he was a regular dude .. we didn’t know at that time that he would be that big .. because everybody was singing in a group ..
maybe they are talking about Soufax(not sure of spelling) in S.W.
You should make a TH-cam video about what you know
How awesome You knew Marvin. His Music Is Epic ❤!!! Such A Huge Loss.
He was so handsome and so talented
When i was a young adult in the 70s. I bought all of Marvin Gaye’s albums. They are among my prized possessions. I have a stereo/albums that i am playing after listening to this story. Rest in peace😢
I wish you lived near me I would beg to come over to hear that needle on that vinyl going around and around playing "what's going on" and so the whole album. Omg. Nostalgia
I cry when it came across TV that Marvin Gaye had passed away. I wanted to go to his funeral so bad I was holding my middle baby and crying and rocking her every since I was a little girl it was something about Marvin Gaye. I love them. I loved all his songs Into this day. I still play his music you rest Marvin we all still love you. I know I do. I told my daughters when I pass. I want to play one or two of your songs and I can rest in peace. I love and I will always remember youyou rest Marvin you rest.❤❤❤

When I was a preteen at 13 year's old I use to listen to all his music. I loved to sing all his songs. ❤️💕❤️
All the entertainers did drugs, don't lie on the dead, R.I.P.The Legend Marvin ! ❤
ALL entertainers come on now.
Raw talent ‼️His music 🎶 🎵 still soothes my soul. We love you, Marvin Gaye 🕊💙
I love Marvin! Grew up listening to Motown music. I was born in Detroit! So proud of my hometown! And the greats that came out of that city! The greats will never be forgotten!❤
Marvin felt life. A sensitive soul destroyed by drugs. A talent like his comes along once in a lifetime.
Wonderful voice, he got better looking as he got older
Most of Marvin’s music was released before I was born, but my dad loved him and played his records constantly. He is and always will be my favorite singer.
Iam 76 and still a fan of MARVIN GAYE.
I love his old album
THE MOODS OF MARIN GAYE.The song on that album
Just takes me back
to the mid 50s and
60s and even to
today.I Guess I will
always his voice. I
still have his ÀLBUMS.
Marvin was and is the prince of Motown, please leave him alone, shame on you..
I play the 'What's Going On' album religiously in my house. It's just as prevalent today as it was back then.
RIP Marvin. 💔
Me too !
So true. My favorite too.❤
His music is prophetic🙏🏽
I was brought up on Marvin Gaye's music in London like Let's Get It On and Include Me In Your Life with Diana Ross and the album I Want You is still my favourite. Going to go and play Soon I'll Be Loving You Again.
Very moving and sad. Thank you 🙏🏾.
Eternal Love for The Man & His Music; There is None Like Him❣️
What’s going on is probably one of the best albums in music history definitely in there.
Perfectly stated ✔️👏🏽
I wish the World could see your comments. Such a powerful statement 👏🏾👏🏾 Impressive delivery point on 🔥💯 only if everyone felt that way about others flaws 💪🏾🤎✌🏾
Wonderful!! One of a kind!! Loved this Man! Please let him rest in peace!❤
What would it profit a man to gain the world and lose his soul? 🙏
What's Going on?
Lived in Detroit also, miss you Marvin❤❤❤
@@aphoristaemporium123an iconic song and so prophetic
HIS agent, recently found albums in his garage that hadn't been released.
I think he may not have legal rights to the songs.
MARVIN'S life WAS BRUTAL, YET HE BECAME ONE OF THE GREATEST ENTERTAINERS OF HIS TIME.
HE IS STILL MISSED VERY MUCH.
Oh my! I pray to hear them
He was a musical genius!🎉❤ I love him even now!
I really miss Marvin Gaye 🫠and his awesome music!! 🗣Ba-E-A-Be-E!!!
THANK YOU BROTHER♥️ FOR BEING HERE WITH THE COLLECTIVE HEALING US THRU YOUR BEAUTIFUL SPIRITED MUSIC WE APPRECIATE YOU LOVE YOU ALWAYS ♥️♥️♥️♥️
How would anyone no a secret he didn't tell...
Yall, please allow this man to RIP ....
Thank you for this story.🎉
I've been a fan since I first heard him sing. I seriously wish I had not even watched this. Heartbreaking the pain he lived in . 💔
One of a kind. Yes, the GOAT. ❤
Doesn't matter his secret no one can take away his God given talent a legend of R&B love ❤ Marvin and his music
Oooowee, the long pinkie! 😂
Oooweee, the long pinkie!
Exactly how we learned about his death...we too thought it was a cruel April Fool's Day joke.😔
Continue resting Mr Marvin Gaye, Jr. Gone but never forgotten ❤
TRULY,HE WAS AHEAD Of His TIME. HE FOR,SAW THE World🌎 BEING POLLUTED BY MANKIND. I HOPE THAT HIS CHILDREN, WILL PROTECT ALL HIS MUSIC,THAT IT WILL NOT BE STOLEN, AND USED By OTHERS FOR THEIR OWN SELF GAIN. COPYRIGHT,COPYRIGHT ,Copyright.
He couldn't get rid of the hanger ons including his family an friends, they broke him, plus the dealers
Let the man rest in peace. Leave him alone. 😢
I love and miss Marvin, and only God Almighty knows the truth. Gone but never forgotten🎤👑🕊🫶🏿🤦🏿♀️
Matthew 6:20
“But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:”
King James Version (KJV)
Matthew 16:26
“For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?”
King James Version (KJV)
Let that man rest,,,,What secrets do you have that nobody knows about,,,SMH
7:46 I get the shivers every time I see that album cover of Diana Ross 1) thinking who/why pick that photo? and 2) how eerily she looks like MJ when he was a teen
WHAT. Secrets and who CARES ?
❤ Marvin left behind all his BEAUTIFUL. SONGS for his. FANS
2024. FOREVER Listening. ❤
RIP. M G.
GONE but. NEVER will. Be. FORGOTTEN
This was that era. People did not talk about sex, health problems, secrets in family. So nothing was strange. My mom and grand parents were like that. I was like that at one time but slowly open up.
One of my top favorite singers. RIP Mr Marvin Gaye. I can't wait to meet you in Heaven.
Dignity! Let the man RIP!
Thank you, Marvin!❤
A VERY BEAUTIFUL TALENT LITERALLY AND VOCALLY!! HE IS DEFINITELY MISSED!! ❤❤❤❤
Great singer never will forget Marvin. Distant Lover sexual healing, a great spiritual voice. Power from God above. I truly miss Marvin voice. The Father was just pure evil, and he not only killed his son he silent the voice that God gave him, shame on his father.
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 I was in the Orchestra Pitt right in front of Him, during His last Concert.
What a milepost--thanks for telling us.
That’s so awesome!

God blessed Marvin with his talents. The world was on fire with his voice. His music lives forever ❤.
Hmm well it's hardly a blooming secret if we the public know about it .
I agree on his Brother Frankie's assessment of suicide by his Father.

MAMA'S FAULT!!! Why don't these women leave these men? Because they want to have that image of being married?🙄🙄😔 It's so selfish and narcissistic!!!
Marvin Gaye would've been proud of October London! Marvin Gaye with a took October London under his wing had he lived! RIP Marvin! U was and still is an Icon!❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏 I know Marvin heard October from above!
I meant to say Marvin would've took October under his wing had he lived!
