  • We drive the new 2022 Toyota Tundra and talk to the engineers about the development. These big changes to the engine and platform make it closer to the new Land Cruiser in terms of design. The updated technology brings it closer to the Ford F150, RAM 1500 and, Chevy Silverado. We discuss the pros and cons and more.

    A huge shout-out to Toyota engineers. In Quebec this is our favorite brand, our salty roads and harsh winter are literally killing cars, but Toyota's keeps on rolling with minimal maintenance. It's the only car brand that seems to care about longevity and are building cars for the real world. And thank you, Jack, for your great work too!

    Shout out to the NA Toyota crew for taking the time to talk about their areas of expertise on camera. To hear the powertrain engineer refer to the V6 twin turbo in "its Lexus application" made me take a step back from the easy "V8 to V6 equals downgrade" FUD, and made me realize that they hadn't just slapped some rando V6 under the hood, and that they were working towards clear performance, longevity, and driver experience goals. And to see Jack so excited about the new Tundra's drive, makes me look forward to any other Tundra coverage on the way from SG.

      Hate to hell you but in the LS500 the engine has issues and most people do not prefer it vs the older 1UR. A LOT of other 460 owners like myself do not like the new engine due to harshness and lack of connected smoothness

    • @theawesomeguy9999
      @theawesomeguy9999 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@mutiracialbeatdownPB That wouldn't surprise me at all actually. That's the allure/downfall of luxury vehicles. You often get the cutting edge of an auto group's tech, but without all the refinement and reliability of an older product. Hence all the changes and tweaks they made to the powertrain for the new Tundra for reliability and NVH. Manufacturers do this all the time, Lincoln was the first to get the new DOHC v6 engines from Ford and there were issues. But it was the first to get 30mpg and 300hp in one package. Since then they've become much more common in normal Fords and more reliable, simply because they had more time and data to improve the tech but it's no longer the latest and greatest

      HA! “Longevity” is their goal right? Yet they threw a tiny motor in a truck, making it work hard all the time. They threw a turbo or two on… that’s gonna be something that fails. Toyota V8s run forever. So do their V6s. NA… I can only imagine what their reputation would be if their cars always came with shitty engines like this. 2 V6 options…. And one with a little electric motor.
      Hope the new Tundra flops.

Assuming the TRD Off-Road package that almost everyone gets, you're probably looking at 50k after that package. Pretty much in line with a regular price increase from the current gen, but you get a vastly upgraded truck.

Literally on the road 10-12 hours a day basically. Cyber truck isn’t practical for that. Nor is it for hauling supplies and materials to job sites for those last minute oopsie HD runs to grab shit the ordering manager forgot. So it looks like the new tundra has an air suspension in the back. Is this a load levelling exclusively in the rear?
    Also does it have a large size fuel tank still if you get the hybrid version? Example in the F150 you can only get the 90 L if u get the hybrid.

    Been putting off watching any tundra videos until yours. Very interested in seeing how Toyota plans their future in the truck and frame based suv markets. Tundra sequoia and 4 runner are all so long in the tooth many of their customers were driving power wheels when these vehicles were being designed.

    First time I have ever wanted a Tundra so badly and now the new TRD Pro is my dream truck
    Yes it does have a V6TT but I’m sure it’s going to be a robust unit as a Toyota and it still gets the job done with 437 hp and 583 lb-ft with a tow rating of 12,000 lbs this is seriously going to be the next best truck on the market

    • @just_one_opinion
      @just_one_opinion 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to know that is for the hybrid right? And you have to know when the battery runs out you loose the electric aid right?

    • @basithph8958
      @basithph8958 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@just_one_opinion I know that lol I won't need to worry about that for the next 10 years and if it does go out then I can just take out the battery and disconnect the motors simple as that

    Say it with me: Reliability directly corresponds with cost, unless you're talking about European vehicles. Yes, Toyota trucks cost more, but they will run forever. If you're plan is to have a suburban status symbol and all you need is the flashiest, flavor of the week truck every couple years, you are not in the market for a Toyota product.
