We buy food puzzle but also hide snacks in toilet paper rolls. We fold them pretty tight and close. Our cat loves breaking and tearing up that cardboard and reach the snack.

it is easy to stitch up busted seams. actually, you can make new stuffed toys out of the tops of socks (they seldom wear out). cut a few-inch section, stitch one side shut, stuff with the rest of the sock and some catnip, stitch the other side shut. They don't care about pretty, but bells and shoelaces can add interest.

    • @Pepperprojectz
      @Pepperprojectz  11 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

Ooo that’s a great idea for a video!! It’s got my brain wondering now whether it’s possible to undo (at the seams) the bananas we buy the cats, replace the catnip and stitch back up. I totally agree with you. It’s been on the back burner for a while now and our sowing / stitching abilities (like my DIY) are poor at best but I guess it’s fun to learn new skills!
Thank you so much for watching and commenting. When we finally get round to making the DIY video, I’ll mention your TH-cam name to say thanks. Really appreciate it. 🙏

Kitten’s current favourite toy is a tiny blue and silver gift bow. He carries it around with him, it’s so cute! I made him a toilet paper roll play centre where I hide treats inside them and plug the holes with his boring tiny mice to make him work a bit harder. String seems to also be a big favourite. I do rotate his toys , because I used to do that with my kids.😂

I definitely think I need to be more proactive for my two girls, they are so particular. Especially my calico, she will rarely initiate fetch, but otherwise not play much. Seems nominally interested in wands, but only as long as she can stay in one place.
Our other cat on the other hand will try anything once it seems. They both love the laser pointer, but the second is so polite. If she sees any other cat playing with the pointer, she will sit and wait for them to be done until it's her turn. She's so precious

Your calico sounds very cute and very much like our Cookie! Lots of work to get her to play. Keep trying a few different toys, maybe there’s something. I know cookie went wild for this little red crazy bug thing, we uploaded the review as a short, be aware though, it’s quite loud… lol
Awe that’s so cute they sound almost British. Forming a line to play once the other is done lol 😂 The Catit puzzle feeder we reviewed seemed to quite nicely support multiple cats at the same time, although it’s a different category of toy. 😅

Looking forward to DIY toys video.
Does anyone else have a cat who is very afraid of wand toys? All my previous cats were crazy for wand toys - it was great exercise for them. My current cat is very afraid of them. If I so much as reach for the handle, she runs away and hides. She will watch from afar if I just drag the "prey" on the ground, but she won't engage, and as soon as I lift the wand or prey, she runs. I've left different ones out in the living room, hoping she'd get used to them, but no luck. Makes me wonder if she was bullied by blue jays or a hawk during the time she was abandoned outdoors by a previous owner.
My cat panics and escapes her leash harness - I've tried several varieties. She doesn't like her pet stroller. But she absolutely LOVES her forward-facing backpack walks!

Haha we’re hoping to put that together in a couple of weeks. My DIY skills are awful so I’m looking forward to reading about the laughs in the comments about my handy work.
Re your cat, I really do hope she’s ok. The main thing is she’s found you now and that’s what matters! Interesting to read about her reaction. When we did our top 10 worst cat toy video, we had a wand that Oreo ran from which was odd
And unlike him. I wonder, have you tried a see through / clear wand? Or how about this; amzn.to/3WeIw52 (Amazon link - Cat Dancer Toy). I can’t really think of a way of turning this into a video but I think this single toy engages and attracts are cats the most although it’s other qualities leave a lot to be desired, you’ll see what I mean when you see the photo. Maybe this could be an option?

We make it ourselves even easier: Every few days we throw all toys, except for our cats chewing toys, into a box. They LOVE the box and when they hear us opening it, they come running and "choose" the toys they want to play with next.
Also maybe this is just my cats, but I feel like it is not important what you give them to play with, but how you play with them. She loves to play with rubberbands and pens (or other small, straight objects, like chopsticks or regular sticks). Her favorite game is watching the stick poking around the corner and at some point to pounce and "kill" it. Or "dancing" with rubberbands. Meaning she tosses around a rubberband high in the air and pouncing and kicking it, until it disappears on its own under any furniture :D

@@Pepperprojectz Most of mine are on the tamer side (unless they get ahold of feathers), but I used to have an F1. He is a beast when toys get involved. Not much survives him.
The best toy according to my cats, (other than the feathers on a wand, which they go bonkers for), is honestly the little plastic springs. I think you said you bought a bag of 100? I need to do that haha
I haven't watched your review for the Catit groovy fish yet, but I will! I have a toy that is very similar and they love it, but it has some downsides. I'll have to compare it to the Catit.
Do your cats like water? Mine really like a little fish toy that has a hard plastic body and a silicone tail. It is water activated. You drop it in a bowl of water and it swims like a fish! My cats love batting at it and pulling it out by the tail. That could be a fun one to review!
Good luck with the project! When you popped up in my feed, I exclaimed to my fiancé that I thought it was weird that TH-cam was recommending a channel to me that had such a small subscriber count, and how it's cool that smaller channels can still get exposure. We watched a couple of your videos together and he said "This must be a reupload of their older content, right?" He thought your videos were too well put together to be just starting out. :) We especially liked this one. Hope that helps ^^

    • @Pepperprojectz

Haha tamer sounds good when they’re that big especially for a H1 lol! Feathers and cats are a crazy combo. But those springs. It’s crazy how even with something like a savannah it appeals to them just as much! In all honesty we only got 100 because they just ended up being lost under our sofa and being lazy, I couldn’t be bothered to fish them out every other day!
Ooo good idea. We JUST bought a GoPro to try and get an inside view from within toys but it should also work with water ones. When they were kittens we experimented a bit but even tho they liked it we ended up not doing more (water toys). We’ll have to change that!
Thank you again. It’s really appreciated. We were worried at the start we’d get 0 views, still got a lot to learn but small improvements each time lol 😂 I hope we continue to make interesting fun content for you both. A & K

Both my cats are bored and depressed. They were indoor/outdoor, now indoor only (because FIV) and they get bored of toys in minutes, not weeks.
The boy can't play more than 10 seconds before he gets bored. He cries a lot. Me too.
We are safe and depressed at home.
I can't find help on my situation as there is no favourite toy or hunting style. Toys are not real prey and my cats know the smell of real prey.
I made their life so safe and sad.

    • @Pepperprojectz
      @Pepperprojectz  14 วันที่ผ่านมา +6

I’m sorry to hear about your situation; it sounds really tough for you and your cats. Transitioning from being indoor/outdoor to indoor-only can be a significant change, especially for cats with FIV. We're actually in the process of making a video on how to help with boredom in indoor cats, which might be just what you need. Here are some tips that might help in the meantime (appreciate you've likely tried some of these ideas already but here's some off the top of our heads):
      - Add as many high places as possible with different ways for them to scale to, ideally around windows to allow your cat to watch outside. To help bring the 'fun' to them, add a window box or even a bird feeder on the other side of the window.
      - For toys, experiment with ones that look like prey.
      - Another idea on the toy front would be toys with real feathers, alternative you can try to scent up toys by transferring the scent of prey onto toys (i.e. rubbing feathers onto the toy, or if you don't mind the smell of it, try adding a little tuna juice). *Cats should always be supervised, so if you do decide to grab some real feathers, so please keep an eye on them* :)
      - I'm not sure on the feeding situation but food puzzle feeders could be a good option, or better yet, try hiding some food around the house to focus those hunting instincts.
      - A short dose of Cat TV might also help, there's quite a few good TH-cam videos online. Just make sure they don't jump up at the tv!
Outside of these, it's completely normal for a cat to play with a toy and stop after 1-2 minutes (10 seconds sounds a bit too fast though). Keep persevering with it. Remember cats LOVE a good routine and building in some scheduled play, even if it's just 15 minutes spread across the day could really help.
I hope it works out for you and your cats, it sounds like you all need a bit of good luck. The main thing is you clearly care and are TRYING to make things better! :)

All you mentioned above I already did. My apartment is "catified" and in three years I made a culture about cats. That's why your video is in my yt feed. Even if my cats spent two years and half as indoor/outdoor I applied all the methods for indoor cats, to make sure my cats would spend quality time when indoor. Also they never spent a single night outside.
On 31 December 2023 Jessy got extreme fever and she was diagnosed FIV on 2 Jaunary.
Since then I transitioned them to indoor and slowly they got in a depressed state, expecially Milo. He is apathetic and I really struggle to make him hunt. He litterally ignores every single toy. Even the laser pointer.
All he wants is to go outside and constantly cries at the window.
I used to leash walk them, but it just reinforced their will to go outside, so I stopped walking them.
I rescued a half-dead kitten one month ago. She is doing great now and I'm already in the visual contact stage on introductions. My cats act a little pissed, but curious too. At least something new is happening in their life and a spicy kitten will entertain them for sure, once they accept her.

Anytime! It's really interesting to hear about other people's situation. It's a difficult one, you're certainly in a tough spot! :(
Spicy kitten eh, I'm sure that will sort them out, I know it did for Cookie after Bear died, think that's a great idea. Let us know how you get on.

I had a friend whose cat used to be an outdoor stray, and she didn't like a toy unless it was the most stolid, Brown-grey lump possible. Any plastic or frills, and it wasn't prey anymore. She also didn't respond to the Lazer pointer. You're probably already trying that, I know, just want to reinforce that the lack of progress isn't your fault or for lack of trying. Cats are KNOWN for being "picky".
I also FULLY support getting a kitten for your cats. Especially if they're having trouble adjusting. I've seen it work first-hand. Good luck!!

where did you get that puzzle feeder from? With the sliding boxes. I think my cat would really enjoy it.

Good question! Brand is Nina Ottosson and it's called a 'Challenge Slider'. We reviewed it in a very early video if you want to see more on it (out cats love it despite it being an advanced dog toy) :) For now, I'll throw a link in the video description if you wanted to find it (Amazon).

I swear our cat is even more neophilic than cats in general. It feels impossible to keep her entertained! Taking her out in her harness does work, but she is often not satisfied with an hour or two a day...
I've never gotten her to play with a puzzle toy tho 🤔 should try again, it would be great variety for her, she just doesn't seem to get that she might have to employ skills beyond looking cute to get treats and loses interest quickly

Cats sure have their own personalities, don't they? It's great that you're taking yours for walks-it really helps them experience the outside world.
You should definitely try a puzzle feeder. Our cat, Cookie, usually isn't interested in toys or feeders, but she loves the tower feeder. It really keeps her entertained. Check out this video; we couldn’t believe how much she loved it!!
To be fair, looking cute is a primary reason for getting a cat haha :p

I have one cat who loves getting new toys so much that my mom has gotten me several MeowBox subscription boxes as gifts that he goes crazy for when unboxing. He loves catnip and he'll go nuts for every toy for 12hrs but then only use the kicker toys sporadically, preferring toys like cat wands where I actually need to play with him. At the end of the day, he has the most fun playing with his sister.
His sister doesn't participate in the unboxings. She doesn't respond to catnip and isn't interested in kickers. So, the toys are pointless, right? WRONG. Her favorite thing is to take them out of a basket in the living room and carry them to whatever room I'm in to present them to me with enthusiastic meows so I can praise her for the gifts. While she likes to play fetch with paperclips, these are NOT toys for fetching and she will look offended if you try to throw the toy.
It's always interesting to see what toys she feels she wants to bring. Her favorites fluctuate so I do try to switch toys out and put some at the bottom of the basket, but there's always one she will bring first or second. For about a year, it was this Christmas tree kicker toy from a holiday themed MeowBox, but she hasn't touched it in a month now. Her favorite now is this crinkly 8in long golf bag with a club in it from a golf-themed MeowBox. Even if I try to hide it under other toys, she will find it and bring it
Unrelated, but I incorporated this toy basket to see if it'd help her stop stealing things from my roommate to bring to me and it's worked like a charm. If you have a cat thief, this might be something you want to consider!

I should add that she'll keep bringing me things that definitely do rotate so I think she both likes having something familiar and having a variety, like you said. It's why I add and sometimes take toys to/from the basket. I don't really know how to categorize these toys since she doesn't respond to catnip (just silver vine). Maybe it's a mix of all three categories? She needs interaction with me so she has someone to bring it to, she (sort of) gets to problem solve to get the toy she wants out of the basket, and the first toys she brings are familiar to her.

Ooo we’ve never heard of this subscription before! Thanks for the tip; we definitely need to check it out.
It’s so heartwarming to read how much fun he has with his sister-their bond is truly special, isn’t it?
Haha, sister pussy cat sounds just like our Wolfy! He loves hunting and exploring and can be offended if we interfer! Oreo, on the other hand, adores playing fetch and bringing us toys!
It’s adorable that she always finds the golf bag. Maybe she wants to play a round herself... her trying to complete an 18 hole course would make for an interesting TH-cam video lol!
We are really glad the rotation worked out. Keep mixing things up, and thanks so much for watching!

Try not to worry about perfecting the categories. Keep their best toys accessible, and then ensure you have a good mix in each category (if you have an inbalance). This way, they get their fav toys out whilst njoying new ones on rotation.
Every cat is unique, so it's amazing that you understand their individual needs and can adjust accordingly. We’ve found the same with our cats-they all have different preferences, so knowing this helps us cater to each one effectively. Thanks again for watching and taking the time to comment. Happy cat parenting!!

Just hide them when they are bored and bring them back out after a few months leave it somewhere they can find.

    • @Pepperprojectz
      @Pepperprojectz  3 วันที่ผ่านมา

Yup, it doesn't need to complicated. The more things are rotated the less chance they'll be for them to get bored.

When putting the toys that aren’t out away. Do you have them away in a place where they can’t get them or?

    • @Pepperprojectz
      @Pepperprojectz  14 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

Good question, we usually store the ones we don't want them playing with away, inside the laundry room, where they can't get at them. :)

All cats need to be outdoor cats. If you cant take your cat outside every day, dont have a cat.

    • @Pepperprojectz

Avg. lifespan of an outdoor cat is 2-5 years vs. 15-17 years for indoor cats (source: Uni of California-Davis). Based on those numbers alone I fully understand why many pet parents don't let their cats roam outdoors freely. That being said, having supervised outdoor time or protected/safe areas for them to roam can greatly enrich their lives. But that's not always possible. Everyone's situations are different. For us, theres no right or wrong answer, rather it's about balance. Indoor cats can live fulfilling lives, we just need to make sure that happens! :)
