  • Hello! Here is the latest video in my Books for Art Inspiration series, settle in with your favourite thing to do while watching a video about books, it's a slightly longer one than usual but that means more great art to absorb...
This month I look at another three books from my art book collection and chat about what I find inspiring about them. I have a fun book with a twist, full of drawings from a Japanese artist, a book that gives a look behind the curtain of the art of Disney and a beautiful painterly artists retrospective book.
Yoshitomo Nara Drawings - Nobody Knows
The Hidden Art of Disney's Mid-Century Era - Dieter Ghez
Adrian Berg Retrospective - Marco Livingstone
    Find them here:

    01:26 Yoshitomo Nara
10:13 The Hidden Art of Disney
    22:08 Adrian Berg
    I hope you enjoy them!

Hi Lee, I'm so enjoying your book series. The work you gravitate towards is so different from what I've previously explored on my own, so it's opening my eyes to a lot of artists I wasn't familiar with. Thank you so much for sharing them! :D

I really enjoyed this series, Lovely books. I wonder what other books you have that you enjoy that gives a peek inside artist’s sketchbooks/ art journals like some that you have featured so far.

Sorry if I’ve already mentioned him - but the Adrian Berg book sparked my brain with the memory of standing in an exhibition of Bill Robinson’s work, feeling the same thing you said about your heart. “Isn’t it lovely.” He’s a Queensland based artist and one of my favourites. The perspectives in his work are mind-bending and the light - such an Australian/Queensland light - along with his shapes and colours and humour sometimes. And size. It’s amazing stuff. Loved all three books. Thank you for sharing.

Oh wow, I just looked him up, what amazing work, those perspectives are definitely mind-bending, the ones looking down what appear to be mountainsides or cliffs are vertiginous almost. Thanks so much for sharing, and thank you for watching too! ❤️

@@BonbiForest Yes - vertiginous is the word for it. And in person some of the pieces like that are huge - fill a wall huge - that they seemed to draw me into them. Such a joy to be able to be in the same space as them when I went to Brisbane in 2019. I’m based in New Zealand (Rita Angus… a scroll through her work is a joy too - got to stand in an exhibition full of hundreds of her works once in Wellington - inexpressible joy, and a hint of good old-fashioned envy and desire).

Just adding - I think Rita Angus’ work (spanning much of the 20th century) - captures New Zealand the way Bill Robinson’s captures Queensland. In completely different ways, but they both make me feel like I’m home. In challenging and comforting ways. Perfect. And that’s why I love your work. The joy within it and the way you see things. I really am so glad to be able to hear your perspectives, what captures your imagination and how it influences you. 🌻

I'm a huge fan of Yoshimoto Nara. I used to go to a cafe in Tokyo that had an installation set up in the middle that was like his art studio with sketches pinned everywhere and all the studio mess, even a half drunk cup of coffee like he'd just popped out for a minute. I think it's no longer there unfortunately.

That sounds amazing, I love that sort of installation! ❤️

Very nice selection. I wonder if you have a ‘go-to’ art book for inspiration- one that you go back to again and again.

Thank you, glad you enjoyed the selection ☺️ I don't know if I have one particular one, it depends what mood I am in or trying to get from the inspiration I think!

I'm so sorry to hear that you are having problems with the sound...I record as loudly as I can and have checked on my end and the video seems to be around the same sound as the adverts here.
