    • @GothicElf68

      Letting your animals breed contributes to the overpopulation problem. There are too many animals in shelters and being euthanized as it is. Also, you cannot count on being able to "give away" kittens to friends and relatives. Better to get them fixed and if friends and family want an animal, they can get one at the shelter.

    I tried ignoring my cat for months. His favorite wake me up game is attacking my legs, which he sees as a lump under the blanket. He was drawing blood constantly (even when I would clip his claws), so holding still wasn’t an option no matter how hard I tried! • @CommonInternetLurker
      @CommonInternetLurker 5 ปีที่แล้ว +56

      @@aei3t121 aei3 t Nice to hear that my comment was helpful, but I should mention that my cat is almost 9 years old, we didn't get her into her current routine until she was about a year and a half.
      The routines are similar, but the main difference is feeding. When she was a kitten, she needed to be fed more often but with smaller portions (2 packets of wet food a day: half a packet at 7am, half at 2pm, and full packet about half an hour before you go to bed with no accompanying dry food during the day). 15 minute plays before the smaller meals, and 30-45 minute play before the bigger nighttime feed so they'll sleep through the night.
      Also; a little advice from a seasoned cat parent - depending on the cat, it could take anywhere between a few days to about a fortnight for them to understand their routine. Don't be tempted to give into the demanding meows for more food, they'll try and push their limits to see what they can get away with, and if you give in, it's a slippery slope to cat obesity & diabetes. You need to be firm, they might not like it at first, but if you love your little fluffball, you shouldn't budge. And they'll eventually learn that begging gets them no where lol
      I recommend watching My Cat From Hell for the definite no-no's of cat parenting.
      And if in doubt, Google is your friend :) Have fun and good luck!

    Good to know. I actually feed my cats twice a day. Once at 7am and again at 7pm. I have 3 cats. Only 1 out of the 3 is a problem at night. And it's funny you say ignore them, cuz I already have been by putting in my head phones and listening to relaxing rain or something to help me pass out again and not have to hear the cat and the ignoring has actually worked. He sometimes wakes at night to meow at nothing here and there but it'll only last for about 10 or 15 straight minutes. Then he goes to sleep. Cats are hilarious animals with so much personality it's just very amusing and entertaining to be a cat owner.

    I found a GREAT way to get through that "ignore them" period is to put in ear plugs. Yes that won't stop them from walking on you in bed etc but it WILL block out all the extra noise and help you keep sleeping.

    I used the super nanny technique that is used on human kids. When I was in bed and my cat was up being a pain I would pick him up, put him on his bed and say "bedtime" I kept doing that several times and after the third time I didn't say anything to him, just put him back on his bed. My cat sleeps through the night now. Some mornings he wakes up too early and I tell him "its too early go back to bed" and he does

      philippa hyndman I believe you 100%...People need to learn to speak to their cats on a regular basis...They are exactly like toddlers...If you've babysat toddlers or worked with children, you can manage a cat...On my day off, we all sleep in...My 3 cats never bother me on my day off because, when I get back from work, I tell them, tomorrow is "cuddle-day" we shall sleep all day and watch horror movies....I guess saying that every day before my day off for years has worked...I communicate with my cats a lot; people think it's crazy but I speak English and bits of my native African language to them and they understand me perfectly.

    Hi Jackson Galaxy, I have watched this video multiple times and my cat still won't let me sleep! To be honest ignoring gets hard when she is so stubborn in waking me up to the point of biting, sitting on my head, and pushing my body with her head. It has gotten to the point I have to close her out of the room, however, I feel wrong about that because I think it stems from some boredom and weird form of separation anxiety. I definitely encourage playtime before bed and in the process you mentioned, but 3:00 am hits and she is terrorizing me (with love) and refuses to let me sleep. I got her in May of this year and love her to pieces, but she had a rough beginning in life so I have had to address behaviors overtime, but in general she is so loving and always there for me. Your videos have been a huge help and encouragement in this process. Thank you!

    My cat sleeps in my bed all night, I'm so blessed🥰 I remember when he was a kitten I started closing my bedroom door, turn off the lights & that's it, it took him like 3 nights to understand that it was bed time & there was no more play, he used to lay down his lil head on my hand or my arm or poke my nose with his nose, all before finally surrender & fall asleep🤣

    Love these videos. I always thought it was a dog person until in recent years I've had two cats adopt me one through my sister and another through us or I get sister it just happened. What I thought about 5 years the other arrived only last spring. He was half feral if there's such a thing. At my sister's house he had his come and go with an open window in the basement. My first few months with him here he was whining and crying like a baby every morning before Dawn I wasn't sleeping. Somehow I intuited out to just ignore him and you're right buddy you're right he adapted and you no longer wakes me up so early I'll be at earlier than I used to but I like that. Thanks for validating what I suspected when I wasn't 100% sure. Also thank you for confirming what I just lately started to think about to have set feeding times rather than letting them graze all day which I've been increasingly doing but must stop. Finally so true about how they pick up on our energies on days I feel unsettled or distressed they act the scene and strange and unsettled. But each month ground the other I sure love them oh my God I love them never thought I could just bloody cats but oh my God I love them.

    Hey Jackson, thanks for your precious content. Chewb went from being the sweetest cat on earth to being a cat from hell and your advice are helping a lot.
    She has been sleeping with me every night during years, being extremy cuddly and grooming in bed (but also always moody otherwise, seemed like we had a secret relationship we had to hide in public haha). Until one day, she freaked out and attacked me while I was about to fall asleep. She got so aggressive, I tried to deal with the situation for an hour or so and eventually, I had to leave and go sleep in another room. Since then, things have never been the same again. At some point, I allowed her to sleep with me again. She started to behave weird, like stealing my pillow - I wasnt sure if she wanted to be very close to my head or if she wanted to claim her territory. And she attacked again. And then hell started for real and it's a full story. Now she is under medication, I follow your advice and things are more under control but she still not allowed to sleep with me. I use noise proof headphones and an app with relaxing sounds like waves or forest noise or whatever to be able to sleep while she insist behind the door. Can't wait to go back to normal life :')

It seems to me - at least in my latitude (51* North) that seasonal sunrise and sunset override all else. The one thing I have noticed is that cats will make note of, and at least in part will adapt to, the human routine. Anyway thank you posting this free resource.

    Gonna start trying this because I haven't been sleeping well in about a week now.
    He usually goes to sleep before me or at the same time as me, but this week I don't know what happened (haven't changed any feeding times or anything).
    Hopefully these tips will get him back to his normal sleeping schedule.

    Honestly I just give my cat a fill of dry in the morning with fresh water before I go to work to munch on during the day, when I come home around 6PM I pet him a bit, play if he's in the mood put him outside in a harness in the backyard for an hour, I give him the wet and fresh water, he usually eats 3/4 of the wet then goes to nap, and then comes back later at night for a snack. Then it's bed time. I just go to bed and he comes an hour later to curl up on my feet.
    For me the secret was 1 or 2 hours outside when I come back home. He sneaks up on squirrels and birds, eats some grass, and takes a sunbath, then he comes back in when he's hungry.

    I remember when I first came across this video, my Mikko at the time was waking me at all hours of the night by licking my face and meowing in my face. I played the ignore, like "nope didn't hear/feel that" for what felt like forever. It was SO hard to just ignore because he would do this for a half hour or more EVERY night. I honestly didn't think it was going to work and then it was like someone had flicked a switch in his head and he stopped bothering me. I don't feed them at night, don't play...just zombie walk to and from the bathroom. So I can say with assurance that if you totally ignore the bad night behaviour your cat will stop bothering you.

    Thanks for the tips, Jackson. I hope this will work with an over-excited and playful kitten my friends and I rescued. He was in isolation being treated for trichophyton for weeks and now that it's safe for him to be around us, he's constantly in play mode, ripping our hands and blankets to shreds and purring to kingdom come.

    This has made a world of difference. We love our audio kitties, but they would get really loud and irritating about an hour before we would wake up, or they would get really restless during the night. Now they pass out and we don't hear from them until they hear us. It is super cool to follow the feeding pattern and watch them become more interactive buddies.

      @Gerrit Peacock Yes that's pretty much what i do. She was one of those cats that would probably not be adopted so that's why I have her! She has a lot of anxiety. Not sure about her previous owners or what she had been through but she deserved to live knowing she was safe and loved. It took a long time for her to trust me but now she does and will curl up in my lap and sleep deeply. No more sleeping with one eye open. She knows I love her unconditionally! She can be a stinker sometimes but that was part of the package when I took her into my home and heart. I accept her and she accepts me. We like it that way!👩😸💕

    I tried this the past 2 nights. It worked the first night. Not last night. I played with him and fed him before I went to bed both nights. He didn't even bother me 2 nights ago, so no ignoring necessary. Last night it was kind of hard to ignore him when he tries to bite me (not hard) but it wakes me up. My cat is overall is a really good boy except when I sleep. He meows me to death and tries to bite me. It's like he's a totally different cat at night lol. I did go to bed earlier last night than the night before (only 45 min earlier). I was tired. I couldn't stay awake, ugh. It was always around 5am that he'd bother me. Lately it is around 3:30 to 4am. That is why I had to check out this video 2 days ago. It makes me tired everyday with him waking me up. Maybe cuz since I've had him, I'd give him treats to leave me alone. Idk if it's too late to train him to let me sleep. We have him 8 months now and he just turned 1 on Thanksgiving. I'd even tell my bf to give him treats if he's up and I'm awake in bed from the cat and my Weasley (my cat) knows I am telling my bf to give him snacks. I'll say "babe" and Weasley goes running to the closet where his food is lol. My smart boy

      Seems like our cats are twins in behaviour. Mine has a Dr jackyll and Mr hide personality and at night just wants to play but he does that in a very dangerous (for us) manner. I haven't used him to treats whenever he does that but really no difference at all because the bottom line is I can't sleep and I can't ignore him. I'm really quite desperate

    • @candy4weasley
      @candy4weasley ปีที่แล้ว

      @@monicaandresini8899 yes, he's so different at night. I got automatic feeders recently, a dry and a wet and he's still bothering me these past few nights. Very weird, last week he didn't bother me on the weekdays but he did Sat and Sun night which is usually the opposite cuz the weekends I'm up with him later. It is hard to ignore when they walk on us and meow. It makes us not sleep. I'm so tired right now cuz he kept me up all night again. I am trying to manifest it using the Law of Attraction since I am a LOA coach. I thought I did last week but then he bothered me again. Maybe the universe us testing my reaction to him. Our bedroom doesn't have a door. It was dining room covered into a bedroom. We like having no door but if we has one, he'd meow outside of it but then at least he won't walk on me but what if he does something bad to get attention. I'd let him in and out him out if he bothers me, so he learns he is going out when he bothers me.

    My cats have always had a clear bedtime/wakeup routine. I'm very lucky in that the older one has always, ever since she was a kitten, trusted that I would feed her when it was time, and only has woken me up when I've set an alarm that I slept through (she's a good kitty and likes to take care of me as much as I take care of her). The little one is far pushier than the big one, but a routine was established very early. I used to hold her to my chest at night when I first got her because she figured out how to escape the crate and she was trouble with a capital T if left unattended when she first came home. She started to associate this cuddle time with bedtime, so now whenever I lay down, she knows it's time for sleep and comes to curl up with me. While she doesn't wake me up, she'll often watch my face for the first sign I'm starting to stir and the moment I wake up, she's ready for breakfast. She's started lately wanting morning cuddles before breakfast though, so that's bonus cuddle time!

    EARPLUGS are a WONDERFUL thing while you're COMPLETELY ignoring your cat(s)!! I can personally attest to this. My cat had an AWFUL meowing habit ALL HOURS OF THE NIGHT & it drove me nuts!! After a few sleepless nights I was finally able to sleep like a BABY!! No lie, drool & all. 😂 Then after about a week ½ of earplugs to help me sleep through her incessant meowing she FINALLY stopped!

    Jackson, how do you regulate your cat's eating and sleeping habits when your own vary from day to day? I'll work a night shift, forcing me to sleep when they rightfully want to be up and playing. This will change from day to day, maybe next I'll be working all day, still groggy from the night before. I'm home, I'm not home. I can't even take my HBP med at same time daily( or nightly). I am putting my cats through hell, even though I do it all for them, to keep a roof over our heads and stay off the streets. I don't deserve them!

(my mama calico MIGHT have been an adoption candidate for a "not my first rodeo" cat person, but my not-a-kitten and his gone-too-soon sis were deemed "unadoptable due to contact skittishness" by the local FERAL crew. it took about two months of just babbling at him, respecting physical boundaries other than taking the occasional opportunity to do the closest human equivalent to body or cheekmarking, but he is now the cuddliest bb i have EVER had and before we lost her she reached "princess floof with a Harley-volume purr who was SO chill we seriously thought about seeing if we could get her therapy or emotional support-certified.)
