I don't think any of these choices are actually bad, and that they are all at least kinda cool, but the problem with it, is that they're prioritizing secondary and unnecessary addition instead of the "missing" picks like characters from new shows like Timmy, Otis and Miko, and more relevant characters than the ones chosen from alerady represented shows like Skullker, Zuko and Arnold, it's like adding Piranha Plant in Smash Melee before Princess Peach and Bowser It's especially egregious if we are indeed getting 11 cut characters like everything is pointing to so far, and it'll be even worse if the alerady expensive DLC is filled with those missing veteran characters
Not sure how Ember McClain is an unnecessary pick. She's extremely popular even with people who didn't watch the show, and is one of the more iconic show's villains. It makes sense for her to pop up. She's not some obscure pick and 6 appearances for a villain of the week story isn't bad at all.
In fan community polls, Ember was the second highest voted Danny Phantom character behind Vlad. Do some research. Relevancy doesn't mean anything even in Smash, because if it did, K. Rool and Banjo certainly wouldn't be there, they only got in due to fan demand - just like Ember.
Luna over Ember ? Hell nah. I strongly disagree. Ember might have not been a bunch of episodes, but she's still memorable. You should see how much fanart comes up when searching her on google images or even on Twitter. Invader Zim also had controversy as well, but that didn't stop the devs from adding him. I do think it's strange that they decided to use Gerald & Grandma Gertie. I'm pissed Helga is now unplayable. It feels like those two replaced her. Then what's also strange is they didn't choose to add Arnold into the game. I'm starting to think that the devs just aren't interested in him. I don't really get the whole Arnold is a pacifist argument when we literally have Garfield & Rocko in the game. Garfield is a fat lazy ass cat and Rocko wouldn't even hurt a fly. I feel like NASB fans only came up with that lame ass excuse of Arnold being a pacfist just because they don't really too much care for him. I love Azula, but I'm surpised they chose her over Zuko. I do agree that 2000s and 2010s shows should be represented more. Hell, even in Nickelodeon Kart Racers. I wish Nickelodeon would just go all out with the budget for both games, so we can see literally every Nicktoon represented.

As someone who has never watched Danny Phantom, I know who Ember is, and I don't know those other characters you mentioned, so she is definitely more popular than you think she is. While I definitely think they should add some more newer reps the truth is the older shows are more popular. It could use some more diversification in terms of shows and eras of Nickelodeon but it is in no way a bad roster. I would love to see Rocket Power get a rep too, maybe we could at least get a stage of the skatepark or something.
I know this is supposed to be an analytical take on this game but i just can't take it seriously when we're discussing the misrepresentation on a nickelodeon fighting game, i just think that's funny as hell to me.
Ember's always been disproportionately popular compared to how relevant she actually was. It was the case back in the mid 2000s when the show was running, and has been the case in the decades since. There are uploads of her song on this site that have accumulated millions of views. There's a reason the three Danny Phantom character Funko Pops in existence are Danny, Vlad, and Ember. In various fan polls of characters people wanted in the game posted on Reddit, the only Danny Phantom characters who ever placed are Ember and Vlad. Box Ghost, Skulker, Valerie, and other DP characters can't boast the same. (Even though I don't doubt they'd be fun picks in their own right.) Ember's simply more popular than every other of Danny's enemies besides Vlad. People remember her, which I suppose is rather fitting. Plus looking at the rest roster of the roster, Skulker's little dude in a big mech suit gimmick is something Plankton already does. And as far as meme characters go, there's already Nigel and Gertie pushing Box Ghost out. (For the record it was apparently Nick themselves pushing for her according to one of the playtesters. Which is a big uhhhhhh to me too, but corporations are like that.) So at least Ember can carve out a swordie/Palutena niche as a weapon user with a diverse set of things she can do.
Idk if Skulker is one to one "a little guy in a mech" like Plankton. Skulker's not as big as Plankton's mech and you hardly see Skulker's true form when he's fighting. He's more like Samus than Plankton who's closer to Bowser Jr.

Taking issue with ember and azula is crazy sorry. No Danny phantom fan has an issue. I’d def rather have her over skulker or box ghost. She doesn’t have the most appearances (honestly it being 6 surprised me) but she’s iconic to the show. And I don’t take it as a given zuko would get in over azula. If you’re only doing one firebender (and having two avatars means you already have two characters with orange fire in their moveset), may as well pick the more visually interesting villain.

I understand that the 2010's shows aren't as recognizable as the 90's-2000's shows, but they still have a great audience who would like to see some of the newer shows besides Korra or TMNT. How about characters from Sanjay and Craig, Harvey Beaks, Welcome to the Wayne, It's Pony? I love the characters on those shows and they could easily translate into a fighting game like this. It would be cool seeing Pony or Harvey fighting Ren and Stimpy.

The reason Nick stopped using Fairly Oddparents for console videogames is because Disney somehow got their hands with the distribution of the IP via meddling with Nelvana. They acquired channels around the world to make them into Disney XD and they inherited the distribution rights of all of those, including the ones with deals with Nelvana. For i Nick, the IP is no longer a "full" nicktoon since then.

Although by judging from the possible roster, I wouldn't mind seeing Ember chosen as another DP rep, because she's a fan-favourite. It's so disappointing to see Helga has been disconfirmed, leaving as a background character from Hillwood Lockjaw stage. Like I said from before, I mean Gerald and Arnold's grandma? I love how many people are getting up in arms about era representation in the Nickelodeon fighting game as if the company hasn't been pushing older nostalgic properties and characters over the newer ones in marketing and merchandising since time immemorial.
The cutting of Lincoln, Shredder, and CatDog, paired with the (continued) lack of Timmy, isn't excusable. How do you cut these fighters and add show-stoppers like, "Arnold's Grandma," "Not Zuko," and "rocker girl known from that one episode?" It's ridiculous. It's a shame, because everything else seems like an objective step up. I can live with some of the cuts, and rarely do I care about roster stupidity, but...they cut some of the biggest characters on the fucking network, regardless of your opinion on them, for stupid memes and characters aimed at geriatrics (even then, it's confusing - why are we keeping April over Shredder?). I also am worried for the cut characters, cuz we saw Helga in the background of a stage. However for example, there are 3 Loud House stages confirmed. They wouldn't only give Lucy as a rep then. I just hope there is an explanation for Helga and that all the veterans return, but just aren't on the title screen
it sucks that not only did they add raph and donnie but completely forgot mike and leonardo of the TMNT, but they only brought back shredder as a NPC boss (a complete inverse of ridley being made playable in smash).
I feel the problem of Nick All Stars is more a flex of "hey look at this character! Look at what cool thing we did here! Isn't this one interesting!?" When most people don't care and just want to see their favorite cartoons and/or mascot in the game. They're trying so hard not to be Smash 64 and avoiding stuffing the roster full of poster children like the plague, but that's exactly what they should be doing. These characters are Iconic for a reason and they are what will sell copies. I'm not sorry, but Arnold himself will sell far more than Grandma Gertie, Danny will sell more than Ember, Lincoln will sell more than Lucy and etc, etc, the list goes on.

Also you keep bringing up 2010s characters to complain about 90s characters and like, I liked those shows, tons of them, but nobody wants Sanjay and Craig over ember or even Gertie. Loud house is the only thing of note nick has made in the last decade. Most other things barely last a season. They should pick ember all day over pig banana goat cricket. 2010s is practically the dark ages for iconic nicktoons. No one gets on smash for having too many 80s characters, nick stuff is for 90s nostalgia.

I heard that the reason Grandma Gertie is in this game is because Nickelodeon themselves wanted her. And they could’ve obviously said no but this feels like either a compromise for Nick giving them more money to make the game actually good or it’s to appease Nick. So, yeah.... I don’t like her inclusion either since she probably replaced my main Helga but her moveset seems fun.

Tbh i agree with you on some of these points as i get this is a completely new game but they could've taken the time to remake all the movesets for all of the original roster instead of cutting 11 of the original roster but the roster isn't really bad due to the devs choices Nickelodeon and other people from the corporation also wanted some of these characters and the devs had no choice they were told to add characters from different shows and they have to they are using Nickelodeon's characters so they also have to follow their commands on certain characters getting in so its your opinion i ain't judging that but it also isn't really their fault when they have to add characters that Nickelodeon tells them to add
Can't comment on much except the Loud House, but re:Lincoln Apparently he was actually the least played character in NASB1. He was mained by some notable people, but overall, virtually no one chose to play him, and the devs themselves didn't care much for him. Comparatively, the devs _actively fought Nickelodeon_ to get Lucy (and others like Nigel) into NASB1 for _months_ and won through attrition. Get this: Nickelodeon mandated that Lincoln _has_ to appear in the game, but didn't explicitly state he has to be _playable_ Re: No other Loud sisters? That was more a dev decision as Lucy was the one the devs preferred for NASB1 and they had no mandates for any of them except Lucy in NASB2 (for a reason I'll explain later on). And yes, they overwhelmingly prefer 90s and early 2000s Nicktoons, so there was a heavy bias against the Loud House as just about every archetype the sisters most likely to join could have filled instead went to retro Nickelodeon characters they felt were better or more interesting. Luna and Luan would both have been the most likely to get in if any of the sisters do, but Ember completely screwed Luna's chances. And despite the fact she is popular in the Loud House, Ember _was_ actually very widely requested, dwarfing Luna overall. And not even just due to Randy Stair. Apparently despite Ember only appearing a tiny few number of times in Danny Phantom, she was widely considered one of the most popular characters in the show. To put it another way, Randy Stair did what he did _because_ of how popular and loved she was; it wasn't a phenomenon that came after. Furthermore, if anyone else from the Loud House gets in, it might not actually be a Loud sister but rather Ronnie Anne, just because "normal/bully girl" is no longer a fulfilled niche now that Helga is out. "Lincoln getting in again?" AFAIK, the devs do not want to resell any of the cut characters as DLC, at least at this moment. And Lincoln still has the same problem he had in NASB1 where the devs just don't care for him. There's a chance of something happening next year involving the Loud House that gives Lincoln a far more interesting potential moveset, but considering how far out that is, that's something that'll more likely play into NASB3. As for why Lucy seems to have all the attention lately, she's actually the most popular sister according to an internal poll at Nickelodeon that leaked fairly recently gauging which sisters are the favorites and best picks to lead a spinoff, and it's not even close. Now hold on there. When I say "it's not even close," oof, I mean she is so ridiculously far ahead of second place that the gap between her and 2nd place is _bigger_ than the gap between second place and last place- in a 10-girl-race. And the gap between second and last place is by _well over twenty points_ Lucy's apparently _that_ much of a breakout hit, at least with kids. Furthermore, a pitch bible exists for such spinoff starring the sisters. Originally Lisa was the "head" of it because the network was banking on her being their breakout star sister, ("supergenius kid" characters are easy to write for for a kid's show and they have a history with one of the most famous of them) but Lucy stole the show among kids, and then Wednesday debuted and swept it up (but the network is hesitant about Lucy's potential and thus pitched an anthology series about all the sisters). So Lucy's continued focus is likely due to her being the de-facto star of a spinoff yet to debut.
They probably intentionally left out characters like Timmy, Snap, Zuko, and Otto because they wanted them to be DLCs because they know characters like them people really wanted and are willing to buy their DLCs even if they're expensive. But, that doesn't mean they needed to add characters like Grandma, Ember, Azula, and Gerald and they didn't need to bring back characters like April O'Neil, Garfield, and Nigel either. Instead of those 3, the only other characters they should have brought are back Lincoln Loud and CatDog. Hey Arnold is a famous show, but they should have used just Arnold instead Gerald and Grandma Gertie. And, if they need more female characters (which is probably why they included Amber and Azula), then they could use characters like Eliza, Reggie, Miko, Luna, and Frida. Also, Ickis would have been a good character

This roster is like if they added piranha plant in melee and then fuckin Lakitu and a Parakoopa, then instead of Zelda, they put in Epona because instead of making their fans happy, they wanted to look quirky and fucking hilarious and random . Its not even hard man. Spongebob, Danny, Timmy and Jimmy, make those your front men, your Mario, Link, Kirby and Pikachu equivalents. Boom, everything else is free game. EXEPT ITS NOT, because the devs are 90s kids and they're not remotely shy about showing it. A lot of the problem with adding the 90s characters, is that most of that era was slice of life sitcoms and there designs don't translate to fighting exceptionally well. The only way I could think of them working is if they thought out of the box and got funny with it. Tommy Pickles would unironically be the greatest joke character of all time simply for the fact that he is a baby. Like what if they on purpose made him an S tier and people were regularly raging because another Tommy Pickles is 3 stocking them and then start shouting "YESSSSSSSS" when they finally start beating the ever loving shit out of an infant. That's a joke character + a veratrin cartoon + a creative way to make a mundane fighter interesting, that isn't just adding a million references to their move sets. One other thing, I think having Garfield and TMNT in the game is tacky and they don't feel like Nick shows. Now I think TMNT is forced to be in the game due to Nick seeing it as a game seller, but Garfield is a comic strip character, idk why tf anyone chose him over any other character. Its like if they made marvel 3 and the DLC character they chose to put in the game was batman, it would just mess with the vibe. This shit just makes the game feel like its modded or like its muggen, In conclusion, I'm not buying the game and I don't even have the first one lmao. Early code for Bayonetta was seemingly found in Smash 4's code from as early as Spring 2015, making a good estimation that both her and Corrin were worked on before Fate's initial release (since they both came out simultaneously). Corrin's release was to market Fates and to add more fuel to the fire, Fates itself released with very mixed reception from both Japanese fans as well as the rest of the world, making it hard to believe that Corrin's implementation wasn't simply a marketing decision.

It says there that Corrin almost didn't make it into Smash 4, as Sakurai had thought there were already too many Fire Emblem characters in the game. However, after the critical and commercial success of Fire Emblem Fates in Japan and in anticipation for the game's worldwide localization, the Smash team convinced him that Corrin would be a unique addition to the roster, so Sakurai allowed him to be playable. Yes people complain about the story, but that didn't stop IGN for giving the game a 9.5 out of 10. In other words the Smash team ONLY appreciates critical reception rather than fan reception. However, the starting discussion that led to the team's decision was to add a character from a soon to be released game, which is why I said it was to promote FE. @@steelraids Thankfully after doing some research on Fire Emblem there is a gameplay reason for Corrin's inclusion. With the exception of Roy and Chrom, the Fire Emblem characters in Smash, represent different classes. Corrin's powers are based on the Manakete, which are characters from the FE series that can turn into dragons. The problem is Corrin is very weird compared to the others, so that begs the question why not put in Tiki???? The problem is that not only are the ManaKetes are too big for Smash???? It's really hard to have a character turn into a dragon in a fighting game and not have that be overpowered???? So Corrin's weird shape shifting was easier to design. Yeah Sakurai can go overboard with compromising in order to keep the game balanced.

Yeah no. The 90's get represented the most. Because the 90's and 2000's were the golden age of Nickelodeon. They were the time for cartoons. So they want to use characters that represent the Golden age. And yes. I get it. Timmy Turner not being in the game is sad. But honestly. Danny Phantom characters work better. I think Grandma Gertie is the perfect WTF character. She has a **ton** of source material to work with, and she’s just hilarious. Besides, every fighting game has to have characters that people didn’t know they wanted (such as Oblina and Powdered Toast Man in NASB1), otherwise the roster would feel too safe and corporate.
Personally I agree with what you say Though I love the 90s inclusion s from shows like TMNT and Hey Arnold,I feel like they went all out either adding new reps to shows or new characters…from another 90s show I loved those cartoons but I also enjoy the 2000/2010 shows that aired My personal pick to be added is Sanjay and Craig.The first season wasn’t the best but every season after gets better and better and it’s actually a good show! I honestly agree with this video. I really, really, REALLY wanted to be excited for this game since the initial rumors prior to the first trailer, but this roster does nothing for me and it really soured my hype completely. Most of the newcomer choices weren't that good and there's certainly a lot of questionable omissions. Out of all the newcomers, I think it's universally agreed upon that Jimmy and Squidward were very deserving of having a slot on the roster. Both of these characters were very heavily requested by the community and they're iconic in their own right. Squidward is one of the most popular characters from Nickelodeon's flagship show, and Jimmy is one of the most iconic protagonists from one of their most popular 2000's cartoons. Very deserving picks. And then that's when this roster kind of goes downhill for me. Donatello and Raphael would have been very good choices if they didn't replace the other two turtles with them. I just feel like it kind of defeats the purpose as to why Donnie and Raph were requested in the first place; people wanted them in so that they could have all four turtles in the game, not because people actually preferred them over the other two we already had. It just feels like a very tone deaf decision. El Tigre is admittedly a pretty cool pick. I never watched the show myself, but it's clear that this show has become sort of a cult classic within the Nickelodeon community and he has had his fair share of demand on top of that. Compared to most other representatives and other cut veterans though, I don't really think El Tigre should have gotten in over them. I honestly don't really mind the Angry Beavers either, I always appreciate having even more Nicktoons getting some sort of representation in this game. I just feel like they weren't as necessary compared to other reps we could have gotten and it's especially baffling when you consider that CatDog and Oblina are potentially on the chopping block, despite the fact that those two characters are arguably more recognizable than the Beavers. While I don't hate Ember's inclusion as much as you do, it's still not really an amazing pick. I never really watched Danny Phantom, but the fact that she was only in 6 episodes just kind of soured my opinion on her a little bit. I think she has a pretty interesting moveset, but I just don't think she was necessary to include over other characters we haven't seen yet, or even over most other Danny Phantom villains. The fact that Vlad may be stuck as a boss while Ember was included over him is even worse. I don't personally care about Azula since I'm one of the very few non-Avatar fans, but even I can agree that Zuko would have been a much better representative then she is. Zuko was far more requested and I think that alone should have made him a much bigger priority. I can see her having some sort of presence in the story mode given her status as a villain, but it definitely doesn't make her inclusion any less annoying. Her inclusion is made only worse when you consider that Toph is also likely on the chopping block as well, and that will only once again omit one of the nations from being represented (which was another problem with the first game's roster) And simply put, I don't really like Gerald and Gertie's inclusions all that much. The Hey Arnold representation was already questionable in the first game due to the inclusion of Helga over Arnold, but the representation in this game is even weirder. Not only is Helga likely cut (due to being in Gertie's stage), but Gerald and Gertie quite frankly doesn't represent the show all that well. Gerald seems like such a blank slate of a character and I have no idea what the hell he could do that could make him even remotely interesting, and while Gertie seems like a fun choice, it really annoys me that she was prioritized over characters who objectively deserved a spot over her. It really just seemed like the devs wanted to capitalize on the hype of Hugh's inclusion without any of that meme magic/fan demand that Hugh had. It doesn't help that nobody really asked for her. I mean, at least Helga fits in as a fighting game character; Gerald and Gertie just seem so unnecessary to me. And I still haven't gone over the rest of the cuts, as there's quite a few noticeable omissions. Cutting Hugh after the massive fan campaign that he had is such a slap in the face to not just Mark DeCarlo, but the NASB community as a whole who actively requested for him. While Squidward may have been a better third SpongeBob rep, it still seems so weird that Sandy isn't here, especially since she really fits in as a fighting game character. I'm not a TMNT fan in the slightest, but it's very clear that the devs are down bad when they include April O'Neil over Shredder lol. PTM is probably the character that makes the most sense to cut, but I won't deny that it would still sting very hard if we do end up losing him. Easily the most offensive cut in my opinion is Lincoln Loud. Say what you want about the Loud House and Lincoln's gameplay from the first game; their should have been no reason AT ALL as to why he should've been cut when he's the main character from Nickelodeon's second most popular cartoon at the moment. Cutting Lincoln is almost like the equivalent of cutting Link or Kirby in Smash. It just doesn't make sense and he should have been a much bigger priority than most of the characters we ended up getting. This was an extremely long comment but I thought this was the perfect opportunity to air everything out. This roster just isn't very good in my opinion and it only reinstates the already lingering issues the first game's roster had. I just hope that most of these strange roster decisions can be addressed with the DLC, because the DLC has GOT to be good with that high of a price point in mind.
The literal only job a game like this is has, is good representation, it's arguably more important than the gameplay itself. There is literally no aspect more valid to complain about

According to insider information, the same insiders who leaked the entire game so there's no reason to not believe in what they say, Arnold's grandma was suggested by one of the devs, Nickelodeon just liked the idea enough to put her on the list of characters that the devs can choose from.

I don't think any of these choices are actually bad, and that they are all at least kinda cool, but the problem with it, is that they're prioritizing secondary and unnecessary addition instead of the "missing" picks like characters from new shows like Timmy, Otis and Miko, and more relevant characters than the ones chosen from alerady represented shows like Skullker, Zuko and Arnold, it's like adding Piranha Plant in Smash Melee before Princess Peach and Bowser
It's especially egregious if we are indeed getting 11 cut characters like everything is pointing to so far, and it'll be even worse if the alerady expensive DLC is filled with those missing veteran characters
Not sure how Ember McClain is an unnecessary pick. She's extremely popular even with people who didn't watch the show, and is one of the more iconic show's villains. It makes sense for her to pop up. She's not some obscure pick and 6 appearances for a villain of the week story isn't bad at all.
In fan community polls, Ember was the second highest voted Danny Phantom character behind Vlad. Do some research. Relevancy doesn't mean anything even in Smash, because if it did, K. Rool and Banjo certainly wouldn't be there, they only got in due to fan demand - just like Ember.
Luna over Ember ? Hell nah. I strongly disagree. Ember might have not been a bunch of episodes, but she's still memorable. You should see how much fanart comes up when searching her on google images or even on Twitter. Invader Zim also had controversy as well, but that didn't stop the devs from adding him. I do think it's strange that they decided to use Gerald & Grandma Gertie. I'm pissed Helga is now unplayable. It feels like those two replaced her. Then what's also strange is they didn't choose to add Arnold into the game. I'm starting to think that the devs just aren't interested in him. I don't really get the whole Arnold is a pacifist argument when we literally have Garfield & Rocko in the game. Garfield is a fat lazy ass cat and Rocko wouldn't even hurt a fly. I feel like NASB fans only came up with that lame ass excuse of Arnold being a pacfist just because they don't really too much care for him. I love Azula, but I'm surpised they chose her over Zuko. I do agree that 2000s and 2010s shows should be represented more. Hell, even in Nickelodeon Kart Racers. I wish Nickelodeon would just go all out with the budget for both games, so we can see literally every Nicktoon represented.

As someone who has never watched Danny Phantom, I know who Ember is, and I don't know those other characters you mentioned, so she is definitely more popular than you think she is.
While I definitely think they should add some more newer reps the truth is the older shows are more popular. It could use some more diversification in terms of shows and eras of Nickelodeon but it is in no way a bad roster.
I would love to see Rocket Power get a rep too, maybe we could at least get a stage of the skatepark or something.

Ember's always been disproportionately popular compared to how relevant she actually was. It was the case back in the mid 2000s when the show was running, and has been the case in the decades since. There are uploads of her song on this site that have accumulated millions of views. There's a reason the three Danny Phantom character Funko Pops in existence are Danny, Vlad, and Ember. In various fan polls of characters people wanted in the game posted on Reddit, the only Danny Phantom characters who ever placed are Ember and Vlad. Box Ghost, Skulker, Valerie, and other DP characters can't boast the same. (Even though I don't doubt they'd be fun picks in their own right.) Ember's simply more popular than every other of Danny's enemies besides Vlad. People remember her, which I suppose is rather fitting.
Plus looking at the rest roster of the roster, Skulker's little dude in a big mech suit gimmick is something Plankton already does. And as far as meme characters go, there's already Nigel and Gertie pushing Box Ghost out. (For the record it was apparently Nick themselves pushing for her according to one of the playtesters. Which is a big uhhhhhh to me too, but corporations are like that.) So at least Ember can carve out a swordie/Palutena niche as a weapon user with a diverse set of things she can do.
Idk if Skulker is one to one "a little guy in a mech" like Plankton. Skulker's not as big as Plankton's mech and you hardly see Skulker's true form when he's fighting. He's more like Samus than Plankton who's closer to Bowser Jr.

Taking issue with ember and azula is crazy sorry. No Danny phantom fan has an issue. I’d def rather have her over skulker or box ghost. She doesn’t have the most appearances (honestly it being 6 surprised me) but she’s iconic to the show. And I don’t take it as a given zuko would get in over azula. If you’re only doing one firebender (and having two avatars means you already have two characters with orange fire in their moveset), may as well pick the more visually interesting villain.

How about characters from Sanjay and Craig, Harvey Beaks, Welcome to the Wayne, It's Pony? I love the characters on those shows and they could easily translate into a fighting game like this. It would be cool seeing Pony or Harvey fighting Ren and Stimpy.

The reason Nick stopped using Fairly Oddparents for console videogames is because Disney somehow got their hands with the distribution of the IP via meddling with Nelvana. They acquired channels around the world to make them into Disney XD and they inherited the distribution rights of all of those, including the ones with deals with Nelvana.
For i Nick, the IP is no longer a "full" nicktoon since then.

Although by judging from the possible roster, I wouldn't mind seeing Ember chosen as another DP rep, because she's a fan-favourite. It's so disappointing to see Helga has been disconfirmed, leaving as a background character from Hillwood Lockjaw stage. Like I said from before, I mean Gerald and Arnold's grandma? It completely makes no sense. Helga supposed to be in the base roster, because of how aggressive she is than more than Gerald or Gertie. If it wasn't for Gerald being chosen, I rather see Dib as a realistic choice.
I love how many people are getting up in arms about era representation in the Nickelodeon fighting game as if the company hasn't been pushing older nostalgic properties and characters over the newer ones in marketing and merchandising since time immemorial.
The cutting of Lincoln, Shredder, and CatDog, paired with the (continued) lack of Timmy, isn't excusable. How do you cut these fighters and add show-stoppers like, "Arnold's Grandma," "Not Zuko," and "rocker girl known from that one episode?" It's ridiculous.
It's a shame, because everything else seems like an objective step up. I can live with some of the cuts, and rarely do I care about roster stupidity, but...they cut some of the biggest characters on the fucking network, regardless of your opinion on them, for stupid memes and characters aimed at geriatrics (even then, it's confusing - why are we keeping April over Shredder?). The only character I kinda don’t understand is Grandma Gertie. I have to disagree. I feel most of the dlc characters will be 2000s characters. Ember sure has been in 6 episodes but they can still use the character. Azula being on the game for a Avatar villain rep. I feel the problem of Nick All Stars is more a flex of "hey look at this character! Look at what cool thing we did here! Isn't this one interesting!?" When most people don't care and just want to see their favorite cartoons and/or mascot in the game. They're trying so hard not to be Smash 64 and avoiding stuffing the roster full of poster children like the plague, but that's exactly what they should be doing. These characters are Iconic for a reason and they are what will sell copies. I'm not sorry, but Arnold himself will sell far more than Grandma Gertie, Danny will sell more than Ember, Lincoln will sell more than Lucy and etc, etc, the list goes on.

Loud house is the only thing of note nick has made in the last decade. Most other things barely last a season. They should pick ember all day over pig banana goat cricket. 2010s is practically the dark ages for iconic nicktoons. No one gets on smash for having too many 80s characters, nick stuff is for 90s nostalgia.

Apparently he was actually the least played character in NASB1. He was mained by some notable people, but overall, virtually no one chose to play him, and the devs themselves didn't care much for him. Comparatively, the devs _actively fought Nickelodeon_ to get Lucy (and others like Nigel) into NASB1 for _months_ and won through attrition.
Get this: Nickelodeon mandated that Lincoln _has_ to appear in the game, but didn't explicitly state he has to be _playable_

That was more a dev decision as Lucy was the one the devs preferred for NASB1 and they had no mandates for any of them except Lucy in NASB2 (for a reason I'll explain later on). And yes, they overwhelmingly prefer 90s and early 2000s Nicktoons, so there was a heavy bias against the Loud House as just about every archetype the sisters most likely to join could have filled instead went to retro Nickelodeon characters they felt were better or more interesting.
Luna and Luan would both have been the most likely to get in if any of the sisters do, but Ember completely screwed Luna's chances. And despite the fact she is popular in the Loud House, Ember _was_ actually very widely requested, dwarfing Luna overall. And not even just due to Randy Stair. Apparently despite Ember only appearing a tiny few number of times in Danny Phantom, she was widely considered one of the most popular characters in the show. To put it another way, Randy Stair did what he did _because_ of how popular and loved she was; it wasn't a phenomenon that came after.
Furthermore, if anyone else from the Loud House gets in, it might not actually be a Loud sister but rather Ronnie Anne, just because "normal/bully girl" is no longer a fulfilled niche now that Helga is out.
"Lincoln getting in again?" AFAIK, the devs do not want to resell any of the cut characters as DLC, at least at this moment. And Lincoln still has the same problem he had in NASB1 where the devs just don't care for him. There's a chance of something happening next year involving the Loud House that gives Lincoln a far more interesting potential moveset, but considering how far out that is, that's something that'll more likely play into NASB3.
As for why Lucy seems to have all the attention lately, she's actually the most popular sister according to an internal poll at Nickelodeon that leaked fairly recently gauging which sisters are the favorites and best picks to lead a spinoff, and it's not even close.
Now hold on there. When I say "it's not even close," oof, I mean she is so ridiculously far ahead of second place that the gap between her and 2nd place is _bigger_ than the gap between second place and last place- in a 10-girl-race. And the gap between second and last place is by _well over twenty points_
Lucy's apparently _that_ much of a breakout hit, at least with kids.
Furthermore, a pitch bible exists for such spinoff starring the sisters. Originally Lisa was the "head" of it because the network was banking on her being their breakout star sister, ("supergenius kid" characters are easy to write for for a kid's show and they have a history with one of the most famous of them) but Lucy stole the show among kids, and then Wednesday debuted and swept it up (but the network is hesitant about Lucy's potential and thus pitched an anthology series about all the sisters). So Lucy's continued focus is likely due to her being the de-facto star of a spinoff yet to debut.
They probably intentionally left out characters like Timmy, Snap, Zuko, and Otto because they wanted them to be DLCs because they know characters like them people really wanted and are willing to buy their DLCs even if they're expensive. But, that doesn't mean they needed to add characters like Grandma, Ember, Azula, and Gerald and they didn't need to bring back characters like April O'Neil, Garfield, and Nigel either. Instead of those 3, the only other characters they should have brought are back Lincoln Loud and CatDog. Hey Arnold is a famous show, but they should have used just Arnold instead Gerald and Grandma Gertie. And, if they need more female characters (which is probably why they included Amber and Azula), then they could use characters like Eliza, Reggie, Miko, Luna, and Frida. Also, Ickis would have been a good character

A lot of the problem with adding the 90s characters, is that most of that era was slice of life sitcoms and there designs don't translate to fighting exceptionally well. The only way I could think of them working is if they thought out of the box and got funny with it. Tommy Pickles would unironically be the greatest joke character of all time simply for the fact that he is a baby. Like what if they on purpose made him an S tier and people were regularly raging because another Tommy Pickles is 3 stocking them and then start shouting "YESSSSSSSS" when they finally start beating the ever loving shit out of an infant. That's a joke character + a veratrin cartoon + a creative way to make a mundane fighter interesting, that isn't just adding a million references to their move sets.
One other thing, I think having Garfield and TMNT in the game is tacky and they don't feel like Nick shows. Now I think TMNT is forced to be in the game due to Nick seeing it as a game seller, but Garfield is a comic strip character, idk why tf anyone chose him over any other character. Its like if they made marvel 3 and the DLC character they chose to put in the game was batman, it would just mess with the vibe. This shit just makes the game feel like its modded or like its muggen,

With the exception of Roy and Chrom, the Fire Emblem characters in Smash, represent different classes. Corrin's powers are based on the Manakete, which are characters from the FE series that can turn into dragons. The problem is Corrin is very weird compared to the others, so that begs the question why not put in Tiki????
The problem is that not only are the ManaKetes are too big for Smash???? It's really hard to have a character turn into a dragon in a fighting game and not have that be overpowered???? So Corrin's weird shape shifting was easier to design.

I think Grandma Gertie is the perfect WTF character. She has a **ton** of source material to work with, and she’s just hilarious. Besides, every fighting game has to have characters that people didn’t know they wanted (such as Oblina and Powdered Toast Man in NASB1), otherwise the roster would feel too safe and corporate.

I honestly agree with this video. I really, really, REALLY wanted to be excited for this game since the initial rumors prior to the first trailer, but this roster does nothing for me and it really soured my hype completely.
Most of the newcomer choices weren't that good and there's certainly a lot of questionable omissions.
Out of all the newcomers, I think it's universally agreed upon that Jimmy and Squidward were very deserving of having a slot on the roster. Both of these characters were very heavily requested by the community and they're iconic in their own right. Squidward is one of the most popular characters from Nickelodeon's flagship show, and Jimmy is one of the most iconic protagonists from one of their most popular 2000's cartoons. Very deserving picks.
And then that's when this roster kind of goes downhill for me. Donatello and Raphael would have been very good choices if they didn't replace the other two turtles with them. I just feel like it kind of defeats the purpose as to why Donnie and Raph were requested in the first place; people wanted them in so that they could have all four turtles in the game, not because people actually preferred them over the other two we already had. It just feels like a very tone deaf decision.
El Tigre is admittedly a pretty cool pick. I never watched the show myself, but it's clear that this show has become sort of a cult classic within the Nickelodeon community and he has had his fair share of demand on top of that. Compared to most other representatives and other cut veterans though, I don't really think El Tigre should have gotten in over them.
I honestly don't really mind the Angry Beavers either, I always appreciate having even more Nicktoons getting some sort of representation in this game. I just feel like they weren't as necessary compared to other reps we could have gotten and it's especially baffling when you consider that CatDog and Oblina are potentially on the chopping block, despite the fact that those two characters are arguably more recognizable than the Beavers.
While I don't hate Ember's inclusion as much as you do, it's still not really an amazing pick. I never really watched Danny Phantom, but the fact that she was only in 6 episodes just kind of soured my opinion on her a little bit. I think she has a pretty interesting moveset, but I just don't think she was necessary to include over other characters we haven't seen yet, or even over most other Danny Phantom villains. The fact that Vlad may be stuck as a boss while Ember was included over him is even worse.
I don't personally care about Azula since I'm one of the very few non-Avatar fans, but even I can agree that Zuko would have been a much better representative then she is. Zuko was far more requested and I think that alone should have made him a much bigger priority. I can see her having some sort of presence in the story mode given her status as a villain, but it definitely doesn't make her inclusion any less annoying. Her inclusion is made only worse when you consider that Toph is also likely on the chopping block as well, and that will only once again omit one of the nations from being represented (which was another problem with the first game's roster)
And simply put, I don't really like Gerald and Gertie's inclusions all that much. The Hey Arnold representation was already questionable in the first game due to the inclusion of Helga over Arnold, but the representation in this game is even weirder. Not only is Helga likely cut (due to being in Gertie's stage), but Gerald and Gertie quite frankly doesn't represent the show all that well. Gerald seems like such a blank slate of a character and I have no idea what the hell he could do that could make him even remotely interesting, and while Gertie seems like a fun choice, it really annoys me that she was prioritized over characters who objectively deserved a spot over her. It really just seemed like the devs wanted to capitalize on the hype of Hugh's inclusion without any of that meme magic/fan demand that Hugh had. It doesn't help that nobody really asked for her. I mean, at least Helga fits in as a fighting game character; Gerald and Gertie just seem so unnecessary to me.
And I still haven't gone over the rest of the cuts, as there's quite a few noticeable omissions. Cutting Hugh after the massive fan campaign that he had is such a slap in the face to not just Mark DeCarlo, but the NASB community as a whole who actively requested for him. While Squidward may have been a better third SpongeBob rep, it still seems so weird that Sandy isn't here, especially since she really fits in as a fighting game character. I'm not a TMNT fan in the slightest, but it's very clear that the devs are down bad when they include April O'Neil over Shredder lol. PTM is probably the character that makes the most sense to cut, but I won't deny that it would still sting very hard if we do end up losing him.
Easily the most offensive cut in my opinion is Lincoln Loud. Say what you want about the Loud House and Lincoln's gameplay from the first game; their should have been no reason AT ALL as to why he should've been cut when he's the main character from Nickelodeon's second most popular cartoon at the moment. Cutting Lincoln is almost like the equivalent of cutting Link or Kirby in Smash. It just doesn't make sense and he should have been a much bigger priority than most of the characters we ended up getting.
This was an extremely long comment but I thought this was the perfect opportunity to air everything out. This roster just isn't very good in my opinion and it only reinstates the already lingering issues the first game's roster had. I just hope that most of these strange roster decisions can be addressed with the DLC, because the DLC has GOT to be good with that high of a price point in mind.
If these cuts don't happen in the future I think it will make the game a lot better.
I heard from a leak that they got green lit for three DLC packs, so it must be good.

The literal only job a game like this is has, is good representation, it's arguably more important than the gameplay itself. There is literally no aspect more valid to complain about
@@Whispernyan SpongeBob, Hey Arnold, Rocko’s Modern Life, Rugrats, My Life as a Teenage Robot, Jimmy Neutron, Danny Phantom, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Loud House, El Tigre, Ren & Stimpy, Garfield, and 2 Angry Beavers are all being represented in this game so far, and I believe Fairly OddParents is a licensing issue at the moment. They haven’t even shown the full roster yet. How much more representation do you need? The game literally hasn’t even launched and people are complaining already
If you delivered your opinion in a way where you presented it as YOUR opinion and not general consensus (phrases like "who asked for ___?" "nobody wanted ___"), then I would respect what this video is trying to say more.
I honestly could not give less of a shit about this game, but trying to speak for the majority when it's really just your personal opinion just makes you sound really entitled.
For example,

if you literally just presented it in a manner where you are open to discussion, then your commentary would warrant genuine discussion instead of just "what i like = good, what dev pick = bad." Something like

You almost CONVINCED me that Ember was a bad pick, but you shit on Ember SO bad that I couldn't even take your argument seriously, even though you make genuinely good points at some parts.
On the other hand, if you WANT to go the "AVGN ranting" kind of style, lean into it more. When you're talking about something you don't like, sound like you're trying not to get to loud as to not wake up somebody in the other room. If you're trying to show your hate for Ember, then RAAAAHHH GO FOR IT, get PISSED OFF. It'd probably feel stupid as fuck when recording it, but it would make for a good end product. Part of why it's hard to take seriously, is because you're so quiet and gentle when you're getting 'mad', it sounds more whiny due to that.
As it is now, it's kind of half personalized rant/half discussion piece, and it's kind of a mid execution of both. It'd do a lot better if you leaned further in one direction.
That said, you definitely don't deserve some of the hate you've been getting. This was an interesting video!
