@Fuck Google Freddie indeed was a great singer with great range. But I don't think even he ever was capable of hitting G5. There are few human beings that can. But to answer your question, that note is at the very top. And Hatfield did it like it was just a stroll through the park.

@Fuck Google that's a tough one. They were both incredible - to this day can give chills with their recordings. Too me Freddie had more to give though - sang, danced, wrote music, played instruments, etc.

This is the best TV performance ever. I was 15 yrs when I watched him sing this beautiful song in 1965. He has a beautiful voice. At 72 yrs old I still get goosebumps everytime I hear him sing. This is Bobbys song! RIP Bobby! We miss you! ❤❤❤❤

What you should REALLY be surprised at is the number of "young" AND even "middle-aged" people who don't realize they may NEVER have existed if their mothers had not heard Bobby Hatfield singing this song at some time in their life and then gone home with the individual who became that person's father. Bobby Hatfield (Rip 1940-2003) was a legendary tenor, arguably the greatest ever. Perfect pronunciation and vowels singing. He sang this solo and was his achievement. Beautiful voice 👌

i'm so glad Bobby got to her with his first vocal inflections a minute into the song...he lit her up like a fire suddenly. I'm old white guy who taught music, I like this girl, she's got some finesse and talent, and could do well singing jazz and r and b. Many like Nora Jones and others have gone back to the old music and discovered younger listeners really like it. This music is all new to them. For the young, The Righteous Brothers was based in R and B music. This is the finest version of this song you will ever hear, Elvis included.

I too have heard this many times, and recently discovered this absolute gem. I am blown away by the effortlessness in which he belts this out. Story going around is his parents were there, and maybe this was the first time they were hearing him in person. If so, even more amazing, and the lip bite at the end could very well mean this is true. That look at the end conveys a lot if emotion that would seem to support that story.

Let's set the scene: Mid 60's, no autotune. His parents were in the audience watching him sing live for the first time. He was way more nervous than usual. Oh yeah, and live TV, no do-overs.

The song was written between 1954 and 1955. In 1955 there were 4 versions by 4 separate artist.
When the Righteous Brothers got this it became theirs, well more Bobby Hatfield's; his version is the standard that many are compared to.
Both Bobby Hatfield and Bill Medley had songs in US Films, Bobby's unchained Medley appeared in Ghost with Demi Moore Whoopi Goldberg, and Patrick Swayze and Bill Medley's sang Time of my life with Jennifer Warnes, Starring Patrick Swayze, Jennifer Grey and Cynthia Rhodes ( hell of a soundtrack )

There are thousands of covers of this song, sung by Elvis, Robson and Jerome many, many others many come close, but none beat Bobby's rendition.

Todd Duncan sang the vocals for the film soundtrack. It has since become a standard and one of the most recorded songs of the 20th century, most notably by the Righteous Brothers. According to the song's publishing administrator, over 1,500 recordings of "Unchained Melody" have been made by more than 670 artists, in multiple languages.
Of the hundreds of recordings made, the Righteous Brothers'( Bobby Hatfield and Bill Medley ) version in July 1965, with a solo by Bobby Hatfield, became the jukebox standard after its release. Hatfield changed the melody in the final verse and many subsequent covers of the song are based on his version.
The Righteous Brothers recording achieved a second round of great popularity when it was featured in the film Ghost in 1990. In 2004, it was Number 27 on AFI's 100 Years...100 Songs survey of top tunes in American cinema.

So I’ve been writing music since I was six. I right everything from country, New metal, heavy-metal , death metal I play 12 insurance so vocally I’m my own growler. The reason a men can hit higher notes then females is (in some cases) because it is harder to train your voice to go deeper baritone/ bass then it is to go higher even hight Tanner vocals. It’s the wind Power(Lung capacity) And vocal cord strength that makes it possible in the first place. That’s my take. Because not everyone has a “perfect pitch”

What is lost here is why it is called "Unchained Melody" as the title has nothing to do with the song at all. It is actually a song from a 1955 movie called "Unchained".

For a deeper perspective of the lyrics, the song was originally written for a movie called "the prisoner". The husband is serving a long sentence and wrote this in a letter to his young wife who was having an affair with one of the prison guards and looking to leave the country with him. Makes the song so much more emotional in its meaning.
The movie's title was actually Unchained hence it being in the song's title. ☺
