Running around the same age group here, I don’t remember the women having quite the same reaction then but close. Plus our speakers weren’t as good then. I also agree that we did have some of the best music of the times. The right girl, the right 8 track, and the right car or place and you were bound to have a great night. And don’t forget we had some great dance music of all time, back when you would actually dance with the girl up close and slow. I was in love with a pretty girl in my hometown IJmuiden in the Netherlands...Aletta was her name she was 19 and i was 20 years young.. Back then, men respected women and expressed how much they loved them. Today's music is all about degrading them instead of respecting and honoring them as they should. That's why these young women are so emotional hearing these songs. They don't know what it's like to hear and see how they should be treated. Different times, different eras.
I have said this SO many times. Men and women were designed by God as equals, but not as identicals. We are wired differently, period, and that's why this music (and classic, positively masculine behavior in general) hits modern women with such emotional force - they aren't ready for it, haven't been primed to expect it, and thus it hits them at a deep, subconscious level. There were so many great variety shows that showcased a wide selection of artists and styles, and we were all exposed to the best. At one night during a coffeebreak i smoked a cigarette and i was listening to the radio with my Portugese sailer friends..and then this song come out of the radio, at that moment i knew that i will quit sailing when i return in the Netherlands...and i did !! One of the best songs i ever heard..Aletta sadly past away march 2008, but when i hear this song i always look to the Heaven above me and smile....in lovely memory XXX
Back then, men respected women and expressed how much they loved them. Today's music is all about degrading them instead of respecting and honoring them as they should. I have said this SO many times. Men and women were designed by God as equals, but not as identicals. We are wired differently, period, and that's why this music (and classic, positively masculine behavior in general) hits modern women with such emotional force - they aren't ready for it, haven't been primed to expect it, and thus it hits them at a deep, subconscious level. If you watch reaction videos to this song, it is ALWAYS the same.

This song is a very close, and emotional song for me. I am a man's man, but...I cry every time I hear it. My mom passed away 3 years ago. She had me record this song (her all time favorite) over and over again on a cassette so she could hear it over and over again. Everytime I hear it, I think of her. What is good about this is the start with you normal, easy going & then "POW" Bobby swoons you into a stupor to where you can't think straight. It is beautiful. "He's so cute" is your last words with a clear head

I think the the bite was a reaction to nailing that last note and seeing the look of pride on his parents faces at that exact moment.

I'm seventy three years old and remember when this song came out . I still get chills listening to Bobby Hatfield sing Unchained Melody . So amazing!! What a great loss to the music world when he passed away.
He was "nervous" because his Mom was there and he proceeded to bless the world with one of the most incredible live versions of any song in history. No auto-tune, no voice manipulation, just a straight up masterpiece of vocal perfection! I'm sure his Mom wasn't disappointed.
