love your video especially the music and the scenic drive was nice too - better still its great to know you can still drive it till you get a battery sorted out bcs I had assumed I would have to get it towed home and repaired.

Highlander Hybrid certainly isn't the mileage queen that Prius is but, I'm old now & need something that offers a few more creature comforts!

I am putting my third 12 volt battery in this or next week. I am locked out, and had some warning. I don't think it is the hybrid battery based on your video, even though I am at the ten years marker on 2012 Prius two, I fear one day my hybrid battery will go out. Crazy how everything becomes inoperable when the 12 volt battery goes out. Anyway comments and words of encouragement and wisdom, welcome. Thanks for this.

Hi from Virginia, My 2007 Hybrid battery died two days ago at 173,000. I've driven it about 50 miles since and it's a different drive for sure. Last week it felt like the transmission wasn't shifting right, although the RPM levels were proper. After the failure it drives like the emergency brake is on, because there's a drag on the engine. Christmas tree is a good description.

My hybrid battery just died on my 2015 Camry with 158K miles. Not bad considering that my job requires me to have my car on for up to 12hrs per day sometimes. So even though it has 158K miles, the amount of time that my car was on is maybe 10 to 20 times more than any other regular 158K car. Doesnt help that I found out late that my hybrid filter was coming off and I didnt know how to clean it.

My 2015 w/175K miles was hit by a rubber mat on a very windy day that flew up from the car ahead of me. It hit the left front and side of my car knocking out the blinker light. With a wire I attached the blinker light up under my car. When I got back in my car to continue on my drive the Hybrid Battery Warning sign was on. I was running on gas only. Went into LA from Palm Springs for four days of work. On the last day I took it in for a diagnostics at a Toyota dealership. They said two of the cells were below 13 while the others were at 15. I asked if I could make it back to Palm Springs. The dealer said I could but don't run too long that way cause it will damage the car. I then found out how to reset the hybrid battery. Drove back with hybrid working with the gas. A week later I took it to a mechanic who ran a diagnostic and all cells were at 15. It has been working fine every since this happened. The mechanic also cleared the POA80 code. No one has had any answers as to why the battery has a new reading with the latest diagnostic. Every one says the mat hitting my car has nothing to do with the hybrid light warning coming on. But it is what it is. For over two months the car has been fine.

2010 Prius with 216,000 mile on the odometer. My Hybrid batteries began to fail last week. The vehicle started to chirp as if it was locking itself over and over. All the warning light came on, so I disconnected the 12 V battery and reconnected it. This reset the car computer and all the light and chirping issues went away.. I decided to drive to my sons' home in Rockport Maine, approximately 220 away. During trip all the warning lights came back on, but the vehicle never skipped a beat. I cruised at about seventy miles per hour most of the way. The return trip was much the same, but I noticed cruise control did not work and the hybrid battery fan was on all the time and somewhat louder than it had been. I arrived home having completed about 450 miles in all. Now I have to figure out if it is worth putting a boat load of money into an old car?!

My non-hybrid 2000 Toyota Echo has much the same engine as some Prius hybrids. It gets 42 mpg in town, so there is little reason to deal with those troublesome battery issues if the plus of the hybrid only gets 49 mpg while a dead battery drops it to 27 mpg. A hybrid doubles a car's complexity while only saving about two-cents per mile driven. Not worth it.

Great video I was just wondering what year was the Prius you have that ran after the main drive battery stopped working ? I have a 2008 second generation Prius that I bought new and don’t usually drive it much. It only has 40 thousand miles on it. I did install a wire harness from the fuse box though the front grill that I plug into a trickle maintenance battery charger that keeps my Aux 12 volt battery topped off at full charge a must for me in the winter. It just started to have a hard time charging this pass week I’m having a hard time trying to get it to charge above the purple lines onto the blue please let me know if You think I should just replace the main battery or if you their Is something a can do to get it back to charging better ? I know it’s a 12 year old Prius but with only 40 thousand miles on it’s hard for me to believe the drive battery is gone bad. Plus the car has always been garage kept out of the elements.

Drive the car at least a bit regularly. When not driven, the hybrid battery loses charge. When it empties, it must be recharged by an expert. Expensive and dangerous for a DIYer. Also ensure the vent to the hybrid (back seat pax side) is clean and clear. I have a 2007 and they didn't add filters until 2010, I think.

I have a 2000 Honda insight took the hybrid battery out. Put a computer chip in to keep all the dash lights off. And I honestly get 100 MPG better than with the battery. Why when I got the car the battery was in very bad shape so it was calling on being charged all the time which made the gas mileage less. No battery the car just runs fine. 63 hp 1700 pounds of a car 100 mpg. Five speed only the CVT Honda insight gets about 20 miles to the gallon less

On the 2006, when the big battery dies, you have a jerky, slow ride. Finally it's undrivable. Would be nice if I had a switch to make it run on the engine %100. It slows down on hills. One day soon it will stop. It's rattling as well. I am in Mazatlan and need to fix it but NOT at Toyota. I think it can be fixed (the main battery) for a couple of hundred.

So, what if you just patched in several Lithium Ion batteries of the correct voltage but lighter and cheaper than the standard battery pack?
Remove the heavy factory battery and just add "enough" to make things like regen brakes work ? Just curious what would happen.

I have a 2009 Prius with just over 137,000 miles. The Hybrid battery is still good as far as I know and I believe my gas mileage is over 40 mpg. I just replaced my 12v 48 month Duracell battery that was less than 2 years old. 12v batteries just seem to die quickly in my car. Did you have that problem? Also, this time my warning lights for Brakes, ABS, ASC came on while I was driving. This happened not long after I had to jump start my car. I did research online and found out a weak 12v battery can cause this. Luckily my 12v was still under warranty even though the one I had was a replacement under warranty. The woman I was dealing with nearly 2 years ago told me that if the replacement battery dies they would not give me another one. Well, my wife told me to call the company that sold me the battery and they said they would replace it and they had one in stock. I drove there determined to get a new battery but when I got there the man could not find one. He called another store in another county to the south and they said they had 2 so I drove there and they gave me a new battery no questions asked! So if the battery lasts past September, my 48 month warranty will be covered. The other big issue I had with my car was the Hybrid Water Pump died on me while I went for a Sunday drive but the car still ran so I took it to Toyota and they charged me a small fortune to fix it so since then I fix my car myself! I love the fact that the car keeps running even after a failure! I haven't been stranded yet but I have AAA now just in case I need a tow in the future.

i had an issue where i suspected a bad 12v battery same as you. it was dead a lot going to first enter ready mode starting the car. all electrics dead. turns out i just needed to tighten the crap out of the ground cable where the negative terminal runs to on the chassis. you might inspect that and maybe even move the ground to a different bolt and tighten all the connections. 12v battery has gone another year flawlessly since i tightened that one ground. it was a regular mess b4 that with multiple odd symptoms.

It’s a Prius so I drive slow, make sure to check your brakes because you don’t use regin braking while in the “check hybrid mode” is on …so…your brake pads will ware out faster than with a healthy battery. Yes it runs just fine with check engine light. But the torque is much less, 300 N.m Torque from the DC motor cannot be achieved but AC is still fine too. I drove for about 2 weeks until get $800 refurbished battery for my 2006. Florida is hot and kill battery faster than in milder climate. But at least 10 years warranty from Toyota these days proof, it will not die before 10 years

How is the refurbished battery holding up now? How many miles do you have on it now? And where did you buy it?

    • @rondhole
      @rondhole ปีที่แล้ว

@PittsensX it will definitely not last long. Typically, they give you 1 or 2 years warranty. A refurbished battery is only if you want to sell it, not to keep it. If you want to keep it for another decade, get a brand new battery. It cost about $2500. The best investment is a garage, the battery will last at least 15 years if it is not parked under the hot sun.

@@rondhole i have a 2014 Toyota Avalon. I got it brand new 8 and half years ago. Now i have 170000 miles and the hybrid battery died. I unplugged the 12 volt battery and plugged it back in, and it restarted the computer and all the dash lights went away and the hybrid system worked again just fine but the hybrid stopped working again after 2 weeks. And I restarted the computer again and it went back working again but this time for only 6 hours then the hybrid system stopped again. So now I’m driving it only on the gas engine without the hybrid battery/system and the gas mileage is trash because I drive Uber and i need to fill up my has tank every day now

If Hyb.battery died you still can pass the smog test, the engine is builde to pass those regulation without taking account of the battery setup, other ways it will be not allowed to drive on the roads . Logic.
I rent a brand new Prius for 15 days the dashboard shows around 100Km , the battery that comes with they deplete completely if the car left in the garage for 8 hours continue. In the morning when i start the car there was not enough battery at all to run the car on battery only to get the car out of the garage, the petrol engine kicks in immediately. Luckily i wasn't the owner.
Hybrid cars cost a fortune to repair if NG1 or NG2 fails those component have a limited lifespan they are not built to last for ever!!, battery are not cheap too and will die on you randomly, there are no rules. the battery can die anytime just be prepared. You lucky if the battery dies the last month of warranty so you can get new one for free.

@@keithc8108 it's a 2009 it still runs to this day,but from what 2 mechanics have told me the battery is not exactly "dead" the majority of the modules that are in the hybrid battery get low to the point where I have to jumpstart the car,but you can also set the engine to run all the time there's a video on here that shows you how to keep the engine running all the time, truth be told I usually get around 25-29 mpg so it's not that bad and it only need around 15 to 20$ to fill up no matter what the gas prices up

It is designed to fail for a long time >10 years and 1 millions miles and replacement will last 12-15 years without issues. Most diesel DPF filter and Catalytic converter will cost the same as Prius battery replacement in less than 10 years.

Let’s see the car you build! I used to race go karts and for every hour on the track you did an hour in maintenance (that came with outrageous costs...many thousands of dollars) so while I’m stressed out about how I’m gonna fix my car and what it’s gonna cost, I won’t bash Toyota...their cars are amazing the way u can just turn a key and run it for hundreds of thousands of miles without major repairs or maintenance...this is really the first big thing that’s happened to mine in 200,000 miles so comparing that with any other car, odds are the other car would’ve cost you more than $3k in repairs by now! I frankly just wish I had saved up $ for this day a little better because Toyota’s battery technology is limited like the rest of humanity (better energy storage technology would make a giant difference in almost every industry, that’s why Elon Musk and others are so focused on that) and anyone that’s ever had their IPhone battery crap out on them or anything like that should’ve known it’s coming....I’d tell Toyota that I’m not mad, I’m just disappointed lmao
