  • This video will give you some more insight on what your options are if your Honda Civic Hybrid battery is bad. These options can be used with any Hybrid vehicle, just make sure you get the matching part.
    Options to replace/recondition your Honda Hybrid Battery:
    1. Go to a local junk yard and remove the hybrid battery yourself. This will cost you around $300 (that’s what I have been charged here in Utah) plus you will have to give them your old battery unless you want to pay the core charge (I would just keep the old battery). The warranty won’t be great and you have no idea how to tell if the battery is good or not. I would get one from a wrecked car, if you can’t see any damage to the vehicle, it’s very possible that it is in the junk yard because the hybrid battery was bad.
    2. Go to www.car-part.com and find a used battery. You can get some good deals on here. I have only ever gotten one on here for about $600 but it worked great. Just make sure you get a good warranty and ask the salesman how long it’s been sitting, and if it was test driven before being pulled.
    3. Go to ebay.us/r3Il1B and search for a hybrid battery. Again this is hit or miss but I have found some good deals on here. I got a $300 used hybrid battery shipped to my door that worked great.
    4. Go to bumblebeebatteries.com/ and buy a remanufactured battery from them. This will run you $1700 plus whatever extra you want to pay to get a better warranty. I would do this if you have zero experience with cars and want to keep your vehicle for many years.
    5. Get a grid charger from ebay.us/Qu4nrr this will cost you about $300 but you can use this for multiple vehicles. You can also let a friend borrow it or rent it out or even sell it when you are done with the vehicle and recoup the cost. I have used this on three vehicles and all three were fixed with a bi yearly charge.
    6. Buy a brand new one from a dealership. It is going to cost you about $3000.00 out the door, and if you want to have them install it, its going to cost an additional $400. They are brand spanking new, but warranty won’t be great and it is going to, most likely, cost more than what your vehicle is worth.
    7. Build your own grid charger. This is a very inexpensive way to fix your vehicle but most people won’t be able to figure out how to do it.
    8. Take your battery apart and charge each stick individually and test which sticks have limited capacity. This is the best and most inexpensive way to fix your hybrid vehicle battery but it can take a long time and you will need to know what your doing. I recommend this if you are messing with a lot of hybrid batteries.
    Option 9, bypass hybrid battery (not shown)

    but what i have had to do my car..

      @M23jnba it was quoted about 4k-6k for a replacement of the HYBRID battery system, and it was a MAYBE it'll work. They said if that still didn't work, it would be totaled. So we used that 4k to down pay a brand new car, and even tho yes in the long run we paying more, it was a better choice for us, we couldn't live with paying almost 6k on a "maybe"

      It will drive even if the hybrid battery is junk. You have to remember the engine is a 1.3l or something like that. Regular civic engines are 1.8l so if you were to remove the hybrid battery you’d have next to no power. You cannot convert it unless you want to do a complete engine/tranny/everything swap.

      I’d stay away if you plan on driving the vehicle long-term, especially since it’s a 2009. The engine and transmission will do just fine but The hybrid battery is over 10 yrs..and age and heat are the number 1 culprits for batteries deteriorating. But just my 2 cents.

I don't see any indications that it is in decline as I did when the first one started to go. Hello sir,
    I bought this 2007 hybrid civic. It had the Ima light on. I found a great battery at a junk yard with 15+ volts on every pair of cells. It came with the inverter ,converter, and fan. I changed it all but it still doesn't charge and it gives me the p0562 code. The car runs fine. Sometimes in first gear it's slow but when it gets going it's a beast. I checked the 12volt battery with the vehicle on and it gives me 13.9 which is good. The scanner tells me all the cells are great but the inverter, converter is not working. Do you have any idea why? I checked all the fuses.

    • @karrskars
      @karrskars  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It just depends on how you treat it. If you drive it daily and don’t abuse it, use a grid charger it could easily last over 200k miles. Easy. If you drive it in Arizona in crazy hot temperatures year round it’s going to go bad quicker. You can install an accessory fan to help keep it cool. There’s a lot you can do to help the longevity of the battery life.

    Can you drive it with a bad hybrid battery? Also great video by the way. Would you recommend buying the grid charger and recharging periodically as a preventative measure?

    • @alexanderspyra2642
      @alexanderspyra2642 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes you can, it lacks torque and does effect your MPG by a lot, but still it's operational. Grid charging is a good option for a known condiction battery, as it will help maintain it. But if some cells are bad its just like puting a lipstick on a pig. So firstly check each of your cells, and after that keep them healthy by periodically boosting whole battery pack by the grid charger.

      Yes just keep a 10 mm wrench socket handy. Every time I’ve gotten it i unplug the negative from the battery completely wait 1-2 min. Then turn the car and wait for the battery gauge to go up.

    • @ssquirrel88
      @ssquirrel88 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, mechanic said it will impact mpg and power since we are only using the gas motor. The DC/DC converter needs to be still working to provide power to the electrical and charge the other small battery.

    Thanks for the video. I just bought a used Honda civic hybrid from a dealer with 125k miles. Just drove it for one month and the IMA light came on. But I'm still able to get 43+ mpg. What do you think about the battery? Is it bad? The primary 12v battery is replaced by the dealer and it's new. Still IMA is on. Seeking your advice. Thanks in advance. By the way I tried your method of 10 cycles of hybrid battery force recharging. But with the old 12v battery. You think to do it again with the new 12v battery and solve the problem? Thanks in advance.

      You should be able to drive it for another year just fine. The IMA light isn’t a death omen. It’s only bad if you have to pass emissions because you will fail if the light is on (in most states). Otherwise I have driven cars for years with the ima light on.

    I replaced the battery with a refurbished one and still got the check engine ima/battery deterioration lights on. Replacing battery will not remove the lights unless its a brand new one that cost as much as the car. It's probably a reset code that is needed after changing battery. And you are over here talking like you don't know what you are talking about. No solution. Just guessing
