    I don’t care what anybody says, man, that’s a beautiful automobile. I’ve always loved that era Chrysler, and would love to have one, factory “mega-pumps” carburetor or not. Thanks for posting !

    That right there is a fine specimen of an automobile. I wish they still made cars with personality. This one is a real piece of work. Beautiful!

    Awesome car, great video!!
    We grew up with a 1973 Chrysler New Yorker Sedan 440 4 barrel was great family car for Mom and Dad and us 4 kids, we went on many road trips, including cross country two times and 2 week long far from home trips every Summer, great for towing our RV Trailer (1972 Skamper Pop Up Trailer) & our 1973 21' Grady White Chesapeake Cuddy Cabin boat (Skampers & Grady White boats last a long time too), just got to take good care of them, we had Our 1973 Chrysler New Yorker when new until 1997, Skamper Pop Up from 1972 when new to 1997 and Grady White boat from 1973 when new until 2016
    I remember how much room & how smooth a ride our Chrysler New Yorker had at any speed, Amazing vehicle & takes a lot of hours to vacuum, wash, wax, detail, the paint quality was far better than other cars

    I had a 70 newport and I used it everyday in northern wisconsin. 20 yrs ago.
    If you do all the schedule maintenance you won't have any problems . But I had top grade synthetic oil and a pentronix ignition system !
    GREAT RIDE ! DON'T LET A UNI BODY RUST !

    Got a '71 new yorker 440 myself. Outta all the classics I've owned, it's my favorite car to drive and least I've paid. Can't picture me without it.

    Dad bought his new wife a 72 and I got to drive it back in 1976. It was like driving a couch. Just floated along. I miss the big cars.

    My dad got one in 72. Wasn't a Broughm like this one. The power vent windows are a rare uption. The car always started in the winter. We lived in Toronto so the weather is the same as Detroit. I ended up with the car and later sold it to a friend that put it end over end after hitting a ditch with a big boulder in it. Long and the short of it he and his buddy got out of it unscathed. Amazingly, the bumpers and lights were all intact although all of the body panels were damaged. They are absolutely a tank. Tough on fuel but a very safe car.

    Yeah...I have all kinds of trouble getting my Mopars started in cold weather....lol. The parts book shows the original to be a Holley 4160. That must have been another situation where Carter could not keep up with demand for carburetors, because most of the 400's that year used a Thermoquad, but the 440's did not. That happened before in 1971 when some of the 318's used a Rochester 2G instead of the BBD. Nice car!

    What a wonderful car! And the radio playing Which Way You Going Billy, the 1970 hit by the Poppy Family totally sweetens the video! I myself have a 1976 New Yorker with a 440 engine, no Lean Burn. Of course she is a garage queen, only to be used in perfect weather or car shows. Never a problem cold starting.

    beautiful New Yorker - this one has the rare Rim Blow steering wheel and the even rarer power vent windows. I believe it is paint code Y6 - Golden Haze Metallic Great vehicle!.. correction to paint code - I think this color code is T8 (Chestnut metallic) check embossed fender tag attached to right side of front radiator support - love the green lettered “cold” lights on these cars. If it were mine I’d look for a good set of the optional premier wheel covers that could be ordered for all full size Chrysler models that year - the same wheel cover was also offered on 1973 models. Concerning the starting procedures: you’re doing exactly the correct things - a few pumps before starting then turn the key. I grew up up with these cars when they were new in the showroom - my dad bought many of these big Mopars new over the years and traded every two to three years - all Chry Ply Dodge vehicles came with a plastic sleeve that fit over the driver sun visor - they were not permanently attached and could easily be removed - I’ve seen them on ebay

    It started for a whole lot of winters before you got it. That is why it is still around. American made.

    That is a beautiful old car, and it sounds great! I like 'em quiet and properly running too. I've not driven a 440, but I have driven a 383 with a 4 barrel and 727, and the torque from that engine is a formidable force against any Ford or Chevy.

    Jeez man. I love these. I have a 73 imperial,74 newport and 86 5th ave. My newport upsets me because it was mint 12 years ago but after setting out in the sun and rain and snow its showing signs of age. I never drove it in the snow but i feel it would rot out quick. Mostly what it is is the inside and top or underneath surfaces of all body panels were not painted well from the factory. My 86 5th ave isnt like that i notice. Also by 82 or so chrysler employed a rust proofing dip to the metal. I drive the 5th ave in the salty winter slush and its still got zero signs of rust. I have undercoated that one heavily with fluid film. I would STRONGLY recommend anyone driving older cars in the winter get their car oil undercoated with fluid film or one of the other similar products.

    Your car is perfect in every way. I Actually really want a good 69-72 chrysler C body. 440. And I agree 100%. I have a 1968 pontiac, and what a coincidence. when the choke is set up right, it starts, like evey time.. Take care of her and keep er mostly stock :). Id pay 4500-5500 for a good one just cuz I want one.

    Best part the radio still works! I'm orginally from Michigan now reside here in Florida. I'm amazed you didn't have WWJ 950 going on the radio. Now does the A/C blow cold or does it still need to be converted to R134a from R12? I would love to get myself a 440 powered New Yorker! now was that CKWW AM 580 you had playing on the factory am radio? now if it was my car and if i still lived in Michigan i'd have CFCO 630am which is a country station out of chatham-kent over in canada playing in that car.

    • @junkman7426
      @junkman7426  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Converted it to 134 last year. Worked great all season. Compressor still kicks on but it's still mostly cold outside so hard to tell if it's still got a good charge or not.

      @jcc3279 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@junkman7426 If it was properly converted and leak checked it shouldn't be an issue come spring/summer. Now to find myself a 440 powered New Yorker after i get my license ;-) and if the AM radio don't work i'll put it on the shelf to fix it and i'm hoping to find one with an AM/FM radio. yes I would daily drive a old 440 powered New Yorker down here in Florida no questions asked! I love older cars not as much if no computer BS to leave ya stuck on the side of the road. and this is coming from someone who worked in I.T. with one of the local school districts back in Michigan and i'm like the one of the few car people in my family.

      @@junkman7426 Just got your reply glad it went to good home i'm working on getting my first car when i finally get my license i'm actually been looking at finding a nice condition Ford LTD Crown Victora since i'm in Florida lots of Rust Free Late models down here. It kills me seeing a lot of older cars still on the road down here in Florida. I'm actually origally from the detroit area. do I miss home kinda. lots of good times but had to relocate due to a bunch of shitty neighbors who made my families life hell.

    The most surprising thing of this video, was that the man had a Club on it! 😂
    Edit: disagree with you on their potential value. Way things are going (more electric, and tiny motors full of electronics with hair driers), the fuselage Chryslers are next up to explode in value. Everything else has been scooped up already. Not much left out there. Plus these cars are becoming unicorns. Most have be scrapped or derbied to death.

    30 seconds in, and I’ve heard enough. This kid knows nothing, unless hes joking but I didnt watch any further. A proper running 440 will start up easily in that cold weather, and that car with a good set of snow tires on the back, will go anywhere you want if you know how to drive. These are the cars we had back in the day, and we drove them everywhere daily, and didnt let a little dusting of snow like in this video, of all things, keep us from driving them... SMH. ....

      I'm being very sarcastic. Lots of people claim this and that. I've driven and worked on several of these since I was 16. Some of my favorite cars. They are fantastic.
