Cold start of 1980 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight Diesel - 13 degrees this morning so thought we'd have some fun and see what it does. 44 years later, everything does exactly what it's supposed to do.
Despite all the things that could have been designed better about these engines, Oldsmobile knocked it out of the park with the starting process/ability from 80-85 when everything was working correctly
To die for!!! what an amazing sound!!! I love the 80 and 81 grill best!!! Clearly the original owners of this beautiful 98 babied this car and gave it the best love with fluid changes and all, I bet he let it warm up 10 minuets at a minimum and checked the fluids each trip and was very particular where he got the fuel from...tens of thousands of these cars could have still been on the road if they had received just half of the love this car has enjoyed and continues to enjoy under your ownership.. great to see it being out of the Texas sun also!!
Do you have an electric fuel pump on this. I start my Seville diesel up about every month or so and it takes about 4 attempts to get that ole girl started
Good afternoon. I wish you well. I know there isn't many used GM diesels out there. However have you seen any lately. Last one I saw was 1981 Buick Riviera on Hagerty's site.
I’m glad these things are being preserved by some dedicated enthusiast. That being said, it was an embarrassing attempt by GM to make a luxury Diesel. Mercedes-Benz successfully Dieselized the passenger car in an era where most other manufacturers (save for Peugeot and Isuzu) absolutely shat the bed.
There is a guy on Facebook on the page Oldsmobile Diesel who has a Cutlass Supreme that he is trying to sell, I referred him to your TH-cam channel in case you want another one. He seems pretty desperate to sell it. You were the first person I thought of. It looks clean from the pictures. It has the Calais steering wheel. White/ burgundy.
my dad bought a new 80 cutlass 2 door diesel. my dad joined the class action lawsuit in 1983. . these cars are infamous. I’m glad yours still works though.
Nothing quite like the sound of a diesel engine with a rotary injection pump on a cold morning. Only needed one glow plug cycle too, awesome!
Amazing to see one still clacking! Those get a bad rap but they were what a diesel was in 1980- loud and smelly. Nice Car!
The microjector heads (1980-1985) with good glow plugs were pretty good starters in the cold.

I have an 83 Cutlass with 4.3L diesel. If you EVER want to sell one of your diesels, please hit me up!! I love your cars and videos!!
My 1st car was a 1982 Delta 88, 2 door with a 350 diesel.

No, just the stock mechanical lift pump, with a pre-filter/water separator added
Started very nice 👌... I see you have gauges pack, very nice. Your steering wheel leather cover looks nice
ordered mine w/gauges heavy duty everything and......well I miss that car
Chilly for TX. Sign of a well maintained diesel if it fires off ez at 13'F
Hi Robert. I sent you a friend request.... nice Oldsmobile Diesel. I would love to come see it
very nice! love that car.
It sounds like a semi truck because that’s about how big the engine is!

Nice to see another video from you. I like your car collection very much!
So if the GM diesel was well taken care of 44 years later! Beautiful car!!
Weird seeing a luxury car sounding like a tractor!
These cars are louder than todays transport trucks...lol
My first car and 27-30 mpg all day long!
What's normal oil psi at 1500 rpm?
Love that diesel sound 😎

sounds good..!
Working good which buick is that next to it
76 Park Avenue next to it, 74 Electra 225 behind that. 72 Ninety-Eight behind the diesel
@@81oldsdiesel I just motor swapped a 1990 custom cruiser to a 1978 olds 350 motor
Wish I could go for a ride in it.
I love it!! Brings back memories of my ‘79 Olds Cutlass Supreme diesel with the 4.3l V-8, and ‘82 Cutlass Sierra diesel with the 4.3l V-6.
I have a 79 Cutlass 4.3 V8 diesel, actually. Needs injector pump work right now, but otherwise all original in good condition
Also awesome! Any chance you could feature it on the channel?
