I have this machine for over a year. Every single time I need to clean and/or descale my Breville, I watch your videos. Thank you so much for easy to follow and clear instructions. Thank you!
Glad to hear that
I think the fact that people are still commenting on this speaks for itself, but I always come back to this video when I need to clean my machine. Thank you for this extremely detailed and helpful content! :)
Thank you for your kind words
The same ❤❤❤
Combining all of the below comments seem not enough to express how well have you done this Video! So brilliant so meticulous so careful step by step of the procedures moreover you repeat the second process to ensure the machine is thoroughly flush the remain residue of the tablet if there was any. Thanks so much. Enjoy your life I am most certain you will take care of yourself as well as the machine. I honestly think Breville should pay you or hire you to promote their products. You are genuine the winner. So long!!!
So glad to read your comments. Unfortunately Breville won't help me in anyway as they are a big company without influencers. That's ok and this is my hobby too.
The most helpful video for cleaning. Better than the official breville non verbal video
Thank you
Thank you! This was done so well, with enough technical thoughtfulness to satisfy my deep curiosity about this machine. I will admit, my absolute favorite part was your second effort at cleaning, when you fast forwarded and I got to see your fish in MOTO mode!!! LOL. Loved it! Thanks again. Gonna go clean my machina!!!!
Your patience in explaining is so appreciated!
Thank you
HAVE OWNED THIS FOR AROUND FIVE YEARS. Fantastic and very well explained. Thank you

Thank you for making your videos. I saved your channel and watch your videos every time I clean or descale my Breville. Reading the directions can be confusing so watching you makes the process so easy. By the way, when you go into fast forward mode, it's fun to watch your fish tank:) You're the Best!
Thank you so much
Thank you so, much for your very informative videos! You explain everything so, well. I am a laboratory technologist by trade, which helps with the maintenance. But, your videos make it so, easy. Thanks, once again. Lizzy

Excellent,.

Very good and complete video. I have a question: My clean light came on and I did a cleaning job but my light is still on. Does it mean I have to descale also? What is the difference as far as the Clean/descale light?
Bro your video is the best video for breville bes870. Really appreciate it. Thumbs up. I will matching more. 🔥💪🏽☕️
So glad to hear that 👍

Good learning. After running the cleaning cycle, two lights on the left side (single and doublle grind) blink alternatively for quite some time. During this blinking the machine does not grind the coffee. Please explain.
Great info, did you take the filter out? I do and run liquid descaled through water tank.
I always remove water filter when i do Descale. But no need to remove in Clean Cycle
Your videos are so clear and precise. I appreciate that. I have had my machine since September and clean it every Friday, except no tablet and I use the provided brush and canned air to dislodge and blow out the grinder of all residue. I use purified water in the machine so the descale light has never come on. But I followed this video and used the provided tablet today. My question is it necessary to use the tablet if the descale light doesn’t come on or is using the tablet just a good preventative every 3 months or so?
Thank you.
Descale is different cycle compared to Clean cycle. And tablet is used for Clean cycle or Backflush.
Assuming you are referring to Clean cycle, then Yes you need to Clean using tablet in Portafilter every 3 months atleast, in order to avoid coffee stain buildup. Even if the light blinks or not, you need to run clean cycle. Same applies to Descale cycle as well, where u use Descale power in the water tank.
@@AjusCafe I run the clean cycle every Friday plus thoroughly clean the grinder, filter head and froth wand. But I’ve never gotten the descale message I guess since I use filtered water always. But as you suggested, I’ll continue using the descale tablet every 3 months. Thanks again.
Thank you for the thorough explanation. Would you be able to tell me why the clean/descale light is still on even though I followed all the steps to clean the machine? I can’t figure this out. Does it mean the machine requires rescaling? (I have never descaled it).
Is the light flashing OR solid ON?
@@AjusCafe solid
@@mytran499 If it's solid ON then you need to DESCALE. Follow this video to fix that th-cam.com/video/YOWbYh9Hssc/w-d-xo.html
Water is coming out of protafilter when using the single dual wall (lost the single wall in move). Any addictive?
Great video, just have one question.. when starting the clean cycle all the residue water comes spewing out the bottom and side of the puck handle instead of going through upper plumbing and out drain tube. Any ideas on what problem is? Thx
That's normal. Your cleaning disk has a hole in the middle. Right? Some version doesn't have a hole and it blocks all water. Both will bring water up and into the tray to clean. All good.
Should you open and manually clean the group head assembly when you finish the cleaning cycle?
Not necessary, but its always good to clean group head mesh filter if you can, as there could be lot of deposits hiding there too.
Great explanation and very succinct. My machine startled me yesterday as I was making coffee the steam wand pressure dropped and I noticed a foul burning smell coming from the group head which had the unbrewed coffee holder in place. I stopped steaming and removed the coffee holder which came away explosively with a POP and spread the coffee grounds everywhere. I couldn’t find anything about this except a few people on a forum who experienced it and said a descale seemed to fix the problem. Do you have experience of this?
I haven't experienced this issue. If you dial to steam (all the way), it shouldn't generate any pressure on the Grouphead. I suspect the steam wand unit may be failing. Anyway do a Descale and Clean cycle to rule out the calcium buildup as the culprit
@@AjusCafe if it is failing then it doesn’t say much for the brand as it’s only two years old.
I guess you’ve never bought a bad apple before. You must have extremely good luck. It doesn’t matter who made a product, there’s ALWAYS a chance something could go wrong with it. After 2 years, maybe you got a defective part or maybe it was user error not properly cleaning/descaling. When you purchase an item that’s expensive like this, you might want to consider getting an extended warranty.
The Breville brand is amazing and seriously is the absolute best espresso machine for the money. Maybe you should contact Breville instead of TH-camrs for more info. I’m sure they’d be happy to help 🤷♂️
Aju, regardless which basket I use, the rubber cleaning disk the water drains straight though the portafilter defeating the back pressure clean. Thoughts?
Some cleaning disk has a whole, but there is enough pressure to clean backflush anyway. Either use cling wrap on your cleaning disk and use OR use it with pressurized basket. Its all normal.
When I run the clean cycle, my pressure gage doesn’t change! Is this a problem???
Hi, Aju, I bought "URNEX Cafiza2 clean powder", do you know can it clean both the brew head and water scale? For the water scale, can it be put into the water tank to run the cleaning program as you instructed in your another video?
I don't have experience with that. But i read its organic. It should be safe to clean the GroupHead backwash. Not sure about descaling use as it goes through all plumbing systems including boiler.
😊👍
Hi sir , how long do i need to clean my BBE with tablet ? I make espresso everyday of 1 or 2 servings, by the way i love your videos 😍🎉
Once in 3 months on normal use. You don't have to wait for the lights to be ON. Thanks for watching my videos 🙂
thanks so much for the video! my filter size is flashing and i cant pick the filter and my grinder isnt working... is this something to do with cleaning the grinder?
Once you remove the hopper,, there is a little cut just above the burrs facing towards you. That switch is not engaging. That's why the filter size is flashing. You can use something like a toothpick and press i to the little cut and see if it engages. Maybe just vaccum the top area and see if a broken bean is stuck.
thanks so much for your reply! im gonna do this on the weekend hope this will solve everything especially with the grinder!!
Hi Aju, very useful tips and good explanations on your videos. Thanks for it. My question is, does it matter to use powder or solution (liquid) for descaling? Any difference for the result? BTW, my machine is BES870 too. Thanks in advance..
Both Solution or Powder should work, if its meant for Espresso machine descaling
Got it, thanks so much..
@@gokhangok18 And here is a video
Descale using Solution - th-cam.com/video/3fNAnMUQAl8/w-d-xo.html
Descale using Powder -
th-cam.com/video/YOWbYh9Hssc/w-d-xo.html
@@AjusCafe thanks for the links. I think I'll go with white vinegar as it's also written in Breville manual. Hope works well:)
@@gokhangok18 i wouldn't recommend vinegar though Breville mentioned that in 1st version of BBE. Later Breville itself mentioned NOT to use vinegar as it can damage silicon seals etc. So 2nd version onward you won't see vinegar in their manual. But nothing wrong in using it once in a while
One question,
Have you removed the black plastic ho comes with the bottom of the portafilter when its new??
Great videos
Best regards
Peter Sweden
Yes. Less plastic is better
@@AjusCafe Thank you.
Btw I have a Sage Barrista Express
@@peterbergkvist229 its the same 🙂
Hi. Do you know what might be the reason that then I do descaling the water comes out only the group head not the water component or steam wand? Like as soon as I switch to any of them water comes the same second from group head? I tried descaling and cleaning cycle.a.few times. Water only comes out the group head. Will appreciate your input
There could be 2 reasons I can think of.
1. The steam wand is clogged. You need to clean that thoroughly th-cam.com/video/DWivoLznT8Y/w-d-xo.html
2. It could be more complicated, the seal that switches between the steam and water is broken, which will need to be fixed.
Does this happen only during descale mode or even while trying to froth milk?
Thanks for the video but I have one question when I doing the tablet ,the pressure didn’t go this high ,it only go to the middle. Is that something that I can fix?
Does your blind disk have a hole in the middle and water slowly dripping though the Portafilter? Because some model of BBE has hole ans what you see half pressure is normal.
I saw the descale button flashing so I descaled instead of cleaned.
Should I clean now too? Or does descaling do both?
Descale won't do both. You should run a Clean cycle too
Can you use the cleaning tablets for descaling ? Thanks
No never do that.
Great Video buddy. One silly question, if I used liquid to descale the machine. Do I still need to use tablet to clean the machine?
Sorry depends on which liquid? What liquid are you planning to use?
Breville Eco Liquid Descaler. Thanks
@@lalaland8881 Answer is NO. No Descale products should be used for Clean cycle. Either use Breville tablet OR Cafiza powder which is the highly recommended. In Clean Cycle you are cleaning only the coffee oils, old grinds stuck in backflush plumbing etc only. Descale is different and Descale cycle is for cleaning boiler and other components in your coffee machine.
Hi Aju, I would like to ask you: what is difference cleaning with tablet and the pownder descale. Thank you
Cleaning Tablets are used for cleaning GroupHead and backwash area only. When its time to clean the Clean/Descale light will be BLINKING.
Descaling Powder is for descaling the whole machine, i.e. all plumbing inside the machine. When its time to Descale, the Clean/Descale will be solid ON.
@@AjusCafe Thank you Very much for your information. Have a nice day
Hello, great videos. My problem is that I can't put machine in descale mode.
Here is my video that explains why and how to check - th-cam.com/video/vlMhRVU0pJM/w-d-xo.html
@@AjusCafe You are the man! my is 870 first generation=manually descale
@@dido196464 that's right! You could do manual descaling. It'll be similar to this descaling process th-cam.com/video/6PsMe4mNZ_s/w-d-xo.html
How do you purge after warming milk with steamer
Just Switch On the steam mode again for fee seconds to purge, after wiping the wand.
My descale light never goes solid on. Is it because I descale more often than it’s needed? How often should I descale it? Thanks
You must be using first generation Barista Express, which shows only clean me light. In your case you should do Descale cycle manually. Do it every 3 months or every 6 months if you are using filtered water. Here is a sample manual descale on another machine th-cam.com/video/6PsMe4mNZ_s/w-d-xo.htmlsi=mGdGC5q3ZlNeSFfK
I currently don’t have the cleaning tablets but can i do without it for now?
You can, but it won't clean property, especially coffee oil build up.
Why the light is solid and after cleaning not dis appearing light still on after doing cleaning process pls advise thank you
If the light is ON (without blinking) that means its time to Descale. Do a Descale cycle. See
