I reviewed this bike over the weekend, and it was amazingly good. I got home and pulled up the base map in TuneECU, and you would not believe how restricted it is from the factory. The tune and ignition tables are good, but the ride by wire stuff is crazy restricted.
In sport mode, you can twist the throttle all you want. It will never deliver more than 64% throttle opening, and it only gets to that paltry amount, near redline...
15 minutes for an ECU flash to unlock Sport mode and that bike will be so much more powerful.

Great, informative review as usual. It’s easy for short people to ride bikes like this, riding isn’t the problem. Even getting on and off is easy, just use the pegs. No, the problem comes when stopping and setting off, especially when there’s a slope or if there’s loose gravel. That’s when the difficulty starts and dropping the bike, sooner or later, will happen.

As the only serious shaft drive alternative in this category (and no, I'm not including the big Yam) and if the shaft design doesn't require the maintenance of that of the GS, I think Triumph are onto a winner. Am I right in saying the GS doesn't offer a 21" front wheel option?

Thanks for the review, Chops. Seems like a cracking bike and very much fit for purpose save, as you mentioned, tft limitations etc. Without further research (which would be wise) I’d put this Tiger almost on par with the 1200GS. Purchasing decision would probably come down to perceived quality of finish, service costs and local dealer reputation. As regards it’s performance against the Multistrada, I’d wager it wouldn’t bother too many potential customers.

Big heavy bike (including clutch). Vibes are noticeable but the marmite engine (t-plane crank) is the main problem depending on preferences. Performance and road holding are excellent, comfort is good, electronic extras are great and the bike has serious road presence. There is a lot to like. Less so if if you are used to riding the more traditional smooth throughout the range triumph triples. For me the t-plane sounds like a tractor and as this is supposed to be a bike that doesn't seem right.

here's an alternative view, I've had a 900 rally pro a year, rode it all over the place including 2 rallies, so quick word onthat, seat is 3 hours comfortable the foams not quite right, twitchy front end two up and that's it no other complaints other than you have to fit better protection its a brilliant bike. I've just test rode the 1200gt, unfortunately not the rally, the engines smoother, its faster though not massively and that's the only two advantages over the 900, the handling is the same. Bits I really didn't like, the new dash is awful massive step backwards and I just don't like keyless. Shaft drive?? I can clean, lube and adjust a chain, no biggie... Just my opinion everyone has one and everyone's is valid. Test ride before buy. I'm sticking with the 900.

Great video! That cake was worth the trip! I am just trying to decide between the KTM Super Adventure 1290 R, Triumph Tiger 1200 Rally Pro, BMW R1250 GS Adventure and of course the Ducati V4S Multistrada! Maybe you could help with my decision? How about a joint a review with you, Teapot, Mr Flyer and Mr Vida? 2 chain & 2 shaft bikes a 3 day trip? Now that would be really interesting! 👍

Great idea for a review Mark! 👏 all depends what sort of adventure bike you want, the GS is the best mile muncher followed by the Triumph (which is faster) the Ducati is beautiful and that V4 motor incredible but not the most comfortable and fuel range poor. SA and ducati the most exciting to ride and handle the best 👌

@@LambChopRides , to continue, I rode the KTM, Ducati and loved both, fast and very fast, however, chain drive! Love the GS, I’ve owned 4 in the last 16 years and everyone buys them for a very good reason! But bored of them now! So that is the reason I bought the shaft drive Triumph 1200 Tiger Rally Explorer, it’s different to the main stream, in my opinion it has the edge over the GS older mans bike, faster, lighter, more refined but most of all, its British! I would much rather keep a British person in a job than a German! I love my Triumph shaft drive!
Lets be honest, all the above bikes are amazing, it just depends where your heart is!

Hola, estupendo video!. En mi caso, no soy un piloto experto y solo conduzco en carretera de asfalto. No hago grandes viajes, solo alguna salida pequeña. Gracias
