I'm still running in a 2019 800 XRT. One of the main reasons I bought it was the triple engine. I love triples and I know lots of people do. It is silky smooth and sounds great. Plus no vibration to speak of. I find it difficult to believe that many of us take their £13K plus bikes offroad. I know I won't take on much more than the odd green lane. I bought the bike to downsize from a 1050 Tiger, which became too hard to manhandle around due to the onset of decrepitude. My point is that to change the character of the engine to suit offroad riding with the inherent increase in vibration and sounding like a twin seems like a strange way to go. Of course I haven't ridden the 900 yet. I've hardly ridden the 800 but it is brilliant. I love how it sounds and the total lack of vibrations. If I'd have wanted a twin I would have bought one.
That slight vibration in the hands makes a huge difference after hours of riding and hundreds of kilometers. That is exactly why I was considering to change my twin for a tripple. Now I have queations about this vibration thing, and u r not the only one to mention that.

When I was a young man - many years ago, I used to obsess about all the hyper sports bikes. I've had one or two over the yesrs; all very enjoyable and all very, very fast indeed (150+mph/240+km/h has been easily accessible since the mid '80s). I met a guy out on a motorcycle camping trip once about 15 years ago; he was riding a GS850. He asked "which bike are you more likely to kill yourself on?" I absolutely love all these adventure style bikes; ride in comfort for huge distances in all weathers, carrying as much stuff as you like. Two wheeled heaven!
"Tiger 888" sounds pretty damn cool to me. I think most people will respond well to the "lumpier" crank configuration... It's become the new norm for their twins and I'm sure it will in the triples as well. I'm not exactly a fan but it sounds pretty nice and that's what sells bikes. 12:55 is the best demonstration you could give a bike to be honest, that could have been a nasty crash on a lesser bike!
I'm finally at the point where I've accepted the fact that my next bike will be a Tiger 900... im in Central Texas, so most likely will opt for the Rally, or Rally Pro.
Just making sure I've got this right; because of all the people that take their Triumph's off road (that's 2 people), Triumph have completely re-designed their engine to, erm, engineer in some roughness and get rid of the smoothness because, erm, the (2) off-roaders didn't like it... Ok, I geddit now......
I wish I could upvote your comment more than once. Every OEM wants to be SPECIAL and DIFFERENT, every OEM gets an award, no special needs OEM is left behind . . . 🙄😞👎🏻💩. Wouldn't be surprised if all of their other triples start to sport this new stupid T-Plane crank fad. 🙄
I do take my tiger 800 off-road so that's 3 people. I don't take it on single tracks though. We have lots of unsealed minor roads (thousands of kilometers). I wouldn't swop my 21" front wheel. I haven't felt any need of a different firing order. It sounds as though there are some good improvements but not enough to trade up. I also don't like the new headlights or display (personal preference). If mine got written off I would buy the 900. Good review thank you
Watched your review of the gt pro last night and took the rally pro for a test ride this morning. What a brilliant bloody bike!! I have the vstrom 1000 2014 and I love it, but this new 900 has just blown me away. Vibes? What vibes! Acceleration, torque, comfort and ergonomics are just perfect. I'm 6'1, 100 kilo's, and long legs. With the seat in the high setting, (yes it's adjustable) it fitted myself just perfectly. Very surprised with the size of the bike compared to the big Vee. Almost the same, but 23-24 kilo's lighter when fully fueled. As you stated, the throttle response is so smooth, as is the quick shifter. The brakes are as good as you demonstrated, (bloody cagers)and the whole package is perfect. Well done Triumph! I know now which bike will replace the Vee in the near future. Thanks Chopsie, brilliant review as usual. cheers.
@@LambChopRides Mate, could you kindly do a review on the new 2020 vstrom 1050 xt when it becomes available. I do not speak Russian, Spanish, Italian, German and so on. There is nothing out there in bloody ENGLISH!!! Thanking you in advance. Have a good one mate.
Fantastic review 007. You’ve taken it to the next level. Informative, unbiased, still as entertaining as ever. And, crucially for me, you give us an insight into us what’s really important about a bike; engine character and handling. The highlight for me though was when that stupid f#%k pulled out in front of you and I barely detected a rise in your pulse. I wouldn’t have been able to show anything like that level of self control as my VO would have been a long series of beeps. 🚨
Thanks Bruce really appreciated matey, yeah wasnt expecting that fool to pull out but thats biking isnt it happens all to often.. That junction is tricky and was probably going a bit too quick so cant realy blame him
I know "T-plane" crank was an effort to make the engine better off road...but what's the point in a bike that is a "Road" touring bike? Lets face it, very few people go truly off-road in this class of adventure bikes as they are big, expensive and heavy. If you ARE taking a Tiger off-road then you are going to buy the Rally version in which case this engine would make sense,
A lull in power delivery gives the driving wheel a chance to grab the surface ...for the rotational speed to match the surface's speed and this allows the two to 'mesh' for longer - the coefficient for Static friction (stationary) is always higher than the coefficient of kinetic friction (once sliding) and like everything in life it's not black and white but shades of grey at the margin between the two states.
Great review.. I had the GT PRO demo for 4 hrs and thoroughly enjoyed it. I like touring so decided to do one junction on the motorway (75mph) on the way back to the dealership, this was the first time I noticed the vibration, was wondering if this could be a problem for 300+ miles? Would heavier bar weights help?
For a road bike why make it lumpier with "acceptable" vibes? If I wanted a twin I'd buy an F900. Also, they still have the exhaust stuck under the rear seat so you can't use soft throw-over paniers without a frame, which defeats the objective. Excellent review as usual. 👍👍👍
Nice review. I'm one of the eejits that take em off road. Just ordered the rally pro, I've never had a bike with that amount of electronics, ludite that I am. Time will tell.
Cracking review, cheers. Only let down for me is the tft screen layout, no rev counter graph or circular dial which BMW seem to have sorted, plus no room under seat for disc locks & the like ☹️
4000 is pretty good at 70 MPH. You could call that an adventure bike, if you put a skid plate of decent thickness on and some 50/50 tires. But I think for the extra $500 USD I would be sorry that I didn't add the spoke rims, better suspension, the extra modes and engine guards that the Rally Pro has.😁
Hi Chops - This is the bike I’ve been waiting for, mainly as a tourer. However, you didn’t mention you views on its ability to perform in that role. Your views would be greatly appreciated. Great review of what seems to be a great bike. Thanks again, yours aye, Alan
Sounds almost like a Speed Twin. I own a 2019 Tiger 800 XRt, so it has all the same features. I like the passenger having their own switch now. Took me ages to figure out to hold the seat button to activate the passenger seat and it has only one setting unlike two for the rider. My pillion wasn’t happy about that after riding in the cold with no heat!
Fantastic review, love the camera work, I've just taking this bike out for a test run here in Australia (Perth) 30 dec C warm day ; And the first thing I notice was, the heat coming from the radiators on to my knees , very uncomfortable !! Looking through comments nobody has mentioned this,. obviously in the UK winter you would love this extra heat to warm your cold legs , but in summertime I doubt it !!! Apart from that ,the bike was really nice to ride..
Very interesting review, especially for me as I have a Tiger 800 XRT and will be thinking of getting the 900 GT Pro after I've had a test ride. What I like about your vid is that you know how to ride, really giving the bike some wrist so as to try the engine's performance and the bike's handling, not just potter along the lanes. Great stuff. I love my 800, one of the best bikes I've owned and I've had many, but my sole criticism is that it is impossible to get on the centre stand unaided. It is for me anyway, only able to do it, even then with an effort, by first putting the back wheel on a bit of wood to raise it. Hoping the 900 will be easier but if not, that won't put me off buying one if I like it otherwise. I notice in your walkround that you got the bike on to the stand. However you are way taller and heavier than me (five eight, eleven stone and I'm old and decrepit too) so that might explain it. Either that or the 900 is actually easier, which I hope is the case. No problem with the stand on my previous bike, BMW 1200 GS. Thanks for the review, one of the best I've seen of the GTP version.
Great vid as always Chops, your chanel is fab! I started watching this bloomin months ago (and somehow never got to the end lol) when I was looking at the SDr which I bought, now my missus is getting back into coming out with me we need something better for a passenger. I've not seen a bad word really about the 900s. Now my lovely wife has fallen for the Rally Pro which I'm secretly glad about as I'd love something different to compliment the SDr which ain't leaving the stable and will probably now lose the rear seat 😆 haha
Great review. I had a Tiger 1050 with a TOR can so I'd miss the old engine sound however. That sound gives me the same goosebumps as a Rolls Royce Merlin does 😄
Nearly 42mpg US = 50 mpg U/K...not too shabby to be honest in my opinion. Interesting bike. Think I'll see if the wife would like this too! She rides her 675R, but would be interested as a pillion on trips on this maybe?
When can we get the ultimate review and comparison between he BMW F900 XR, Ducati Multistrada 950 and Triumph Tiger 900? Mainly for commuting and touring.
Cracking review, good to hear another tall bugger is out of the dirty air with the screen, it wasn't the case on the 800 for me. The 800 was also the only experience of a heated seat I've had and I was sitting there thinking "I do need to have a bike with this!", it's a feature that's far more valuable than you'd think. A bit like Cruise control on a bike as well.
Thanks. Good review. Reassuring as I’m considering trading a couple of twins for this particular model. Safety, practicality, lightness and pillion comfort are factors for me. Very helpful to see this video. Real life uk riding there too. You handled that driver at the crossroads really well. No sense in us riders getting too angry with bad drivers, there are too many of them. Cheers.
You stated the trade of of vibes with a T Plane crank, could you expand? Thinking on getting a GT PRO, a quick test ride following saleman on another revealed some vibes? Concerned they may be much worse since I didnt go above 6k rpms????
Excellent review. Just bought a Ducati Scrambler for commuting in the Paris region. Loving it mostly but it really isn"t confidence inspiring on motorways or in bad weather conditions. Most of my riding is in dense traffic but I do get out for the odd jaunt. I'm very tempted to move to this Tiger as it really is a Swiss army knife machine and still fun to ride. The lower centre of gravity might swing it for me. I imagine that filtering wouldn't be a problem? The only thing that I don't love is the colour choices and the overall look. The Rally green is far better looking but unfortunately not available for the GT pro.
So I've got a Honda c90 with knobblies on ,its light weight economical and probably more hilarious and fun to use on and off road .Certainly cheaper to fix when you off it lol . The triumph is probably great but I don't believe it's any better or worse than the rest of the brands ,to me it's fugly ,but I think the norden looks cool lol .
The "T-plane" crank just makes the bike vibey like a twin, and its lost is smooth Triple character. I found the vibrations in the footpegs/handlebars were quite noticeable after less than an hour riding. I'll admit its got loads of torque, but if you want that then its easier to just stick with a big twin or better still a large displacement V4. A triple engine is meant to be the "best of both worlds" but this one, strangely misses the mark. I reckon Triumph should have stuck with the previous generation's 1050 smooth i.e. the Speed Triple engine in the Tiger Chassis. Overall I found the bike rather boring...
I'd have loved to had met you for that test ride, but I'm in America, dammit!!! Always enjoy your reviews. My local dealership just started selling Triumphs in the midst of Covid no less! Can you say, CANDY STORE!!!??? I gravitated IMMEDIATELY to the Tiger 900. I'm 6'2", 180lbs. I sat in the bike. It's COMFY! It had cruise control! Heated grips! I don't care much about electronics packages. I'm 60. I like non-ABS bikes. I grew up with them. I do like a nice dash though. Love my 2020 Ninja 650's dash. That being said, I CAN spring for the Pro, and that seems to be the norm on the showroom floor. Make sense. They want to sell the deluxe model. But would you estimate that the base model is just as nice? Or, all in all, would you during for the Pro. No one's doing a vlog on the base model. I know it doesn't have heated seats, but I'm a daily commuter. I don't own a car. I've never missed what I've never had. My Ninja 650 has ABS, that's it.
@@TheMissendenFlyer I think you'll find he's fallen off more than you (conveniently forgetting LCR does a lot of green lanes etc!). Mr Chops another great informative video, super. I could live with this bike, it ticks all the boxes for me but it would have to be the low seat height. I also like the safe red colour, got to be seen by the tin tops. Talk about tin tops. When that car pulled across you on that crossroad i freaked out, heart in mouth time. Stay safe Mr Chops.
One of my biker mates just got a new one, it looks like a great bike. He traded is awesome Empty-10 in for it, sad to see the MT go but it drinks to much juice, he was always in the petrol station.
I've tested the Rally pro. It IS too viby. From 6000 rpm, it was getting uncomfortable. No where near as bad as the BMW F900XR (which is horrible imo), but worse then the Tracer 900 (GT). But sub 6000 rpm, it's a nice ride. I Wish they had put 120/70-17 front and 180/55 -17 rear wheel on the GT version though. It would give it more "fun" potential. Speaking of sporty and the Tracer 900. How does it compare? I've tested both, but didn't get to take either to the twisties. I felt like the Tracer was a lot more sporty and will be more fun to own as your only bike.
Who likes keyless? I do - its great - I thought it'd be a pain but in reality its just ace. No more faffing around for keys, just leave it in your pocket. Whats not to like?
But then you think... hang on did I put it in my pocket, has it fallen out?? Much prefer to know exactly where my key is , in the ignition where it supposed to be :-)
@@LambChopRides - I keep it in the same pocket in my jacket all the time - it never needs to come out. First had keyless on my GSA1200 and now on the KTM 1290. the fewer times I'm handling my key the fewer opportunities there are to loose it.
Did find the seat was high enough for a tall ride. I love 900 bike I’m about to upgrade my America 900. I’ve had since new and I always found it a little to small but never lacking in power. I’m trying to decide on the 1200 Rally Pro or the 900 rally Pro.
How is the model configuration simpler than "XR" road version and "XC" off road biased version. Never could see how people had difficulty understanding that, still it looks and sounds lovely.👍
HI i have been lucky to have had test rides on the tiger 900 gt pro and the rally pro . now i have ridden all tiger 800 models and have to say this 900 is by far the best mid weight tiger triumph so far. the rally pro is miles better then the old xc or xcx models . the engine is still smooth but with some character to it . 95hp may sound low but its not it will fly and quick shifter is brilliant , use it mid bend and the bike is not up set the bike at all . brakes just light years better then the 800 tiger . TFT screen excellent and all the other electronics are great . if you like Triumphs go test ride one . when all this lock down is do. by the way just got my test rides in before the lock down . but did not order one due what was coming. ps owed tiger 1050 for 7 years the 900 tiger much better. my currant bike Kawasaki versys 1000 gt . heavy . but great mile muncher.

Ok, I geddit now......
lol exactly its like if Mercedes g65 owners complain about off-road abilities
I wish I could upvote your comment more than once.
Every OEM wants to be SPECIAL and DIFFERENT, every OEM gets an award, no special needs OEM is left behind . . . 🙄😞👎🏻💩.
Wouldn't be surprised if all of their other triples start to sport this new stupid T-Plane crank fad. 🙄
Naranja L'orange what can i say? Me and my brother wanted that. We talked to the Triumphpeople and they said ok.
@@Keyser_Soze739 Haha, brilliant.
But the engine sounds better now ;-)
I do take my tiger 800 off-road so that's 3 people. Good review thank you
keyless ignition is great, loved mine on the Multistrada
Bunnyshooter 223, ooooo so crazy! Everyone’s had to deal with a choke before numbnuts
I'll tell you one thing, this is the best review I've seen.
I really really enjoyed it..
Thanks very much
I loved you riding.. 😎👊
Thanks Peter 👍
Thanks Chopsie, brilliant review as usual. cheers.
Thanks Andrew glad you liked it mate!!
Man at 12.55 I almost soiled myself. Nice reaction time to save your bacon.
love the way it sounds ... bit meaner than a normal triple, nice rumble to it but also still retains that classic triple whine ... I like that a lot 😉
That junction is tricky and was probably going a bit too quick so cant realy blame him
Hi & thanks. Are you sure that the vibrations from the engine are not annoying in the hand bars & in the foot-pegs over 5000 rpm ?
I know "T-plane" crank was an effort to make the engine better off road...but what's the point in a bike that is a "Road" touring bike? Lets face it, very few people go truly off-road in this class of adventure bikes as they are big, expensive and heavy. If you ARE taking a Tiger off-road then you are going to buy the Rally version in which case this engine would make sense,
Thanks for a good review. So, 2022 upgrade is the old crank back!
Incredibly clever that.
So it will benefit 2 people, whilst the other 5000 will just have to suffer the vibes.
Yes what Eugene :-)
Great review. Thanks for the 'cornering ABS' demo! 😀👍🏍
Glad to see you get a centre stand. Had to pay extra for one on my CB500F. Shaft drive would be terrific. Had that on my R80GS - magic.
This one has a great sound, exciting 💯
As usual,great assessment and presentation.Thks.
Thanks Bruce!
Hi Alan, it's made for that role perfectly! I cannot see any reason why it wouldn't be a brilliant touring machine. 👍
Thanks Per
Ahh the 360 on the pole may be my favorite. Great vid Chops!
Another great video lots of useful info i had my mind set on one of these,BTW front shocks do have manual preload and rebound
Dry weights I'm guessing. Sounds nice - very twin like. Still keeping my Venom Yellow though.
You need to review Ducati 950 multistrada with full electronic package for comparison.
Maybe they should have 19" spoked wheel as a compromise
When can we get the ultimate review and comparison between he BMW F900 XR, Ducati Multistrada 950 and Triumph Tiger 900? Mainly for commuting and touring.
Cracking review, good to hear another tall bugger is out of the dirty air with the screen, it wasn't the case on the 800 for me.
The 800 was also the only experience of a heated seat I've had and I was sitting there thinking "I do need to have a bike with this!", it's a feature that's far more valuable than you'd think. A bit like Cruise control on a bike as well.
Looks much better than the old 800 and my GSA, nice bike, good review👍
Cheers.
Yes thanks Pete, yes agreed why get angry and start shouting. Pointless, as you say just enjoy the ride dont let them ruin it for you :-)
Another good review Lamb Chop. I like this bike because it has a lower seat version for people like me with short legs.
Thanks Lyn, yes its great that Triumph try and cater for all people very good indeed
You stated the trade of of vibes with a T Plane crank, could you expand? Thinking on getting a GT PRO, a quick test ride following saleman on another revealed some vibes? Concerned they may be much worse since I didnt go above 6k rpms????
That split radiator idea actually makes a lot of sense. Wonder why no one else has ever done it....? Not sure I'd put the rectifier there tho! :o
Honda was the first one that came up with the idea on africa twin.
Really enjoy your commentary.
Seems quite good value for the money and I liked it in that colour 👍
Nice save Chops.
Top sell for the Tiger.
Good review, one of the best on this model.
I was going to say you beat TMF to it as well lol. Great review :)
My Ninja 650 has ABS, that's it.
...and just as I was about to get a coffee. One up on TMF again!
He's always getting "one up" on me....he's the better TH-camr let's face it - at least he can ride a bike unlike me who keeps falling off!!
@@TheMissendenFlyer I think you'll find he's fallen off more than you (conveniently forgetting LCR does a lot of green lanes etc!). Both of you are you tube royalty in my view and when you guys partake in the vlogger meet up's it makes for awesome entertainment....so I would not say better. It's like food. You need all sorts for a balanced (you tube) diet!
Very well put Witney :-)
@@LambChopRides Mr Witney Chopsie, Mr Witney......or Vernon if you're pals....
@@LambChopRides I thought it was diplomatic! So, you go green laneing lane ing laning..how do you spell that?, anyways, you do that and TMF has a CRF250. See where I'm going with this?
Great review! exactly all what we need to know from a bike.
That SD was a sign that you need to test ride one !
Good review 👍👍👍.
End of the month Chris!! Have it for two weeks :-)
Nice 😊👍. Can’t wait to hear what you think of it.
I guess they fixed that smoothness problem?
Brilliant video! BTW, who are you interupting here? 22:03 🤣
I really enjoyed this thorough review of the Triumph Tiger 900 GT Pro and the filming is absolutely stellar, well done👍
Btw,What helmet are you wearing?
Great stuff Mate, thank you for the real World info.
Mr Chops another great informative video, super. I could live with this bike, it ticks all the boxes for me but it would
have to be the low seat height. I also like the safe red colour, got to be seen by the tin tops. Talk about tin tops. When
that car pulled across you on that crossroad i freaked out, heart in mouth time. Stay safe Mr Chops.
Nice review and I think it sounds great 👍🏻
One of my biker mates just got a new one, it looks like a great bike. He traded is awesome Empty-10 in for it, sad to see the MT go but it drinks to much juice, he was always in the petrol station.
I feel like a right plonker lol, he did try the Tiger but he actually went for the Tracer 900 GT in the end.
haha understandable mistake :-)
Fantastic video great bike 🇬🇧👍
Love from India 🇮🇳
Thanks for the video Chops!
Lamb Chop, burgundy? I wouldn't call Korosi red exactly burgundy which is a dark red colour. Korosi is quite a bright red?
What a shame the new piston positioning is bringing parallel-twin-like feel!
Would love that new firing order on my Street :-D
Did find the seat was high enough for a tall ride. I love 900 bike I’m about to upgrade my America 900. I’ve had since new and I always found it a little to small but never lacking in power. I’m trying to decide on the 1200 Rally Pro or the 900 rally Pro.
Less smooth, less quiet? Maybe Harley-Davidson is on to something...
Rattle parts loose ? EXACTLY. 🤣
Great video! Like the review.
