Imagine if all these different factions instead of fighting each other had chosen to work together. The academy doing the science thing, The initiative providing the funding, Exodus doing the engineering thing, humanity first, the resistance and protectorate providing the military capacity and everyone stamping out the servants.

The crash event always happens after researching Deep Space Skywatch, so by steering research you can influence a bit when it fires. A good tip is to just before the event fires, get some cheap control points in low cp countries in Africa. The event seems to always make half your cp vulnerable, if you have some easily abandoned cp, the chances your main areas are hit is slightly deluded.

This isn't quite true, when the event fires, each control point has a 50% chance of cracking down, so having more control points doesn't necessarily help you keep control points in countries you care about.
