I know this video is older but it still helped me run the wires for my rear camera on my X5. Been holding off but got er done with the help of this video. Thank you.
Great tips. I installed my Thinkware dash cam over the weekend on my 2017 X5. I routed the wires straight through the headliner on the passenger with a plastic fish tap. I took about 5 mins.
2 remarks about the rear camera installation: if you glue it to the top plastic trim instead of the glass, you will see the red stop light at the top of the tailgate and all the dirt on the glass. Instead, if you install it on the glass, 2-3 inches lower, the wiper will be there to try and keep the window cleaner. I'm still experimenting, as my camera arrived just last night. Also, the rear camera wire should be installed above the curtain airbag, to make sure it doesn't interfere
Fuse 19 is always on. I just used it after searching online. You can confirm it after leaving the car off for 10 minutes or so. Just use a meter to check voltage.
Your video is very informative and sheds lots of light on how to handle this process. The only thing I can't seem to figure out is the FUSE you tap into. Could you respond to this, please?
Great job! Thank you for sharing. One question, I want to use constant power for my dash camera. Can I use a fuse port that has constant power and is not presently occupied by another fuse?
Aren't you worried that you ran both cables on top of safety deploy bags? It is my understanding that the cable must go along the A-pilar and not cross airbag.
Great video and very clear and helpful. I used it to install on my new 2022 X5. Can you tell me how you wired up the eMylo switch to your hardwire kit? It sounds like a great idea but I couldn’t figure out how to use their instructions. Especially on the 3 wires with the hardwire kit.
I’m not sure about eMylo hardware. If you have 3 wires, typically one for ground, power and accessories. It doesn’t work well with BMW because all the fuses will turn off within 15 min. You’ll need an external battery.
Was the 32G were enough memory I also notice you had the fuse adapter that from another add on from another project. Didn't see that was on the link for the part?
Awesome video and stunning M! Planning to install the same cam next week but the only thing that I don't get is the exact fuse sizes or Amps that you used. Can you please lmk the exact fuses that you used for the BATT and ACC? Thank you in advance!
There’s a setting in the camera app where you can have it shut off either by an hourly limit or you can have it stop when battery voltage drops below a level you have set. Also with BMW, within 5-10 minutes, everything shuts down regardless of what the camera is set for.
@@eddiemcars Thanks , I have the same camera and I going to install this week and can you tell me how use the app for set up the time on the camera ? Thanks
Hello, I’m curious about the rear camera. When opening the tailgate especially. Have you left some give in the cable for it to open. Also, I’d be going a “visible wire” route to save me the work. Any recommendations on what to use to hold the wires and not damage trim. Thank you in advance.
I have an X6M and thought about this camera. Now that I see it it is too wide and ugly. I was hoping to get an idea of glares from the X6M slanted rear glass too.
How you connect dash camera în parking mode , because i dont find fuse with 12v active( when contact key is on and no power when contact off) Except the fact you make conection wire by wire .best regards George
Unfortunately, the best you can do is a fuse thats live for 15 minutes. You will need an external battery because all fuses shut off and the car goes to sleep on the BMW
The same fuses should work but keep in mind that if this camera has a parking mode, it won’t work as all the fuses go to sleep 10-15 minutes after the car goes to sleep.
@@eddiemcars ahh okay it does have parking mode… damn. Really enjoyed your video bro! My x6 stressed me out, in the UK the front fuse box isn’t on the passenger side, it’s on the driver side where you need to unscrew the cover. Passenger side has those clips but they’re pointless because there’s nothing really on that side 😅 Made life EXTRA long! lol So all the fuses even the back ones all go to sleep? What about the fuses for like the memory seats, wouldn’t those need to stay on?
@@eddiemcars man thats crazy. So I would have to get like a battery pack for my x3 m40i then for the parking mode to work for my blackvue. Are you in So Cal area?
Here’s the link: blackboxmycar.com/73256 You have the option to add the hardwiring kit. I used the BlackVue version. However with BMW all fuses go to sleep after 15 min. If you want longer than that, I would go with the battery option!
@@eddiemcars I appreciate the reply! I already have a dash cam, but wanting to wire it into a new (to me) f16 x6. Only want the cam on when the car is on. Don’t need it on for even the 15min.
I did the same as you, everything works only with I had to unplug the airbag plug in the lid (on-OFF passenger) to remove it, after connecting the airbag error on the display, how to delete it?
Quality is decent for an “entry” level dash cam. I can read plate numbers during the daytime. Night time is clear but it’s harder to read the license plate due to the headlight reflecting.
An excellent product. I have the same dash cam. Where did you learn this stuff!? Must save yourself thousands. Love your channel mate. @x6mko on insta 🇬🇧

I like seeing the red brake light because it I’ll know when I braked when I leave someone behind. 😂
How do you install it above the curtain airbag? Remove the headliner and line along the headliner? Or just same as the one in the video?

@Dscarface12 you are an absolute genius. Fuse 19 is a constant source of power. GENIUS!
Thanks Eddie for the amazing video.

Great job! Thank you for sharing. One question, I want to use constant power for my dash camera. Can I use a fuse port that has constant power and is not presently occupied by another fuse?
Use fuse 19 in the passenger footwell
Thanks . Great video . I was wondering how to earth in an X1 . Hopefully it's the same .
Hopefully its similar! I think routing the cord through the hatch is hard part

Yes. When you add a fuse, I like to use go lower than the existing fuse. I’ve had good luck with 5amp or 10amp to run the camera

How did you fit the rubber wire sheath in the trunk back on? I removed both ends but I've been struggling for 2 hours to fit either end back on.
Try and remove the white plastic piece first, it should be easier to apply the rubber sheath back on. Then you can re-clip.
@@eddiemcars I did this on my parent's X5 and I was freaking out because I struggled putting it back on as well. Will try this, many thanks!

BlackVue DR900X-2CH Plus or Thinkware F200 PRO GPS ?

That would be challenging without having slack hanging down. I routed the cords through the rubber grommet on the hatch so it doesn’t get pulled.
Done right!
can you do the battery install for the blackvue? Havent been able to find a video for bmw that shows how to do it.
I don’t have a battery for it yet. I need to get one.
I have an X6M and thought about this camera. Now that I see it it is too wide and ugly. I was hoping to get an idea of glares from the X6M slanted rear glass too.
You can position it but I felt the Blackvue is the one of the smallest and more slimmest of the dash cams

Did you PPF your front on the new car? What are your plans for the front if not? I know your last one was pre ppfed
It needs a repaint on the front. I never got to it but with 40,000 miles when I bought it, it was too late for PPF.
