    President Joe Biden's latest executive order on immigration gives legal protections to about half a million undocumented immigrants who are married to American citizens, preventing their deportation and providing a streamlined pathway to citizenship for them and their children. The announcement is being welcomed by immigrant rights groups, but comes just weeks after Biden signed another order giving himself far-reaching power to shut down the U.S. border with Mexico to limit asylum requests. The two executive orders "could not be more different from each other," says Congressmember Delia Ramirez of Illinois. She attended Tuesday's White House ceremony with her husband Boris Hernandez, who came to the U.S. as a teenager and would qualify for protections under the new rule, and says Biden must offer an alternative to hard-line Republican policies. "Be the administration that shows the stark difference between Donald Trump and Joe Biden as it pertains to immigration. Tuesday was a good step in that direction. What he did two-and-a-half weeks ago was not," says Ramirez.

      At least democrats signed all the bills that helped people while trump was in office. Republicans refuse to pass bills like the no gouging bill because they wanted to make people suffer high inflation under Biden. 3/4 of the inflation is as a result of direct actions of republicans in congress right now. My point is politicians often do things to affect votes.

    My question would be if there are proposals to address this migration crisis at it’s root cause, which predominantly stem, as far as I heard, from drug cartel activity in these South American and Central American countries.
    Giving free unmitigated access through the border was a bandaid solution to what is actually a gashing wound of a problem, at an international level. States that naturally vote blue like New York, Illinois, and California have been negatively impacted by this with things like having huge portions of state funds being directed to the shelter and care of migrants, thereby disavowing Black and Latin community, who are naturalized citizens, of important community funding.
    Edit: I should also add, even crime rates through the respective urban areas are increasing due to the fact, without proper screening, drug cartels and those in their employ have gotten through.

    • @sylviabargas3340
      @sylviabargas3340 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    United States is facing a labor shortage, or worker shortage crisis, as of May 2024. This means that there are more open jobs than unemployed people, making it difficult for employers to find enough workers to fill positions. As of December 2023, there were 9.03 million job openings in the US, which is 5.4% of all nonfarm jobs in the country. However, the gap between job openings and unemployed people is shrinking. In January 2024, there were 6.12 million unemployed people in the US, or 3.7% of the workforce.

My question is how do we get this to move from executive order to law??? Because if the administration changes, they will simply negate the executive order. In order for it to become law, it has to be done by Congress, and then signed by the President. The problem is that the two sides are too far apart on the issue. Neither side has all the votes they need to get their way. What's needed is a Trifecta, with the same party having the Presidency,, a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate (that's 60 Senators, not just 51). and a simple majority in the House.
