We wanted to move to Washington or Oregon and retire there, but after watching a few videos we started having second thoughts. You never mentioned anything about the drug, crimes including property theft and homelessness which are very concerned now.

Thanks for sharing. What is making you have second thoughts? Is it the drugs, crime and property theft that you are referring to? What area of WA were you considering moving to? Each area is going to have different statistics. Olympia is actually quite low compared to other areas. You can use the following link to look up statistics on different areas. My suggestion to people is to always look at the stats in the city you are currently living in or another city that you feel comfortable in, then you can make a good comparison of different cities. Sometimes the stats can make things look worse that they are but when you compare the cities with each other it give a better perspective. Hope that helps! great video, will look into using your team when we retire, we're still deciding if the PNW will be a good place to retire since we currently live on the East coast, but we will keep you in mind when it's time to make the decision!

Puget Sound resident here. Ferry service to the San Juan Islands is terrible, particularly in the summer tourist season. Reservations are a must. The only island with any real healthcare options is San Juan Island. It is not a good destination for retired people with chronic medical issues. Getting to a specialist requires ferry travel. Wenatchee and Spokane are extremely hot in the summer. Leavenworth is another primarily tourist destination. I don’t believe you mentioned Walla Walla, which is a beautiful town with a university. Much nicer for a retiree than Wenatchee. FYI for people in other states, there is no income tax in Washington but there is an estate tax, with an exemption amount of 2.193 million dollars currently.

Thanks for your input! Walla Walla was a consideration on our list! Great spot!

Locals in Bellingham/Whatcom County will hate you if you move there.
