I had a freeloading "Friend" bragging about how SB made a console with games, when he showed me it online, I immediately said "thats an emulator loaded with games and judging from the list of Nintendo games, its illegal".
I got called a "Hater" and that I should respect a fellow "gamer" for chasing his dreams.
I'm glad you made this video and I hope he sees this as well as this comment.

You know what's also insulting? When Soulja Boy played the race card in response to even _genuine_ criticism over the blatant illegality of his consoles, saying something like "they didn't want to see a black man get money" and "Why y’all want to see a black man fail so bad?". I mean sure, there are those who indeed bash at him on racist grounds, but his petty excuses and lack of professionalism is a clear contrast to Chamillionaire who has definite entrepreneurial chops and is very eloquent when he does his keynotes.
Yeah, randomly reminding people that racists exist is the last resort of someone wrong with nothing to say.

I hate to say it, but he walked into the racist insults when he would pull the race card towards people who didn't deserve it. He is such a damn idiot!
Of course this blatantly ignores all the black rappers who have become legit business men and know how to read a contract. And also would check the laws on selling an emulator in the US as a ‘new consol’ competitive with the likes of the big 3.

Meanwhile, in an alternate universe, Soulja Boy actually did break into the console industry. He began importing a lot of retro systems we're familiar with here such as the Ambernic devices, causing them to become more mainstream in the public consciousness.
Even better, he has a group of developers on payroll fixing firmware and bugs in systems not only for the devices he sell, but others as well. Seriously, no one believed the headlines when Soulja Boy bought Hyperkin and started to actively fund the development of Retroarch, which just released their 'Retron 5' called the Phoenix, an FPGA console that plays damn near everything. The marketing campaign for it was sick, with awesome ads, celebrity spots, and high score contests in different retro games with all types of prizes. He even played Quake with Obama. One "prize" was spending an evening playing Shaq Fu with Shaq. Rumors are that Soulja Boy may be working with Analogue on a new project.
But no, we're stuck in THIS universe...
That will make for an awesome movie. Not starring a Soulja Boy of course.

We all love to hate the facts. The fact is, I remember when this guy popped onto the scene. His style was an influential linchpin/downfall of the entire rap industry. He legally scammed the public by polishing turds, then using star power to enhance sales to the naïve. This is "The American Dream". But such arrogance, belittling of the general public, companies he steals from, & most generally backlashing at anyone who calls out the obvious BS. He acts as a man-baby. Oh man, I remember keeping up on the news of all this nonsense as it was happening. It was so insane I had to double-check I was reading the headlines correctly because of how utterly bizarre practically all of them were. Interesting about the logo on that handheld, I recall some of the videos mentioning that the consoles were clearly just being drop-shipped from China and there was no Soulja Boy branding at all, not even just some card in the box identifying it as Soulja Boy merchandise. I wonder if that's one of the things he actually did change in his second attempt, or if it was just an alternate model that happened to have those letters on it. I recall reading these systems tend to end up as clones of clones of clones as time goes on.
That Atari segment was as hilarious as it was insane. I recall something similar happened with him also claiming that Fortnite would be officially supported on his new console and Epic also replying that there was no plans whatsoever to allow Fortnite on it.
He actually did get a sticker put on the TRD handheld because he was actually doing promo work with the company that does make the handheld. HOWEVER, they dropped him pretty quick when he went online and started making videos claiming that he owned the company that was making the actual handhelds.
To anyone unfortunate enough to pay Soulja Boy's grossly inflated price for the initial handheld, there's a silver lining. It's known as the RS-97 and is supported by a small team of devs working on RetroFW firmware, software, emulators, and games. The RS-97 originally released in 2017, and had a custom firmware released a few months later by StewardFu. Years of optimization has resulted in tons of emulators and ports running full-speed. Oh, and no commercial software is included with RetroFW. If you have a system loaded with games, it's likely running an outdated version of the firmware.
It's so sad that our health care system is in such a poor state that the mentally handicapped are forced to try to make a living reselling knockoff Chinese consoles. 😓

I don't remember that nightclub in Colchester, but I was only a kid in the 1990s when I lived there part-time. I used to live in a pub that hosted gigs specialising in rock/metal, so I'm not unfamiliar with all of the rough and tumble in Colchester!

I must be showing my age, but I had never heard of him until I watched TH-cam videos about his merchandise. I did wonder how he thought he’d get away with his “scam”. As for Atari my first reaction was 🤣
He was popular about 2009ish and every annoying 14 year old had his song crank dat as his ring tone for like 5 months. He was never heard of again since then until he started "making" game systems
To me he his is just one of the many unloved, scratched CDs with dirty broken cases heading for the recycling where it belongs 😀

So he stole roms from pretty much all major game companies but of them all only Nintendo ever had a bone to pick with him about it? And even then Nintendo's reaction to the whole thing was so slow compared to how fast they normally strike fan projects. The sheer implication that he would have gotten away with it as long as he didn't touch anything from Nintendo and JUST Nintendo alone is so ridiculous.

I have yet to even find the interest to look up any of his songs... That's how influencial a rapper he is. And his blatent scams and stupid attitude have helped keep that interest at a practically non-existent level.

As much as I love this channel I love seeing the gaming community rave over Soulja’s trolling antics. I also think it’s funny how the gaming community stresses how important emulation is but started calling out Soulja Boy for trying to sell an emulation console at a markup.
the issue is not the emulation but the devices themselves. he was rebranding, not making.

This story was the gift that kept on giving. I even still remember reading about this pillock at the time. I've never laughed so much as so much douchebaggery in all my life 🤣🤣 and as someone who has lived in Essex my whole life I must admit I never went to Colchester clubbing in my younger days, but went to Bishops Stortford a bit, and Harlow. I still remember the club Jumpin' Jacks which now stands empty.

so he created a new market by selling a product to his mailing list. you know these devices were also sold at kiosks in the mall molded like N64 controllers. just saying I like emulation myself. these games are old and have been for a couple of decades now. at the time not as much but he was a pioneer for an entire scene that's still emerging now. not really though cause those N64 things were a decade before him. this isn't a story I've heard except anecdotally. still maybe generic game stuff is cool for rappers to brand like beats headphones only weirder.

As a software engineer myself…Software which has been out of Production/Publication for 15+ years, which happens to be for a console which was discontinued 10+ years ago… generally, Nintendo wouldn’t care…except if it’s some rapper kid out running his mouth saying things to the effect of _”Im not afraid of Nintendo’s Lawyers” & “Nintendo won’t do sh!t”,_
