You know why there are some chinese people struggling so hard to made their way to the US? Because there are so many chinese people doing immigration agencies in the US. They are using the social medias to propaganda how easy to get a job in the US and how well paid salary of the job in US. But honestly, In fact, the majority of undocumented immigrants in the United States face significant challenges in terms of living standards, economic opportunities, and access to social services due to their lack of legal status.
This is true. A lot of places in the US hire migrants…but then pay the migrants below minimum wage. On paper, the migrants aren’t technically employees, so the employers can pay them pennies and don’t have to report anything for tax and legal purposes. This is very common in the construction industry. For many employers, migrants are a source of nearly-free labor, and it’s a part of the immigration crisis that nobody seems to be talking about-how the people who hire these migrants are complicit in the influx across the border. If there weren’t so many work opportunities, then nobody would come here.
The undocumented Chinese immigrants I know in the U.S. and Canada who came through smuggling are all like this-they’re either fleeing huge debts or are wanted by authorities, so they come here to avoid responsibility. None of them came seeking 'freedom' or because of 'persecution by the CCP'; they use these claims to frame their stories in a way that makes it easier to apply for permanent residency later.

They're buying chocolate. No canned food, no stove, but chocolate. They seem like absolutely wonderful people, very happy family, but I can already tell its gonna be one hell of a hard journey for them. I wish these people the best.
The family seems happy and came fr large city but honestly most Chinese don't have the necessary wilderness survival skills. It's quite sad that this kind of family had to illegally immigrate. I don't know what they met with in China and indeed common Chinese have a worse and worse life during this years. Just hope this family could get through of the jungle safely.
The best CNA documentary to date. Excellent production. Breathtaking storytelling. Remarkable video journalism. My highest praise to Dui Wei and her team.
I agree the reporting and video are great, however, not one of the people profiled seems to have a clue that winning an asylum case depends on proving persecution or fear of persecution on account of race, religion, particular social group, nationality or political opinion either by the government or forces the government is unable to control. These folks all freely admit they're economic migrants. Ultimately, they will not win their cases.
As a lifelong American, I can say that we are facing the harsh reality of declining birth rates and it's migrants who are taking up the slack (think agriculture or even blue collar work like plumbing). People born in America are leaving those jobs in droves or would rather ride social net programs than work those positions. America needs migrants *but* it must be sustainable, if you have a ton of migrants lacking education/work skills then there's a high chance they will need social programs to survive. American social net programs are not funded to the level you see in Europe and parts of Asia so the result is people on the streets, people committing crimes to get money, housing issues, etc. So it requires a mixed approach - secure the border but also restructure our legal immigration system to be more efficient, transparent and provide migrants a path towards education and/or good paying employment (add ESL to this). I won't lie, I definitely prefer migrants who come with skills/education as it's a simple fact they can assimilate within American society more successfully, less likely to become violent/commit crimes, etc. This doesn't mean every low income, poorly educated migrant is violent and/or a criminal but the statistics are clear there is a difference. Migrants who commit crimes that's beyond a basic misdemeanor or traffic violation should be deported if they have not obtained citizenship. However, migrants willing to do the work of learning/building skills should get some level of assistance to continue to promote their prosperity and work ethic. At the end of the day, America is a global country - besides Native Americans/native Mexican families, we are all were migrants so I hold no animosity and wish people who come here with good intentions safe travels and prosperity in our country.
have you reflected on your oxymoron rant? you want skill worker to come to the States, but mentioned about jobs most Americans not willing to do. How are you expecting higher skills person willing to work at jobs that most Americans not willing to work? Do you know your country intentionally keep the population uneducated so that they have to work at jobs they are not willing to work?
I’ve watched all 3 parts. Thank you, CNA & Wei Du, for this enlightening and extremely sad documentary. What an excellent report! I’m looking forward to your follow-up report.
Literally anti china propaganda at this point There are always people trying to get into the USA from everywhere. They have an unrealistically idealistic view of the country due to the propaganda they see like this
Same. I'm from Canada. Married an American, took thousands of dollars and years to be here legally. I want a refund if we're just going to let people come over for free.
Also, this documentary may be fake! Just look at those Chinese people!!! They aren't at all hungry, they're aren't at all filthy or dressed in worn out dirty clothing!!! They have THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS in the bank(s)!!! They paid for airline tickets from China to South America, and I am almost certain that they are working for the Chinese govt.!!! Look at the Latino people,,, they are dirty, hungry, wearing dirty clothes mostly!!! Why aren't the Chinese looking that way???????????????
We paid UCIS fees and also waited for years. I am okay with undocumented immigration as they almost paid with their life. We paid different prices. I am luckier and they are more brave.
As an Asian myself, I am too not ok with foreign invasion. That's why we have a border and immigration. We have laws and legal procedures to uphold. This is an invasion.
Lol. This type of documentary is very common in the west. This topic has also been extensive covered. This documentary is nothing special. It’s average
Man hearing the dad talk about their way of life and financial life in china they had a pretty dissent life there atleast better than half americans life in the USA all i could think was “man you don’t know what you just lost to struggle in the usa” i believe everyone deserves a shot at the usa but some of these people coming think its like the mom said the USA roads are covered in gold all you have to do is pick it up when in reality the only ones making it in the USA is the top 1-5% much less a new immigrant even much less and illegal immigrant. Everyday joes in the USA are struggling the same if not worse than people in China.
True, but Americans are all free to pursue any & every opportunity we want & it's this reason they come. That & bc the Biden administration allows them to.
America doesn't have a class and a caste system. You can easily rise up in America even without good connections. There is less corruption and free market capitalism. In some countries, government servents extort money from non-connected business.
@@GingerNinja1 no they come because they burnt all their bridges back home and no expect the USA to wave a magic wand and make them millionair lol they literally said they used $15k-$35k USD to make the trip from saving lmfao HOW MANY AMERICANS HAVE 15-35k USD just in saving????? Lol and we needa make room for them Americans are living check to check yet we need help out people coming over with $15-35k USD get real
@@GingerNinja1 yeah i understand this but these people are being told false promises that will elevate their already dissent lives when in reality they are walking into a completely less favorable life. Like i said a lot of these people coming illegally literally got it way better back home than atleast half the people living in the US and i dont just want to say US citizens cause everyone is struggling citizens residents legal immigrant illegal immigrants everyone who has $10-30k just laying around in they saving here in the USA nowadays?
The next episode talks about how they cannot rent a place as Christians, due to the informal covert crackdown on religion, even though the law says otherwise
Our CNA correspondent Wei Du is incredible to do this trip for the programme. I saw TH-camr 'bald and bankrupt' 6 months ago going thru the Darien Gap. It crazy dangerous. I wish all the those who enter USA by the southern border make it and have a better life.
Of course they'll have better lives in US than in China or SG, as what my relatives have been over there more than 3 decades ago n now enjoying their retirements with pensions' benefits from the US Govt.
@@leechengho2821No wonder USA is going downhill. So many videos about current US conditions on TH-cam. Alot of Chinese are leaving US and migrating to Malaysia.
You could be right. It is easier for them to escape to a few dozen countries but chose America because it is easier to escape from debtors, the law, etc and then end up having social security and pension. America is the obvious choice!
@@johnchow I do certainly n fully agree with you as US is more sympathetic n generous towards d immigrants whether they legal or not, unlike most Asian countries, which incl. SG unless you've deep pockets or highly educated n talented too.
Kudos to "Wei Du" she and her team has done excellent journalism showing the realities of this migration crisis at immense risk.....so after its been to the point without any opinions... the way Journalism should be...
I'm a first generation Chinese American, came from Shanghai as a student. People need understand 3 facts (1) yes, Chinese Americans in general are richer and wealither than even white Americans, but (2) this because most of us have university, degrees and a quarter of us advanced graduate degrees. (3) if you have no real skills, just another pair of hands, then what's different between your hands than any other illegal immigrants from Mexico or South America? People, come to America legally, obtain specialized scientific knowledge, then yes you will achieve the American Dream regardless which country you are from. But if you come illegally and have no special talent or skills, then you will live just like any illegal immigrant.
Mexicans are actually NATIVE AMERICANS they deserve to be on these lands more than you or any other white asian or black person. Also Mexicans and other Latinos are WAY harder workers than Asians.
I’m rewatching Part 1 after finishing the entire series. I can see the difference in ‘Dad’ from part 1 compared to part 3. You can see ‘dad’ was less spirited after the whole ordeal. His demeanour changed from part 1 to part 2 then part 3, he seemed to have matured 10 years ahead. I wish them the best of luck in the coming years.
Well done Wei Du, you are a brave soul to cover this story. We should broadcast this all over China and let people know that grass is not greener on the other side
@@kaichung777 that’s true officially can’t because that would be construed as citizens are not happy or worse others will take this as a way to escape and follow that route.
I’m an American military combat Veteran. I have a suggestion: Consider a documentary about American military Veterans who leave the US for Mexico and Thailand--the most popular countries for Veterans to seek a better life.
You have a better life in thailand because you now have pension from US as a veteran right? If you dont have pension from US would still be beautiful to live in thailand or mexico?
Let me guess what 'better life' means for you - no need to work, mileage for your dollar, cheap booze and sex. I bet you and other vets and expats wouldn't dare give up your American citizenship
This documentary gave me new insight into how the world works. a world that I have always thought was tough, but in other parts of the world there are things that are even tougher
Tears well up for me on the final part of this video. No parent would wanna expose their child to such danger if not for the sake of a better future. May God bless these line walkers throughout these obstacle courses. Thank you Wei du and Team for going thru so much dangers and hardship in covering this. Hope this will make Singaporeans realise how fortunate we are 🙏
Wow! That was really a good documentary! Thanks CNA and Wei Dun for this amazing work. However, I was scared and a bit sad watching those Chinese risking their life just to be a refugee. I didn’t expect that Chinese also wants to be free and out from China.
As a Texan, I'm not really bothered by Latinos crossing the border illegally. Of course I don't really like it but it's just a fact of life here. But for some reason, Chinese people crossing the border illegally really bothers me and I'm not sure why. I think it's because a lot of these people seem middle class, so they're not escaping poverty or gang violence or civil war, and they have the means to come over here the right way. At most, they're dealing with an authoritarian government (that isn't even that authoritarian tbh) that mostly leaves you alone as long as you stay out of trouble. Why are you coming here illegally?
Because US gives pr according to nations, its very hard for nations like china and india with enormous population to apply for a pr. many graduates from berkeley or ucla even couldn't get a pr for years.
So the Biden administration gets more votes and stay in power for ever by giving these people benefits for their votes. That is why the border is open it seems.
they come illegally because it isn't easy to come legal when you don't have a degree and a job offer lined up. Not to say it is good but they don't have the option to just come legally. There are vias quota for each country. If you want to come from China you need to be lucky and wait 10 years.
Most of these people are what makes America great. When they get here they see the freedom we have. And they will take it to the heart. Because alot of Americans has forgotten what freedom is. This country is great because we are from all over the world. An we believe in democracy an freedom
Thank you to Wei Du and the team for presenting such a touching documentary to the audience. Everyone has a different story behind it and another reason to choose Walk the Line. But they all end up the same, and that is the US.

Nice updated documentary. I’ve seen several documentaries over the years and every journey is quite heartbreaking. 😢 I know they all want a better future. I pray they will make the treacherous journey and be blessed.
I am 3 rd generation Chinese immigrants and I ve seen it all. Those think that this is Gold Mountain but no more. They aren’t informed of the current US economic situation nor the personal safety after one entered the U.S. ignorance is tragic. Central and South Americans are so poor they are looking for food and shelter anywhere in the World. Me too why Chinese?
Yes, they are too sheltered and ignorant about what's happening in the world at home in China. Immigrants who go home for a visit, don't want to tell their own relatives and friends the truth for fear of looking bad and silly for leaving their homeland. Most have to convince themselves life is good in their new country to be happy.
8:00 The reporter asks why they left China when it has the world's 2nd largest economy. GDP means nothing. China has the 2nd largest GDP( about 3/4 the size of the US) but when you divide that by 1.4B people, the average person in China is very poor.
I m chinese and I went to USA to study in 2004 and I graduated masters degree and I moved back to China in 2007. went to the same university as Biden. I went back to New York a few years ago. it has not changed in 12 yrs, or got even worse. Now I live in shanghai and I certainly dont want to live in the USA. its much better here now in terms of safety, cleanliness, convinience and modern infrastructure.

Great documentary. As an American I feel sorry for them; for, it won’t be an easy life- all kinds of challenges once they are “officially” legal to stay in the USA.
Think of it this way: We can learn from them because so much gets hidden in China. This is exactly what we did during and after WWII with German defectors and it's the main reason we have jets, rockets, and NASA. Plus, if there is indeed spies, it's better to log and watch them rather than just let them sneak in unnoticed, although most spies come in through legal means. Even the 9/11 terrorists were here legally.
Australia and the UK deport their Chinese "asylum seekers." Why do we have to support them? They are coming in and working at illegal Chinese farm land marijuana farms.
well this happened years ago. Remember those flew to Canada or US in the 80's or 90's? Many of them needed to work as blue collar workers even they were teachers or nurses or lawyers in HK. The difference is, people were more patience and understand the situation back then. They worked and studied hard to get a better life there. And they (or the 2ne generations) achieved that. Those HK people flew to UK after 2019 are just a bunch of naive people only have pride and don't want to "downgrade" themselves. It is so ironic that they have internet and can collect as much as info they can, they still being naive and think moving to UK without a long term plan can actually work out.
UK is one of the worst places to move to. Generational UK citizens (those whose family lines have been UK citizens for multiple generations) are fleeing the UK to places like Canada and US. UK is very broke and it will probably only get worse. They've peaked.
As far as I know, most of these people choose to go to the United States because they have a huge debt in China. The houses and cars of those who cannot repay the debt will be auctioned off by the court, and they cannot take high-speed trains or airplanes domestically, which leaves them with no choice but to come to the United States. Of course, this does not mean they are all bad people, but going to the United States to start over is indeed a great opportunity. Wishing them all the best.
These are the exact people that the US immigion system wants to keep out. We don't need these people. Everyone really forgets that the US has the best immigration system in the world. We ONLY take people who will benefit this nation. A bunch of debtors from China is not what this country needs whatsoever
they lying they under persecution or political reason to the USA lawyer in order they can get green card. They not telling the truth they are actually economic immigrants.
I was just watching a bunch crossing into America live and someone recommended this documentary. Seeing the babies and children scared and some even alone makes it so much scarier and sad. I'll wait to comment on this after I watch..
Someone help them stop this journey, its not worth it. They will be homeless & starving, look at all the US citizens homeless! This is sad..they are being used.
There are too many immigration agencies on Chinese media platforms has been promoting US as freedom of land and how easy to get rich there. They think they are heading to heaven .
i have to tip my hat to Du Wei and her team for their intimate portrait of Chinese people trapped in property crisis, unemployment and illegal migration. i wish those documentaries could not only shed light on facts but also promote reflections on certain policies and their impact on common people in China.❤
I did border medical job for sometimes. The amount of migrants from India, China, Bangladesh, etc. Are crazy. Never thought it would also be a lot of Asian passing border from the south
Wow CNA, thank you for showing us an award winning documentary this is beyond extraordinary film, and kudos to the documentaries Wei Du and for the rest of team for such a brave act for making this film possible, imagine how dangerous the central american countries but still they made it.
i just got my bachelors of science in the us, applied to over 2000 jobs, zero interviews despite perfect grades and internship experience. what makes them think they will get a job here so easily? this isn't the reality. The end of this journey is going to be a rude awakening.
I have a friend from Hong Kong who recently left HK for UK. Guess what? He doesn't like it in UK. He feels lonely and bored with no prospect of meaningful work unless it was work which he considered beneath him. On the job front he might not have done better in HK but, at least he wouldn't have been lonely and alone. Never mind the racism he occasionally experiences there.
I find it so heartbreaking that as human, born on this planet, we are told we have to slave ourselves to occupy a part of it, we are not allowed to freely move anywhere around it, and we have to pay to consume what the earth produces naturally. It's so hard being a human. Humanity is so brutal. This is so sad. Humankind is not kind at all especially to its own.

As a Texan, I'm not really bothered by Latinos crossing the border illegally. Of course I don't really like it but it's just a fact of life here.
But for some reason, Chinese people crossing the border illegally really bothers me and I'm not sure why. I think it's because a lot of these people seem middle class, so they're not escaping poverty or gang violence or civil war, and they have the means to come over here the right way. At most, they're dealing with an authoritarian government (that isn't even that authoritarian tbh) that mostly leaves you alone as long as you stay out of trouble. Why are you coming here illegally?
I think because you are prejudice.
Because US gives pr according to nations, its very hard for nations like china and india with enormous population to apply for a pr. many graduates from berkeley or ucla even couldn't get a pr for years.
Getting worse and worse in China, once RMB is digitised I reckon the influx of Chinese through the southern borders will just mellow out.
A few minutes into the video, the man said, "Only the brave come." Already he is American. It is always the brave who come here from every country.
Freedom isn’t free stuff and that all they want. We have enough socialists & communists…we don’t need more. Outlaw NGOs.
You is wrong.. America has been republic for many years... you seems forgetting the history. You need re education

They aren’t informed of the current US economic situation nor the personal safety after one entered the U.S. ignorance is tragic. Central and South Americans are so poor they are looking for food and shelter anywhere in the World. Me too why Chinese?
You ask your grandparents
Yes, they are too sheltered and ignorant about what's happening in the world at home in China. Immigrants who go home for a visit, don't want to tell their own relatives and friends the truth for fear of looking bad and silly for leaving their homeland.
Most have to convince themselves life is good in their new country to be happy.

@@lukelu5032but it also goes the same way round. people who left their own country to other countries. Did they have no food and shelter?

As far as I know, most of these people choose to go to the United States because they have a huge debt in China. The houses and cars of those who cannot repay the debt will be auctioned off by the court, and they cannot take high-speed trains or airplanes domestically, which leaves them with no choice but to come to the United States.
